Hair -Back to Basics - Sunflower Shampoo

This is a clear shampoo that doesn't strip your hair, and is the only one i have come across that lives up to the much cliched claim of a gentle yet effective clean. it doesn't lather up very well but it's a nice sign that they keep the sudsing agents to a minimal. use it with the conditioner and it leaves your hair really light n bouncy :)

Fragrances -Clinique - Simply [DISCONTINUED]

Although this may not be one of the most appealing scents in the market, it is indeed strangely addictive. I am not a fan of liquorice as candy let alone in its olfactory state, but clinique makes it seem tolerable... it blends in well with my natural body warmth. I can't detect the soy, but i can smell traces of milk and melon. Overall scent is not offensive, but some may need time for it to grow on them. And once that happens, all efforts are handsomely rewarded.

Lip Treatments -Palmers - Cocoa Butter Formula Moisturizing Lip Balm w/Vitamin E & Spf 15

i'm so sore about losing my first tube! i've just bought an alternative brand of balm and it just doesn't compare. the cocoa butter lip balm is superior in product amount, packaging and above all, texture. it instantly leaves your kips super soft without any trace of greasiness. the smell isn't too strong either, it's pleasantly mild and it disappears quickly enough for it to not bother you. and it is SO CHEAP! it's so rare to find something so good at such a steal. just fabulous stuff.

Light, flirty summer fragrance. Mainly citrus with fruity notes, not too strong but still has sufficient lasting power. Even smelling it from the nozzle makes me smile! It shares the same sweetness that comes from L'eau Par Kenzo for Women. Great daytime fragrance, but I prefer to wear it 24/7!

Moisturizers -Estee Lauder - Hydra Complete Multi-Level Moisture Creme(Dry Skin)

i won a full-size pot in a magazine competition. i love the mild scent that's subtley fresh. the texture is rather thick and slightly greasy so i only use teensy dabs all over my face every night. when i wake up my face is soft and wonderfully moisturized, and no sign of breakout. the only thing i didn't like was the unhygenic and inconvenient packaging. i have to dip my finger into the pot to get some creme. plus, on the first day i tried it, i left the open pot on my table and didn't realize that i had placed it at a slant, so by the time i looked down a good blob of it had oozed all over my brush and dressing table! as long as you are extra cautious about handling the pot and its contents, it should be fine. recommended if you're looking at a worthy splurge on a heavy-duty moisturizer.

Mascara -Maybelline - Great Lash Mascara
rated 3 of 5

Got this in the curved brush form. if one coat is used your lashes still look bare, as though you didn't put anything on it to begin with. but i just found out recently that the secret is layering after each coat is completely dry. one coat is nice for a clean, bare look but if you want a more dramatic-but-still-natural-looking effect then go for 2-3 coats. no clumping is a plus, but the consistency is a bit too thin for the brush to pick up much. a so-so investment, i'd rather not repurchase.

I have the special sun scent (sans alcohol) as i found the original far too strong. the sun version just smells a little lighter and so you get the same scent without the gagging effect. The packaging is just about the same, only with a lighter blue tint. unique bottle but the cap doesn't snap on very well and the spray device spurts the fragrance out like a hose instead of a mist. however the fragrance is nice - a warm, floral scent that's simple enough for daytime use yet elegant enough to use at night. very versatile! if only it lasts longer on my skin...

Liquid -L'Oreal - Translucide luminous foundation [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
funkstar_G 11/16/2004 11:33:00 PM

This is a great foundation. bought this at a L'Oreal product clearance, in Golden Beige. it gives a sheer coverage with a sexily subtle glow. it doesn't feel too heavy, neither does it cake up with powder. and if i'm not in humid weather, it stays put for a good portion of the day. the pump mechanism makes application a neat breeze. would definitely repurchase if i can find it again... EDIT - I'm on the last bit of foundation in the bottle and it's making my face look like an oil slick! might be because i've been keeping it around for too long, or i haven't been shaking the bottle to mix the ingredients around properly when I used the first half... ?

bleurgh! this is what they should use to smoke out rats or something. it has such an 'old' smell, and it's so choking! the packaging is nice and that's it. won't EVER buy...

Lip Gloss -Red Earth Cosmetics - Lip Gloss
rated 4 of 5

These come in gorgeously cute pots - perfect to bring along on a night out in town. i think your level of satisfaction with red earth glosses depends on the season which you get your hands on one; i have 3 pots and they all have different textures! one is a hard-like jelly, one is a slightly creamy one with glitter in it, and the other is VERY thick and creamy. the first two go on clear and glittery, the last one is a shimmery nude-beige color, smells like chocolate and makes me feel like such a cover girl! it has great staying power - i just spread it over my lips with a finger and it gives me such a rich, sexy pout, i don't even need to use any lippie underneath! the only reason why i'm giving it 4 outta 5 lippies is coz one of my other glosses has glitter that gives me this itchy-scratchy feeling on my lips. really wierd - none of my other glitter glosses do that!

Highlighters -The Body Shop - Glow Enhancer
rated 3 of 5
funkstar_G 8/13/2004 4:58:00 AM

comes in such an impractical tube - there's no applicator whatsoever so it leaves a higher chance of contamination. certainly doesn't help with dealing with the thin consistency. nevertheless it helps give off this fresh pinkish glow to a naked face... effect is very subtle. You can actually wear this without moisturizer as it already feels 'greasy' (in a pleasant way). don't expect it to last all day though! overall this is a nice buy - a cheaper, milder alternative to the hardcore highlighter, Magic Potion by Red Earth. now THAT is one potion worth getting.

got this in brownie. although it does give a *little* bit more life in terms of color and moisture, it only lasts for half an hour max. it doesn't really sink into my lips so it doesn't do too much for dry lips unless you keep reapplying. comes in a neat, slim packaging. nice for a quick fix but that's about it.

Skincare - Face -Za - Energy Water
rated 2 of 5
funkstar_G 8/11/2004 2:31:00 AM

I got this in a small travel size. it's cute and it refreshes a dry face but the moment it evaporates your face feels dry again. i only use it now before bedtime - i spritz some on before applying ZA Cool Pool. it only works well that way! a normal-sized bottle doesn't cost too much but don't expect too much out of it either. not planning to purchase!

Masks -Za - Metavoltage Cream
rated 3 of 5
funkstar_G 3/19/2004 3:00:00 AM

This is a pretty good exfoliating product but like many good things, there comes a bad side - in some cases, there are quite a few bad sides. I bought this cream while there was a 'Buy 1 Free 1' promo going on. it's hard to get a nice, even layer when you smear it on your face coz it dries so quickly. It also has this really harsh smell. The waiting time takes anywhere between 15 - 40 seconds, depending on the climate. When I rubbed it off in flakes, it pulled my skin a lot. So after all these bad points, the only reason why I'm still giving it 3 lippies is because of the end result: soft, smooth skin in an instant. There's another southeast asian brand of exfoliator that is applied the same way but feels a lot more gentle on my skin: Ginvera Marvel Gel. It costs almost twice as much but my skin feels a lot safer with it. If Metavoltage Cream goes on special offer again I'll go get it. otherwise, I'm sticking to Ginvera :P
