Liquid -Prescriptives - Virtual Youth

This is my holy grail foundation!! I have rosacea and therefore my skin is very sensitive. Most foundations that I've tried either break me out, irritate my skin (too drying) or are like grease on my face. This foundation leaves a beautiful, natural finish (slightly dewy) that covers my redness. I used smooth champagne for the winter and will be purchasing smooth beige to mix with the champagne for the summer. Just be careful when being color-printed. If you have any redness in your skin, rather than trying to camoflauge it, the color matching will put you in a shade that matches the redness rather than your undertone. So just be aware. Great stuff though and I have tried everything!!! Update 3/13/05: Still absolutely loving this foundation. I have since repurchased it and it is undeniably my HG. My patients always tell me how beautiful my 'skin' looks and most don't believe me when I tell them I have rosacea and wear a foundation daily. Wonderful stuff!!

Lotions/ Creams -Aveeno - Daily Moisturizing Lotion
daz4 2/1/2004 2:39:00 PM
I have been using this moisturizer for my nighttime facial moisturizer and it works like a dream. My skin soaks it right up and feels soft and smooth without any greasiness. The first night I used it, I applied it about three times because all of my other moisturizers always felt kind of greasy on, but my skin would absorb them overnight. Then I realized that I didn't need to do that because even though the moisturizer didn't feel greasy on, my skin felt great!! Highly recommend for nighttime use on your face. Working for my rosacea too!! EDIT: Stopped using this moisturizer on my skin, just too much and I think that it started to clog my pores. Still a great lotion for the body though

Fragrances -Sonia Rykiel - Original Perfume

I absolutely love this perfume. It has the sweetness of Angel without the heaviness. It is fruitier with notes of pineapple (my favorite) and mango or something like that. I always get compliments when I wear it from both men and women. My husband's boss's wife even asked me what I was wearing and buying some for herself.

Foundations -Shiseido - The Makeup Cream Foundation
daz4 12/26/2003 4:48:00 PM
This foundation in o20 is my absolute HOLY GRAIL!! It provides coverage for my rosacea redness, but is not heavy looking. My mom asked me the other day what I was doing to my skin because it looked so great without foundation on. She couldn't even tell that I had it on. I am going to check out the ivory (i) shades for winter as the o20 is getting a bit dark for me. Great foundation and will use this forever!! UPDATE: Tried the i00 and the very light ivory is pinker and lighter, so it is not working. Have been using px virtual youth too and it is equally fabulous with more color selections (champagne is great!!). Will keep rotating between the two foundations.

Eyeliner -Bobbi Brown - Gel Eyeliner
daz4 10/29/2003 10:37:00 AM
BB gel liners are my Holy Grail!! They are the only liner that lasts all day on me (no more raccoon eyes here!!). The colors are nice. I have violet, sepia and black and can't wait to get hunter and cobalt. Violet is my least favorite just because it doesn't show up as well on me as the other two!! I will NEVER buy another brand of eyeliner again!!

Cleansers -Purpose - Moisturizing Foaming Cleanser
daz4 11/6/2002 5:39:00 PM
This cleanser is fabulous. I have rosacea and have a horrible time finding a cleanser that actually cleans without overdrying my sensitive skin. This cleanser does it all. I rotate between this and my OoO daily facials for sensitive skin and am happier than I've been with my skincare in a long time. This is even cheaper than the wonderful PC skin recovery cleanser and no shipping costs!! EDIT: had to pass this cleanser to my husband. Suddenly it was just getting too drying for my rosacea. Using a prescription cleanser now, but my husband still loves this cleanser, but unfortunately it's now discontinued.

Gels/Soaps -Aveeno - Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Creamy Wash
daz4 9/22/2002 10:25:00 PM
I read about this cleanser on one of the rosacea support boards. It is kind of tough to find in the stores, but it is by far the gentlest cleanser that is fragrance free, removes all of my makeup and best of all it's inexpensive. I bought three extra bottles when it was on sale the last time. Will continue to repurchase again and again!! A holy grail!!! EDIT: This is now discontinued. Was using this, but now using a prescription cleanser as my rosacea was worsening. Will still use Aveeno skin replenishing cleansing lotion whenever my prescription cleanser seems too much.

Liquid -LORAC - Oil-free foundation
daz4 8/28/2002 1:29:00 PM
This foundation is great for my sensitive skin. I know that I have read that some people don't like the sheer coverage, but I have rosacea and it covers enough for me without making it obvious that I am wearing makeup. It looks like good natural skin. It hasn't irritated it one bit. The colors are nice and yellow and it lasts. I had it on for about 15 hours yesterday and it lasted like a dream!! No red skin afterwards either. UPDATE: This just isn't working for me. My skin is drier now and the foundation just increases the dryness. Will have to try the moisturizing formula.

Liquid -Laura Mercier - moisturizing foundation
daz4 8/21/2002 11:34:00 AM
I have tried the oil free in the past and I think it caused breakouts, but has a great finish for photography (wore it for my wedding). With my skin suffering from rosacea, the oil free is far too oil absorbing for my skin, so I tried the moisturizing. This stuff is great. Very blendable (not as thick as the oil free), light feeling on and just moisturizing enough to keep my skin happy all day. Vanilla beige also has enough yellow to even out my skin tone. Great foundation!! UPDATE: Not so great for me. I know that others love it, but the colors just don't work for me and I don't like the feel of it as I wear it. Again, I think that this foundation is breaking me out. At least I don't get the cyst deep under the skin type of blemishes that I do with the oil free.

Moisturizers -Laura Mercier - Mega-Moisturizing cream with SPF 15
daz4 8/6/2002 11:20:00 AM
This cream is incredible!!! I have rosacea, so I have a terrible time finding skincare that moisturizes my extrememly sensitive skin enough without clogging my pores and irritating my rosacea. I think that I have tried almost every cream and lotion on the market (except la mer) and I can safely say this is the BEST out there. It has sunscreen with both UVA and UVB. The sunscreen ingredient is butyl methyl.... which is another name for avonbenzone (UVA) and octyl methylcinnimate (UVB). Full protection, absorbs quickly, not heavy at all, safe for sensitive skin and two of my other friends loved it when they forgot their moisturizers, so good for all except the oiliest of skins. I can't say a bad thing about it except that it's a bit expensive (2 oz for $38). But with rosacea I'm willing to pay that if it works!!!

Lipstick -MAC - Lustre Lipstick in Spice It Up
daz4 7/31/2002 10:22:00 PM
Spice it up is a gorgeous red brown with just a hint of berry to keep it in the deep red family. The great thing about it is that because it's sheer, it isn't loud or too bright. I line with Mahogany which brings out even more of the red color. Fabulous product and great color for those of us who are warmer or don't prefer pink lipsticks. I will have to look at polished up and see sheer on my next trip.

Powder -MAC - Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation
daz4 7/9/2002 9:47:00 AM
I tried to love studio fix as I really do like the other mac foundations (matte and full coverage) and there is a great color match. There are several problems with this foundation though. I find it very powdery looking. Doesn't meld with your skin at all, just sits on top. Also, the color changes as you wear it. Probably a good foundation for those whose skin is not oily at all, but on my conbination skin, it cakes and turns orangy. Would not buy again. Also suspect it is breaking me out.

Crème -MAC - Full Coverage Foundation
daz4 7/9/2002 9:44:00 AM
Great foundation for photography. I wouldn't rec this as an everyday foundation though because even though you can adjust the coverage from full to sheer coverage just be blending more or less, it's just too creamy and heavy for everyday. Perfect for weddings and other Kodak moments.

Liquid -MAC - Matte Foundation
daz4 7/9/2002 9:42:00 AM
This foundation although great for really hot and humid days (holds up really well even in 90 degrees) is far too oil absorbing for my skin. The coverage is GREAT and the color choices are FABULOUS, but the formula isn't for me. If you have normal/oily or oily skin then try this. If you are sensitive, dry, normal/dry or possibly even combination, try something else.

Liquid -Lancome - Maqui-Libre [DISCONTINUED]
daz4 7/9/2002 9:40:00 AM
Great smooth foundation with lighter coverage. It doesn't irritate my rosacea as the previous poster also said. The only problem is that the warm toned color selection is lacking in this foundation. Would buy this again. UPDATE: Great foundation, but looked in the rear view mirror of my car and couldn't stand the pinkness of the foundation. Went back to the counter and they couldn't find me a color match that was yellow enough. TERRIBLE color selection except for truly pink based skins. If they add more colors, will buy again, but not with the limited colors they have now.
