well this was good for a giggle. The sales girl tried to push this on me becuse I was "looking pale" - I always look pale, that's just me. Anyways, she put this on my cheeks and I found I looked quite ridiculous. Like a doll, with those pink blotches you see on puppets! I think she wasn't too good at applying it, but the colour was way way wrong. I realised later it's because I have a warmer/olivy complexion that looks cool because I'm so pale, and pinky blue tones look oh so wrong!

Mascara -Maybelline - Full 'N Soft Mascara

Well I've finally found a mascara that does what I want it to do! It thickens my lashes enough to be subtle for day time, and if layered, makes them emphatic for evening. It lengthens but not that nasty spidery effect. slight smudginess above my eye but that's cos I'm just clumsy. They don't get clogged and clumped, and it stays put. Also gves my lashes a bit of curl, which is a nice added bonus. And it's cheap too! Hurrah! UPDATE!!! After about two months of use this now irritates my eyes. Short life span demotes to four lippies

Masks -Unlisted Brand - Aspirin Mask
rated 2 of 5

I hate to be the only voice of dissent, but i suppose that's why we're here! I tried this a couple of times and I have to say my skin showed no improvement at all. I mixed some crushed aspirin with some water and put it on my face for ten minutes and then used it as a scrub afterwards (it's quite a grainy consistency). The appearance of my skin did not change at all, and i found the mask to be a bit too drying. I have regular breakouts, some bad some mild and some fine lines on my forehead. All in all, no change happened. Later i decided to try it by just applying the mask to my actual spots ut all it did was make them flaky and so harder to disguise with foundation/concealer. Hmph.

Scrubs -Biotherm - Biosource Clarifying Exfoliating Gel

very good scrub for combi skin. it smells lovely for starters, and has a good texture. It has the consistency of fine sand, without really sharp bits in it. The formula doesn't dry out sensitive bits and is fresh enough for oily areas. Scrubbing effect is great, and a little goes a long way.

Treatments -Darphin - Overnight Refining Lotion (Desincrustant Lotion)
rated 4 of 5
alicemf 12/10/2003 5:02:00 AM

I have been using this for a week. My skin started going nuts about a month and a half ago and nothing was working to get rid of it. Since using this product my skin has improved in tone, and I have only had one new spot. Success! The results have not been overly spectacular, but I have seen a change in just one week, so hopefully it should continue... I put it on thinly all over my skin apart from my cheeks where my skin is fine, and more thickly on problem areas like my t zone. The only problem is it does make my skin a bit too dry for my liking. It is probably ideal for people with oily skin, rather than combination/confused like mine.

Moisturizers -Nivea - Creme
rated 5 of 5

This is the cheapest item in my whole skincare box, and one of the best. It is quite rich and does have scent but it doesn't irritate my skin. I have combination skin that breaks out regularly. To avoid this I use anti-blemish solutions and other products that are a bit drying. I need something to counteract this(the hazards of combo skin) and nivea is perfect. I don't find it greasy and it makes my skin very smooth, evening out the flaky bits. It doesn't seem to clog my pores, and is excellent for the damp cold grim english winters! bit too rich for summer, but thumbs up all the same

Masks -The Body Shop - Evening Primrose Firming Mask [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
alicemf 11/26/2003 8:31:00 AM

I love this mask, it smells lovely and is perfect for sensitive combo skin like mine. I suffer from breakouts and some lines on my forehead. While this doesn't improve my blemishes enormously, it helps reuce the redness temporarily, and firms up the lines at the same time. It is good for moisturising the dry areas of my skin without making me overproduce oil. The effects are sadly temporary but I never believed anything about actual reversal of wrinkles! All in all this is excellent. The pot is mildly annoying (dunking fingers in, mask gets under nails) but that doesn't bother me unduly. My fave mask of the moment

Masks -Origins - Clear Improvement
rated 2 of 5
alicemf 11/17/2003 10:59:00 AM

I was not entirely sure what this product was supposed to do. I suffer from small under-the-skin bumps on my forehead and I hoped this would draw them out and unblock the pores around my nose and mouth. Now, the experience was hysterically funny because I scared my flatmate out of her skin because of the black stuff on my face. It dried not too tightly so that was ok, was a bugger to wash off and made the bathroom all black. And it didn't really do anything. My skin felt nice an clean and smooth, yes, but the under skin bumps are still there, the blackheads are still there and my skin looks little different. Ho hum. Not a terrible product but not worth buying.

Lip Gloss -Bobbi Brown - Shimmer Lip Gloss - Rose Sugar
rated 3 of 5
alicemf 11/13/2003 10:05:00 AM

Good points: perfect colour, gorgeously glossy, stays put, tastes nice Bad points: expensive, VERY sticky (sticks to hair, bits of fluff from my scarf, boyfriend's cheeks, glasses and mugs), rubbish packaging (silly little brush thing) Not worth it for me I'm afraid, I'm dying to find a cheaper, less sticky alternative!

Lip Gloss -Boots - 17 Plump up the Volume Lipgloss "In the Nude"

same as below really. My favouritest thing about this lipgloss is it is NOT STICKY. I hate sticky lipgloss and this is perfect. Glossy colour, like a beige-y version of Rose Sugar, very cheap, no taste and large tube so lasts ok.

Liquid -The Body Shop - Oil-Free foundation
rated 5 of 5
alicemf 11/7/2003 10:06:00 AM

I really like this! My skin is more combi than oily, admittedly, but this comes in a good range of colours as I found most low end foundations too pinky based for me. I have shade 6 which is a yellow based LLL shade and it's pretty much my perfect match. It blends well and doesn't make me oily or feel too tight. To make it more sheer I mix with moisturiser, for more coverage I use a concealer.

this is lovely, wonderful, amazing, etc etc etc BUT it costs an absolute fortune here in the UK. I'm poor, and I'll stick to my Garnier which ain't quite as nice but is within my budget, and does the job

Skincare - Face -Garnier - Synergie C More than a moisturiser
rated 5 of 5
alicemf 11/4/2003 7:58:00 AM

I love this. It is dirt cheap, it smells gorgeous (citrusy, not too strong, not too sweet, fresh and clean)and makes my skin feel just right. Moisturizes the right amount, keeps oily places fresh and dry areas smooth, it gives skin a bit of a pep too (noticeable compared to other moisturizers i've used). In a word HG!

Moisturizers -Clarins - Moisture Quenching Hydra-Balance Lotion SPF 15
rated 4 of 5
alicemf 11/3/2003 10:10:00 AM

I got this in a large sample as a gift, when it runs out i'll prob buy again. I have slightly sensitive combo skin, and this hydrates just the right amount, absorbs the best of many creams I've used and doesn't turn me shiny. Problem? stinky, smells of old ladies

Treatments -The Body Shop - Vitamin C Supercharged Face Serum
rated 2 of 5
alicemf 10/10/2003 4:55:00 AM

I like this, I was using idealist but was way too expensive! This replaced it well, plus I feel like my skin has some added zing due to the vit C. It doesn't clog my pores, and smoothes my skin tone, making my skin soft and my moisturiser more absorbent. Update 28 Novemeber: stopped using it, too harsh for my skin after a while made it slippy and uncomfortable. demoted from a four lipstick to a two.
