Polishes -Wet 'n' Wild - Spoiled
curlycolor 8/25/2012 9:18:00 PM
I just tried to apply my first Spoiled polish, "I Don't Drink Cheap Wine." All I can say is, the person who designed the brush must have been drinking Thunderbird at the time. It's not a brush, it's a FEATHER DUSTER. Horrible and useless.

Polishes -Unlisted Brand - Confetti - My Favorite Martian

I love green, and I'm naturally attracted to all shades of green polish. For some reason, this shade screams "frog" to me---but I mean that in a good way, LOL! It's an interesting green that brings nature to mind, with shimmery gold microglitter. But it is very sheer. I'm in the process of applying it right now, and to get the look that's in the bottle, I can tell I'm going to need a fourth coat.

Polishes -Milani - Hot Orchid
curlycolor 8/12/2012 8:26:00 PM
I think this must be one of the more overlooked Milani polishes, but it deserves more love. The pic at the heading looks like a hot pink, but it's not that. Hot Orchid is a metallic, verrrry coooool pink. There's nothing warm about it. Two coats gives you a rich mauvey shade with sort of a silvery cast. I'm wearing it now.....love it.

Eye Shadow -Revlon - ColorStay 16 Hour Eye Shadow
curlycolor 8/12/2012 8:18:00 PM
As usual, something wasn't broke, but some idiot got a bright idea and thought he had to fix it anyway. Revlon's old quads were wonderful; the color was creamy and pigmented and the payoff was great. These new ones are pretty sorry. My go-to day quad was the old Nude Elements because of the perfect cool matte taupe shade it had. Now, the old quads feature mostly warmer browns and taupes. Also, LISTEN UP, REVLON! What happened to matte shadows? I am 49 years old and I don't want fairy dust on my freaking eyelids! GRRRRRRR

Polishes -Milani - Hipster Plum
curlycolor 8/6/2012 4:59:00 PM
I love my Milani polishes, and this color is absolutely gorgeous. It's a deep, dark, dramatic eggplant purple---almost black----which looks great on my fair skin. I'm sick of summer and ready for beautiful rich fall colors, so I guess I'm rushing the season a bit with this shade (though strangely, it was in Milani's spring collection). Also, I've been wearing it for ten days with no chipping.

Eye Shadow -Wet 'n' Wild - Color Icon #252B Nutty
curlycolor 8/3/2012 5:30:00 PM
Love the application of this shadow; it goes on like silk and blends so easily. Great color payoff. But, Wet 'n' Wild, is it too much to ask for you to add some cool-toned neutrals to your collection? You have a lot of warm tones, and Nutty is definitely warm. Come on, give us a couple of cool, grayish taupes to balance things out.

Mascara -Jordana - Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara
curlycolor 8/3/2012 5:26:00 PM
This one ended in up the garbage can. I tried to make it work, I really did. I bought into the MUA hype about how miraculous it is, and though the folks here are generally right on the mark, not so in this case. Appiication and formula were just all right, but the deal breaker was the horrible black smudges. I had the worst raccoon eyes you can imagine.

Fragrances -Bath and Body Works - Twilight Woods
curlycolor 8/3/2012 5:22:00 PM
I don't know what it is about this fragrance, but it has me hooked. I'm one who normally can't stand sweet/fruity/vanilla scents, and when I went to try a spritz of Twilight Woods, I expected something cleaner and more woodsy. But I just cannot stop sniffing myself when I have it on. I'm addicted to it. I even spray it on at night, and put some on my pillow. Every time I smell it, I'm reminded of chilly autumn and winter twilights, being out on a long walk as the sun is going down behind the leafless trees, and coming home to a warm house. When you wear this, you want to snuggle.

Hair Color -Clairol - Nice 'n Easy - Root Touch Up
curlycolor 5/28/2012 8:19:00 PM
I've been using this product since it came out, with excellent results. All I can say is, it does what it's supposed to do. I have dark hair, and my grays are wiry and WHITE and very hard to cover, but this stuff works. The color lasts a long time for me because I have curly hair, and I shampoo only once every 4-5 days, using conditioner to co-wash the rest of the time. And it's always cheap to buy. The coupon inserts that come with the Sunday papers constantly have coupons----last time, five bucks off two boxes. I use them when it goes on sale at Target, and with my CVS Extrabucks, and sometimes pay two or three bucks for a couple of boxes. I'm taking off one lippie, though, because of two things. One, there really isn't much product; Clairol needs to increase the amount a bit. Also, the gloves that come with the box are HUGE. They'd fit a Sasquatch, and actually fall right off my hands. I have to use my own.

Eye Shadow -Sonia Kashuk - Diamond Life Eye Shadow Duo (20)
curlycolor 5/22/2012 5:41:00 PM
I really wanted to love this duo. I'm on the lookout for the perfect cool taupe matte shadow, and this seemed like a winner. I love the packaging; the magnetic closure is really convenient, and the white color looks clean. BUT......the product itself is just so low-pigmented. I have to scrub and scrub with my shadow brush to get color loaded on. I apply it, and it's almost invisible, so I have to keep scrubbing and applying....over....and over...and over. By the time I'm done, there's taupe-colored powder all over the counter. Also, once I finally have enough product on my lids, it's really hard to blend. Sonia Kashuk needs to up the quality/pigmentation of this one. I won't purchase again. I went to the next aisle over in Target and found Boots No. 7 Stay Perfect eyeshadow palette in Good Earth.....it's much better, much more pigmented and easy to blend, than Diamond Life.

Absolutely skunkish. Will coat your throat and your sinuses and make you gag until you can get it off your skin. Run far, far away.

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Lemon Juice
curlycolor 4/23/2012 11:36:00 AM
This is an addition to a previous post in which I sang the praises of lemon juice as a clarifier for hair. Now for what it can do for skin. I admit I thought the claims of lemon juice getting rid of acne like magic were hyped. But for days I have had an UGLY, nasty pimple next to my nose. So what the heck, after reading the reviews here, I washed my face last night, and swabbed on some lemon juice with a cotton ball. Yes, it stung a bit, but no big deal. When I got up this morning, that pimple was almost completely dried up and gone. I've used more LJ today and it's practically history. I'm convinced!

Liquid -Revlon - Age Defying with DNA Advantage Cream Makeup
curlycolor 4/14/2012 7:13:00 PM
Ugh. This foundation lay on my skin like mud-----thick, sludgy, and greasy. You SURE don't need a moisturizer under this one. The only shade that worked for me was too yellow (I'm fair/pink), so I looked unhealthy. Back to Age Defying, my good old standby.

Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - EXTRA VIRGIN Coconut Oil (All brands)
curlycolor 4/14/2012 12:13:00 PM
This is an update on an earlier, positive review. I still use coconut oil as my HG intense hair treatment, and as a supplement to my conditioner. It's heaven-sent for my thick, wiry, long, extremely curly hair. But I've found other uses. My husband has seborrheic dermatitis on his forehead sometimes; it's a peeling of the skin, with an itchy rash. Coconut oil fades the rash, smoothes the peeling, and eases the itch. I've found that coconut oil is an excellent makeup remover. And for cooking, it has a very high smoke point, which means it won't burn like olive oil, but is still healthy for you. I have to correct a misconception put forth in someone else's review. It is NOT, repeat, NOT TRUE that high temperatures make coconut oil into a trans-fat. That is chemically impossible. Trans-fats are also called hydrogenated fats, and they are made in a lab by adding hydrogen. That is the only way they are made. High temps can't do it. So go ahead and cook with coconut oil when you need an oil that won't burn; it's safe.

Conditioner -TRESemme - Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner
curlycolor 2/28/2012 5:56:00 PM
UPDATE: I've been using this one for a while now and I'm still very pleased---I'm going to stick with it. BUT-------for my thick, coarse, dried-out, curly hair, the consistency is thinner and more runny than other conditioners I've used. Alone, it doesn't weigh my hair down enough, and it ends up too poofy. So I have to enrich it, and I do that with coconut oil. After the Tresemme is in my hair, I melt some coconut oil between my palms and smooth it into my hair, basically adding it to the Tresemme and making it heavier and richer. Leave it in during my shower, rinse out, and then use Tresemme as my leave-in. Result---perfect!
