Misc Beauty Tools -Le Metier de Beaute - eyelash curler

This curler is fantastic. I previously used the shiseido curler but it often pinched. This curler has been perfect from the start. I like the "springy-er" feeling from this pad though some may object to it. For me, it feels more gentle and it gives great curl every time. UPDATE: I'm changing my five to a two. I have barely used this for a month & the pad got sliced by the top of the curler & I have lost quite a few eyelashes in the process. YIKES. Am currently trying to reach customer service regarding this issue. UPDATE #2: I did briefly swap the pad for an extra shiseido one I happened to have on hand. That did work better, although not great. I have returned the curler & will try the shu one everyone raves about.

Eye Shadow -Chanel - Illusion D'Ombre - Illusoire

First a couple of issues: this product is embarrassingly expensive. And without a primer, it did not last an entire work day. I believe my eyeballs may be particularly difficult to keep product on, but for the price, one expects a lot. However, with primer I have no issues with fading or loss of product. And I love this. The color is enchanting - a mostly purple minky grey taupe. It's so versatile. You can easily wear to work (& I dress conservatively) or out for an evening. I bought it because I was looking for something fast and fabulous. This is just that. It hardly takes any time to put on and the color is wonderful. The brush it comes with is also great though I don't use it every time.

Eye Shadow -Chanel - Prélude Quadra Eyeshadow

Other reviews have been very accurate and thorough in describing the color & versatility of this eyeshadow quad. It is wonderful. You could put this on in a dimly lit room & walk out looking great. The colors are both simple and complex. They can be applied with a lovely sheerness or more heavily without looking dreadful. If there were ever a foolproof eyeshadow, this is it. Worth the investment. It's something you'll use every week.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast Fusion

I had a difficult time with this mascara. For one, the black color seemed more like a dark charcoal right out of the tube. I am someone who really wants (and needs!) a deep, dark, true black. I also didn't find the wear to be terribly great (a bit of flaking & clumping), but it's possible I am someone who needs waterproof mascara & I only tried the regular formula of this mascara. I know plenty of women who find this mascara perfectly lovely, it just didn't do the trick for me.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous Million Lashes - waterproof
rated 4 of 5

I am incredibly impressed with this mascara. The brush cleaning 'system' seems to do a fairly decent job of eliminating the need to wipe down the wand prior to application. Granted, a few chunks do slip past every now and again, but for the most part (and we're talking 85 - 95% of the time), you won't find yourself having much of an issue. I have worn this mascara from about 7am until 10pm without seeing flaking, which is impressive (and why I choose the waterproof formula over the regular one). While I have very little experience with higher end mascaras, I do believe this is a fantastic mascara. When one considers the need to replace every three months, this is certainly a great price for a great product.

Eye Shadow -NARS - Grand Palais
rated 5 of 5

I bought this assuming I would return it and have instead come to rely on it as a staple during my week! I probably wear it twice a week, on average. It's just such a lovely, slightly unexpected, neutral eye. I do wear both together - blended - but I think that many women could wear them singly as well. I'm just not quite that brave to wear the rose by itself on my eye. My skin tone is pale, cool-toned, and I have brown hair & hazel eyes. Like other Nars shadows I've used, this can go on very sheerly (and I would recommend starting out sheer & building up) or much deeper. The rose side can also double as a blush so this compact makes for fantastic travel makeup if you like to travel more lightly.

Eye Shadow -NARS - Bali
rated 5 of 5

This shadow is a beautiful, multi-use product. It can go on sheer or heavier in the eye area so it's easy to use all over the eye or as a deeper shadow color in the crease. I also use this in my eyebrows & it is the best product I have tried in terms of color & ease of use. I feel fine about splurging on such a nice shadow since it is definitely a wardrobe staple & will probably last a long time. The formula of the shadow is gorgeous - silky, blend-able, and long-lasting. For context, other shadows I've used are: Revlon, Mac, and Chanel. I have oilier eyelids, so I do wear this with a base which I believe leads to the longevity of the product.

Pressed Powders -MAC - Mineralize Skinfinish Natural - Medium
rated 5 of 5

Love this product. The pigmentation is stellar & once applied, it never looks 'flat.' There are little traces of illuminating particles in the powder - not to be confused with glitter! This powder really does a wonderful job with giving your skin a healthy, dewy finish while still taking out shine. I mostly use this powder instead of a tinted moisturizer when I feel like I don't need the extra coverage or I just want my skin to 'breathe' a bit more. If your skin is noticeably dry, of course the powder is going to be a bit more obvious. But, on hydrated skin this powder is wonderful & you will feel polished & lovely as you wear it.

Eye Shadow -Revlon - Wet/Dry Shadow in "In The Buff" (quad)
rated 3 of 5
kbabyd 6/1/2011 5:31:00 PM

These shadows are not matte - a couple of them have the slightest shimmer. They are all very neutral. Although I will wear these, I find the pigmentation to be sub-par as they go on extremely pale & do not build well. I was surprised at how crumbly the shadows were when using a couple of different brushes to pick up the product. There was also a lot of fallout when applying - the most I've ever experienced, actually. I typically use MAC eyeshadow but was looking for something cheap & good. By comparison, the texture of these is chalkier. On the upside, on my pale skin this quad looks extremely understated which is nice for a regular work day or any time you want nearly invisible eye makeup.
