Lip Treatments -Avon - Candy-licious Lip Balm in Cotton Candy
Spanola28 2/9/2005 5:53:00 PM
This is more of a 2.5 IMHO. Don't like Sweet Tart scent or the bluish-lavender pink tint it leaves on your lips. Usual Avon good moisturizing quality. I have this and the Creamsicle flavors so I can't speak for the other two (Licorice and Sour Apple) but I have not been impressed w/ this years V-Day lip balms by Avon.

Lips -Avon - Country Fair Lip Balm in Caramel Apple
Spanola28 2/9/2005 5:51:00 PM
Well I didn't get the Country Fair version, mine has little ghosts and caramel apples on it. Cute. At first I thought this was way too greasy and thin to work for me. However, lately my lips have been severly chapped due to winter weather. I have certain balms that I use whenever that happens but FSR none of those worked this year. Out of desperation I dug out this Avon balm after more than a year of sitting in my car. Wow, something in this balm worked like a charm on my lips! The scent is nice altho I enjoy it more if I apply just a light coat. More than one is really unecessary since it can leave a whitish color on your lips. At $.69, I would buy this scent again but I doubt I will since Avon is always coming up w/ new flavors.

Polishes -OPI - A-Rose At Dawn...Broke by Noon
Spanola28 1/5/2005 11:42:00 PM
Sorry about breaking the winning streak. This just went on a loud, fuschia hot pink color. Frosty but not excessively so. I guess its just a matter of taste, I'm sure those w/ a taste for bright colors will like this but on me it looked too Barbie or middle schooler. Good OPI quality. I prefer Senorita Rose-alita to this.

Blush -MAC - Sheertone Shimmer Blush in Plum Foolery
Spanola28 12/20/2004 1:15:00 PM
Love the color just wish it was a bit more pigmented. MAC describes as "faintly plum." It's a soft mauvey plum color, maybe w/ some slight rose tones. I like this a lot, it's just perfect for winter. Unlike other Sheertones (Ambering Rose, Dollymix), you can apply liberally w/ this one. I usually swirl the brush once or twice to get a good amount of color, altho I suppose that might depend on skintone (I'm a C40). Unfortunately, even after applying enough color I notice that this almost always seems to fade after about six hours. I would buy this again, since its more pigmented and flattering on me than NARS Sin (not to mention cheaper). The most flattering plum blush I've found.

Lip Gloss -Bonne Bell - Lip Smacker in Arctic's Candy Cane Cocoa
Spanola28 12/15/2004 11:43:00 AM
My favorite out of the holiday smackers this year. ACC has only a faint whiff of cocoa, it's mostly a creamy peppermint type smell. V. creamy and smooth, luv the lil tube w/ the polar bear. Cute. Doesn't leave any tint, but really softens my lips and I have to stop myself from licking it off. I would buy this again if it came on its own.

Lip Gloss -Bonne Bell - Lip Smacker in Sweet's Cinnamon Ice Cream
Spanola28 12/15/2004 11:39:00 AM
Love the flavor of this one, just wish it didn't irritate my lips as much. SCIC is, as a previous reviewer said, a creamy cinnamon flavor. Unfortunately as it's still cinnamon it has a tendency to irritate and redden my v. sensitive lips. I luv anything cinnamon scented, which is why I probably keep using it. Leaves a nice pinky tint. Unless u love cinnamon flavors, avoid this if u have sensitive lips.

Lip Gloss -Bonne Bell - Lipsmacker - Moose's White Choco Cream (Holiday 04)
Spanola28 12/12/2004 3:32:00 PM
One of my fave holiday smackers this year. Out of the seven that I bought, this is in the top 3. MWCC is such a nice white chocolate scent, v. creamy and sweet. Like most smackers, flavor fades and doesn't have much tint but I would repurchase cuz this makes my lips really soft. Like the packaging, v. cute. I would repurchase but this flavor is only available in a set. :>P

Lips -Bonne Bell - Pink Sugar Cookie Lipsmacker
Spanola28 12/12/2004 3:19:00 PM
I've shown absolutely no resistance to any of the Holiday lipsmackers this year. This, however, is one of my favorites. PSC is bascically clear but it is SO close to how a sugar cookie really smells and tastes. All the indulgence but none of the calories. Goes on great, doesn't irritate my lips like some of the cinnamon/mint lipsmackers can. My SO loves this too, cuz it tastes good, isn't sticky and makes my lips really soft. Love the packaging, with the silver foil and the pink snowflakes. I would buy this again if it wasn't a seasonal flavor.

Fragrances -Bath and Body Works - Holiday Collection Gingerbread Spice Body Splash
Spanola28 12/10/2004 12:43:00 PM
Had a sudden craving for gingerbread and ended up digging this one out after a year of hibernation (this is a 2003 Holiday scent). This is probably the truest Gingerbread scent I have ever smelled. Disregarding the pear note, it smells just like warm, spicy gingerbread. However the pear note is kind of strong and the cinnamon can be a bit much for anybody not used to spicy scents. I didn't really like last yrs packaging, the ornaments were kind of cheesy but it is growing on me. I like this but the pear note almost ruins it for me, makes it way too pungent and crisp. Still hoping for a better gingerbread scent from BBW.

Fragrances -Bath and Body Works - Art Stuff Glitter Splash - Sparklin' Snow (Winter 04)
Spanola28 12/8/2004 5:55:00 PM
I wanted a glitter splash to be able to use in my hair and since none of the usual Art Stuff scents appeal to me, I picked this up. The scent is okay, kinda creamy and sweet but still fresh. I like the packaging, w/ the penguin ice-skating (cute). Still, the glitter barely shows up even on the skin. The upside is that it makes my hair smell really good. Wouldn't buy this again but nice to have.

Lotions/ Creams -Bath and Body Works - Vanilla Bean Noel Body Cream
Spanola28 12/5/2004 8:35:00 PM
Meh, I still think this is pretty overrated. I first smelled VBN about 5 yrs ago, and wasn't too impressed. I usually avoid vanilla scents altogether cuz I find them sickeningly sweet and kind of common. Still, FSR this year I decided to pick it up (prolly cuz I didn't take to the other holiday scents). Not as bad as I remember it being, not excessively sweet but still notceable after several hours. I can smell the plastic-y note that others have but it fades and the vanilla and caramel notes overpower it. This also seems really heavy on the cream note, too, to me this smells just like fresh sweet cream. It can also smell like buttercream. One of the kids I work w/ actually said it smelled "like cotton candy". Good moisturizing quality for my v. dry skin, lasts a good 24 hrs. I do like this years packaging better than last year (w/ those whack ornaments), the kinda retro font and geometric snowflakes. Still, this isn't excessively sweet but still too sweet for me. I'm glad it's only sold 3 mos out of the year, cuz by the time next October rolls around, I'll start developing nostalgia and feel the need to buy it again. Nice for a seasonal scent.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Sumptuous Olive (Veluxe pearl)
Spanola28 12/4/2004 1:41:00 PM
Beautiful color, kinda makes me want a martini :>P S. Olive is described my MAC as "a subdued khaki w/ metallic coat". Probably my favorite out of the VPs. It goes on a pretty muted olive jewel color. I thought for sure this would wash out my C40 complexion but it really complimented my coloring, didn't make me look sallow or anything. Again, the heavy amount of shimmer isn't my cup of tea, I have to make sure the rest of my MU is matte when I use this. I think this would work on anybody. Has a tendency to go on sheer when not used over a CCB. Not as pigmented as other VPs (Freshwater, Plum Dressing). I would buy this again.

Polishes -OPI - La Boheme
Spanola28 12/4/2004 1:30:00 PM
Gorgeous wine-raspberry color. In the bottle, Boheme looks like a blackened red w/ flashes of gold, amber and green. V. glittery. On your nails, however, it goes on more purple-y cranberry red w/ pretty copper tones. The glitter is still noticeable once you put it on. Try as I might, I cannot get the first coat to go on smoothly. But it doesn't really matter since you need at least 3 coats anyways. Usual OPI quality, looks v. glossy. I get so many compliments on this color. I would buy again if I could find it, but it was a LE. I luv this color, perfect for the holidays or anytime you feel like some doomed-love-affair drama.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Freshwater (veluxe pearl)
Spanola28 12/3/2004 4:53:00 PM
Whoa, brighter than I expected. MAC describes Freshwater as an "bright summersky blue" but its a bit darker and more pigmented than that. Closer to Deep Truth, as a previous reviewer said. I wanted a true blue color for a smoky look and Freshwater is a bit too. . .electric for that. It works nicely w/ Deep Truth tho, if you don't mind v. shimmery eyelids. I luv the texture - goes on super smooth and even. Not crazy about the shimmer, which borders on frost. Like the color overall but I doubt I will use this up to buy it again.

Candles -Illuminations - Chestnut
Spanola28 11/23/2004 3:00:00 PM
Brings back memories of buying roasted chestnuts from an outdoor vendor. I was in a festive mood when I decided to pick this up. Can't rave enough about Illuminations candles. Chestnut is such a warm, nutty-sweet scent. I can detect some cinnamon and maybe some vanilla and maple. This and gingerbread are tied for my fave winter scents. V. rich so I only keep it lit for 1.5 hrs at a time. Both my mom and my BFF have asked for me to buy this for them. Lovely woodsy brown color. If you like the Coffee & Cream scent, you'll like this. I would repurchase this, worth the $15 IMHO.
