maybe it's because of the recession, but I can't help but notice the on going pissing contest over who can be the biggest cheapskate when it comes to beauty and fashion. :-X it's like the opposite of the high end snob! everybody is hot for a deal from brands like wet n wild, which is strange to me because 10 yrs ago wet n wild was considered the lowest of the low. being barely a buck put a lot of people off. wnw still doesn't do it for me, but I like a deal too... just so long as the quality is there FOR REAL, not just because of popular suggestion from "recessionistas" who don't want HE anymore because they already have it all! lol the starry palette I got has no name... it's the same product pictured, except mine is in neutral colors that include a copper, dark brown, light silvery taupe, medium-dark pewtery taupe, and a peachy champagne that is a dead ringer for stila kitten.... quality wise too! this is some of the shiniest, softest, most pigmented and shimmery e/s I've ever tried. the shimmer is metallic and the texture is so soft that it's crumbly, but that's what I like! I love barely tapping my brush in it and being able to do both eyes. so even though the palette is itty bitty, it will last forever (plus it takes decades to finish up an eyeshadow). this might be a lucky fluke because how well could quality control be if it's a no-name $1.99 product? I'll have to see if my rite aid restocks them to try more. anyway, great palette and value! easily a favorite.

Eye Shadow -New York Color - IndividualEyes 941 Smokey Browns palette
rated 5 of 5
missnewname 1/23/2011 9:05:00 AM

I got this because it looked like my stila press shy palette (my most favorite palette in the world). it has a light silver, medium shimmer taupe, darker purply taupe (kind of like moth brown but less shimmer), and a sparkly black. it also contains a little pan of primer and a cream high lighter in a shimmery white color. with this palette you can make a natural look for every day or a super smokey look for going out. the pigmentation isn't the greatest in the world, worse than the better MAC formulas (frosts and veluxe pearls), but better than the worser MAC shadows (lustres and satins). but the colors are ideal for me, the primer works well, and I love the highlighter goop. it will be nice for travel. oh and it was $4.99 so it's no big deal if you lose it/hate it/break it/etc.

Cleansers -Eucerin - Gentle Hydrating Cleanser
rated 5 of 5
missnewname 1/22/2011 10:11:00 PM

at this point I am pretty much just reviewing stuff to reach 20 so I can add things that are not listed... @(!*#% I've been using this cleanser for about 5+ years off and on, but more exclusively for the past 3. it's a basic gentle gel cleanser that doesn't aggravate the skin, it actually lathers well, and it gets sunscreen and eye makeup off completely. sometimes it feels a little drying, but if I apply moisturizer at night like I'm supposed to then it's a non-issue. no scent or residue. I've repurchased it lots of times. it's very cheap ($5.99?) but it is hard to find at drug & grocery stores. my local still ulta carries it.

Eyeliner -Urban Decay - 24/7 eyeliner in Rockstar
rated 5 of 5
missnewname 1/22/2011 10:03:00 PM

I really like this plum eyeliner. it's a great alternative to boring black and it goes well with every shade of purple. the formula is just like most of the other 24/7s, creamy, pigmented, and stays on until you wash it off. buy it

Lip Gloss -MAC - Sweet Inspiration
rated 5 of 5
missnewname 1/22/2011 9:51:00 PM

I am pretty sure this color was LE... it came with the star idol collection for diana ross. I bought it sooo long ago but it's still "fresh." yay for preservatives. it's a dusty rose pinky-mauvey sip of lavender color that seems cool-ish but doesn't clash with neutral skin. it's very shiny and like all mac lipglass, sticky. my h really likes this color on me, so it's given that it would be one of my favorites. it's a nice alternative to nude, or nude-pinks, or lips but better shades. it looks especially good with pink or lavender makeup.

Moisturizers -Clinique - Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel
rated 5 of 5
missnewname 12/28/2010 4:46:00 AM

I got a deluxe sample of this stuff from sephora. I always hear chit about clinique skincare, so I was kind of scared to use it. it turns out that my skin agrees with this gel hydrator. it is a VERY light moisturizer that is perfect for night time when you don't want to feel sticky. my skin isn't dry enough for my regular night cream, but still needs something to counteract the winter tightness after I wash. it feels so cool and smooth and sinks into skin with no icky residue. I did not experience any comedogenic side effects. the ingredients are simple but effective with even caffeine to decrease puffiness. ^_^

Eyes -MAC - Dirty Greasepaint stick
rated 3 of 5
missnewname 12/28/2010 4:31:00 AM

the shimmery blackened taupe makes a very nice eyeliner. it's a great alternative to dull black. as a cream eyeshadow it looks well, kind of like the product name, dirty and greasy and too dark. you can use it as a base and apply eyeshadow over it, but my lids are on the oily side and it ends up creasing. I like that there is a hidden sharpener at the other end so that you can keep it sharp for eyeliner, which is the best purpose for this product IMHO. I prefer MUFE aquacreams for a dark, crease proof/smear proof/cry proof base.

Eye Shadow -Stila - slate
rated 5 of 5
missnewname 12/28/2010 4:16:00 AM

this is the only eyeshadow I have ever used up... it was in a palette, but still. it's a shimmery, medium-dark, cool, silvery-brown-taupe. simple, but ideal for so many looks. it has the same super soft and pigmented texture that all stila eyeshadows have. I have a ridiculous amount of taupe eyeshadows, but this was probably my favorite and the bastards discontinued it! I purchased another palette containing this color, but was unable to find it separately. :-( the closest match is probably UD stray dog, but that one is slightly browner. sniffle.

Blush -MAC - Briar Rose (Venomous VIllains)
rated 5 of 5
missnewname 10/8/2010 9:39:00 PM

I wasn't going to buy anything other than a lipgloss from this collection, but this is one of the few LE things I have bought lately for the actual color rather than the hype (I do not like Malificent as much as the Evil Queen from SW. even Cruella has more going on for her). it is a slightly shimmery cool purple toned mauvey pink. I can't do very cool tones on my mouth, but my cheeks love them! it gives a nice flush like I have healthy bloodflow on my usually anemic looking pale skin. it looks really good with the dark pink Evil Queen lipgloss, so if you get one I recommend you get the other.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Hot House (Venomous Villains)
rated 4 of 5
missnewname 10/8/2010 9:24:00 PM

my husband thinks I look like the evil queen, so I thought this would suit me. :-P the packaging is pretty neat. it has a little picture of the evil queen looking sinister and holding the box that is supposed to contain snow white's heart. it shows up the same as it looks in the tube. it is a deep raspberry pink with a purple sheen. it is a bit too cool toned for me because of the purple sheen, and looks kind of funny and bright alone, but with a warm coral lip liner (I have MAC "lure") it looks flattering. it sounds like a horrible clash of colors, but I swear it mixes well. I like it, but would not buy it again because it does not look so hot alone. however, it looks REALLY nice and winter-ready with "briar rose" blush!

Eye Shadow -MAC - Bloodline Pigment
rated 4 of 5
missnewname 10/1/2010 7:01:00 AM

It's a nice almost matte blackened taupey color with a faint shimmer. nothing special. not "moth brown in pigment form" or any other nonsense you may have read. but I like it because I wear taupe whenever I wear make up, and my favorite Slayer song bears the same name, "Bloodline." this makes a great liner and crease color. I would not purchase again because I got a full size jar, and I have Stila "espresso," which is pretty much the same color on me. so buy it if you lack a nice alternative to black, otherwise skip it. the LE collection theme is so cute though. >^..^<

Mascara -Prestige - My Biggest Lashes
rated 5 of 5
missnewname 9/11/2010 6:35:00 AM

I've never really loved a drugstore mascara before. I've used them, but was never impressed. The only mascara I liked period was Fresh Supernova. Until I tried this. The big barbie pink tube was very eye catching, and I only purchase cosmetics from companies that don't do animal testing, sooo this $6 tube by Prestige fit the bill. The wand is nice and huge and the formula leaves lashes feeling SOFT! Just like my Fresh Supernova! This mascara is perfect for me and very cheap. So now I can join the "I hate high end mascara snobs" club. Not really... I have tons of other high end samples to try :-X

Lipstick -MAC - Aristo-cat
rated 5 of 5
missnewname 9/11/2010 6:24:00 AM

I'm surprised that this doesn't have suuuuper great reviews. It reminds me of the LE lipsticks from past collections, like Madame B. I guess MUA has gone all conservative. Anyway, Aristo-cat is a mauvey purplish rosy complex color with golden frost. It looks Barbie-pink in the tube, but it is surprisingly neutral and pretty on. As another reviewer mentioned, the texture is creamy for a frost color. I am pale with neutral undertones, I guess leaning toward yellow if I had to pick a shade, but I am sure this would look awesome on cool toned people too.

Mascara -Fresh - Supernova
rated 5 of 5
missnewname 10/24/2009 2:37:00 AM

for me, no other mascara will do. I don't wear mascara every day, but when I do I only use this or fresh firebird. my lash type is thick but I wish I had more length. this mascara gives thickness and beautiful length. the brush is large but not clumsy and the formula is not too thick, not too thin, and leaves my lashes super soft and therefore not brittle. it gives me the 'natural looking falsies' type of look. it is also non irritating to my contacts. the packaging resembles a wizard's wand! so pretty. the price of the big tube is too high, but sephora sells a mini version that comes with firebird mascara for about $10. I can never finish a full tube of mascara so this is perfect for me and not much more expensive than drugstore.
