Mascara -Maybelline - Great Lash Mascara

I didn't buy this. Never will I waste money on such crap if it can be helped. My friend let me "test it out". She bought it after I specifically warned her that this is the WORST mascara in the world (according to reviews here. It's everything they say and more! I mean that in the worst possible way. It's like everything you DON'T want in a mascara! This is definitely a case of Don't Believe the Hype, and the hype is HUGE. I'm outraged they still produce this and put it in all the magasines even after countless MAs stated their dislike of the product [not to mention countless consumers too]. I'd give it a zero for managing to make my nice, long lashes look bad.

Liquid -Maybelline - Pure Makeup [DISCONTINUED]

I couldn't wait to rate this foundation. I have to say that I think I have found my HG! I have normal/dry skin and after using SPF this has the perfect amount of moisture. I picked it up for about $6.40 CAD, which I think is great, however- the tube is very small. It promices to be oil free and non-comedogenic; even good for your skin! I don't know about that. What I do know is that the lightest colour matches me perfectly. The finish (It's not super matte, but not dewy either) is just right and it's long lasting. In fact I wore it for 3 days straight and I looked as good at the end of each day as I did in the beginning, with no touchups. Didn't irritate or break out my sensitive skin. The coverage is about medium, but it definitely covered minor flaws. My skin looked amazing! I love this stuff, it rivals EL foundations for me at about 1/6 the price.

Mascara -Maybelline - Full 'N Soft Mascara
rated 4 of 5
silvercatt 11/9/2005 5:34:00 PM

I already wrote a review for this, however After using it almost daily for the past month and a half, I have to reconsider my bad rating.
I'm sticking with the fact that it's so far from waterproof, it's practically water in itself. Meaning: stay AWAY from liquids that could potentially touch your lashes/eyes!
Ok, well, for the good part; the price is awesome, the colour is true black, the brush is really nice too. My lashes end up defined and not clumpy. I stick to 1 or two coat, so they look very natural but with more oomph. I think it takes some practice using because it CAN clump (like all mascaras). I love that my lashes are not crunchy or stiff. The main-reason I changed my review is because I compared it to quite a few high end brands and a couple more d/s ones and this came out tops (along with 2 other d/s mascaras and one high end) all things considered. Not sure if it's the best, but it's one of the best anyways.

Moisturizers -Unlisted Brand - ombra Moisturizing Cream with Camomile Extract

Ok, first I have to tell you these things:

So, what do I think? I think it's great for DRY SKIN! Note this and roll with it since this contains mineral oil as one of the top listed ingredients. It also contains chamomile to soothe your skin and comes in a formula for EXTRA PARCHED (read super extra dry) skin with vitamins A+E. Not sure how well that would work though since the only difference I saw was in the amount of mineral oil (more) and a few differences in ingredients towards the end.
It felt amazing on my skin and was easily absorbed, moisturized my face for hours with only a little applied. I think the price is great , however, note that it can cause breakouts to those of you who are oil-sensitive. I may have to discontinue using this if my skin keeps getting more oily (or stop using nivea for a while) and will not use this in the summer. However it did not break me out or cause any reactions on my skin. Otherwise, a definite thumbs up!

Misc Beauty Tools -New York Color - Eyelash Curler
rated 2 of 5

I may be insane: but this does not work for me. It doesn't pinch or hurt or do anything like that, but it doesn't curl my lashes either. I think it does not fit my eye properly and maybe my lashes are too long? they get stuck here and there... Actually one of my lashes is now curled backwards because of this. Oh joy... not horrid, but not my cuppa tea. I'll try la-cross or Revlon or something. Oh and I HATE that this is pink. Cutesy crap.

Blush -Wet 'n' Wild - Twist-up Blush Stick [DISCONTINUED]
rated 3 of 5
silvercatt 10/29/2005 11:14:00 AM

I think 3.5 lippies would do this product justice. I bought this is barely twisted (I think), the lightest shade. I like the colour that I get but it's not the kind of blush that provides an uber-natural or flushed look. I suppose I like the packaging, because it's (somewhat) easy to use. However don;t press to hard or it'l streak. At least it's easy to blend. You get a LOT. I've had this for about 2 years and I used this for at least 6 months straight out of that time. I still have most of the tube. It doesn't last long on your face though, which is bad. All in all, an ok product. Not a waste of money but nothing impressive. No repurchasing for me. I'll stick to Jane blush.

Lip Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Ecolips Sport SPF30
rated 5 of 5
silvercatt 10/28/2005 11:43:00 PM

This is an organic Product available at many many health food stores and a lot of places that carry Burt's Bees products. I am/was a loyal devotee to the Original Beeswax Balm from Burt's line, however it dehydrated my lips during the winter and I thought I would try something else. I wanted to buy something with good SPF and figured why NOT organic? So I went to my nearest Your Good Health store and picked the sports version from ECOLIPS. There's 6 varieties I believe and I skipped over the mint. This feels SO smooth going on and lasts a while. It moisturizes well (not amazingly but better than most) is inexpensive (2.99 CAD) and has a great SPF. plus it's organic. All around great. Can be purchased online at the ecolips.com site too if unable to find locally.

Lip Liners -Wet 'n' Wild - #666 liner
rated 5 of 5
silvercatt 10/28/2005 11:25:00 PM

I would agree that this is a staple. I thought it was too brown when I bought it (but it's cheap so I figured why not?) but it;s actually very nice. And smooth for such a cheap product. Doesn't look too brown on my lips. (dark colouring but pale, neutral skin, pinkish mauve lips) Definitely will repurchase.

Moisturizers -Nivea - Creme

Ok wow. No I mean WOW!
anyone who spends time on the boards will probably tell you that I have been complaining non-stop about my dry skin. It's such a PAIN to find makeup that hydrates or at least doesn't accentuate dry patches and lasts a while. Well, I gave up on the makeup thing and decided to try using a tried and true product. I use to use this when I was much younger because even then I had dry-ish incredibly pale skin and it worked. However I had my reservations because a)I have more sensitive skin now, b)I use to use the european formula (which I still say is superior to the one made in Mexico) and c) this has alcohol in it (dry skin and alcohol is a nono). I bought it anyways and now use it as soon as I wash my face morning and night, and put on MAC Select tint SPF 15 over it in the morning. thats all. I use to have to do deep exfoliation every morning(!) to get rid of the flakiness and then moisturize 3 times! and even then the dry patches would come back.
My skin looks so much better because the redness went away and it's not dry or flaky anymore. I can now wear the makeup I want and it lasts much longer. YAY.
Miraculous. No breakouts either and it's inexpensive. Definite HG for the winter spring and fall.

Concealers -Rimmel - Hydrasense Flawless Concealer
rated 4 of 5
silvercatt 10/23/2005 12:28:00 AM

I'm not sure what to say about this concealer. I'll organize it for you:
Good: Relatively hydrating, relatively long lasting, great colour(yellow based but not overwhelmingly so), great price, easy to apply, easy to find and it does not cause breakouts. I find it's good for under eyes as it does not cake there and it's smooth/thin enough to be easily applied without tugging at the skin. The colour also seems to brighten the under-eye area although it's too dark for anything else.
Bad: Can get cakey after a few hours OR slide off on more oily faces. The packaging looks normal, but the sponge applicator is deceiving and not all that hygenic. The coverage is somewhat sheer unless layered.
Overall: I gave this four stars because, although it's not the best concealer out there, it is one of the best concealers I have tried especially for the price.

Liquid -Estee Lauder - Futurist Foundation
rated 4 of 5
silvercatt 10/18/2005 12:42:00 PM

I'm so sad! I wish this was my HG foundation because it blended beautifully and the colour match was perfect!
Alas, it is not my HG because it's not moisturizing enough. even though the lasting power is amazing (one non-powder touchup from 7am-9pm) my flakiness becomes apparent within an hour of application. I think I will attempt to cure my extreme dryness from the inside and then re-try this foundation because it feels so great. the coverage is excellent too (medium/somewhat full coverage). Overall, I'll look into it again, in the meantime 4 lippies.

Skincare - Face -Unlisted Brand - Pampers Natural Aloe Touch Baby Wipes (Unscented)
rated 4 of 5
silvercatt 10/16/2005 6:54:00 PM

I bought huggies Natural Care travel baby wipes. Used them for several days to remove dirt and makeup in the evening.
verdict: This has slight exfoliating properties, so it's not for daily use by people with sensitive skin (aka me). it does however remove all my non-waterproof makeup and cleans without stripping my skin too much. It's really inexpensive, so I think I will buy the sensitive skin formula in the tub, refill this travel box and use it strictly for on the go.

Liquid -Estee Lauder - Individualist Natural Finish Makeup [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
silvercatt 10/15/2005 10:02:00 PM

I am getting the urge to kill the Estee Lauder SA who gave me this sample! She almost turned me off from this foundation. Brief explanation:
Went to the D.S. to get a sample of Futurist. The SA was a middle ages completely EVIL woman who sounded like she was mad at the world. Instead she gave me a minuscule amount of Individualist in 1N1(fair) which is too dark. I wanted to get away as fast as I could, so I grabbed it and left. Made my way to a different D.S. and asked the SA to pick a Futurist shade for me. She was super helpful and picked the perfect tone for me(porcelain).
I got home, wanted to try one of them on and didn't want to waste my perfect sample so I tried the Individualist.
My god! This stuff is great! I'm a drug store buyer for the most part and even compared to my MAC select tint, this is amazing. You can't tell it's a foundation(which is the point) -even on my dry, flaky skin- but the coverage is just a notch below medium so my skin isn't "flawless". Still, it's great.
I want to try my futurist sample and then maybe I'll get the right colour of this.
In the meantime I'd recommend it.

DEFINITELY without a doubt my HG daily moisturizer.
i'm so happy. It's a bit expensive for a drugstore moisturizer, but it's well woth it. great SPF (UVA and UVB) sun protection, non-greasy moisturizing formula. No breakouts, no irritation.
The package is a bit small though.

Liquid -MAC - Select Tint SPF 15 ] [DISCONTINUED]
rated 3 of 5
silvercatt 10/10/2005 12:21:00 PM

I got this last week. Ordered it online because that's the only way I could not freak out over the price (I'm a student, and therefore my budget is TIGHT). This is the first time that I have gotten compliments on the tone of my skin.
I have very dry skin (especially during the colder seasons) and with over 90% of the foundations I have tried(mostly low/medium price range), there were visible dry patches. even if they moisturized initially, in a couple of hours my skin would be dry and flaky again.
I bought NC20 and it's a bit too dark, but is the lightest choice, eliminates the grayness and ruddiness that I usually have, and (for me) has the perfect coverage; covered minor imperfections. I still have to moisturize under this, but at least it lasts all day. I wish my skin wasn't so patchy, beause even though I like this, it shows off all the flakes. I think this would be better for normal/combination skin because it's a bit matte for me. I would like something more dewy as this can cake on me (oddly enough).
