Eye Shadow -Bare Escentuals - Rebirth
rated 4 of 5
mellody43 8/22/2008 12:35:00 PM

A special edition for "BEAUTY Cares/BE Cares". This glimmer is a lovely shimmery steely blue. It is lovely as a shadow (careful, do not overapply or you may look a bit clownish for daytime - go a bit more crazy for evening though, and watch out for fallout) -- but is difficult to use as a liner. I mixed a bit with lining gel and it does not apply evenly - perhaps it is a bit too chunky. If you really like blues, this is a nice one though hard to find as it was LE.

The only nailpolish I have ever repurchased. BEST color for my toes, ever. Looks sophisticated. No shimmer/glitter. Love love love it.

Eye Shadow -Clinique - quick eyes cream shadow in truffle
rated 3 of 5
mellody43 5/13/2008 6:48:00 PM

I absolutely adored this color - in the tube. However, on my eyes, whether applied with fingers & layered, or with a synthetic brush, it had barely any color payoff. Needed something over it to give me a pretty taupey eye. However, I can do the same thing with a more ordinary base product plus a product like BB's cream shadow in Galaxy + Shu ME Gray 944, Moth Brown, etc. Shame. So pretty in the tube. This went back to the Clinique counter.

Eyeliner -Clinique - CreamShapers Duo in Sable/Mink
rated 5 of 5
mellody43 5/13/2008 6:41:00 PM

I think the previous reviewer has it backwards -- the Sable is the silvery/purpley taupe color and Mink is the deep brown shade. These are GORGEOUS, easy to apply, smudge-able -- just beautiful. FYI the Sable color is like MAC Moth Brown in an eyeliner - more intense since the consistency is creamy but pretty darned close!

Tinted Moisturizer -Smashbox - Sheer Focus Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15
rated 4 of 5

I got a sample of Fair at Nordsdtrom (full tube is $30 for 1.7 oz). (For reference, I usually wear BB's TM in Light.) This is a good color match for me. Goes on very smoothly, light coverage (more than BB). By later in the day, I do not have any shine ("glow"?) like I do with BB. This layered easily with a bit of minerals over it too. I will consider buying this as a cheaper alternative to BB. Sadly, though the sunscreen is stable, it does not offer good UVA protection. ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: 7.0% Octinoxate (2-Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate), 2.9% Zinc Oxide. OTHER INGREDIENTS: Water (Aqua), Phenyl Trimethicone, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Butylene Glycol, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Acrylates Copolymer, Caprylyl Glycol, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/ Sodium Acryloyldimethyltaurate Copolymer, Polysorbate 60, Squalane, Honey (Mel), Pectin, Lecithin, C20-22 Alcohols, C20-22 Alkyl Phosphate, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG 100 Stearate, Polysilicone-11, Phenoxyethanol, Dimethicone, Oligopeptide-10, Silica, Betaine, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Ethoxydiglycol, Xanthan Gum, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Propylene Glycol Stearate, Triethanolamine, Triethoxy Caprylylsilane, Polysorbate 20, Sorbitan Laurate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol Laurate, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Tetrasodium EDTA. Powder -MAC - Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Light Medium [DISCONTINUED]
rated 3 of 5

Good color/tone, nice texture, but honestly, I could not tell that this did anything at all on my skin except perhaps make me a bit shiny later in the day on my cheeks. Returned it.

Mascara -Prestige - Volume Mousse
rated 1 of 5

Supposed to be buildable volume -- but I didn't get any after two coats. If you want a very natural looking mascara, this would be fine, but not if you want to build your lashes in length or volume.

This looked pretty good, didn't clump, but unfortunately something in it irritated my eyes.

Lipstick -Wet 'n' Wild - Wild Shine Lip Lacquer in Rapture
rated 2 of 5
mellody43 1/28/2008 12:43:00 AM

Love the feeling - sort of a rich balm, no scent, no taste, stays soft and matte on my lips. But this color went from a rich bright reddish berry to a weird fuchsia on my lips, sadly. So I might try another color, but this one was not for me. Cheap and worth a look though if you can get a color to work for you!

Lip Gloss -Bobbi Brown - Ruby
rated 5 of 5
mellody43 1/21/2008 11:59:00 AM

WHYYYYY was this LE? I found it at the CCO and ADORE it. I was already a fan of BB glosses, even though they are pricey and have a terrible brush. They look fantastic on, endure well, and are small enough to put in your change purse if you're just carrying a little wallet around! Ruby is a beautiful red gloss - not too blue, though definitely not a warm red -- with no shimmer. Not to be confused with Ruby Shimmer. I have a very hard time finding reddish lip colors that work on me. This is just beautiful. WHY BOBBI WHY?

Eyeliner -MAC - Technakohl in Earthline
rated 4 of 5
mellody43 1/18/2008 12:52:00 AM

Though I feel it's a bit pricey. I do REALLY love the color of this automatic eyeliner. It is a neutral/cool taupey stone color. Not matte - sort of a satin finish so it has some dimension. Works so nicely for neutral day eyes. Will rebuy if I cannot find a cheaper/longlasting duplicate. =)

Eye Primer -Bare Escentuals - bareVitamins Prime Time Eyelid Primer
rated 4 of 5
mellody43 1/10/2008 2:12:00 PM

I have been using this for the last 4 days. So far, I am quite impressed. It really stays matte and holds shadows on quite nicely for longer than my other eye basics (MAC Bare Canvas and MAC Bare Study). Seems to work equally well with pressed eyeshadows as with loose eyeshadows. Keeps the color truer all day as well. When I apply it, it evens out my eyelid texture and skintone without adding color. I apply then let it set for about a minute, then apply eyeliner/eyeshadow. I used UDPP years ago and was not impressed. I can't really compare to this product since I don't own it now to do an eye to eye test! However, you don't get much product with the BE Prime Time. I hopefully will swap for the UDPP and be able to truly test them together.

Gels/Soaps -Suave - Naturals Body Wash - Sweet Pea & Violet
rated 5 of 5
mellody43 1/8/2008 5:34:00 PM

Smells lovely and feminine, but not overpowering. Lathers beautifully, does not dry out my skin at all. If you need a lot of extra moisture this is probably not for you, but if you want to be clean for cheap and still feel a bit pampered, try it!

Eyeliner -MAC - Indigo
rated 2 of 5
mellody43 1/6/2008 1:23:00 PM

Gorgeous color. Crappy staying power. I tried this over Bare Canvas, Bare Study, then over a powder base with a bit of a dark blue Shu shadow over it. Still was gone after a normal working day. I'll stick with gel liners (BB or MAC) or Clinique's Cream Shapers.

Tinted Moisturizer -Vincent Longo - Light Canvas Tinted Moisturizer
rated 2 of 5
mellody43 11/29/2007 1:10:00 PM

First product I purchased did not dispense through the pump after the first use. I exchanged it at Sephora for a new one thinking it was just a faulty pump - it wasn't. The second one is doing the exact same thing. For $38, VL needs to improve the packaging. I wrote to VL CS via email over a week ago about how to get this product to dispense properly and have not gotten a response. I just forwarded the email again. As for the product -- I wanted an oil-free, silicone-free product that isn't heavy. This product is not moisturizing, IMO, and it is not the easiest to apply (probably the lack of silicones). I find it more of a mousse-like foundation. I like how it looks initially -- not dewy, but not overly matte -- but by later in the day, I feel a bit slippy/greasy. My skin is not oily and in fact dries out easily. I have tried using a bit of moisturizer under this in case some ingredient is actually drying my skin out/causing overproduction of oil but it doesn't seem to help this late-in-day greasiness. I'm fair-skinned and #1 is an okay match for me. It's SLIGHTLY more pink in tone than other TMs I've tried but works okay. I am considering going back to my Bobbi Brown TM (in the black tube) even though it has silicones. I will not purchase the VL LCTM again and in fact might return this 2nd tube. UPDATED: I did return it. Back to BB!
