Moisturizers -Aveeno - Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 30
vwterry 1/29/2010 3:55:00 PM
I love the texture of this product. It is just thick enough to provide a bit of coverage without looking cakey. I love that it is SPF 30 instead of SPF 15, since I want to wear at least SPF 30 on my face and hate layering products. I don't see a shimmer in this product at all. It does give a bit of a dewy look, but nothing shimmery. I wish it came in a lighter shade, though. The fair to light will work for me in the height of summer, but it is too dark the rest of the year. At other times of year, I can get by if I mix in a bit of the lightest shade of Cover Girl tinted moisturizer (which is too light in color and in coverage to work for me alone), but what a pain. I am having a hard time finding this product anymore, and worry that it is being discontinued. Edited to add that I just found it again at Target in September of 2010. Yay! I was not looking forward to trying a bunch of higher-priced tinted moisturizers.

Tinted Moisturizer -Cover Girl - Cover Girl CG Smoothers Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15
vwterry 1/29/2010 3:25:00 PM
Too light/sheer, and color is way too pink. Cover Girl is one of the worst at assuming anyone who has light skin also has pink undertones. Worked ok when blended with the lighter shade of Aveeno tinted moisturizer, which is too dark for me. (I think the Aveeno, which has much better coverage, has been discontinued.)

Liquid -Maybelline - Dream Liquid Mousse
vwterry 4/15/2009 11:18:00 AM
I did not try this product when I first saw it because there is no single shade that would work for me. The lightest definitely is too light/pink, but the next shade looks too dark. This is so frustrating, because I'm usually able to find shades in Maybelline products. The reviewer with pinkish tones in her skin might want to try Cover Girl if she's in the market for drugstore makeup. Their colors tend to be very pink. Finally tried this by blending the two lightest shades. At first, I liked the look, and it didn't seem to break me out, but finally decided it looked too heavy and chalky. It made my pores, even on my cheeks, look HUGE. It was also a disaster in the t-zone. I'd have to use a different makeup there. I decided that tinted moisturizer probably is the way to go.

Crème -Cover Girl - Simply Ageless
vwterry 2/23/2009 11:34:00 AM
I am one of the few who has found this product goes on darker than expected. I followed the advice on the CG web site, choosing the same shade I wear in another CG makeup, and the Simply Ageless definitely is darker than the other CG makeup (same shade). The product definitely does what it promises in that it does not settle into lines nearly as badly as some foundations. I skipped moisurizer/sunscreen over most of my face because the product has SPF, and found the finish a bit cakey on those parts of my face. I would guess it would go on more smoothly over a moisturizer or primer. I might purchase again if I can find a shade that I think would work for me. CG shades skew toward cooler tones, and I have yellow undertones, so it's really hard for me to find a color match with CG foundation.

Styling Products -Garnier - Curl Construct Mousse
vwterry 1/20/2009 9:11:00 AM
Does a good job of keeping frizz at bay and holding curl in low- to medium humidity. I wouldn't say this lives up to its name in that it doesn't seem to encourage curl, but for me, that's a good thing. I don't like products that leave my curls too tight. It does not leave my curls crunchy, which is another plus. Labeled "extra strong", which I don't find accurate. If I had been labeling it, I'd call it medium hold. It doesn't provide enough hold/frizz control in higher humidity, so this is pretty much a winter-only product for me.

Moisturizers -Neutrogena - Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Intensive Night Cream
vwterry 1/20/2009 8:58:00 AM
I've finally found a product that does what it claims. After a few weeks of use, the lines on my forehead, upper cheeks (just below my eyes) and around my mouth definitely were less noticeable. The drugstore price is a nice bonus. I get similar results with Olay Age Defying night cream, but that product's label warns against use around the eyes. After weeks of searching for a cream I can use close to my eyes, I put a little of this just below the corners of my eyes (the area where my eye skin looks its worst) and saw a dramatic difference overnight.

Treatments (Eye) -Boscia - Enlivening Amino-AG Eye Treatment
vwterry 1/20/2009 8:49:00 AM
After trying a Boscia cleanser and liking it fine, I thought I'd try one of their eye products. I don't like the texture of this product. It is too slippery; it almost feels as if it contains silicone. (It may have something like dimethicone.) I might suffer through the offensive texture if it did something beneficial for my eyes. It didn't. After about a week of use, my dark circles were worse (if that's possible--I have genetic dark cirlces) and my undereye skin was even drier/crepier than before. This purchase was a complete waste of money, and the product isn't even good as a hand cream (what I often do with reject facial moisturizers) because of the slimy feel.

Concealers -Maybelline - Instant Age Rewind Concealer [DISCONTINUED]
vwterry 12/22/2008 5:34:00 PM
Very good concealer, and I'm not sure what I'm going to do when I use the last drops in the package I have. I know this product has been discontinued (darn!!), and everything I've tried to replace it has made my skin look awful or just didn't come in a shade that matches my skin. The lightest shade of the new formulation of Age Rewind is way too dark for me, and creases terribly, unlike the old formula. Yes, I would buy this product again, if only they still made it!

Moisturizers -DHC - Rich Moisture
vwterry 12/19/2008 4:24:00 PM
I had some irritation and dryness around my eyes from the foundation I was using (Revlon Age Defying for dry skin--I think the SPF was the irritant), and reached for this sample packet out of desperation. (I had tried a few DHC products in the past and had a stash of their samples.) It's a good nighttime moisturizer for that area, but too heavy/greasy for daytime. Will not purchase because Aquaphor does the same thing for much less money.

Concealers -Lancome - Effacernes
vwterry 12/19/2008 3:58:00 PM
This is a strange review in that I give the product 5 lippies but no longer buy it. It is too drying for me anymore, but when I was younger, I absolutely loved it. It was the only thing on the planet that came in a shade that worked with my skin, adequately camouflaged dark circles AND stayed on for more than an hour or two without having to be reapplied. I loved Clinique foundations but their concealer just slid off my skin, as did every other liquid concealer I tried. (Stick concealers always looked awful on me.) After reading reviews of other women my age, I have to confess that I'm tempted to try it again. I'm wondering if it would work for me again if I found the right eye cream to wear underneath. (That's an ongoing search for me!)

Concealers -Neutrogena - 3-in-1 Concealer for Eyes
vwterry 12/15/2008 10:14:00 AM
This product is way too drying for my very sensitive undereye skin. Even though I wouldn't use it as an undereye concealer, I'm giving it three lippies because it makes a great eyelid primer. It does a great job of reducing the extreme shininess I have in that area.

Moisturizers -Olay - Age Defying Intensive Nourishing Night Cream
vwterry 12/15/2008 10:11:00 AM
I have been using this cream for a week or so and already notice that the lines in my forehead and at the very tops of my cheeks (just below my eyes) are less pronounced. I am terrified of breakouts because my skin just doesn't heal the way it used to, but I see absolutely no bumps on my skin. (I am not using it on my most breakout-prone areas, my lower cheeks.) Definitely gives enough moisture for me, though I don't have terribly dry skin. This is an improvement over Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Intensive Night Cream (what a mouthful!), which I thought was pretty good. Definitely will repurchase. It's a steal at $10. I just wish Olay (or someone!) would make a product this good for the eye area. The label on this product states that it is not to be used around the eyes.

Lip Treatments -Alba Botanica - Coconut Cream Lip Balm
vwterry 10/24/2008 10:54:00 AM
I love the scent of this lip balm, and it works pretty well. It is best on lips that are just dry, not chapped. For chapped lips, Burt's Bees is best I love that the adjustment dial on the package is near the top instead of on the bottom. It's a bit pricier than most lip balms, but the luscious scent is worth it

Lip Treatments -Burt's Bees - Beeswax Lip Balm
vwterry 10/24/2008 10:52:00 AM
This is my favorite lip balm of all time. Nice scent, and works great. A little pricey, but well worth it. For scent, my favorite is like Alba Coconut Cream, but that is better on lips that are just dry, not chapped.

Cleansers -Alba Botanica - Sea Mineral Cleansing Gel
vwterry 10/24/2008 10:47:00 AM
I have looked and looked for an oil-free, paraben-free cleanser that won't dry out my skin, and now my search is over. After using this product, my skin feels clean and soft, not tight and stripped. The scent is somewhat strong, but I find it very pleasant. I didn't classify it as "dirt cheap," but was pleasantly surprised at the price, and love that I can get it locally and don't have to pay shipping. Edited to add that this product turned out to be too drying during the winter months. I still plan to go back to it during the summer because of the wonderful scent.
