Polishes -Butter London - All Hail the Queen
rated 4 of 5

The overall color of this polish isn't anything special, but the holographic shine in it really sets it apart. I've never used another polish that looks quite as beautiful in the sun or under bright light.

Top/Base Coats -Butter London - Nail Foundation Flawless Basecoat
rated 4 of 5
rcmann 11/14/2011 8:47:00 PM

I've used this under both Butter London and other nail polish brands, and it works very well. It dries quickly and seems to make polish go on more smoothly and stay on longer.

Polishes -Butter London - Pink Ribbon
rated 4 of 5
rcmann 11/14/2011 8:43:00 PM

This is a very sheer pink. It has just enough color (after two coats) to give nails a classy but low-maintenance look.

Misc Beauty Tools -Unlisted Brand - Schick Intuition razor
rated 2 of 5
rcmann 4/5/2009 11:44:00 AM

The concept of this product is great, and I really want it to work. But, unfortunately, it's just an overpriced conduit to scabby legs. (Although, really, the price is irrelevant. Even if it was cheap it still wouldn't be worth it.) The first few uses, the shaving bar is too thick, so you have to push down on the handle just for the razor to touch your skin. Obviously, this isn't a good scenario for places like ankles and knees. The bar wears down and the razor dulls quickly, so the last few shaves are dangerous for those reasons. Somewhere in between, there may be one shower when the razor is still good and there's the right amount of bar left for a decent shave.

Foundations -Cover Girl - Advanced Radiance Age-Defying Makeup
rated 2 of 5
rcmann 5/30/2008 3:39:00 PM

This will teach me a lesson about not buying something just because it's on sale and comes with free "extras." First, the sunny side: I found the color (Ivory/105) to be nice and neutral for my fair skin with golden/olive undertones. It evens out my skin tone and provides medium coverage. The foundation has just enough shimmer enough to look dewy, but not so much that it's shiny. The downfall: This stuff is sticky. Like, sticky to the point that it feels tacky when I touch my face and there's even a barely audible "sticky" sound when I pull my hand away. Eww. I typically wear mineral makeup, so I expected there to be a mild annoyance factor when going back to liquid, but this is very different from other liquid foundations I've used. I applied the foundation with a damp sponge and used very little, so using too much isn't the problem. Also, this foundation actually highlights wrinkles I didn't realize I had. This may go back to the stickiness of it, because I noticed that when I smile, the expression lines stick around for a few minutes after I've stopped. The fine lines on my forehead are slightly more noticeable, as well. I certainly didn't expect to see more lines when using an "Age Defying" product. The bottom line is, if you can deal with the foundation's texture and you don't have fine lines that could be exaggerated by this, it's a winner. LIke I said, the coverage and color are good. I'll keep this around to use as a spot concealer and eyeshadow base, but not as a foundation.

Fragrances -Bobbi Brown - Beach
rated 4 of 5
rcmann 5/23/2008 12:23:00 PM

I love all the Bobbi Brown Beach products I've tried and can't say anything negative about the line, itself. However, I ran into a friend a few months ago who smelled great and I was sure it was Beach. I asked her and felt pretty silly when she said it was Coppertone... Since then, I've bought my own Coppertone and have found that Beach is so authentic that there's very little difference between the two scents. As a bonus, you can get Coppertone with higher levels of SPF (obviously), the scent lasts all day, and it's a whole lot cheaper.

Lipstick -Revlon - Creme de la Chrome - Plum Appeal
rated 4 of 5
rcmann 5/22/2008 9:02:00 AM

Well someone had to give it a good review! I've got fair skin & dark hair and like the way a dramatic lip color looks every once in a while. (Full disclosure: I also had a Trent Reznor poster in my room all through high school.) Yes, the color is dark. But, if you want a really deep, metallic red, this certainly fits the bill. I blotted a lot after putting it on and was impressed that the color and shine kept going hours after application. I'd be interested to try another color in the same line, as well. I think it's a great product, but the color isn't for everyone or for every situation. I think the color would look amazing on a person with a deeper skin tone for everyday, and I still like it for a bold look against lighter skin.

Shampoo -Aveda - Detoxifier [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
rcmann 5/19/2008 9:51:00 PM

This is a great shampoo to use a couple of times a week to combat product buildup. I've noticed that on the days I use this in the morning, my hair still feels fresh & clean when I go to bed. I much prefer this to Neutrogena Anti-Residue shampoo or other "clarifying" shampoos. And in the lineup of Aveda products, the price isn't terrible, either. I use it with Aveda's Shampure conditioner.

Treatments (Eye) -Olay - Definity Eye Illuminator
rated 4 of 5
rcmann 5/19/2008 9:42:00 PM

This is a great product for the summer or anytime you want to look fresher without wearing much makeup. Like others have said, it's not a miracle product--it just brightens up the eye area a little bit and gives a more wide-awake look. The same could probably be achieved with makeup, but I love the Definity & Regenerist lines and have been very impressed with how they've improved the quality of my skin overall. I use this with Definity Foaming Moisturizer and let both sink into my skin for a minute or so before applying makeup. I use mineral makeup and have not had the same concealer issues that others have mentioned.

Moisturizers -Olay - Definity Deep Penetrating Foaming Moisturizer
rated 5 of 5
rcmann 5/19/2008 9:22:00 PM

This is a great moisturizer that's light, comes with SPF, evens skin tone, and makes skin look luminous all day. It's not the same consistency as standard moisturizers, so it may take a few applications to figure out exactly how much your skin needs. Laying it on too thick can lead to the greasy or Teflon-y feeling that others have mentioned. Also, let it absorb for a minute or so before putting on makeup. It's well worth the hassle!

Cleansers -Olay - Regenerist Daily Regenerating Cleanser
rated 5 of 5
rcmann 5/19/2008 5:26:00 PM

This is a fantastic cleanser. I use it in the mornings, so how well it removes makeup isn't a big deal to me. The granules aren't as harsh as other exfoliators (I've used Clinique Exfoliating Scrub), but they're enough to give you a scrubbed-clean feeling. Using this along with other Olay products has made a big difference in drying out my T-zone, reducing the size of pores and incidences of acne, and evening out my complexion. The only drawback I've noticed is dry lips.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Telescopic
rated 3 of 5
rcmann 7/3/2007 9:10:00 AM

Applying this mascara is much more work than I ever really want to put into makeup, but the end results are too good to stop using it. As others have said, it takes a few tries to get the hang of the brush and even when you do, a separate lash comb may be necessary to finish the job. This mascara also doesn't dry as quickly as most others, so don't sneeze or blink too hard for a couple of minutes after applying unless you want black rings under your eyes. When it comes time to go to bed, have a good eye makeup remover on hand because you'll need it to wash this off. This actually sounds like a terrible review, but aside from putting it on and washing it off, this is a great mascara. For most of the day, you'll have long, dark, thick lashes. No one else has to know how much time it took for them to get that way.

Polishes -OPI - Tasmanian Devil Made Me Do It

What a great color! I used two coats of this and it came out a lovely orange-red. I smile every time I look at my toes now!

Polishes -OPI - Mod About You
rated 4 of 5
rcmann 6/8/2007 8:35:00 PM

I was expecting this to go on sheer, but it's not at all. It's a very light, bubble-gum pink. I'm a pale girl with pasty hands, but the polish color is warm enough that they don't look weird or corpse-like. The only complaint I've got is that--like all the newer OPI polishes--this one goes on streakier and chips more quickly than the older ones. My guess is that when they removed the questionable chemicals from their polishes recently, they went down in quality. But hey--I'll trade toxic chemicals for slightly streakier polish anytime.

Treatments -Clinique - Acne Sol. Emergency Lotion
rated 5 of 5
rcmann 4/2/2007 2:54:00 PM

clinique's acne solutions emergency lotion is amazing. it's like the mr. clean magic eraser, but for skin. (and by that i'm of course refering to fact that both products work so well, you question whether you have inadvertantly sold you soul to satan by using them.) every time i have used this when bad skin starts coming on, it is cleared up within two days. seriously. pimples never even happen.
