Makeup geeks innocent is one of the prettiest lipsticks I have seen. It is an absolutely beautiful cross between a light pink and peach color. The shade looks amazing with MAC nymphette lipgloss. I still don't enjoy the formula of this lipsticks, they are to slippery and too glossy in my opinion. The remind me of a NYX black label lipstick, only I like Nyx lipsticks better. They don't last great on the lips and they have a horrible plastic taste and smell. If I hadn't liked this color I would have only given it a 2 in rating. Despite all that I dislike about these lipsticks, this color will probably get lots of use because I don't own anything like it. However, I wont be buying anymore Makeup geek lipsticks.
Makeup Geek's Adorable was yet another disappointment for me. Whilst the color in the tube is a beautiful yellow toned pink the shade stains your lips horribly. Some might say that it's nice to have a lip stain once your color wears off but on my lips it looks like I've been eating a red frozen coke. It's not an attractive look on a 27 year old. I've said it before and I will say it again, I absolutely hate the plastic smell and taste of these lipsticks. I don't think the formula is very long lasting on the lips and I find that they really slip around. I personally don't understand their choice in claiming that these are anything like MAC. There is nothing that I can find to compare them, other then maybe some similar colors. It's not a great way to market a new line of lipsticks and considering they share no similarity in the performance or formula, it's also a dangerous way to marked them. After reading their website and seeing each and every lipstick compared to MAC, when you receive them you can't help but try and find the comparison. The problem is.. there isn't any! Not only does it leave the consumer disappointed it makes the company look as if it is trying to get sales of the name of a high end brand and personally I don't like that.
I hate to be a hater, but I honestly don't have a lot of good things to say about any of the makeup geek lipsticks. The color Shy can be described as a nude pink brown, on my lips it looks only a tad lighter then the shade Darling. It is slightly more pink then Darling. The formula of these lipsticks is not one of my favorite, they are extremely slippery and have a very glossy finish. I find that if you layer them over a lip liner they do have less slip to them, however I am yet to find a lip liner that doesn't change this color into an unflattering brown nude. They don't last well on the lips and they have such a horrible plastic smell and taste to each and every one of them. I do like the packaging, I think sleek and it really reminds me of a Lancome lipstick but really this is the only redeeming quality I like about them There is honestly not one quality about them that is anything like a M.A.C lipstick, which is what the main selling point the makeup geek website is saying about them. That they are the same quality as M.A.C but at a fraction of the price. This claim is simply not true, If anything they remind me of a NYX black label lipstick only I enjoy black label lipsticks more. I personally, wont be purchasing any more. I am all for their eyeshadow but I really think they have a lot more work to do on their lipsticks.
Eye Primer -Lime Crime - Candy Eyed Eyeshadow Helper
jaylyn85 7/7/2012 4:53:00 AM
I was so hoping that this product would be the end of my search for a primer that actually works for my oily lids, sadly I'm still looking. I have super dry skin but super oily eyelid's and I think I have tried pretty much every well known primer there is nothing has worked for me so far. This primer actually did stop my eyeshadow from creasing but it didn't stop it from fading. By the end of the day I looked like I had never used a primer in the first place. I also found that this did not increase the vibrancy of my eyeshadow. This primer is pretty expensive and compared to others you don't really get a lot. I also hate that is comes in a pot, I really don't find it hygienic and it's a pain to have to use a brush.
I don't understand the rave reviews for this product. It is practically clear once on the lips. It's a pretty color in the tube but once on the lips it has no color. It is so thick that I can't stand the feel of it on my lips not to mention how sticky it is, It's ten times the thickness and stickiness of a mac lip-gloss. I wouldn't advise wearing this on a windy day with your hair down unless you enjoy hair stuck to your lips. This will probably lie in a draw unused for ages until I chuck it out. Would not try any other color from this line.
Lipstick -Unlisted Brand - Makeup geek lipstick in Darling
jaylyn85 6/15/2012 3:53:00 AM
The makeup geek website makes some pretty strong promises on their about new lip products. The website claims that these lipsticks are just as good as mac, but at a fraction of the price. I DO NOT agree with this statement at all. While it is not a bad lip product, it is nowhere near the quality of a M.A.C lipstick. In my opinion these lipsticks are much more like a NYX black label lipstick. Darling is described on the website as a dupe for M.A.C viva glam gaga IV, I don't have this particular color but I do own some M.A.C lipsticks the closest finish I could compare it to is a cremesheen, however they are much more slippery then any cremesheen I own. I would describe this lipstick as a nude pink brown with a very glossy finish. This lipstick has a very average wear time and is not fully opaque on the lips. It also has a strong plastic smell to it, which also transfers to taste, so if fragrance and taste are something that bother you then I would steer clear of these lipsticks. It is not that I dislike this lipstick, I just do not feel it lives up the claims that are made on the website. I feel that if you are going to compare a cheap product to a very high quality lipstick and tell the consumer that it is just as good then you really have to make sure that you product does in fact live up to the hype because once you push this idea the product will forever be compared to the high end lipstick you have named, which really does not give the product a fair chance. It also does not allow the product to be sold on it's own merit if it is getting sales based on the comparison to another brand. To sum up, these lipsticks are not the same quality as M.A.C. If you want M.A.C quality then you should buy from M.A.C. If you are buying this lipstick in the hopes they compare you will be disappointed.
This mascara is great for lengthening lashes, it definitely makes application very simple although I do find the rotation to be a little tricky. I doesn't really make my lashes voluminous just lengthy. It is a fairly expensive mascara at $26 dollars in Australia. It doesn't take the place of my favorite, sumptuous by Estee Lauder.
Lips -Revlon - Colorburst Lip Butter in Sweet Tart
jaylyn85 5/25/2012 11:40:00 AM
First lets talk about the color of Revlon Sweet Tart- Sweet tart is an opaque, bright almost neon medium pink with yellow undertones. It is much brighter in person then any swatches I have seen online. I have read many reviews that state that these lipsticks are similar to lip balm, in my opinion this is not a very good comparison. I find Revlon lipbutters to be a similar formula to Mac creme sheen lipsticks. I personally do not find them to be all that moisturizing, you really do need to exfoliate your lips before applying these lipsticks as they tend to cling to any chapping of the lips. I get about 2 hours out of these lipsticks so I have to re-apply very often. The price in Australia for one of these lipsticks is an outrageous $21, they are absolutely not worth that amount of money, I found mine on ebay however they were still double the price they are sold for in the USA. when I twisted the lipstick up to see how much product there was I was shocked to see that it looks a lot less then Mac sell. The packaging is not that fantastic the base of the lipstick is very small so it is hard to get the lid off. Basically I don't really understand the hype of these lipsticks and at the price I got mine for I could have shelled out a few extra dollars and brought a Mac lippy..You would think I would learn not to believe all the hype, but it's very hard to stop a makeup junky once she has already justified the spending.
Revlon lip butters remind me of Mac creme sheen lipsticks. They have a very glossy shine to them and are very pigmented. Some reviewers have described these lipsticks as tinted lip balms but in my opinion that is not a correct comparison. Aside from the glossy shine these lipsticks have, I don't particularly find them all too moisturizing. You really need to exfoliate your lips before applying any of these lips sticks as they tend to cling to chapped lips. The wear time for these are about 2 hours but you could extend this by wearing a lip liner underneath them. In Australia these retail for $21, which in my opinion is ridiculous, I had to purchase mine on Ebay so the price was still much higher then to be desired.
Eye Primer -Urban Decay - Eyeshadow Primer Potion - Original (UDPP)
jaylyn85 5/20/2012 8:59:00 AM
The only good thing about this primer is that it keeps my makeup on all day and night, I have no creasing at all with this primer and that is very good considering my eyelids are so oily. I find that it is does not help with the application of eyeshadow because it creates resistance on my eyelid due to the dryness of the product. I absolutely can not apply it on my lower lash line or under eye area because it makes any small wrinkle look so much worse. The packaging is horrible and causes so much wastage. Product is still wasted if you depot because it drys up very quickly and is then unusable. I wont repurchase this.
I wanted to love this but it just would not work for me. I originally brought this as an eyeshadow primer but it fails miserably for this purpose. Any eyeshadow placed on top, crease after a few hours and by the end of the day my eyeshadow is non existent. I can't understand how anyone could think this was better then UDPP. I have to use primer potion underneath this if i want it to not crease which really defeats the purpose. If you have oily eyelids do not expect this to work as a primer becasue you will be wasting your money.
Bronzers -Chanel - Bronze Universel De Chanel Sun Illuminator
jaylyn85 4/27/2012 2:59:00 AM
I don't think I will ever be ever go back to powder bronzer after using this product. This is the only bronzer I have tried that does not make me look muddy or orange. I have extremely fair skin and most bronzers look horrible on me. This one is amazing and worth the extravagant price
This blush is beautiful!!!!! I found this blush on a discount high end shop so that is why I have marked it as cheap, because for me it was. In the pan this color looks like a plummy brown with gold shimmer, when swatched on my cool toned skin it shows as a pinky, purple and it is absolutely beautiful. I have read other reviews that say this blush is not very pigmented but mine definitely is, one swipe and there is enough product for your cheeks. It wears just as well as all Nars blushes and is finely milled. This blush will suit anyone with cool tones in their skin. I would buy this again but I probably wont have to.
Makeup Brushes -Coastal Scents - 22 brush peice brush set
jaylyn85 4/14/2012 4:05:00 AM
I can not express how much I love this brush set, I would buy it a million times over. The set comes encased in a mock leather brush roll, which has an extra compartment to store some extra brushes. The 5 face brushes come with plastic brush guards already on them. I was amazed at the quality of these brushes and I 100% believe they are better quality then sigma brushes. Unlike my sigma brushes I did not have any major problems with shedding from any of these brushes. 3 of the 5 face brushes are duo fiber which is the only complaint I have with the whole set, I would have liked to have seen a natural haired powder brush included, It would make this brush set complete. The face brushes included are: Synthetic flat top buffer brush: Fantastic for foundation application. While it leaves a flawless finish, as with most flat top dense buffer brushes it does soak up foundation, so you will need more then if you used a traditional foundation brush Large duo fiber rounded brush: I assume this meant to be for powder application, however I don't find it particularly useful for this purpose, it is hard to pick up powder even though this brush is very dense. I use this brush for liquid foundation application as well, it works amazing for water based foundations leaves no streaking and does not soak up much foundation Angled contour brush: This brush is wonderfully soft and much denser then others I have used. Great for contouring your cheek bones. Duo fiber blush brush. This is the brush that I wish was just natural fibers although it is great for applying cream blush. Traditional foundation brush: Very soft brush feels amazing on your face and applies well. Large fan brush: I have never owned a fan brush before so I can compare but this brush is again duo fiber works well for adding a high light or for adding powder under the eyes to avoid fallout. Each and every eye brush is amazing there is not one that isn't useful. There is an amazing pencil brush in here that in my opinion is the closest thing I have used to the mac 219. All in all I love this brush set and I think it is a great set for the price. I have heard other people saying that brush sets are not for experienced makeup users which in my opinion is pretty funny. I think most people would be very happy to own this little kit. I especially love the eye brushes. I just don't think you could find a better set for such an amazing price. If your after a brush set at a reasonable price then you should check these out. Coastal scents shipped them to me pretty quick, I'm in Australia and I received them in about a week. Edit: As of now I have to change my recommendation for this brush set. After using and washing these brushes many times I had the large duo fiber powder brush completely fall apart like nothing I have ever seen before. I must say I treat my brushes really well so I was surprised when this started shedding all of a sudden, the more i used it and washed it the more it shed. When huge clumps of hair started coming out of this brush I had a close look at it and could see that it was getting very thin. The glue that holds brush hairs together started deteriorating causing enormous shedding. I had to throw it out, I wasn't prepared to keep using it on my face. All the other brushes work well still but I have to wonder if it will start happening to the rest of them with more use.
This mascara is clumpy lashville. The only good thing about it, is that it's waterproof. Not worth the 26 bucks I payed. The wand seems to hold a lot of product which of course causes the clumps. I rarely use this mascara due to the mess it leaves my lashes in.
