Fragrances -Marc Jacobs - Daisy
rated 5 of 5

This is my new absolute favorite perfume! I bought a gift set of Marc Jacobs rollerballs with Daisy, Daisy Eau So Fresh, and Lola. I absolutely love this one, but I also really like the Daisy Eau So Fresh - and the Lola is kind of nice too, but it's just not really my type of scent, and I think that Oh, Lola! would have been a bit better for me. Anyway, the scent of Daisy seemed to last for a long time - I applied it in the morning before work, and only stopped smelling it toward the end of the afternoon. Even then, I'm not so sure that it wore off, because I had applied some of it to my wrists, and by that time, I had washed my hands with soap and water. I plan to start to wear this perfume on a regular basis, since it smells so pretty and I just really enjoy smelling it throughout the day. It honestly blows all of my other favorite perfumes out of the water. Edit: I still really like this perfume, but it isn't my only favorite anymore, and for some reason, after the first couple of times wearing it, I'm not sure that it lasts quite as long as I originally thought. Regardless, I still wear it pretty often, and I still really like the scent a lot.

Eyeliner -Urban Decay - 24-7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero
rated 5 of 5

I really like this. I'm not really talented at applying eyeliner, but of all the ones that I have tried so far, this one allows me to be the most precise. I already bought a backup, because I would hate to ever be without it.

Foundations -Urban Decay - Surreal Skin Mineral Makeup
rated 2 of 5
PurpleElephants 3/5/2011 11:49:00 PM

Ugh! I tried this because BareMinerals was breaking me out, and the salesgirl at Ulta recommended it to me. My first impression was that the coverage was not good - but I know that probably has a lot to do with the ridiculous sponge that it comes with. Seriously though, I have a few (slowly fading) acne marks, and it didn't cover them at all. Then, a day after I started using the product, I started to break out - even worse than when I was using BareMinerals. This might be good for girls who don't break out at all from mineral makeup. I'm sure it also works better with a foundation brush, instead of the sponge. I also wasn't impressed with the color selection in this line. A lot of the other mineral makeups offer a lot more options.

Mascara -Urban Decay - Skyscraper Mascara
rated 2 of 5
PurpleElephants 3/5/2011 11:40:00 PM

Eh...this stuff is pretty average to me, so given the price, it's just not worth it. I think it's good if you are mostly looking for length, and not much volume, and maybe if you are looking for a more natural, and less dramatic look. I chose to return this, since I can get the same results from several drugstore mascaras.

Mascara -Christian Dior - Diorshow Black Out Mascara
rated 5 of 5
PurpleElephants 3/5/2011 11:35:00 PM

This is my new HG mascara (although it is followed very closely by L'Oreal Voluminous, which is a lot cheaper). It definitely delivers the dramatic effect that I've been looking for, and I'm really pleased with it.

Treatments -L'Oreal - Nature's Therapy Mega Moisture Hair Treatment
rated 4 of 5
PurpleElephants 10/31/2010 11:25:00 AM

I wish I could give this 3.5 stars, because I really feel like it's between 3 and 4. I found it to be a fairly good product, but not a miracle-worker. Also, it really seems to coat my hair. It does moisturize, but I've found other conditioners that seem to work better on my hair. Still, it's pretty cheap, so I would buy it again for occasional use.

Tinted Moisturizer -Clearasil - Adult Care Tinted Cream
rated 3 of 5
PurpleElephants 10/31/2010 11:21:00 AM

For me, this seems to be the best product for getting rid of and preventing pimples. Unfortunately, it does have some downsides. For one, it really stinks! It is perfumed, so it smells fine coming out of the tube - but once it dries, it's a whole other story. The smell is really difficult to get rid of, too: sometimes it's still there even after I take a shower. Also, if you expose any sterling silver jewelry to the sulfur, it will tarnish. This might not be a problem for most people, but I tend to sweat and get pimples above my chest area. I have noticed that even after I shower and remove the sulfur, my sterling silver necklaces have tarnished a lot. I did some research, and I found that sulfur is known to cause this. My only other issue is that I have become really sensitive to this product lately. Every time I use it, my skin seems to get really itchy and red. I'm not sure if this will get worse with time. Like I said, this seems to treat my pimples like no other product that I've found so far, so I continue to purchase it - but it definitely still has downsides.

Self Tanners -Ulta - Tinted Self Tanning Gel in Medium Deep
rated 1 of 5
PurpleElephants 5/23/2010 9:38:00 PM

I really liked the color that I got from this the first time I used it...I even got compliments. Ulta was having a buy two get two sale, so I went online and bought EIGHT bottles (to get free shipping). I went to use it again tonight, and the nozzle seemed clogged...it just started kind of dribbling out; I went to grab a new bottle, but when I went to squirt it on me, it pretty much EXPLODED all over me. It sprayed so hard that it ended up in my eyes (owww!) and all over my white walls. I got in the bathtub and pressed it down again, and the same thing happened. I am furious with this company for their horrible packaging. I will be contacting them about this, especially since I hurt my eyes and also because I will probably have to pay damages for getting this all over the walls of my apt.

Misc Beauty Tools -Unlisted Brand - Zeno Hot Spot Blemish Clearing Device
rated 2 of 5
PurpleElephants 5/23/2010 8:02:00 PM

Meh. I used this product on four different zits The first one was one of those huge pimples...it didn't do anything, and the zit is actually STILL on my face over three weeks later. The second and third went away a day or so after using the Zeno, but I'm not sure that the Zeno did it - sometimes they go away on their own. I just tried it on my fourth pimple yesterday, and it's just bigger today. My SO also borrowed it to see how it would work for him. He used it on two different pimples - one continued to get bigger afterward, and the other stayed the same size. We both noticed that it made our skin red around the pimple area for several hours after using the product - definitely not attractive! The device itself also seems cheap, and it's easy to accidentally turn it on and waste a use. It also randomly turned itself off once while I was using it. Overall, I am disappointed - I might continue to use it in hope that it will start to make a difference. Knowing what I know now though, I would definitely not purchase this device again.

Powder -Revlon - ColorStay Mineral Foundation
rated 4 of 5
PurpleElephants 5/13/2010 9:24:00 AM

This is the first powder foundation that I have ever tried, and I'm really impressed. I love the way it makes my skin look, and I also love the staying power. I do agree that the packaging is pretty bad, though. I always get the powder EVERYWHERE. I have gotten it all over my desk, all over my clothes, and all over my car.

I am really disappointed with this product. It just made my hair a dry, disgusting mess. It might be the worst flat iron spray that I've ever used.

Hair Color -Ion - Color Brilliance - Demi Permanent Hair Color
rated 5 of 5
PurpleElephants 4/10/2010 11:15:00 PM

Wow! This demi is amazing. I wanted to refresh my hair color, which was originally dyed brown over heavy blonde highlights. It was turning into a faded light brown, and I wanted a deeper, richer color. I know from experience that Ion colors are absolutely beautiful, but that they run a bit dark. I therefore bought the light golden brown and the clear shine. I used 2 parts developer to 1 part color and 1 part clear shine. It came out as a beautiful dark brown. It is so rich and wonderful, but I am definitely glad that I mixed it with the clear shine. Otherwise, it would have been even darker. I think it is still a bit too dark, but I'm sure it will lighten to perfection after a wash or two. The smell isn't bad at all, and my hair feels amazing! I'll definitely buy this again and again. Ion really makes high-quality hair color.

Eyeliner -Revlon - Colorstay Eyeliner
rated 4 of 5
PurpleElephants 4/5/2010 11:51:00 PM

This is good eyeliner, and it seems to last a pretty long time for me - I have to be careful when applying it though, because it's really easy to accidentally create a line that is too thick and dramatic.

Hair Styling Tools -Remington - Shine Therapy 1" Conditioning Flat Iron
rated 1 of 5
PurpleElephants 4/5/2010 11:44:00 PM

This flat iron is amazing - it really does the job, and it is much cheaper than a lot of irons out there. I have the Chi turbo, and I think I might actually like the Shine Therapy's performance better. I also like that it releses conditioners as it straightens - I'm not sure how much of a difference it truly makes, but it's definitely a good concept. The only reason I didn't give this product 5 stars is because the lowest heat setting is 300 degrees Fahrenheit. I usually used my Chi turbo on about 260 degrees, so I wish that this would go down a bit lower. Also, the cord is a little bit too short for my taste, but this can definitely be worked around. Overall, this is a wonderful product! EDIT: Nevermind! I used this for a few months, and during the last month or so, it started smoking whenever I touched it to my hair, and it smelled like something burning. I thought it was just product buildup or something, but I went back to my old Chi, and there was no smoke at all. Also, I went to my stylist, and she told me that my hair is now very damaged. I personally regret ever touching this iron.

Conditioner -Victoria's Secret - So Sexy Nourishing Conditioner
rated 3 of 5
PurpleElephants 3/22/2010 1:18:00 PM

After reading the reviews here, I decided to try this product. I ran out to VS and bought both the nourishing shampoo and the nourishing conditioner, along with some other products from the So Sexy line, since they were having a 3/$24 sale. I really like this conditioner! It is thick and seems to moisturize my dry, damaged hair pretty well. I also love the scent, but people who don't like strong, floral scents probably won't like it. This is definitely a keeper for me! Edit: I thought this was pretty great, but after using it another time, my hair doesn't feel as good. I'm going to stop using this product and continue to search for a good moisturizing conditioner, since this didn't really work out too well after all. Overall, I would say that it is an average product.
