Cleansers -Unlisted Brand - Face Reality Sensitive Skin Cleansing Gel
rated 4 of 5
slim34 3/19/2009 3:31:00 PM

Update (5/26/11): I lowered my rating from 5 to 4 stars, based on formulation changes made to the cleanser. I still use it, but I don't find it nearly as gentle as the old formula was (see Barbi's comments in her review). I'd still recommend it as a good, basic cleanser for acne-prones, but it might be less effective for those with really sensitive skin.

Makeup Brushes -Ecotools - Bamboo 5 Pieces Brush Set (Mineral Makeup)
rated 5 of 5
slim34 3/12/2009 10:02:00 AM

I was very surprised at the quality of these inexpensive brushes. I picked them up at Walgreens on a whim - most of the time I wouldn't even think of buying makeup brushes at the drugstore. I absolutely love the mini-kabuki brush. It really works well for my mineral foundation - it applies the makeup evenly and the brush is soooo soft! I use the blush brush as a loose powder brush and really like it too. I haven't had much use for the concealer brush or the eyeshadow brush yet, but I think this set would be worth purchasing for the kabuki brush alone. I would definitely repurchase!

Toners -Unlisted Brand - Face Reality Skin Care - Salicylic Antiseptic Toner
rated 5 of 5
slim34 3/2/2009 9:06:00 PM

I love this toner because it does not contain alcohol (hard to find one that doesn't!), so it does not dry out my skin. It contains just a small amount of salicylic acid, so its not meant to be a primary acne treatment product. I use it in the morning after washing my face, before using my other skin care products. Its really light, doesn't sting when I apply it and gets rid of any leftover flakies on my skin. I've been using it for over 2 yrs now and it still gives me great results.

Moisturizers -Unlisted Brand - Face Reality Skin Care - Hydrating Emulsion
rated 5 of 5
slim34 2/28/2009 4:55:00 PM

This is a really nice, light, water-based moisturizer. Its great for those with oily skin, who don't want a heavy moisturizer. It also works well when layered under other moisturizers (or under a moisturizing sunscreen) as an additional source of hydration. I do this when I am in really dry environments, traveling on airplanes, or any other times when my skin is particularly dry. The Hydrating Emulsion can also be used under acne medications. Since it is water based, it still allows the medications to penetrate the skin. I use this most days - either at night or in the morning. It has never clogged my pores and it feels nice a soothing on my skin. Definitely one of my fav products!!!

Skincare - Face -Unlisted Brand - Face Reality Skincare
rated 5 of 5

This clinic's product line is really amazing for acne prone skin. I started using their products and receiving treatments from the clinic over 2 1/2 years ago. Let me say that they really have done an incredible job at getting and keeping my skin clear. I had mild, but stubborn noninflamed acne on my forehead, nose and chin and also mild inflamed breakouts on my chin. They got the problem under control for me in less than 3 months. I love all of the Face Reality products that I have tried. They sell some of their non-treatment products online (mositurizers, sunscreens, toner, cleanser). The treatment products (benzoyl peroxide, glycolic and mandelic acid serums, etc.) are only sold to the clinic's clients. They do work with clients long distance though, so if you are looking for a way to get your acne under control, I would highly recommend checking out this clinic. For those who are just looking for a good noncomedogenic suncreen, moisturizer or cleanser, definitely give Face Reality's products a try. I have used their toner, sunscreen, cranberry cream, silica scrub, and hydrating emulsion. I have gotten good results from all of the products I have tried and none of them have clogged my pores or caused any skin irritation. Staff at this clinic are extremely friendly, helpful, and are true experts at treating acne-prone skin. They will answer questions for you about the products and always respond very quickly to questions or concerns from their clients. What I like most about their approach is that treatments are individualized to meet your own specific skin needs (since everyone's skin is different and responds differently to products) - they take into consideration your acne type, acne severity, and skin sensitivity before making treatment recommendations. This is sooo much better than the other "one-size-fits-all" approach that most acne treatment lines use. Plus, you have the added bonus of having access to the clinic's excellent, knowledgeable staff. Check 'em out!!!

Scrubs -Unlisted Brand - Face Reality Skin Care Silica Scrub
rated 5 of 5
slim34 2/28/2009 2:51:00 PM

This is a great scrub for exfoliating the skin. Its not harsh or irritating like many other scrubs I have tried in the past. It contains fine polyethylene beads, so it is very gentle on the skin. The product is from Face Reality Acne and Skin Care Clinic - all of their products are formuated for acne prone skin, so there is nothing in the cleanser that will clog your pores. This scrub is really good for people who have mostly noninflamed acne (I wouldn't use it if you have a lot of inflamed acne or cysts or if you have very sensitive skin). It works great for me - keeps my skin exfoliated and it helps me keep my mild noninflamed acne under control. I've been using this scrub for over 2 years now, and still love the results I get from it.

Concealers -Almay - Skin-Smoothing Concealer with Kinetin SPF 10
rated 3 of 5
slim34 8/15/2008 4:46:00 PM

This concealer is ok - its not my first choice, but it works well if my skin is dry or flaky. The color blends well with my skin and looks very natural. It does tend to wear off more quickly than other concealers I have tried though.

Powder -Unlisted Brand - Mineralogie
rated 5 of 5
slim34 8/15/2008 4:44:00 PM

I love Mineralogie's mineral makeup! I have a color that is custom-blended to match my skin tone and it looks very natural. It is pretty easy to apply (it was my first attempt at mineral makeup, so it took some practice!). I would definitely repurchase.

Eye Makeup Remover -L'Oreal - Refreshing Eye Make Up Remover
rated 4 of 5
slim34 8/15/2008 4:42:00 PM

I like this makeup remover because it does not leave an oily residue on my eyelids after using it. I can even use it in the morning before doing my makeup and can apply eye makeup afterwards without it sliding off my skin (which happens to me with most other eye makeup removers). Its gentle and does not sting my eyes or irritate my skin at all. It has a clean feel to it, which is nice.

Skincare - Body -Gold Bond - Medicated Body Powder
rated 5 of 5
slim34 8/15/2008 4:37:00 PM

I started using this to battle a mild, but persistent folliculitis problem on my chest. It really helps to keep my skin dry, especially overnight. It does have a strong, medicinal smell, so I don't usually use it during the day (I do put it in my stinky ballroom dance shoes, and it does cut the foot odor smell down a lot!)

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Vivant Mandelic Acid Serum 15%
rated 4 of 5
slim34 8/15/2008 4:34:00 PM

This is a very clean mandelic product, without many extra ingredients. I found that it works great on my slightly breakout-prone skin, and does a wonderful job at tightening the pores on my nose. The main problem I have with this product is the high alcohol content. This does work very well at reducing clogged pores and lightening red marks though!

Concealers -Almay - Clear Complexion Blemish Healing Spot Concealer
rated 5 of 5
slim34 8/15/2008 4:25:00 PM

I really like this concealer a lot. It is slightly on the thick side, so it covers any discoloration really well. It goes on smoothly and tends to stay in place pretty well. I have fair skin and the lightest shade works great for me.

Blush -Revlon - Cream Blush in Rosy Glow
rated 5 of 5
slim34 10/6/2007 4:24:00 PM

I love this product. It goes on smoothly, the color is great for my fair skin. It lasts the whole day for me, and I find I don't need to apply very much to get a nice glow. I've tried going back to powder blushes, but still end up coming back to this Revlon cream blush.

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Vivant - Derm A Gel
rated 5 of 5
slim34 9/16/2007 5:23:00 PM

This is the only retinoid I have been able to use that doesn't overly irritate my skin and flare up my acne. I can use this twice a day without any problems, It goes on smoothly (you don't need much) and does not irritate my skin. The only downside is that it doesn't quite control my acne breakouts 100%, so I also use 5% benzoyl peroxide and Finacea. I've been using the Derm A gel for a year now, and I can say that it has made significant improvements in my skin. It also contains lactic acid, which allows for additional exfoliation and better product penetration.

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Differin Gel
rated 1 of 5
slim34 9/16/2007 5:19:00 PM

I was prescribed Differin by my derm to clear some mild, non-inflamed acne (and occasional inflamed chin pimples). It made my skin 10x worse within the first two weeks. It gave me inflamed red bumps all over my chin, which never went away for the entire 2 months I was using Differin. I didn't start to improve until I went off Differin and started going to an esthetician who specializes in treating acne. I hated this stuff!!!!!
