Hair Color -Revlon - Colorist [DISCONTINUED]

I just got finished coloring my hair in the medium golden brown shade. I wasn't really looking to color my hair, but found this for 50% off at Walgreens and figured I'd give it a shot. My natural hair color is a very dark brown (it almost looks black), and is also VERY thick, so in its natural state it doesn't have much dimension color-wise. However, the ends of my hair are just a tad lighter than the top of my head, from previous colorings, spending time in the sun, chlorine, etc. Anyway, I chose this shade because of the warmth in it. I applied it to my roots mostly, and then combed some color through my ends but didn't cover them completely (I HATE the straw-type feeling my hair gets after a color), and left the color in for about 20 minutes. The instructions say to leave the color in for 25 minutes, but I didn't leave it in for the full time because I wasn't sure how it'd turn out (I've had previous experiences where "golden" shades have turned my hair orange). To cut to the chase, I am very happy with the results! It warmed my hair up very nicely, and still looks natural. I am also extremely pleased that my hair doesn't look like it's one flat color, but has highlights and variations in it. I was a little apprehensive to use the color glaze, due to the reviews on here that said it will stain the tub, shower curtain, and hands, but I went ahead and did it anyway. I don't know who can get away with using only a quarter-size of this stuff, like it says on the box, cause I used about half the tube. I was actually pretty happy with the color glaze; it seemed to be richer and much more hydrating than other after-color conditioners I've used. After rinsing the glaze out, my hair didn't feel dry, but I still followed with Humectress conditioner (which I know you're not supposed to do, but like I said, I HATE when my hair feels like straw after coloring). My hair does not feel damaged at all, and I am really pleased with the color. The formula of the color was also quite nice, as it did not run or drip, didn't stink to high heaven, and I only needed to use one bottle of this color when I normally need to use two. Overall, this has been one of my most pleasant coloring experiences.

Styling Products -Nexxus - Designing Texxtur
psubaby 1/22/2009 10:00:00 PM
I really like this product, but I didn't feel that way at first. I recently got about 6 inches cut off of my formerly long, pretty much one length hair, and now I have a shoulder length layered 'do. I used this product once when I had long hair, and hated it. It basically made my hair stick together, and it was hard to run my fingers through. Now, with shorter hair, I love this product. It makes my hair smooth, defines my layers, and gives it hold. My one qualm about designing texxtur is that it smells weird, but that doesn't affect my rating since the smell doesn't stay in my hair at all after styling. I would buy this again, because I got it at TJMaxx for $3.99.

Moisturizers -Philosophy - Hope in a Jar - for all skin types
psubaby 1/21/2009 6:07:00 PM
Like some other reviewers, I received this as a Beauty Insider gift at Sephora. All I can say is, THANK GOODNESS it was a sample and I didn't have to pay for it. The light, whipped texture is actually nice, and it does a decent job of hydrating my skin. But I just can't get past the SMELL! For starters, I absolutely can not stand the scent of lavender, and Hope in a Jar just overwhelms me with it. It literally turns my stomach. Once, while in Nordstrom, I was walking past the Philosophy counter and got into some small talk with the sales rep. I told her I HATED the smell of Hope in a Jar, and she agreed! She said it smelled like fish. It's pretty bad if even the sales lady can't get behind the product. Not to mention, HIAJ is kinda on the expensive side. I would never buy this.

Polishes -Rimmel - Lasting Finish in Celebrity Bash

I bought this polish on a whim at Target. I'm glad I did! It's hard to find a good red nail polish. Many reds that I've tried have been either too orange-y or too candy apple-y. Great polish for winter. Easy application, and so far great staying power. Excellent value for the price; the color looks much more expensive than it actually is. This polish is one of those great little drug store gems. :)

Blush -Origins - Brush-On Color - Sheer Berry

This blush is awesome. It is vibrant and actually shows up on my skin, which is always a plus for me because most blushes I buy look great in the pan but are non-existent when I put them on. I'm on my second container of this blush and I will buy it for as long as they make it.

Concealers -BeneFit Cosmetics - Erase paste

This concealer is an absolute staple in my makeup collection. It never looks caked or dry on my skin. It is on the pricey side, but 100% worth the money! It covers and brightens the under eye area, blemishes, and any other imperfections. Every girl should have it.

Blush -BeneFit Cosmetics - thrrrob

I adore Benefit products. I'd say at least half my makeup bag is made up of Benefit cosmetics. However, I am disappointed by Thrrrob. I got it in a gift set that also came with Bad Gal lash and That Gal brightening face primer (I bought the gift set mainly because I wanted to try That Gal). The color looks so pretty in the container, but when I put it on my face, nothing showed up! I love wearing super vibrant blushes, since my skin is a little darker, and I was so excited to try this blush. This shade would probably look very pretty on girls with lighter skin. Oh well, I am still loyal to Benefit and will continue to buy their other products. Plus, I can't resist the cute packaging.

Powder -Bare Escentuals - Bare Minerals ALL
psubaby 12/7/2008 9:45:00 PM
I generally have clear skin, with very occasional breakouts.. so I don't usually need to use a lot of foundation. I bought the bare minerals foundation in medium beige at sephora because I heard such glowing reviews from my best friend.. However, this product WRECKED my skin. I don't know if I had an allergic reaction or what, but soon after I started using the foundation I broke out like mad. It took me a little while to connect the fact that I was breaking out due to the foundation, but basically the very next day after I stopped using it, my skin began to clear. Not to mention its messy and spills all over my makeup bag! Oh and one more thing, DO NOT FALL ASLEEP WEARING THIS MAKEUP! I am pretty much religious about washing my makeup off before I go to bed, but just once after a night out I fell asleep in my makeup, and woke up to a bumpy red rash on my left cheek the next morning. Not worth the hype or the money.
