I received this in a swap and was pleasantly surprised. Norturenelle is a pigmented purple that is versatile either as a liner or on the lid/crease for a purple smokey eye. The shimmers don't really show up but the colour doesn't look flat either. This would be a great addition to a four-pan palette.
Mascara -Lancome - Definicils Pro (High Definition Curved Brush Mascara)
banana_008 1/2/2009 11:07:00 PM
I only tried a GWP size of this mascara so I don't know if this qualifies me to write a review, but all I can say about Definicils is: BORING.. too natural looking for the price in my opinion. If you have really blonde lashes and are looking for that defined yet natural look this might be for you. But my lashes are already fairly dark and I prefer a fuller look if I am going to bother applying mascara.
This cleanser really deserves a 3.5 rating. I purchase this to keep in the shower to gently wash my face in the mornings because it is so gentle especially in the winter when my skin is dryer. But this really sucks at removing any sort of makeup. I use Avene gel cleanser for normal-combination for that.
Fragrances -Comptoir Sud Pacifique - Amour de Cacao
banana_008 12/20/2008 12:10:00 AM
This fragrance kind of reminds me of those low-fat chocolate wafer cookies. It's nice but I prefer more complex chocolate scents like Aquolina Chocolovers. I bought Amour de Cacao on clearance at my local drugstore and don't feel it is worth its full retail price.
I would have never thought of buying Zen for myself if it weren't for recommendations from the Makeup board. Judging by the pan it looks like it's only for pale people but I have medium-tan olive skin and this works wonderfully on me. This is the perfect blush for red lips. This is also my go to blush for when my skin is acting out and I don't want anything drawing too much attention to my breakouts.
Guerlain Meteorites is the one product I dreamt of owning as a teenager browsing through fashion magazines. I finally fulfilled my fantasy when I purchased the mini set from a duty free shop. The mini set is definately a better value than the full sized version but it's still expensive in my opinion. Out of the set my favourite is the pink one. It adds a subtle hint of freshness to my sometimes sallow yellow-toned skin. Mythic is nice but can sometimes make me look pale depending on what makeup I wear underneath. Beige Chic is my least favourite out of the set. It just doesn't do anthing for me but I still wear it with bronze makeup looks. I use these as a finishing powder, when I want something a bit softer and more luminous then regular translucent powder. These are fun and cute on my vanity table but I don't think I'd buy again.
Hair -Dove - Intense Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner
banana_008 12/19/2008 11:40:00 PM
I also bought the large pump bottles at Costco not really expecting much but I have been using this daily for many months now and am not sick of it yet. I have naturally coarse, wavy hair and lots of it. Dove seems to make it feel softer and adds some slip to it without making it look greasy with sillicones. I also love the smell as it is soapy and not perfumey like other hair products. Before this I was using Matrix Sleek Look, which I also like but is significantly more expensive. So I do see myself purchasing this shampoo again, especially when I'm looking to cut back on beauty related costs.
Lipstick -MAC - Lustre - Honeyflower [DISCONTINUED]
banana_008 9/24/2008 9:35:00 PM
This looked nice in the store but was a total dud once I tried to wear it at home. Really brown-orange on me, not the nice soft peach that others experienced. Also I found the texture of this lipstick was thicker and drier than I would like.
This is exactly what I wanted MAC 'O' to be like. Viva Glam VI is a sheer warm berry that can be made more red or more plum or rose depending on how you wear it. It looks great on it's own, with liner and with gloss. It's definately warm though, so I do have to be careful what blush I pair it with. Plumfoolery is a good match but so are NARS Outlaw, Oasis, and Lovejoy. This lustre lipstick also has a much smoother texture than most. This is now my favourite product out of the Viva Glam line.
This is another Nars blush I have troubles with sometimes. It's a little dark. I have medium-dark skin with yellow undertones but I don't really have a natural flush. I wear a blush everyday but I think I look better in lighter blush colours. I still like Torrid but more so when I am tan or over bronzer. It can make me look sallow in the winter.
I like Outlaw but it's one of the trickier NARS blushes for me to wear. Because I have yellow undertones to my skin Outlaw can look garish on me if I don't balance it out with the rest of my makeup. Outlaw looks best on me over bronzer, and a soft rosy lip like Eros lip lacquer. I'd probably give this one a 3.5 if I could. It's worth having for a different blush look but I don't think I'd repurchase.
such a dull, unflaterring brown on me but I do like the formula and will try this product in other colours. it feels light and cushiony on but not too shiny. no taste despite the fruity name of the colours.
Gels/Soaps -Avon - Naturals - Strawberry & Guava bath products
banana_008 5/15/2008 9:49:00 PM
I've tried the body wash and it's a really yummy candy-like scent similar to The Body Shop strawberry. This is only worth buying on sale as it comes in such a tiny bottle. I would buy again when it is $3-4 range.
Liquid -Clinique - Superfit Foundation [DISCONTINUED]
banana_008 4/20/2008 9:19:00 AM
This is (so far) my favourite foundation. I bought it about a year ago for my wedding, and this is Clinique's "photofriendly" foundation. Not only did it photograph well but I found the formula to be very wearable and long-lasting so it is now my everyday foundation, except maybe for weekends. but be careful in choosing a moisturizer or primer, anything too thick and oily might make the foundation pool or smear.
This is a great eyelash curler but it's a real pain trying to get replacement pads. I had to use the spare one after 6 months because I was squeezing the curler too hard. Now I need to find new pads and every counter I got is sold out of them. Plus they cost $5. The curler itself costs $16! Oh well I use this thing almost everyday so I will get a second one eventually. I'll just have to make sure not to squeeze dents into the pads.
