Scrubs -Desert Essence - Gentle Stimulating Face Scrub
rated 1 of 5
incognito 1/6/2013 12:12:00 PM

I did not find this scrub to be gentle at all - it contains walnut shell powder which is highly irritating to sensitive skin (BTW if you must use a physical exfoliant, look for synthetic scrub particles like polyethylene beads). Also, it has a strange dusty smell, though it's subtle. The jar packaging is not as easy to use as a tube. This isn't a winner for me! ***I noticed the ingredients have changed since the original review on this was posted. Here is the current ingredients list: Water (Aqua), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Glycerin (Plant), Cetyl Alcohol (Plant), Glyceryl Stearate SE (Vegetable), Juglans Regia (Walnut) Shell Powder, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Meal, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Powder, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Seed Meal, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, (Natural Grain) Alcohol, Sodium Benzoate, Gluconolactone, (Natural) Fragrance (Parfum), Potassium Sorbate.

Lipstick -Revlon - Colorburst Lip Butter
rated 2 of 5
incognito 12/10/2012 9:12:00 PM

I just don't get the hype. These are basically heavily tinted lip balms with a thick texture that just sit on top of your lips with a slight "fruit & old lipstick" smell. The cap is hard to take off. While I love Revlon in general and their Super Lustrous lipsticks are great - they feel light and have no smell - these lip butters are just gross to me. EDIT Feb 2013. OK so I added a lippie to my original rating. I've figured out that these can look OK if I apply a light layer of lip balm first, then swipe this on top. Then I get a sheer wash of colour that doesn't feel heavy and yucky. But of course, with all the layering, the result lasts all of about 15 minutes.

Polishes -Essie - Nailpolish
rated 1 of 5

My main problem with Essie is that you can't (at least here in Canada) find a list of ingredients for the nailpolish. Not on the bottles; not on the displays; not on the website. I even e-mailed the company from their "contact" page and never got a response. This seems shady to me. Never buying Essie again.

Polishes -Sally Hansen - Diamond Strength - Crystal Beading
rated 5 of 5
incognito 11/17/2012 9:07:00 PM

I love this iridescent polish that flashes light blue (mostly), light pink and white in a clear base. 1 coat gives a micro-shimmer shine, 2 coats make nails look like they have a layer of snowflakes on them! Applies easily and dries quickly, though the typical n/p smell does linger for a bit. The small, curvy cap is a bit hard to hold securely, but that's a minor complaint. I believe this is limited edition for Fall 2012. P.S. This makes an awesome topcoat too!

On me, this was a very generic fruity-floral (mostly floral). Not a keeper...

Polishes -Revlon - Chic
rated 3 of 5

It kills me to rate a Revlon nailpolish as just so-so, because in general I find their polishes to be awesome and they are probably my favourite brand (due to the quality, the lasting power, and the lack of a strong chemical smell like some others have). The pros about this one? It covers in 1 coat! And the formula is great just like always with Revlon. The cons? The colour.... unlike the other reviewers, I'd call this a muted TEAL (not dusty blue or gray-blue) which in and of itself is nice, but on me, gives me terrible lobster hands :-(

Fragrances -Lancome - La Vie Est Belle

Fragrance preferences are very personal... To me, this has a strong kick of patchouli - the same one that Coco Mademoiselle has - which gives me an instant gag reaction and sometimes triggers a migraine. Boo.

BB Cream -Maybelline - Dream Fresh 8-in-1 BB Cream
rated 5 of 5
incognito 10/8/2012 11:08:00 AM

Being the cynic that I am, I just laugh at the "8-in-1" claims. This is simply a fantastic non-chemical (titanium dioxide) SPF 30 facial sunscreen with just a hint of tint, so that you don't get that typical white cast of non-chemical sunscreens. Thank you Maybelline!

Polishes -Revlon - Top Speed Nail Polish
rated 2 of 5
incognito 9/19/2012 1:46:00 PM

I've had this n/p in a few different colours and they were all beautiful. The problem I have with this n/p is the lingering chemical-y odour even after it dries that lasts a day or two. Btw this dries just as quickly as the regular Revlon n/p, and that one doesn't have the smell issue, so guess which one I prefer?

Polishes -Unlisted Brand - Soulstice Spa - nailpolish in Kauai
rated 5 of 5
incognito 8/24/2012 12:16:00 AM

This brand is vegan and 3-free, yay! I ordered online after reading rave reviews on some nail blogs. The colours are gorgeous and this review is for "Kauai" which is a medium-toned, shimmery, berry-toned red that looks great on toes. Applies easily, dries quickly, stinks minimally. Costs about $8.50 Cdn; I believe their website lists the price as $8 USD. This is very reasonable given the quality and philosophy.

Polishes -Zoya - Melodie
rated 2 of 5
incognito 8/24/2012 12:05:00 AM

A great nude nail that's not boring! Definitely cool-toned. I read on some nail blog that it's discontinued but I just got it from nailpolishcanada.com. EDITED Dec 2012: Like some other Zoya polishes, this polish has a terrible strong smell that lingers long after it's dry, so that renders it basically unusable for me. I also got sick of how the colour made my hands look corpse-like.

Polishes -Sally Hansen - Greige Gardens
rated 2 of 5
incognito 8/17/2012 12:05:00 AM

I'm underwhelmed by this. My biggest problem with it is that it needs a minimum of 3 coats to reach something almost resembling opacity, and I'm a 2-coat-maximum kind of gal. The colour is OK - a cool-toned medium purple-gray with more purple than gray; definitely no beige in there to make it "greige" - although for some reason this gives me a touch of lobster hands in certain lighting. On the plus side, I do love the big flat brush, and the formula dries very quickly.

Hair -Moroccanoil - Moroccan Oil
rated 1 of 5

I echo the other negative reviews on here, and also want to stress that this stuff is STRONGLY scented in a perfumey/incense kind of way that will trigger a migraine if you're prone to them!

Lip Gloss -Revlon - Super Lustrous in Coral Reef
rated 2 of 5
incognito 7/14/2012 9:04:00 AM

Maybe I got a defective batch or something, but mine was almost clear with just a hint of coral that barely showed up (I'm fair-skinned with lightly-pigmented lips). That's the 1st problem. The 2nd is that this irritated my lips; after an hour or so, my lips were a bit tingly, the way they sometimes get when I wear any lip products with sunscreen in them. Boo.
