Mascara -Rimmel - Glam Eyes
dollief 11/7/2010 10:07:00 PM
I love the brush, but the mascara does NOTHING for my lashes. I wish L'Oreal would make a mascara with this brush and the Voluminous formula. Still, the best mascara I've ever used is Merle Norman Extra Length. I can't afford $18 a tube, though!

Does absolutely nothing for my fine, straight hair. Waste of $3.97. Going back to John Frieda.

Eye Shadow -Sally Hansen - Natural Beauty Instant Definition Eye Shadow Palette
dollief 10/21/2010 11:02:00 PM
I have this in the "Storm" palette, and have to say it is the first palette I've bought where I actually use all the colors. Some other reviewer said that it is a "no-brainer" for getting a smokey eye on a fair skinned person, this is true The palette has a smooth slightly ivory-toned white, a medium-deep taupe, and a dark bluish grey. Very sophisticated colors, and easy even for me to get a sophisticated smokey eye look that is absolutely work-appropriate and elegant when blended out correctly. Nice! EDIT: 1/16/11 -- editing to say that I still LOVE these colors, but have found they fade on me to almost totally gone by the end of the workday. Won't repurchase.

Treatments -Neutrogena - Rapid Clear Acne Defense Face Lotion
dollief 10/9/2010 3:11:00 PM
Excellent, cheap BHA product! Very effective at exfoliation, but does not irritate my skin at all. Keeps me silky smooth and clear. I use it every night after cleansing w/ J&J Head to Toe Baby Wash, and then moisturize over it. Works great and is affordable. Only complaint is that I wish it had a flip closure on the lid!

Liquid -Revlon - PhotoReady Makeup
dollief 7/4/2010 7:38:00 PM
This didn't work for me because it accentues large pores badly, and it felt damp on my face and wouldn't "dry out" or "set." It also doesn't cover as well as my Almay Clear Complexion Blemish Healing makeup. I did love the color, however. That was even better than the Almay. The lightest shade of PhotoReady is "Ivory" and is a true neutral, light ivory -- which is hard to find at the drugstore. Most foundations' lightest shade is too pink or too yellow for me. This was a beautiful neutral, and matched my PPP skin perfectly. As for the glitter, the finish on this particular bottle (are the lots not consistent? I don't know) was luminescent, not glittery. I loved that! But, it didn't cover up my red cheeks as well as Almay, didn't set well, and emphasized my pores. It's going back.

Conditioner -L'Oreal - Feria Color Moisturizing Treatment.
dollief 7/3/2010 11:01:00 PM
I have very thin, fine, color treated hair that I have to wash and style every single day. It's hard to find a conditioner that works well but doesn't weigh it down, but this works great! Costs $8.99 at Sally. Will certainly repurchase.

Makeup Brushes -Essence of Beauty - Foundation Brush
dollief 6/30/2010 8:14:00 PM
This review is for the orange brush that comes in a package with the large concealer brush. It is large and really soft. I was afraid of the size, thinking I wouldn't get precision, but nope.... it works great! The shape lets you have precision even with the large size, and the large size lets you get finished faster. It also does not soak up too much foundation.

Shampoo -Suave - Professionals Rosemary Mint Shampoo
dollief 6/24/2010 7:58:00 PM
I have very fine, thin, color treated hair. This shampoo smells very nice and doesn't weigh the hair down, but it is WAY WAY too drying and leaves my hair full of static and flyaway, and the ends look ratty and oddly won't hold a style. Only good for very oily, virgin hair, or if you need a totally stripping shampoo. EDIT: Taking away every single lippie, because it was just amazing how TWO uses of this stripped my L'Oreal 7-1/2 BB blonde hair down to yellow, dried out brass! Went and bought some Natures Gate Herbal and some Feria conditioner and trying to nurse it back to health! NEVER AGAIN.

Mascara -Merle Norman - Luxiva Xtra Length Mascara
dollief 6/1/2010 8:06:00 PM
Great lengthening mascara that also thickens. Stays all day, does not smear or flake. Makes even me look like I have lashes. Wonderful brush for those who prefer thinner, longer brushes rather than the current craze for extremely FAT brushes. BUT....Voluminous is just as good, possibly better, and is under 10 bucks, whereas I paid $18 for this. So.... won't repurchase. EDIT 8.21.10 -- ran out of this and had to go back to Voluminous, and there is no comparision. Beginning to think it might be worth the $18 it costs where I live.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous mascara
dollief 6/1/2010 8:03:00 PM
Tried this when I lost my beloved 2000 Calorie after they discontinued the Max Factor line in the U.S. This is a WONDERFUL mascara, possibly even better than 2000 Calorie. I have the wimpiest lashes imaginable and this gives me almost a "falsies" look, which i love. It does thicken more than lengthen, but it lengthens enough to make even me look like I have lashes. This is my HG!

Bath Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Alpha Keri Shower and Bath Moisture Rich Oil
dollief 5/30/2010 5:29:00 PM
Ashleyanders review, below is spot-on. The generic CVS or Walgreen's version is just as good as the name brand. It is not intended for a hand moisturizer or soles of feet, which do better with a heavier cream like Eucerin, BUT.......This is an excellent after-bath body moisturizer, or you can add it to bath water as a bath oil. My skin is super dry and flaky from Lupus, and this is what I use to shave my legs with and to splash my skin with after bath while still wet, then towel off and I'm done. Wonderful, economical product!!

Highlighters -Revlon - ColorStay Mineral Finishing Powder - Brighten [DISCONTINUED]
dollief 5/28/2010 9:06:00 AM
I got this in Brighten. It's a very lovely powder that gives a mineral sheen or "glow". It looks as if it would be pink, but the pink does not show up. Beautiful on my very pale skin. I use it just on the high places of my face to "unmatte" the oily skin matte foundation I have to wear. Be CAREFUL though! Use just the barest little amount or you will indeed look like a disco ball.

Powder -Merle Norman - Luxiva Purely Mineral Makeup
dollief 5/21/2010 8:48:00 PM
I'm heartbroken that this does not come in a shade fair enough for my very pale neutral skin tone. It covers really well, gives a lovely glow, and you get a generous amount for the price. THAT said... I'm registering a gripe about the MN studio I went to. I feel that I was pushed into buying products too dark/orange for my skin because the owner didn't carry the lightest shades in most things and didn't want to order any because they have to order in packs of three. So, I drop $100 on products, then have to take a concealer back that just absolutely was a greasy mess, and now I'm stuck with this $25 foundation because I don't want to go in there again and put the woman out any more. PLUS she pushed too dark a shade of Powder Base on me, again because she didn't carry/want to order Porcelain. I used to be a merle norman fan, but I am sick of how they push their most expensive products over the older, basic, cheaper items. This has happened to me at every studio I've been to. They have lost a customer.

Powder -Merle Norman - Luxiva Ultra Powder Foundation
dollief 5/21/2010 8:41:00 PM
EDIT to say... didn't like this at first, but when applied LIGHTLY with a powder brush, this is ideal to set Merle Norman's powder base. I'm very very fair, neutral, and this is a perfect match -- which is very hard to find! Plus, this compact has lasted me a solid YEAR!

Cleansers -Ponds - Deep Cleanser Cold Cream
dollief 5/18/2010 9:14:00 PM
8/27/10 EDIT: Get the CVS version of the original, hundred year-old Ponds formula -- NOT the new Ponds formula. Also the CVS version smells much better than the Walgreen's version. The new Ponds is not the same product at all. The classic cold cream is a classic for a reason. The absolute best at removing makeup, then I remove it with a warm, wet baby wipe. Have to avoid the eyes, though... they are too sensitive for anything but J&J Head to toe, which I follow the cold cream with.
