Cleansers -Clinique - Liquid Facial Soap - Oily skin
rated 4 of 5

After a friend raved about Clinique's skincare line, I decided to give it a shot, encouraged by my mom's patronage some years ago. I disliked the strong smell of the cleanser at first. It smelled really harsh and alcoholic, which startled me at first. Then, I got used to the smell, or held my breath, as I washed my face. The first thing I noticed was that my skin didn't feel tight after I stepped out of the shower. A huge plus. However, I wouldn't recommend using the cleanser on its own since your face would feel dry and uncomfortable after a while. Update: I'm on my second bottle and truly, this is my favorite cleanser of all time. The 3-step routine has worked wonders for me. Friends have been complimenting on how clear my skin looks and any acne disappears within days. Thank you, Clinique.

Conditioner -L'Oreal - Everpure smooth conditioner

There isn't much I can say that's different from my review of the shampoo. I'm in love with how earthy and fresh my hair smells and how soft and untangled it feels. L'Oreal finally did something right with their product line.

Shampoo -L'Oreal - EverPure Sulfate-free Color Care Shampoo
rated 5 of 5

I'm someone who has a sensitive scalp and loves dyeing my hair so for a few years and some months before I found this shampoo, my scalp and hair suffered a lot from all the brands I've tried. When I first saw this in a drugstore, I was immediately sold because, hey, it's L'Oreal, right? I bought the shampoo a day after I had my roots recolored and the shampoo I was using before (one of the dandruff-fighting ones) had stripped my color pretty badly so I knew I had to get this L'Oreal one fast. When I first smelled the shampoo, I liked it instantly. I'm a huge sucker for earthy, herbal scents and it wasn't overpowering like some scents I've sniffed. After the first wash, I immediately knew this was THE shampoo for me. My scalp barely itched (read: never) and my hair didn't tangle up at all. It's been a couple of weeks now and the shampoo has not let me down at all even though I'm currently suffering from hormone-caused oily scalp. Hardly an itch and it doesn't feel greasy. Will definitely continue to buy this.

Mascara -Clinique - High Impact Mascara
rated 5 of 5

I received a mini tester tube of this mascara because I purchased the brand's three-step skincare system. I'm not really a mascara user but since I had it, I figured that I could give it a shot. It really does live up to its name because a couple of coats on my upper lashes really lengthened them, as it did with my lower ones. The lasting power is really good too with barely any smudging. My eyes started tearing up one day and I panicked a little because I expected the mascara to run and smear all over. Thankfully, it didn't. Despite how good it was to me though, I doubt I would purchase a fullsize version because I'm not a frequent mascara user. However, if I were to purchase one, I would definitely consider this.

Powder -Chanel - Vitalumiere Eclat de Chanel Compact Makeup
rated 4 of 5

The foundation was pricier than I expected but since it's Chanel, I decided to overlook that factor. I was introduced to this product through a family friend who worked at a Chanel counter. I had been looking for foundation for a while and grew tired of the mineral makeup way so I tried my luck with this. I received the small tester version of the foundation and tried it out for over a few months (at least four, if I'm not mistaken). The coverage is pretty good. Covers up my pores but unfortunately doesn't do much for scars and dark spots, which was fine with me. I was however, impressed by its lasting power. I'm usually particular with how I blot at my face with tissue (sweat) or blotting paper (oil) yet despite dabbing at my face often, the foundation doesn't get wiped away much. The finish is matte and velvety to the touch, which I love. I've accidentally scratched my face a few times and the color still remained intact. I'm happy with this find although I wish it wasn't so expensive. But since I don't often use my makeup, I think the fullsize will last me for quite sometime.

Fragrances -Gucci - Envy ME
rated 1 of 5

This scent gave me a headache. I'm unsure as to why I liked it in the first place but a couple of years down the road, I found myself hating it. It smells really strong to me, almost nausea-inducing and has that suffocating powdery feel to it. Of course, it is just me because my friend and grandma love this fragrance to bits but I just couldn't like it no matter how much I've tried.

Fragrances -Stella McCartney - Stella- Eau de Parfum
rated 5 of 5

I discovered this scent while browsing around a perfume store, looking for a new fragrance of course, and stumbled across this. Tested it out and found that I quite liked it. Finally bought the perfume a while back. The perfume starts off strong, that I agree, and that strength can be compared to notes in Gucci's Envy Me (which I didn't like) but it quickly tapers off to this sweet rose scent that isn't too overpowering and it lasts for hours. Seriously. I sprayed it on one of my jackets and my entire closet smells of it up till now. HG status, no doubt.

Blush -Everyday Minerals - Deep Wine

RIS. The girl I swapped with said that this blush made her look like she had bruised cheeks. Lol. For me, it's the perfect brown-purple shade. At least I think so because no one's said anything negative thing about it. Then again, with my skintone, I think I could get away with anything! Also, like most of EDM's dark matte blushes, you need to apply with a light hand if you're fair. This would work great for contouring.

Shampoo -Clairol - Herbal Essences for Dry/Damaged /Color Treated Hair
rated 1 of 5
mayanii 10/6/2008 7:13:00 AM

Would I buy this product again? NO. I don't know if it's just me but Herbal Essences dries out my hair. As if it needed more split ends, right? It does nothing for my hair colour, seriously. L'Oreal made my hair colour vibrant and lovely but HE destroyed it. NEVER AGAIN.

Blush -Everyday Minerals - Swimming Pool
rated 5 of 5

Swatched on my arm, SP looks almost purplish but on my cheeks, it's like a pink-red. Oh well, I'm slightly biased towards matte blushes so I'll just say that if you liked matte blushes, give this a try. It seems like a universal shade to me.

Blush -Everyday Minerals - Natural Blush
rated 4 of 5
mayanii 9/16/2008 5:40:00 PM

RIS again. I really wanted to love this colour but I only like it. Why? First of all, it was really too shimmery. I liked Siesta and that had shimmer but Natural was almost overkill. Secondly, it was too light. Swatched on my arm, it looked like a very light lavender colour but on my cheeks, it's anything but. Wish EDM had made something slightly more coral and matte for a Natural blush.

Blush -Everyday Minerals - Sunday Brunch
rated 5 of 5
mayanii 9/16/2008 5:37:00 PM

This is definitely one of EDM's highly pigmented blushes. Swatched this on my arm and then wiped it down once with a tissue and it was still there! Though instead of red, it was slightly orange. It must be applied with a light hand though or you might end up looking like a scary porcelain doll (especially fair folks).

Blush -Everyday Minerals - Siesta [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5

RIS a month ago. I don't like shimmers but I do love peachy colours and this was a natural fave! My only gripe for this is that it doesn't last long for me. Too bad I only had a sample and EDM d/ced it because I would love to get a full size.

Blush -NARS - Torrid
rated 5 of 5
mayanii 9/16/2008 5:31:00 PM

This is one of my HE blushes... but I love it! Torrid is very pigmented; one must carefully apply with a light hand and even with my skintone (medium w/ yellow undertones), it looks pretty red, which I love! It's a lovely peach-coral with shimmer (I typically don't like shimmers but this one's barely noticeable). I think it's a universal shade but it will look better for darker skintones.

Primer/ Corrector -Fyrinnae - Fyrinnae Rice Powder Primer
rated 5 of 5
mayanii 8/28/2008 2:38:00 PM

I actually forgot that this was supposed to control oil and stuff so I didn't really pay attention to that part. I'll review this as a primer. I don't really use primers but this is my favorite. I used to use EDM's Peach concealer all over my face to cover my scars and stuff on its own. No primer or anything. Then when I blot or wipe away sweat, it will fade. Boo. So for the first time, I buffed this primer in and used my EDM over it. When I blotted like six hours later, there was barely anything on the tissue paper. Unlike previous times when the concealer would be wiped off, this time the tissue was clean! I was sold immediately. The only downside? It doesn't come with a sifter in the sample jar so you have to be careful with how much you tap onto the lid. Btw, I love that Fyrinnae gives out free eyeshadow samples along with orders. Even if I don't use them. =) EDIT: Wore this a couple more times, paying attention to the oil control factor. This really does work! Okay, I have combination skin and my T-zone gets super oily sometimes when I stress out. This stuff is like magic, seriously. I had to blot ONCE and the oil never came back. Granted, there was still a bit of shine but that didn't bother me at all! Love, love, love this stuff.
