Eye Shadow -Unlisted Brand - Shany eye shadow palette
lotusfairy 5/8/2013 7:36:00 PM
I had an Amazon gift card and decided to use it on this. I decided to try the neutral eye palette and received it within three days which is incredibly fast. It was wrapped with multiple layers of bubble wrap and comes in a sleek looking black case that has a decent sized mirror and two eyeshadow applicators. The eyeshadows themselves are on the small side, but are richly pigmented and have good staying power (I tried them without an eye primer). Some of the colors go on the lid looking very similar like some of the pinks and beiges but it is not a big deal breaker for me. The black was is a bit hard to use because it was the only shadow in the palette that happened to shatter and I had to carefully apply it to my eyelids with a stiffer eyeliner pencil to keep it from falling on my cheeks. There are a mixture of matte and shimmer shadows in the palette and they were easy to blend. Overall I am very happy that I decided to give this palette a chance. I now want to try the brighter shades next.

Styling Products -L'Oreal - EverStyle Smooth and Shine Creme
lotusfairy 5/5/2013 4:28:00 PM
I have yet to use this as a blow-dry cream but I love this as a frizz reducer and smoothing agent. It really helps to keep down frizz and flyaways for me without feeling greasy or heavy. It has a honeyed vanilla smell and agree that it is basically the same scent as the Evercreme line which I really like too. My hair feels soft and doesn't look dull. I have never tried the Nectar Thermique which some say this is a dupe of, so I can't compare.

Cleansers -Alba Botanica - Hawaianna 3-in-1 Towelettes
lotusfairy 5/5/2013 12:16:00 AM
I thought these were great. It has a light tropical-like scent and doesn't irritate my skin. I thought it did a good job of removing foundation and leaving the skin soft. The only complaint I have is that it cannot be used on or near the eyes which is a bummer since I wear eye makeup occasionally and like to use cleansing towelettes to remove stubborn eyeliner and such. Other than that, these have the right amount of moisture for me and don't break me out. The towelettes themselves are not overly drenched. They have a good amount of product in them. My face does appear slightly brighter when I use them so I guess the enzymes do an adequate job. What I do notice is that my face feels more even. There are no rough patches around my nose and mouth so that's a plus. Overall, I would buy these again.

Styling Products -TRESemme - Curl Care Flawless Curls Curl Enhancing Mousse
lotusfairy 5/4/2013 7:57:00 PM
Application is definitely key here. Some things I have noticed when using this: You have to use on wet hair, you have to have a base of either a styling cream or hair oil to counteract the drying effect since this does contain alcohol, and you don't need to use a lot. A golf ball sized amount is perfect for even my thick 3b curly hair. I think it smells lovely and seems to do a great job of boosting my curl pattern. My hair is left soft and defined which is hard to do. The shine was very good and had some nice compliments from strangers. My hair maintained its volume without feeling sticky or weighed down. Walmart had a good sale on this and I was able to get a big can. I think it provides decent hold. There was some crunchiness in some areas but nothing that can't be scrunched out with a bit of water. As for frizz reduction, it was ok. I noticed it took care of frizz initially but then as the day wore on, I had some halo frizz. A little hairspray took care of that. Overall, I think this was average. I have tried better mousses from other brands, but I do like this for lazy days.

Skincare - Body -Johnson & Johnson - Moisturizing Baby Wash
lotusfairy 5/4/2013 2:57:00 AM
I was browsing the baby section of Walmart and stumbled upon this. The head to toe wash was decent but dried out my dd's eczema prone skin and made the skin on my arms and legs feel dry for some reason. The moisturizing baby wash is very gentle, incredibly moisturizing without leaving a residue on the skin, and has a subtle baby powder scent. I love the pearlescent pink color and I was able to get a big pump size bottle for less than five bucks which is a steal. The scent does not linger which I am fine with. Makes my dd's skin feel soft and doesn't aggravate her eczema. I use this occasionally as well and love that it doesn't cause any irritations. Will definitely repurchase.

Lipstick -Wet 'n' Wild - Mega Shield Lolly Popstar
lotusfairy 5/1/2013 11:37:00 PM
This was an impulse buy and regrettable purchase. The color did not work for me. It is a frosty hot pink with odd undertones (Coral?) on my lips. Too garish to pass off at my age. The formulation was a bit off as well. It didn't feel smooth or creamy like the other colors I own. I think I'll have to mix with other shades I own just to make it look decent. Luckily this was inexpensive so I don't feel too bad. I would not buy again.

Misc Beauty Tools -Tweezerman - Foot Rasp
lotusfairy 5/1/2013 3:10:00 AM
I lost a lot of my baby weight walking. Unfortunately it has done a number on my feet. I'll spare you the details but I was ashamed to visit a nail shop and have been trying to do my own nails with moderate success. I love Mr. Pedi, but it breeds a lot of bacteria sitting in the shower even though I made sure to sterilize after every shower and let it air-dry on my bathroom rack. The Tweezerman is more sturdy to use and is sharp so be careful not to be too zealous initially. I was able to get a smoother appearance on my feet in less time which is amazing. I follow with any of my favorite foot balms or creams and my feet look great. I try to do it once or twice a week if I can. I agree that you should change the blade every couple of months, but this is simple to keep clean. Love it! I bought mine at CVS for six dollars which is not too bad. Pricier than my Mr.Pedi but gives faster results.

Hair -L'Oreal - Power Moisture Moisture Rush Mask
lotusfairy 5/1/2013 2:44:00 AM
I saw this on sale at CVS and had to try it. It has a thick custard like consistency and has a floral/green apple smell that I really like though it is strong. I have to say that I like this a tad more than the Damage-Erasing Balm. The Damage-Erasing Balm softens and hydrates too, but I can't use too much or my hair gets too weighed down and fluffy. I can feel free to slather more of the moisture rush mask on my thirsty hair without much problems. It gives good slip, rinses clean, and seems to hydrate well. My curls perked up a bit without much frizz. For reference, I have 3b curly hair that is currently highlighted.

Conditioner -Unlisted Brand - Darcy's Botanicals Pumpkin Seed Curl Moisturizing Conditioner
lotusfairy 4/26/2013 5:36:00 PM
I am surprised that this has no reviews. I am completely blown away by this conditioner! It gives amazing slip without any cones, is cruelty free, and vegan. It really does an excellent job of moisturizing my hair without feeling greasy or heavy. This has hydrolyzed oat protein, so those protein sensitive might want to avoid this. It has a vanilla buttercream scent that actually lingers in my hair. I let it sit in my hair for the recommended 15-20 minutes, rinse, and let my hair air-dry. I am left with shiny, frizz-free curls with good definition. I really love this and I have tried many conditioners over the years. It definitely rivals my beloved Dermorganic masque. I have not tried this as a leave-in yet but will update on my experience soon.

Other -Unlisted Brand - Vicks Vapor Rub
lotusfairy 4/25/2013 2:32:00 AM
This brings back many memories of my grandmother slathering vapor rub on my chest and feet when I was younger every time I had a cold. I still keep a tub of this in my bathroom even though my husband can't stand the smell of it when I use it. I now buy my dd the baby version which has a milder smell and find myself reaching for that more than the regular Vicks vapor rub. It helps with congestion temporarily for me and like other reviewers have noted, you can use it around your nose to keep away offending odors and on your toes to keep your nail beds healthy. I have not used it on bug bites, pimples, or bruises so I can't say how well it works for those problems but I will test it out sometime.

Toners -Unlisted Brand - Rosewater
lotusfairy 4/22/2013 10:48:00 PM
I usually use a couple of drops of rosewater when doing my bi-weekly Aztec cleansing mask. It keeps my face, which is oily and sensitive, from becoming too red after I rinse the mask off and helps a bit when the smell of the vinegar. It also balances the oiliness I get in the summer. Rosewater alone makes an excellent toning mist when my skin is a bit irritated or congested. It doesn't break me out or leave any residue. I sometimes use it my hair or skin as a light fragrance though it is only temporary. I never used it in my cooking, but will have to try that one day.

Polishes -Wet 'n' Wild - Megalast "Through the Grapevine" #208
lotusfairy 4/20/2013 12:57:00 AM
I thought this was ok. I agree that it leans on more of a berry purple or a fuscia/purple which I wasn't expecting. It still is a nice, flattering color but disappointing. I used it on my toes and had minimal chipping after a week and a half. On hands, I had almost five days of wear without much chipping which is pretty good. I think the megalast nail polishes are very good for being cheap and will continue to try other colors.

Shampoo -Clairol - Herbal Essences Shine Collection Shampoo
lotusfairy 4/20/2013 12:24:00 AM
I am happy to see this back on store shelves as well. While this certainly is not the most moisturizing shampoo for me, it does clean well without drying my hair and it has some light smoothing properties. My hair was not tangled or dull after air drying and it smelled great. Works well with other Herbal Essences conditioners or the matching shine collection conditioners. I bought the one with chamomile (Yellow bottle) but I think it is just as good as the one with rosehips (pink bottle).

Lip Treatments -Burt's Bees - Pink Grapefruit Refreshing Lip Balm
lotusfairy 4/17/2013 1:47:00 AM
While the original version is a tad more moisturizing for me, I love the smell of this one. It is strong, but I think it smells wonderful. It reminds me of the Pink body spray from The Gap. My lips feel smooth and supple and it isn't too waxy feeling. I do agree this would be perfect to use in the summer and would make a great addition to my beach bag. I would buy again.

Treatments -L'Oreal - Total Repair 5 Damage Erasing Balm
lotusfairy 4/16/2013 4:55:00 AM
I had a coupon for this so I decided to buy it as I really like the matching regular conditioner from the line. It has a thick, custard-like consistency and smells wonderful to my nose. I used too much initially and had soft, but static like hair. I lessened the amount to a quarter sized amount and my hair was much happier. It looked shiny, felt soft, had less frizz, and the scent lingered lightly which was nice. Since my hair is highlighted, I need all the moisture and smoothing properties I can get and this satisfied me enough to buy a jar again. Now I want to try the treatment in the blue jar next to see how it compares. If you have dry, color-treated hair, give this a whirl.
