Polishes -OPI - My Private Jet

My new favorite nail polish of all time. It's too bad it's LE. It's a sort of sheer charcoal color, that looks unremarkable in regular light, but once sunlight hits it? WOW. RAINBOW SHIMMER. It's truly a beautiful shade. I wish it were permanent.

Lip Treatments -Smith's Rosebud Salve - Minted Rose Lip Balm
rated 5 of 5
hiyashinsu 7/11/2007 7:50:00 PM

This is my FAVORITE lip balm ever. I have this, the regular Rosebud Salve, and the strawberry. I use them all, but Minted Rose is my favorite. That's the one I'm running out of a lot faster. It's such a wonderful scent, and it really makes my lips soft. It's also a bit glossy, so I kinda look like I made more of an effort than I actually did. ;)

Lip Gloss -Yves Saint Laurent - golden gloss 2
rated 5 of 5
hiyashinsu 7/11/2007 7:48:00 PM

This is my "everyday" Golden Gloss. I've also got #6, but that's more of a nighttime shade, IMO. This one's good for wearing during the day. I absolutely love these glosses. The price is steep, but they're well worth it. They're gorgeous. There are some tacky-looking shades in the line, but most of them are lovely. I definitely want another one, maybe a pink. But I'd buy this one again, as it's the one I use most often.

Lip Gloss -Yves Saint Laurent - Golden Gloss 6 - Gold Plum
rated 5 of 5
hiyashinsu 7/11/2007 7:46:00 PM

This color strikes me as more of a very wearable, sheer red than a plum. I absolutely love it. It was my first Golden Gloss, but I bought another shade soon after this one. They're expensive, but SO beautiful.

Makeup Brushes -Cinema Secrets - Brush Cleaner
rated 5 of 5
hiyashinsu 7/11/2007 7:42:00 PM

It's a bit expensive, yes, but it works! It's the only method of cleaning brushes that really CLEANS them. It's easier to use than MAC (you don't have to dilute it), and it dries really quickly (about 10 minutes for small brushes, and maybe 20 or 30 for denser face brushes). Just be sure you wipe the brushes off really well. I use paper towels, and I keep wiping the brush until it stops leaving greasy spots on the paper. Even my Alima brushes, which literally take DAYS to dry using MAC cleanser, dry really quickly with this stuff. It might be expensive, but it's totally worth it. I also got their brush cleanser tin, which is what I put the stuff in so I can dip the brushes. Can't say enough good things about this stuff. I'll never use any other brush cleanser again.

Styling Products -Sunsilk - Anti-Poof 24-7 Creme

It worked, but I also found that it exacerbated my breakouts on my face, because my head goes on the pillow, my face lies on spots my hair was on, you know how that goes. I stopped using it.

Makeup Brushes -Everyday Minerals - Oval Concealer Brush
rated 4 of 5

I guess this is the same as the Precision Camouflage Brush, right? That's the one I have, and I really like it. I got it as part of a kit, and I honestly did not expect much from a brush that retails $6. It's actually really good for applying mineral concealer! My MAC 242 didn't apply them well, and kinda scratched my undereye area a bit. This brush, however, is springy-but-soft, and did not irritate the skin under my eyes AT ALL, even though I was doing a lot of blending. This is such a great concealer brush, I'm planning to get another one when I order full-sizes of the mint and sunlight color correctors.

Loose Powders -Everyday Minerals - Silk Dust (Untinted ) [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
hiyashinsu 2/28/2007 8:12:00 AM

This is the best finishing powder I've ever used. Hands down. Not only is it 100% silk powder, which means NO CORNSTARCH, but it disappeared on top of my foundation and set it really well. No oily breakthroughs, even after an entire day of wearing it. Will definitely keep buying once I run out.

Blush -Everyday Minerals - Girl's Day
rated 2 of 5
hiyashinsu 2/28/2007 8:11:00 AM

YUCK. This color is so... ORANGE. And the shimmer is so overdone that it makes your cheeks look greasy. I used a light hand, and a MAC 187 to apply, and it STILL looked horrible. So dirty and orange and shiny. Ugh, the only reason it got 2 lippies is because I found it looks nice when used as a lip color.

Blush -Everyday Minerals - Apple

I have a sample of this. I tried Girls Day, which was horrible, so I didn't want to commit to any of their full-size blushes without trying first. This one was the only one that appealed to me. I thought it was gonna be dark and muddy and SHINY-looking like Girls Day, but this is actually a pretty color. I don't think I'd buy a full-size, but if you don't have a lot of blush in your collection, you might wanna try this one. I'm NW20, for reference. It looked fine when I used a light hand to apply.

Concealers -Everyday Minerals - Multi-tasking Concealer
rated 5 of 5
hiyashinsu 2/28/2007 8:00:00 AM

I like this concealer a lot. I have many, many concealers in my collection (even a NARS one), and this one outperforms them all. It's not that good for undereye circles, so make sure you get their Sunlight color corrector for those.

This stuff's great for dark circles, but even a small amount gets cakey under my eyes, so I'm not sure I'd buy it again now. I'll keep working with it, and see if using a different brush fixes the problem.

Blush -MAC - Satin Blush - Well Dressed
rated 4 of 5
hiyashinsu 2/28/2007 7:55:00 AM

This is a really lovely color. I'm glad I got it, because it's being discontinued, and if I'd waited any longer I wouldn't get a chance to try it. I hate that MAC will discontinue really great shades, and keep a lot of mediocre ones just because they're bright or something. I don't pretend to know what goes on in their heads when they discontinue something. Often, it's something they really should have kept around. Maybe if they'd stop releasing new collections every damn month, they'd have room to keep more of the staple colors. I mean, they also got rid of Cute, for god's sake! MAC's annoying sometimes.

Powder -Meow Cosmetics - Pure Powder Mineral Foundation
rated 3 of 5

Honestly? It was a little chalky. Now, it could be that the shades I tried were too light, but it just looked very "powdery" on my face. Looks like I'm still on a search for a great mineral foundation.

Blush -Flirt - Cheek Mousse
rated 4 of 5
hiyashinsu 1/26/2007 5:49:00 PM

I was skeptical about this stuff when I bought it, but Madame X was such a unique color (looks like bright red with gold and pink pearl), I had to get it. I LOVE IT!! This mousse blush is perfect, and using it with the Feather Dust-Her brush makes it go on really nicely. I'm very pale (NW15/20), and was afraid that Madame X would be too dark, but it's very easy to apply it sheerly, and the finish is beautiful. I definitely want to get the other colors, as well as repurchase Madame X when I run out. :)
