Moisturizers -Estee Lauder - Day Wear Plus lotion SPF 15
rated 2 of 5

I am very disappointed at this product. It makes me so shiny and I have to keep using oil blotting paper to remove the shine, I think there are no moisturizers left on my face anyway after doing this. Originally I bought it for summer, then realized it is too shinny - greasy and decided to use it for winter. My face still feels dry at the end of the day after using this in winter. Now I have downgraded this cream to a hand cream, since SPF 15 is not sufficient to be used as a sunscreen if you are in the sun a lot. I won't buy it again.

Moisturizers -La Roche Posay - Nutritic
rated 5 of 5
xinguo 12/12/2007 6:51:00 PM

What a difference! This cream does work on my winter dry skin! It is moisturizing, but not creasy, most importantly, not shiny, so I don’t have to use oil-blotting paper all the time. After tried so many brands, I start to get skeptic on all creams that claims to fix Dry Skin. I am using the Nutritic 5% and saw the change on my face the very first day! When the skin is moisturized, the fine lines seem to disappear, and I look youthful. I hope the result is consistent. If so, it will be my winter skin saver!

Lotions/ Creams -Aveeno - oatmeal lotion

Every Canadian girl that complains about their dry, itchy skin in the cold winter should try this product first. It is effective. I don't know how well it helps on the itchiness caused insect bits, chicken pox rash. But for my suffering of dryness and red patches on my legs every winter, I can not live without this cream (and I had tried many other 24-hr hydrations /moisturizing creams, they only work temporally). It is a bit sticky, so I use it in the winter season only. One tube lasts the whole season, then I switch to something lighter (maybe even fancier) for the warm season. There is no single cream for all skin types and all environments. So if you live in a humid environment and feel need a moisturizer, try something silky. This cream is for serious dry, itch skin problem, the type that you can not help to scratch your skin and can’t even sleep because of it. I will buy it every year.

Cleansers -Elizabeth Arden - Elizabeth Arden Intervene 3-in-1 Cleanser
rated 4 of 5
xinguo 10/27/2007 10:54:00 PM

A good cleanser, no question about it. It leaves skin feeling fresh and soft, no film left on the face even the cleanser’s texture is milky. But other products in the same line do not live up to my expectation: the Pause & Effect Moisture Lotion and Eye Cream just do not work for me. So if I want to keep same brand, same line for my skin care products (in order to achieve the most effect, as all manufacturer claims), I am out of luck for INTERVENE…Still, I really like the cleanser and will buy it again.

Misc Beauty Tools -Clean & Clear - Oil Absorbing Sheets
rated 4 of 5

I love these blue oil blotting papers. I’ve been using it for years. I haven’t tried any other brand, so I cannot say it is the best among its peers. But it is sure better than tissue paper, ladies! Tissue paper rubs at your face, this blue paper just soaks up the oil, and it doesn’t take off your makeup like tissue paper does! Since I have combination skin and don’t use powder on my face, I can look shiny at my forehead and around my nose in the morning. This blue paper works wonder: you just pat again your oily T-Zone, and check the results! It (the results) usually grosses me out and I wrap the blue paper inside a tissue, so the garbage girl does not get grossed out too! Some people (experts in skincare) even suggested using the toilet seat cover paper as oil blotting paper, lord, that’s cheap! I won’t try that. We waste so much money in our daily lives, why so desperate trying to save on quality product like this?

Eyeliner -MAC - Fluidline Eyeliner Gel Blue Peep [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
xinguo 9/9/2007 9:07:00 PM

I bought the product based on the review here. When I first got it, I was worried. It is too blue, to bright for my liking. I am very toned down person in regards to markup. But I decide to give it a try. It went on very smoothly. It stayed on whole day. OK, I start to put more effort to make it work the best for me, with ocean green and taupe eye shadows, I think I was able to tone “down” the blue a little. No one noticed the eyeliner, but everyone says I looked refreshed and great! It brings out the white of my eyes and some other magic that I can’t describe! I don’t know if it will work for everybody, but it sure worked for me – a 36 years old Oriental lass! (BTW, when ppl say they are Asian, it does not really help other to relate their skin color or hair texture: Asian includes Indian, Filipino, Indonesian and so on, who has different skin and hair texture from Chinese, Korean and Japanese, per say)

Liquid -L'Oreal - Feel Natural liquid makeup [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
xinguo 9/9/2007 8:46:00 PM

I had been using this foundation for years. I tend to like very light makeup and this does the job for me. It feels natural. I picked a light color (maybe too light for my skin), so I can’t say it is because of color or because of the foundation itself that it did not provide deep coverage. However, I did not mind. It would be better if it comes with a pump. Two bottles lasted 3 years, and I used everyday! Add the price is awesome. I think the product is discontinued, since I can no longer find this foundation in my local drug store.

Liquid -Biotherm - Sense Comfort Foundation SPF 15
rated 3 of 5
xinguo 9/9/2007 8:23:00 PM

I loved the foundation when I first put it on. I use 345 for my skin tone. The color is great, goes on my face smoothly, and has SPF 15, which is bonus. The best feature about this foundation is the pump. But, I feel dirty by the afternoon! I look somewhat tired, and I can wipe off the foundation with a tissue. It feels like it is coming off my face. Mind I do understand less is more; I only used a tiny bit of it. When using only moisturizer, without the foundation, I feel much more clean. Maybe I used the wrong color. Whatever the case, I am done with it. No more.

Masks -Biotherm - Hydra Detox Mask
rated 3 of 5
xinguo 9/9/2007 8:06:00 PM

The mask did not give me the deep moisturizing or fresh and soft effects that I was looking for. It does nothing more than a rich moisturizer, and for a mask that you are going to use it once or twice a week, it is not good enough. I thought it would “purify” my skin or somewhat, guess I was wrong. There gonna be better mask out there! I won’t buy it again.

Treatments (Eye) -Shiseido - Benefiance Concentrated Anti-wrinkle Eye Cream
rated 3 of 5
xinguo 8/19/2007 9:39:00 PM

I have tried many eye creams and this is a very moisturizing one, or, the most greasy eye cream... So I use it at night and during winter dry seasons. It works well for that purpose - moisturizing. I am not sure if you can call it “anti-wrinkle” though. It does not have the “lifting” effect that I am looking for and does not do anything to dark circles under the eye. So I won’t buy it again.

Foundations -Christian Dior - Dior Bronze Tinted Moisturizer SPF10
rated 3 of 5
xinguo 8/19/2007 9:25:00 PM

I am not impressed about this product. It is considerably fair priced for Dior products, but does not keep its promise of moisturizing for 24 hours, nor do I look sun glowing as its name implies. I use the peach tone; the color is OK, nothing special. It is easy to blend. I am 36 years old, and this moisturizer makes me looking tired, it accentuated the fine lines under my eyes. Maybe it meant for younger girls. I definitely won’t buy it again. Wish I asked for sample before I bought it.

Misc Beauty Tools -Shiseido - Eyelash Curler
rated 5 of 5
xinguo 8/4/2007 11:10:00 PM

Great product, great quality. I bought it base on the review here. The curler fits my eyes shape well and can catch and hold all the lashes close to root. The construction of the curler itself feels like a quality product already: Study and Light weight. The cushion (and an extra cushion included) is firm and protective to the lashes. I will buy it again for sure.

Moisturizers -Yves Rocher - Serum Vegetal Lift Effect Youthful Contours Day Cream
rated 3 of 5
xinguo 8/4/2007 11:03:00 PM

I bought this product base on the reviews here and I am pleased about it. The cream is for woman age 35 +, and I am 36, right on the target! . I haven’t used it for long, less than a week, and haven’t done the proposed “exercise” yet. I have better even skin tone and nice glow after using it. The texture suits me: combination skin in summer, and dry skin in the winter season, and I don’t have to use foundation to even out skin tone after using this cream, which is great to give my skin the chance to breath! It also priced reasonably (bonus, on sale too). I won't buy it again since it does not contain SPF.

Treatments (Eye) -Elizabeth Arden - Prevage Eye Anti-aging Moisturizing Treatment
rated 3 of 5
xinguo 8/4/2007 10:42:00 PM

I loved the Prevage Allergan Anti-Aging for face from EA since it reduced my brown spots from sunburn. So I did not think twice and brought two of this eye treatment. I apply it twice a day as instructed. It has been 4 months now and I don’t really see any improvement on the fine “expression lines” that I have under my eyes. It also does not do anything to the dark circles under my eyes after a late night work or party. It does reduce puffiness though, if I went to bed crying after watching a sad movie. It is nice and light, absorbs well into the skin, goes well under makeup, but I want to have the ultimate eye cream that works for me – REDUCE fine lines and wrinkles! So I won’t buy it again.

Moisturizers -Yves Rocher - Night Shift Pro-Retinol Vegetal night treatment
rated 4 of 5
xinguo 8/4/2007 10:14:00 PM

I love ordering Yves Rocher' product on line. Their customer service has always been satisfying. Only I need to know what to order, because some of their products are not as good. I had been using good brand names for night cream, but I wanted a change, so I looked up the reviews here and went ahead with the order. I am very pleased. The cream may seem a bit heavy at first: my face was shinny like oilskin. But when I woke up the next morning, all the nutrients sink right into the skin, it feels soft and rested. Not sure if it reduced wrinkle (I leave my eye contour area as suggested), but pores sure look diminished, and my face has a nice glow. I only used it for couple days, I am already in love with it. Yves Rocher always has great sale going on, so I definitely will buy it again. I think it would be great for Canada’s long winter months as well.
