Lipstick -Revlon - Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain - Charm
rated 2 of 5

It's times like these where I ask myself why I didn't consult MUA before buying...oh well. So I bought this mistakenly thinking that I would actually get a color similar to the color of the tube - a corally peach. I ended up having to swipe this back and forth on my lips at least twenty times in order to get any sort of color to show up, and when it did, it just made my lips an unflattering milky shade that made me look ill. And when I wiped it off, it had stained my lips a ridiculously bright orangey red color that would come off even with makeup remover.

Lipstick -Revlon - Colorburst Lip Butter - Berry Smoothie
rated 5 of 5
desertrose08 4/20/2013 10:16:00 PM

I was a little apprehensive buying this color because I thought it would be a deep purple that I wouldn't be able to wear every day but it's actually a lot more wearable than I expected! On me, Berry Smoothie is just a shade or two deeper than my natural lip color and is a flattering pinky plum. I love how moisturizing the formula is and how it doesn't settle in my lip lines at all. I would say that this and Sweet Tart are my favorite of the lip butters I have tried so far.

Lips -Revlon - ColorBurst Lip Butter in Peach Parfait
rated 2 of 5
desertrose08 4/20/2013 10:11:00 PM

So I think it has been established that this shade looks absolutely NOTHING like what Emma Stone had on in the lip butter ad, which to me was annoying and misleading. Moving on to the product itself, I wasn't very impressed with Peach Parfait in comparison to other lip butters like Berry Smoothie and Sweet Tart firstly because of the gritty glitter/shimmer and secondly because it doesn't really add a whole lot to my natural lip color and when I applied it quite heavily, it didn't look very flattering.

Lipstick -Revlon - Colorburst Lip Butter - 080 Strawberry Shortcake
rated 2 of 5
desertrose08 4/20/2013 10:05:00 PM

So I purchased this after everyone and their mother was raving about how amazing revlon lip butters were and in particular how lovely and wearable this shade was. On me unfortunately, this turned to a garish, barbie pink that emphasized my lip lines and clashed horrendously with my olive skin tone. The formula was nice, but the color just didn't do it for me.

Lips -Revlon - Colorburst Lip Butter in Sweet Tart
rated 5 of 5
desertrose08 4/20/2013 9:59:00 PM

I generally am quite unadventurous when it comes to lip colors: I almost always go for soft pinky nudes/corals. I like the look of deeper lip colors on other people but on me I often feel they make me look overly made up. Sweet Tart seems to be the exception for me - it's a beautiful, rich raspberry color that is somehow still wearable. The formula is also wonderfully moisturizing, perhaps even more so than some of the other Revlon lip butters (eg peach parfait, strawberry shortcake). Even if you're like me and tend to stick to really soft colors, I would go out on a limb and give this one a try :)

Shampoo -LUSH - NEW! Hair
rated 1 of 5
desertrose08 4/20/2013 9:49:00 PM

So I bought this product because of the rave reviews thinking it would give some oomph to my fine, curly, chest length hair. I wasn't expecting miracles or anything but I also wasn't expecting it to cause my hair to fall out in clumps. While I was using the shampoo I noticed that when I would comb my hair the comb would have a lot more hair in it than normal. I never thought of attributing it to the shampoo until I saw other reviewers mention that they also had experienced above average hair loss. I've stopped using the shampoo and I confirmed that it was the culprit behind my hair falling out in clumps because now it's back to normal, thankfully.

Fragrances -Calvin Klein - Forbidden Euphoria
rated 5 of 5
desertrose08 4/20/2013 7:44:00 PM

I really like Forbidden Euphoria - I personally found the original Euophoria slightly too musky for my taste and I like how Forbidden Euphoria retains some of the muskiness of the original but has the added berry notes to soften and sweeten it. I don't really like the initial burst but after a few minutes it starts to settle and develop beautifully. Give it a try but wait a few minutes to form an opinion about it - I don't think you'll be disappointed :)

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Ed Hardy Perfume - Love Kills Slowly Women's EDT
rated 5 of 5
desertrose08 4/20/2013 7:37:00 PM

So I'm not super into Ed Hardy or anything but I have to say straight up that I adore this perfume. I'm not great at describing perfumes but this is a beautiful fruity/floral that actually doesn't smell super teeny-bopper-esque. I also love how it lingers but is light enough to wear in the day or at night for that matter without feeling like you're suffocating everyone around you. Pretty much every time I wear this I get compliments.

Palettes -TheBalm - Balm Jovi Face Palette
rated 4 of 5
desertrose08 4/20/2013 7:30:00 PM

As everyone else mentioned, this is a pretty great palette. I loved how they had a little of everything - neutrals, a few deep shades, mattes, and shimmers. I also loved how it included a blush, highlighter, and two lip colors (although to be honest I hate lip products that require a brush or for me to use my fingers). Another great aspect of the packaging is its super compact packaging. It's a really great all-rounder palette especially for beginners especially because all the shades are quite wearable. So why not five stars? To be honest I was a little underwhelmed with the texture of a few of the eyeshadows, namely Blink 1982, Third Eye Blinded, and the Stroke. The lip colors are ok, nothing to write home about but to be honest that's how most lip colors in palettes are. Other than that though the palette is lovely - especially the mattes which are buttery and pigmented without being powdery.

Makeup Brushes -Real Techniques by Samantha Chapman - Expert Face Brush
rated 5 of 5
desertrose08 4/20/2013 7:14:00 PM

I've tried a fair share of foundation brushes (flat, duo fiber, kabuki) and I never really had much success with them - they all left my foundation looking streaky and uneven. This is by far the best foundation brush I've ever used - I can't even begin to list all the reasons it's amazing but I'll try: - suuuuper soft - never sheds - can stand on your table top - extremely affordable - dense enough to really buff the foundation into your skin - brilliantly designed because it doesn't have a short ferrule that will allow water to get into the bristles while the brush is being washed. You can use also it for contouring or blush as well so I'm planning on purchasing another one or two. In summary - this is an amazing brush and I love that you can purchase it on its own.

Misc Beauty Tools -beautyblender - the sponge
rated 4 of 5
desertrose08 4/19/2013 10:15:00 PM

So like many others I was extremely skeptical about buying a sponge that costs $26 CDN before tax. However after using it, I have joined the beauty blender cult because it makes my foundation go on even more flawlessly than my favorite foundation brush (Real Techniques Expert Face brush). The only thing I don't like (which is why I bumped off a lippie) is how fragile it is, I used mine for only a few months and the top ripped while I was washing it. However, I will still repurchase but this time I'll probably order it off Amazon so I can get a better deal.

Eye Shadow -Maybelline - Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Gel Shadow in Bad to the Bronze / on and on bronze
rated 4 of 5
desertrose08 4/19/2013 10:10:00 PM

On me, Bad to the Bronze is a metallic deep taupe. I really like how shiny it makes my lids look and how I can slap it on with some mascara and look put together. The only thing I didn't like was how it creases on my almost every time after I would say four hours even if I apply primer.

Lipstick -MAC - Cosmo Lipstick
rated 3 of 5
desertrose08 4/19/2013 10:07:00 PM

I bought this after seeing Tanya Burr feature it in her gorgeous "first date makeup" look. On me, Cosmo is a deep rosy color that leans slightly too brown for my liking. What I do love about Cosmo is the formula - it goes on super creamy and doesn't settle into my lip lines at all.

Lipstick -Cover Girl - lip perfection/heavenly
rated 3 of 5
desertrose08 4/19/2013 10:03:00 PM

So I saw Temptalia's swatch of this and I ran out and bought it because I though it would be a moisturizing, soft pink for every day use. On my lips it's a slightly bold corally pink - it's not neon or anything but slightly less subdued than I expected. Nevertheless it's still a nice color and I feel like it really brightens my face. What I didn't like about it is how every time I wear it, it settles into my lip lines. It also has a slightly strong "lipstick" smell that my mother's lipsticks used to have back in the day.

Lipstick -Maybelline - Lust for Blush Color Whisper
rated 5 of 5
desertrose08 2/13/2013 12:20:00 AM

Wow I never thought I'd find my HG pinky nude....but here it is. I haven't written a review for a product since 2011, but this was so gorgeous I just had to add to the rave reviews. This may sound silly, but I have searched and searched for the perfect nude pink for about a year and I could not find this color - a nude pink that wasn't too bright but at the same time not too nude, glossy but not sticky, and to top it all off moisturizing. I wanted a lipstick I could wear with just mascara and I could also wear with an evening smokey eye. I can't believe I've finally found it :D All that's left is for it to be discontinued within the next few months as that's what always happens with my HG products haha.
