Pressed Powders -Sephora - all over skin pressed powder
rated 4 of 5

I bought this as I have tried Sephora's mineral compact powder which, in my opinion, is a fantastic powder. I have this in D25 which is a perfect match to my NC25 skin. I went home with this and tried it the very next day. Upon opening the product, I was greeted with an over powering old school powder smell which smells really really bad to me. I feel like grandma... anyways, as I use this as a touch up powder when I am outside, I tried to locate the mirror and sponge, twisted, flipping, you name it, I have done it. I couldn't find it!!! Then I realized, it DOES NOT come with any sponge or mirror .. OH MY GOD, Sephora! How can you be so cheap!!! Back to the product, I applied this with a flat top dense brush from sephora and I was pleasantly surprised by how the powder melts into my skin and not sitting on it like other face powders. It was able to give me a really freshly made up look and there's a wee bit of coverage, which is sufficient for touch ups. I will definitely buy this again due to the fact that no other powders are good enough to melt into my skin during touch ups and I shall tolerate the stinky scent and lousy packaging of this product.

Powder -MAC - Studio Perfect Compact Foundation

I have this in NC25 and the color matches my skin tone perfectly, as with all other MAC products. Am getting a bit lazy these days and didn't want to use drugstore brands. So I tried this on my hands and it looked pretty ok. When I brought it home to use it the next day on top of my MUFE green primer and was not too happy with it. The coverage just wasn't there and the it appeared to be chalky and it just sits on top of my skin. The following day, I applied it over my liquid foundation, hoping that it would work, it fared a wee bit better but didn't really melt into my skin. I still look made up and a little bit chalky. It comes in a standard black case where you have to flip up the powder to get to the sponge. Nothing to shout about but at least, it was sturdy. This is retailing at over S$70.00 which is quite hefty as compared to drugstore powders which may fare better. I will not be buying this powder after I'm done with it as it is just not there yet. My ZA powder fared much better than this.

Pressed Powders -Lancome - Maqui blanc miracle
rated 3 of 5

I got this as a birthday gift and am using O-03. Initially when I applied the powder on my hand, it felt smooth, buttery and luxurious almost like Dior's powders which are known for being silky smooth. However, I am sad to say that its a whole different story when applied to my face. On the first day, I tried using their sponge which is a very weird sponge. Its 2 sided and you are supposed to the apply using the regular side for application and the velvet side for buffing. I did as instructed, guess what, the powder became instantly patchy on my face. Some parts had powder while others don't. I looked horrendous that I had to remove all of it and start all over again with my ZA 2 way cake. I thought maybe my moisturizers had not been absorbed well enough, so the next day, I waited a good half an hour before I apply this on. Its still the same! A patchy mess.. I finally decided that the sponge may be the problem so I used my ZA 2 way cake sponge on this and it looked much better. Patchiness is still a problem but not as prominent as before. The redeeming factor for this product is its ability to stay un-oxidized throughout the day, I live in Singapore where the weather is hot, humid and just disgusting. But the color of this powder stays true throughout my 9 hours outside. Oil control isn't impressive, and when I start to oil the powder slides off like glaciers parts of it here parts of it there.. not a pretty sight. I wasn't able to touch up with this either. So if you have flawless and problem free skin, you can definitely give this product a shot as it gives you a beautiful looking complexion with glow. I know this because I have a co worker who has beautiful skin and she look even better with this.

Eye Makeup Remover -Laneige - Lip & Eye Makeup Cleanser Waterproof
rated 4 of 5
christineneogoh 12/15/2011 7:42:00 PM

This product is not very oily as compared with L'oreal or Lancome's waterproof eye makeup removers. However, I am happy to declare that it works better than both Lancome and L'oreal. It is able to remove my very stubborn dejavu mascara effortlessly and doesn't leave an oily residue or film in or on my eyes at all. Having said that, I would hope that they redesign the bottle as it would be good if we don't have to screw open the cap to pour out the contents.

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Falsies
rated 4 of 5
christineneogoh 12/15/2011 7:37:00 PM

I bought this (the smudge proof version) during my trip to Hong Kong. I thought it may ne similar to my all time favorite, Deja Vu Fiberwig. When I got back I read about all the bad reviews and was like "sigh, another bad product". However, i decided to brave all odds and give it a shot and I was glad I did. The brush is curved in shape and is slightly springy. I curl my lashes and applied my Kate Mascara base prior to applying this mascara. I read that there will be clumps however, I did not experience any of that at all. I comb through my mascara base first, then with every coat of the mascara, I gave my lashes a comb through as well. There was no clumping and application was a breeze. Even though its a smudge proof formula, the "smudge proof" capability is commendable! I have not had smudging of any sort throughout my entire day (9 am to 6.30pm). But I did notice some fibers on my face, but it was negligible. So I am not bothered. This product claims to give you the false eyelash effect and I am glad to say that it really does do with it claims for me. It voluminizes and lengthens and everyone thought that I had eyelash extensions. The only gripe that I have for this mascara, is that it is rather dry and not as glossy as dejavu but looking at the price that I am paying for dejavu, this can definitely be considered a dupe and I will buy it again as it really lengthens and volumizes my lashes.

Primer/ Corrector -Make Up For Ever - HD Microperfecting Primer in 1 Green
rated 4 of 5
christineneogoh 12/8/2011 6:35:00 AM

I was undecided between this and the Smashbox's primer in green. I went to the nearest Sephora and asked for a sample of this. I didn't ask for a sample of the Smashbox primer because the lousy Sales Assistant gave me a dirty look. Though turned off with the Sales Assistant's lousy attitude, I was glad that I managed to try this one out. Upon application of this primer, I noted that it goes on light and translucent. The green in this product is not opaque and blends into the skin. I thought to myself, thank goodness I didn't buy it. But I was wrong, little did I expect myself to run to the store the very next day to buy the full sized bottle. After application, I waited a few minutes for it to settle into my skin before I apply my Dior 4x control powder. The powder melted into my skin and covered all the redness which the powder didn't had the ability to on its own. A few hours on, my makeup still remained fresh and nice despite the oiliness on my face. I tried it with my MAC pro longwear liquid foundation and Clinique's Superfit over the next few days, it didn't perform so well with liquid foundation however, I noted that the makeup stayed on longer than usual. I would definitely repurchase this product!

Powder -Christian Dior - DiorSkin x4 Control Pore Refining Compact
rated 3 of 5
christineneogoh 12/5/2011 7:10:00 AM

I bought this in 021. It's a tad light for my NC 25 skin. However, throughout the day, it oxidizes to become my actual skin color. Upon application, the powder seemed to float on my nose but adheres very well to the other areas of my skin. It covers the pores on my cheeks well and the skin around that area appears to be smooth and nice. On its own wIthout any makeup base, it doesn't adhere to my skin and was unable to cover any redness or scars. The powder when felt with my fingers was buttery smooth but when it touches my skin it, I feel that my ZA / SANA powder feels much smoother. Oil control wise, I do not see any significant difference. I still need to blot 2x a day. Not too impressive in my opinion. Despite the mediocre performance of the product, I still love the casing that this powder comes in. Silver colored Dior wordings embossed on a classic blue case. The case Has the surface area of a credit card and about an inch thick. I do not like the accompanying sponge as I feel that it doesn't spread the powder evenly. Having given my two cents worth, I will not be buying this again.

Cleansers -Laneige - Oil free cleansing liquid
rated 4 of 5
christineneogoh 10/31/2011 10:49:00 AM

I bought this because my beautician told me that my cleansing water was causing all the whiteheads on my chin. I have had bad experience with cleansing oils and I chanced upon this during my regular facial products shopping spree. The product says its oil free and for sensitive skin so I decided to give it a shot. Boy, am I glad that I did. This comes in a pump bottle and is the fragrance and oil free. 1 pump is all it takes to dissolve your makeup. The best part about it is that after 1 week of use, the pesky whiteheads are gone!!! And no adverse reaction whatsoever!! I will continue to buy this as its affordable and cleanses really well.

Powder -Sephora - Matifying Powder Foundation
rated 4 of 5
christineneogoh 10/28/2011 1:09:00 AM

I'm using D20 for my NC25 skin and its a perfect match! I do not use this as a foundation as the coverage is just not there. If you're looking for more coverage, you would be better off with the Mineral version. My first thought about this powder, why doesn't it come with a sponge? How am I supposed to apply it without a sponge!! Then I realized that it probably wouldn't work well with one. Anyway, I used this as a touch up / finishing powder which is good for mattifying your skin during mid day and using it with a big fluffy brush helps it to adhere to your skin. The powder's texture isn't smooth like Lancome or Dior, but it covers and adheres pretty well. Lasts about 3hrs before the sebum starts to show but this is because I have very oily skin. So, if you have normal skin, this would probably work very well for you. The only gripe I have about this is the smell. I hate it! It has a very old school powdery floral scent which is kind of a turn off for me. Other than that this is a pretty good buy. Retailing in Singapore at SGD23.00

Powder -Sephora - Mineral Double Compact Foundation SPF 10
rated 4 of 5
christineneogoh 10/10/2011 8:51:00 PM

I bought this in D25 and it matches my NC25 skintone perfectly. I have severely discolored skin with a lot of redness and acne scars, this is by far the only powder or foundation that can cover everything without looking thick! I didn't need to use any liquid foundation / concealer beneath it! So much so that I even skip my eye concealer! When I tried applying this with a kabuki brush, it sorta emphasized too much on my pores so I use a flocked sponge for application. The drawback about this powder for me is that I am unable to touch it up during midday. When I blot my face, and try to touch up with a brush or sponge, it became patchy. The other thing I don't like about this is the packaging, if they really have to design it with the flap, they should've placed the powder at the bottom and have the sponge on the top. Anyways, before I find anything else that has this kind of coverage, I will repurchase.

Moisturizers -Laneige - Power Essential Balancing Emulsion - Light
rated 5 of 5
christineneogoh 10/6/2011 7:43:00 AM

I've been having some skin issues recently and nothing works for me and while I was using my usual skincare, it seem to aggravate my acne condition. So I decided to go back to basics and this is it. I bought this together with the refiner (toner) and the first thing I noticed is that Laneige has reverted back to its original scent which, is a really smart move. When they changed the scent of their products a few years back, I got so turned off that I refused to buy them. Anyways, this moisturizer is for normal to oily skin types and upon application my skin feels refreshed, taut and soft. The texture is light and milky, its very easily absorbed and makes my skin feel moisturized well enough and doesn't leave a sticky feeling which is really important in a hot and humid country like Singapore. As I have extremely sensitive skin, I was initially skeptical about this but I am pleasantly surprise. This did not break me out and with the scent, I feel like applying it over and over again! This comes in a beautiful see through blue bottle and it feels sturdy and unbreakable. Overall, I think this product is definitely worth the price of SGD45.00 and I will definitely repurchase.

Liquid -MAC - Pro Longwear Foundation
rated 3 of 5
christineneogoh 10/6/2011 7:26:00 AM

I've been using for almost 2 weeks, I've been having a skin issue recently. My skin is extremely oily yet dry on the surface. This cost approximately SGD58.00 and comes in a nice pump bottle. I noted that the color of this particular foundation is 1 shade darker than the normal series. I am normally an NC25, I bought this in NC20 and it matches perfectly. This product was supposed to "stick" to your skin without it sliding off at the end of the day. However, I haven't seen that happen yet, maybe its the condition of my skin recently. When I'm wearing this, my makeup starts to slide by mid day and with 1 touch up at noon, my makeup still slides to nothingness at the end of the day. I shall continue to use this and monitor its performance as I've read pretty good reviews on it.

Powder -Sana - Powerstyle spf 45
rated 5 of 5
christineneogoh 9/10/2011 10:11:00 PM

I'm an NC25 and I'm using this product in No.2. When using this alone as a foundation, it doesn't really cover too much as I have very red skin. So I use it on top of my super fit foundation. Most powders immediately separates or floats on application, not for this one. This sana powder glides on my skin and sinks in immediately! It made me look like i have naturally good skin! I've repurchased at least 5 times and will keep going back to it!

Eyes -Make Up For Ever - EYE SEAL - Waterproof Liquid Converter
rated 4 of 5
christineneogoh 6/14/2011 8:52:00 PM

I went ahead to get this from Sephora after reading all the good reviews here. It costs me SGD45.00 for this little bottle. I bought this with the intention to waterproof / smudgeproof my MAC technakohl. I followed the instructions which was to apply my eyeliner as I normally would, then apply the Eye Seal over it. This didn't work as it kinda split opened my eyeliner, I tried patting it on, didn't work either. I was on the verge of giving up but decided to try it on a cake eyeliner. Initially it didn't work either, I dabbed a little eye seal on the brush before trying to pick up some color from the cake eyeliner. Effect: The line was very faint but waterproof. I couldn't do anything to it to intensify the color at all. The second day, I tried another method, which was to dab the brush with eye seal then circle the brush in the cake eyeliner mixing it and VOILA! intense lines which are smudgeproof and waterproof! I'm loving it eversince, I am using this to tightline my eyes as well. This is definitely not possible with other waterproof liquid liners which will smudge within 30mins. After I am done with this bottle, I may purchase the I Nuovi Fix It to try as its only half the price. I am still unable to use this with kohl eyeliners without having the line splitting, so was wondering if anyone can help me out here!
