Lip Liners -DuWop - Reverse Lipliner
xenamarie 3/4/2010 1:36:00 PM
I requested this in a swap since- based on most reviews-it's a good reverse liner. For me it really does what it's supposed to do. This DuWop liner is like a little fence around the mouth - nothing gets thru! It's not drying my lips out, and I expect this pencil to last a long time since it only takes one swipe around the lipline to do the trick. Makes my lips look fuller without any tingling. Lipcolor shades look "true-er" over this liner. *EDIT* The ELF Studio Lip Lock twist-up pencil is just as good in my opinion, but less expensive at only $3.00 each!! Plus I don't lose any product by having to sharpen it....will probably just alternate these two, or keep one in my desk makeup bag at work, and one at home...both work great!

Pressed Powders -E.L.F. - Translucent Mattifying Powder
xenamarie 2/16/2010 5:13:00 PM
So I received this in a swap because I really wanted to try it... I like it alot, I'm at a loss as to why it gets such a low MUA rating...I guess that goes to show nothing works for everyone. Perhaps applying it over something else (moisturizer, makeup, or SPF as someone suggested) is what's causing the oxidation that so many users are experiencing...(Paula Begoun claims it leave a slight pinkish glow which can be pretty on fair-med skin). I detect no scent and have had no skin reactions with this. But it does apply silky-soft and stay true on me (current foundation Mayb. Age Rewind Creme) and I love the finish (soft focus-like). Reminds me of the Cover Girl Simply Powder, tho you get less product with the ELF (but it's priced less too). The compact is actually very nice and sturdy, but bulky for a purse or cosmetics bag. It does have a soft sponge applicator and large convenient mirror. I'll probably save the compact after the product's gone and use it for something else. I'm sure I'll repurchase. **EDIT** I'm still loving this, it applies smoothly with a blush brush or the enclosed sponge.

Lipstick -Maybelline - Color Sensational
xenamarie 2/14/2010 1:19:00 PM
Once I got this lipstick home and tried it (Get Nutty shade) it was full of surprises. First, it appears as though it would apply much glossier than it does, but it's actually more of a creamy, highly pigmented matte, taking some effort to apply. Second, the scent is exactly like Play-Doh....not very elegant! In fact, I decided to double-check so I went and asked my 8 year old to tell me what he thought it smelled like..he was playing a video game and didn't even look up when I asked him what it smelled like..he just took a whiff of the tube and said matter-of-factly "Play-Doh". However, I do like this overall (and my husband said it looked pretty on me!), the shades are beautiful and long-lasting, and the tube is classy for "drugstore". (I wanted to buy Blushing Brunette but it was always sold out). If you can get past the lingering kiddie scent of this product (1 lippie off), I recommend it! **EDIT** After 2 days of wearing this exclusively, I now have dry, parched lips....this is not for me! Maybe it really is made of Play-Doh!Perhaps if you're willing to wear it over a lip balm it would be great.

Pressed Powders -Cover Girl - Advanced Radiance Pressed Powder
xenamarie 2/14/2010 12:56:00 AM
Thanks to the great reviews, I just bought this in Creamy Natural and it was exactly what I hoped for...a soft, radiant and peaches n' cream finish. So many powders are extreme one way or the other (either dry and chalky or too greasy - which one's worse?) but I find this to be perfect for my combo skin type. I was afraid the Ivory would be too pale even for me (I'm fair-med) so I chose the next shade. (*Beware* these shades do run light!*) It's a pleasure to apply either with a puff or brush. I love this powder and I'll definitely repurchase! ***EDIT MAY 2011 - I'm still loving this powder, I use it daily, more so than my Lancome Dual Finish. (I'm on perhaps my 5th compact of the CG which would equal one Lancome cost-wise!)***

Lip Gloss -E.L.F. - Super Glossy Lip Shine SPF 15 - Malt Shake
xenamarie 2/3/2010 4:34:00 PM
I really like this gloss. It flatters my fair-med skin tone, looking nude/pinky/caramel. Pearly, opaque, glossy finish. Squeeze tube. Scented but not unpleasant (sorta grape). I will probably purchase another to have as a backup. Purchased separately for $1.00, although I've seen various shades packaged at 3 for $2.00.

Conditioner -Finesse - Moisturizing Conditioner
xenamarie 1/28/2010 3:38:00 PM
I'm about to purchase my 2nd bottle of this and that is saying something! I product-hop on hair and makeup stuff but am loyal when I find something I really like. I have long, blond and fine hair and this lets me comb the tangles out quickly without weighing down my hair. And it makes it so shiny and healthy-looking! Glad I found this, and it's affordable at $3.00 for a very large bottle at Big Lots! (Which is good because now my husband and son are using it!)

Lip Treatments -New York Color - Anti-Feathering Lip Treatment
xenamarie 1/22/2010 4:14:00 PM
I can't believe I haven't reviewed this little gem yet. I've been using this for a couple of years (bought 2-3 tubes so far)....great product, non-drying, long-lasting, cheap - just a terrific bargain! Really does keep lipstick and glosses from bleeding and feathering. It's also odorless, colorless and tasteless (kinda like a good vodka, huh?). Get this ladies, you won't regret it! **UPDATE**Looks to be discontinued...the Sally's version works well too (at checkout counter, clear square tube, about $4.00)

Lip Gloss -Sally Hansen - Natural Butter Lip Shine - Fresh
xenamarie 1/15/2010 3:54:00 PM
I picked this up at Big Lots for $1.00. I don't care for the sweet sickly scent (watermelon?-1 lippie off) but other than that this is a great gloss! Love the brush applicator and the shade (Lush) is a caramel-nude, beautiful color. Slightly sticky and opaque but that makes it last longer. I'll probably pick up a few more before they're gone.

Eye Shadow -Rimmel - Colour Rush Quad in Smoky Brun
xenamarie 1/13/2010 10:59:00 AM
*UPDATE**Making this 5 lippies instead of 4, it's wearing all day (when applied wet) and does not irritate my eyes! I line my waterline with Rimmel Jet Black Kohl pencil liner**I didn't get much out of this quad until I put a drop of Murine Plus eye drops directly on the darkest shadow, then applied it with the applicator (damp). What a difference! I use the dark brown on my lower lashline for the smoky effect and in the crease too. To me, these shades intensify and blend better when damp. (Plain water will work but eye drops give the smoothest result). Smoky, sexy look!

Misc Beauty Tools -E.L.F. - Mechanical Eyelash Curler
xenamarie 12/21/2009 11:07:00 AM
I wasn't looking to buy this but when I spotted it at the supermarket, I remembered the great MUA reviews. Bought it for a buck and tried it the next morning. This curler (the one with the round handles) has already replaced my Revlon because it gets closer to my lashline (so my lashes appear longer), and the pad is round, not square (no crimping!). It came in a plastic, see-through box w/plastic clip on handle, and an extra pad. Like it more than Shu, which I bought at Sephora and swapped awhile back). I'm going to buy a back-up because I just love this curler! EDIT:One lippie off - After using this awhile I found it will pinch if I don't set it perfectly with my lashline (the downside of getting so close to the lashline). The Revlon nevers pinches even if I'm in a hurry. So I've been alternating these curlers, usually using the ELF on weekends when I'm not in a hurry. Glad I didn't toss the Revlon!

Eyeliner -TiGi - Big Fat Fun Eye Pencils
xenamarie 11/18/2009 5:58:00 PM
I like this liner for it's silky application and it does not irritate my contacts. Kinda pricy but it has lasted for over a year now. I use the black shade, the smudger makes it a softer look. I also use Wet-n-Wild's creme liner, alternating these two. I'll repurchase this pencil liner!

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Colossal
xenamarie 9/3/2009 4:20:00 PM
This mascara does build long, thick lashes quickly, but I'll never repurchase it because I can't get past the scent. I expected it to evaporate when it dried, but it lingered all day long, a terrible chemical scent! I'm going back to Volum' Express.

Eyeliner -Wet 'n' Wild - Mega Eyes Creme Eyeliner - Black
xenamarie 4/29/2009 4:08:00 PM
I was about to give up on creme/gel eyeliners altogether, and I'm so glad I finally tried the Wet-n-Wild! (I've tried several others, such as Jane and HIP which are too dry for my liking). This liner goes on so silky and cool/wet, but then dries within seconds and won't budge (I do have to use baby oil at night to remove it). The black shade says true and I just love this stuff! I've replaced the original brush though (it's stiff & scratchy) and use CVS' Essence of Beauty Fine Eye Liner, which needs to be cleaned after every use (baby oil) or this liner can ruin your brush (dries hard!) I've been using this liner for several days and it lasts all day and does not irritate my contact lenses. I line my upper lids heavy/cat eye, but use pencil on lower lashes otherwise it's too harsh-looking. This is a bold, true-black liner! Picked this gem up at Walgreens during a BOGOF. Fantastic value!

Lip Gloss -Revlon - Super Lustrous- Wild About Violet
xenamarie 3/17/2009 12:47:00 PM
I love the SL glosses and the Wild About Violets is the latest one I've tried...lovely pinky-rose on me (but I have to use it over a lipstick, or it does not show up well). I though it would be too violet judging from the package but when I tried it, it appears much softer. Picked this up at Big Lots for $2.00!

Lipstick -Rimmel - Lasting Finish - Scream
xenamarie 1/15/2009 3:53:00 PM
This is scary-bright against my fair-med skin! It doesn't look like it would be so red-orangy (garish on me), but I almost did "scream" when I put it on. I'm able to wear the Bordeaux (deep burgundy) and Nightlife (rosy) but I'll have to save this one for the clubs!
