Mascara -mark - Lash all you want high volume
rated 3 of 5
tomakeupchick 11/11/2011 10:36:00 AM

I was actually given this product by someone who loves it. All I can say is I am glad I didn't waste my money on it. It isn't the worst mascara in the world, but it really isn't anything special at all. I really can't say anything other than this is an average mascara, darkens lashes gives a bit of volume and curl (but the curl doesn't last). Price wise I believe this is more expensive than several drugstore brands (covergirl, maybelline, rimmel etc) and I think you are better off with one of the drugstore brands. I would not "repurchase" this product as I feel there are better mascaras out there in the same price point.

Crème -Maybelline - Dream Smooth Mousse
rated 4 of 5
tomakeupchick 11/11/2011 10:30:00 AM

I primarily use this foundation in the winter. This product is geared towards ladies with dry skin, and if you have dry skin you will not be disappointed. If you have very oily skin, you should probably stay away. I have combination skin that leans more towards oily in the summer and dry in the cold Canadian winter. I bought this primarily for winter use, when the ice cold winds give my poor skin a beating and I feel as though I need that extra bit of hydration/ moisture that you don't get from powders and I wanted a compact to fit in my purse. This product was a surprise. I bought it because I was curious about the texture and it was only about $6 (CAN) so I didn't have much to loose. This is actually a very good foundation. The Pros: - Highly pigmented so a little goes a long way. - Very good coverage (I would say you get medium coverage with a thin layer of the stuff). - Appears natural - Didn't cause any breakouts - Lasts a decent amount of time ( I would say 6-8 hours without primer or setting powder) and - Feels like you are not wearing anything at all on your face. Cons: - Packaging isn't anything special. It is bulky and awkward. It comes with a sponge you should toss as it will pick up too much product and just not apply well. I found this product to work horribly with the sponge provided but worked VERY WELL when applied with a brush. The brush allows you to pick up less product and with this product less is definitely more. Half of the package is dedicated to this useless sponge and there is no mirror. There is also very little product as a result of the packaging. - Limited colour selection. I found a colour that worked amazingly well for me, almost a perfect match, but I think the colours are actually lighter than they appear in the package and there aren't many options so you definitely need to test before you buy. - Some transfer. There is some minimal colour transfer with this product but I find if I use a setting powder this is not an issue. Overall this is an excellent foundation that applies smoothly and blends easily. Good pigmentation. Would definitely repurchase.

Lip Treatments -Burt's Bees - Beeswax Lip Balm
rated 1 of 5
tomakeupchick 11/10/2011 10:25:00 PM

This review is for the lip balm that comes in the tin not stick format. First let's talk about packaging..horrible! I have to struggle to get the stupid thing open and then once it is finally open I'm stuck with rock hard product that doesn't really want to leave the tin either. It is too hard to just swipe your finger across (like blistex tubes) and you have to kind of dig at it to get any out. Then you're left with chunks of the stuff, under your nails etc and you need to really work to spread it out evenly. I ultimately got a very small lip brush to apply the product with because it is just to hard to get it out otherwise. As for the product itself, it isn't bad but it isn't anything special. I like the minty tingling on my lips but it doesn't last. In fact the product itself doesn't last very long (after all that work to get the lid off and the product out). The product is very much like hard wax, feels waxy on and provides minimal moisture. I paid about $5 (CAN) for it which was way to much. There are better products out there, in better packaging for much less. I would not repurchase.

Lip Treatments -Nivea - A Kiss of Moisture
rated 4 of 5
tomakeupchick 11/10/2011 10:17:00 PM

This is a nice lip product. Pros: It goes on smoothly, and does moisturize dry lips. It isn't sticky or shiny, just like your own natural lips but better. Scent is minor and not offensive, no noticeable taste. Cons: Doesn't last long so you will need to reapply. Conclusion. This is a good basic lip balm. It is decently priced and packaged and it will do the basic everyday lip moisture thing quite well. It is not going to cut it in the dead of winter when I have super chapped lips but I have my blistex lip medex for that. It does apply extremely well, no tugging or struggling with it and it is excellent under lipstick (no stickiness or excessive product left behind to ruin lipstick application). Overall good product and would definitely repurchase.

Powder -Bare Escentuals - Bare Minerals ALL
rated 2 of 5
tomakeupchick 10/30/2011 11:05:00 AM

I bought this a very long time ago after watching one too many infomercials. This is a review for the original product, not the matte version which I have never tried and don't intend to after my experience with this product.Overall I think this is not worth repurchasing. There are far better mineral products out there if mineral makeup is what you are looking for. I have combo skin, that is somewhat sensitive. I found that this does indeed provide a natural look - in part because it is so sheer. I would classify this as light to medium coverage (emphasis on light). It evens out skin tone, wasn't uncomfortable on my skin and was very natural looking. It did not cause any breakouts. Now for the cons: Messy. Oh my goodness messy! I have to keep it in its own box which despite best efforts always contains a light coating of foundation. When I put it on my face it gets on everything I can actually see it in the air as I apply...then see it on my counter when I am done. There is no way I would ever put this in my bag to carry with me. Lasting power: Virtually none. I have compared this to other mineral products I have tried and the rest seem to last the day but this one only lasts a few hours and then it is all gone. I suspect it is because it transfers onto everything and is so sheer to begin with but I am not certain. Irritation/itch: For some reason, this is the only foundation ever that makes me itch as soon as I apply it. Now the itch does in fact subside after a bit and doesn't result in any redness, rash, or breakouts of any kind but is unpleasant, and in my opinion, unnecessary. I have never had this reaction from any other foundation I have tried, and I have been through many in my time. Now I do have somewhat sensitive skin so if you do not this may not be a problem for you.

Masks -St. Ives - Mineral Clay Firming Masque
rated 4 of 5
tomakeupchick 10/29/2011 6:54:00 PM

I have had this product for quite some time. I picked it up on a whim at Walmart for about $3.00 (CAN) and thought well if it completely sucks it was only 3 bucks. What a pleasant surprise! This is a very good mask for the price point. I use it for deep cleaning and not for daily use. I find it does a great job of cleaning out my pores and minimizing the appearance of pores and a very good job of deep cleansing overall. Firming...not so much. I feel the mask tightening my skin etc but I feel all masks do this and the effect is extremely temporary. Overall an excellent product for the price point and would buy again. I would not recommend this for daily use (well at least not if you have sensitive skin). I personally feel it is too harsh for daily use. I have sensitive skin and do feel a bit of something, not sure how to describe it, it is a bit uncomfortable but not unbearable when I use it.

Eye Shadow -Wet 'n' Wild - Color Icon Trio - Sweet as Candy
rated 5 of 5
tomakeupchick 10/5/2011 2:49:00 PM

A very pleasant surprise. I picked this up because i thought the colours were pretty and I figured it was cheap (under $3) so if I hated it, at least I hadn't spent much. Well, I love it. I think Wet n Wild has really improved their product (at least their eyeshadows) over the years. The colours are highly pigmented and long lasting. I am able to create a variety of very pretty day looks and feel confident that my eyemakeup will last the workday. Overall, an excellent purchase. Quality far exceeds its very modest pricing. I have paid far more for far worse. Would definitely repurchase.

Treatments -Clinique - Turnaround Concentrate [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
tomakeupchick 9/17/2011 8:53:00 PM

This is an excellent product. Clinique advertises this as an exfoliating treatment. I found this to work very well, with both brightening my complexion and reducing dark spots (in fact this actually worked much better than the dark spot remover serum they sell). Makes my skin very soft, bright and overall improved. No break outs and no reactions. Definitely would buy again.

Treatments -Clinique - Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector
rated 1 of 5
tomakeupchick 9/13/2011 10:11:00 AM

This product is simply an overpriced, over hyped moisturizer for me. It was a decent moisturizer I guess, but nothing spectacular and did nothing at all with respect to lightening up dark spots. Waste of money. Would not repurchase. EDIT: This product is indeed not listed as a moisturizer. It is classified as an exfoliator by Clinique - a serum as noted above. And well, it doesn't do that at all. lt did however provide some moisture hence I called it that. Save your money and spend it on something that does work. Clinique turnaround concentrate. This does exfoliate and improves skin over time.

Liquid -Lancome - Teint Miracle
rated 4 of 5
tomakeupchick 9/12/2011 9:13:00 PM

Let me start off by saying how impressed I was with this foundation. It was everything I wanted MUFE HD to be. It is lightweight with medium coverage (although I suspect that if you require more coverage you could build it up), that goes on smoothly, blends extremely well and makes your skin look amazing all while making it look like you aren't wearing any makeup at all (in a good way!). The texture appears lighter than most foundations but do not be deceived by this, this is part of the reason (I suspect) that it blends so well. I love the packaging. The pump is extremely workable, I find half a pump is more than adequate for the job. In this case a little really does go a long way. Fine lines were not accentuated at all by this. In fact I don't think this emphasized any of my flaws, but rather hid them quite well, and very naturally, giving me what mother nature did not. I have combination skin and I don't think this would work well on oily skin, although you would have to try it for yourself to be sure. If you have oily skin, get a sample first as, while this isn't the most expensive foundation no the market, it isn't the cheapest on the market either. It has a very natural finish, not matte and not greasy looking either. Skin just looks healthy and fresh. I have not tried this with a primer yet, but it lasts me all day without one. I have tested it on a hot and slightly humid day, and it held up all day, with none- minimal transfer. With the heat and humidity I did set it with a powder as I was afraid to become an oily mess. It held up remarkably well, even though I was outside for extended periods of time, walking around etc. My only concern is whether this would hold up under extreme heat and humidity for prolonged periods of time (as in the summer my skin tends to go more towards oily and right now it isn't that oily). I will be sure to update my review once I have had a chance to test it under these conditions. If it does hold up, then its everyday HG for me. Perfect for everyday wear, making you looking naturally flawless and healthy (I only wish it was a tad cheaper [ it cost me $49CDN] :( but it is a good product and is within the average price range of foundations in its class so I won't begrudge it the price too much).

Treatments (Eye) -Clinique - All About Eyes Serum De-Puffing Eye Massage
rated 4 of 5
tomakeupchick 9/10/2011 11:44:00 AM

What do I love about this product? How it soothes tired eyes. I bought it for the purpose of aiding with bags and dark circles. I can say it does help with bags although it has done little for my dark circles. What I was not expecting and the reason why I love this is how lovely it feels when my eyes are tired. Morning or night, whenever my eyes feel tired, using this always makes me feel better, the cooling sensation and the roller balls gentle massage are great. I LOVE that I can use this over my makeup without worrying it will take off my concealer or disturb my makeup. It absolutely doesn't. Provides a nice cool sensation and the serum goes on smoothly without disturbing what is underneath. It is a bit pricey but I have had this for almost a year so I would say that it is worth it (and I use this daily) one lippie off because it didn't really do anything for dark circles. Overall I am quite happy with this purchase and would definitely buy again.

Eye Shadow -Wet 'n' Wild - Color Icon Eyeshadow Collection - Petal Pusher (736)
rated 4 of 5
tomakeupchick 9/6/2011 10:05:00 PM

This is definitely a great buy. For the price you pay the quality is excellent. I have paid a lot more money for similar if not worse quality. Not all the colours are clear winners but most are. They are all quite pigmented and last at least 6 hours - which is not bad considering that at $5 for the set, it comes out to less than $1 each colour. I'm not a WnW person, and only bought this on a whim. Someone had left it at the cash register when I was checking out some other things. I thought the colours were pretty and when I found out how much it was I figured, hey, why not. I was extremely surprised by the overall quality. So much so I went out to buy the other two sets. A great buy!

Concealers -Smashbox - High Definition Concealer
rated 4 of 5
tomakeupchick 9/6/2011 5:30:00 PM

Ok so I was talked into buying this product by an SDM SA, and I almost returned it the very next day. I have extremely dark circles and originally felt this was doing nothing for me. The texture is very light and very different from my normal concealers and I think that is what first mislead me. It was while I was taking off my makeup that I realized it was doing more than I thought. So then I did a comparison and put it only on one side of my face to see if there was any kind of difference- and there was. One side of my face had horrific circles and the other had still some darkness but no where near as bad as the no concealer side. This product is so thin and sheer that you feel like you have nothing on and it looks like you have nothing on, its just you but improved. And therein lies its beauty. You can build up coverage with this by layering without looking like/feeling like you have tons of makeup on. It is very natural but it does improve the under eye circles and when layered can do a very good job of masking them. I can see this being HG for many many people.

Concealers -Revlon - Age Defying Moisturizing Concealer (New) [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
tomakeupchick 9/6/2011 5:18:00 PM

I was pleasantly surprised by this product. It isn't bad at all. Good coverage, and texture. I use it primarily for under eye circles but I have also used it on blemishes etc. Pretty good coverage for dark circles. Didn't accentuate fine lines, or crease. Works very well over blemishes. Good price point. Only two issues (hence 1 lippie off), the colour selection is quite limited. While I was able to find a shade that worked for me, I can see many people not finding one that works for them. Which truly is a shame as this is a very good product. My other issue is longevity. Unfortunately this does not last me a full day under my eyes and by the end of the day some of the darkness does come through. But overall a very good product at an excellent price. Will definitely repurchase.
