Smells like spice, woods & leather, along with some sharp/fresh notes. Kind of peaceful and calming, like temple incense, I suppose. As I don't care for notes of spice/incense in a personal fragrance, I wouldn't order a full bottle of this, but wouldn't mind it in candle-form, or as a room freshener for a den, library or man's bedroom.

It does what it says it's going to do, and it's the only lotion I've ever used that didn't leave me with an intense urge to run to the bathroom and rinse it off .

Mostly spices, patchouli and woods, with a few indistinct floral notes tossed in. Freshly applied it has an irritating and unexpected spicy incense aroma. After an hour or so the fragrance calms down to more of a dried floral and wood shavings potpourri type scent. I don't want to smell like incense or potpourri but at least the potpourri is less abrasive and a bit more feminine in character.

A refreshing baby powder scent with a bright note of cherry almond. I love the fragrance but it has very little staying power.

Fragrances -Bath and Body Works - Twilight Woods

I went to B&BW specifically to test this and Black Amethyst. I thought I'd probably love it and hate Black Amethyst -- it turned out just the opposite. This started out smelling like a very wood men's cologne with hints of spice. After a second sniff it was starting to smell like smoke, and by the third sniff it had a definite odor of burning hair. I know there are plenty of lovers of spicy-smoky-woody scents but I was doing those kinds of fragrances years ago and I guess I overdosed--I much prefer a fresher, more delicate personal scent these days.

Treatments -John Frieda - Frizz-Ease Creme Serum Overnight Repair Formula [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
Soie 9/23/2009 3:16:00 PM

Though it's kind of expensive for the amount you get, I hope they never stop making it -- It's been a savior to my dry, frizzy hair (which persists in being quite curly in texture despite the fact it has been chemically relaxed 3 times in the past few months). Using this product as a styling aid/moisturizer, rather than as an overnight treatment, my curls are left soft, glossy and frizz-free.

Conditioner -Finesse - Moisturizing Conditioner
rated 5 of 5

My sister bought a mini shampoo & conditioner travel kit but had no interest in the conditioner and offered it to me. I have plenty of expensive salon brand conditioners but decided to give this a try anyway. So glad I did. My hair is naturally very curly and tends to be dry and bushy -- it expands and gets even bushier while I'm wahing it. However, after leaving this conditioner on my hair for a few minutes and then rinsing, my hair is sleek and well moisturized. And it also dries smoother than usua,l too I've used it twice now, with the same great results. Now I'll just have to scout out a regular-sized bottle as my mini is almost finished.

Fragrances -Fresh - Mangosteen
rated 1 of 5
Soie 8/16/2009 2:11:00 AM

I've had plenty of mangosteen and several other types of "exotic" fruit courtesy of several Chinatown fruit markets . Got to say, there is no mango flavor, appearance or aroma in mangosteen; it's just a name. Bad mangosteen lacks sweetness and tastes like flat beer to me, while a good mangosteen tastes like a blend of peaches & strawberries with a hint of vanilla ice cream. This fragrance doesn't SMELL the way a good mangosteen TASTES, but it is reminiscent IMO of the scent of the fruit, especially after the initial bright, fruity blast calms down. The problem is, I prefer the initial fruity blast which smells of citrus zest, fresh peach juice and clean florals. That, however, only lasts a few minutes before the fragrance begins to smell a bit like stale beer and corn chips.

Other -Unlisted Brand - Febreze Room Freshener Products
rated 4 of 5

I love most Febreze scents, but I especially love the limited edition room spray scent, "Powder & Pamper". This is a feminine fragrance with a note of rich vanilla with a touch of mild jasmine. Perfect for scenting bedrooms and bathrooms. I only wish it lasted longer.

Fragrances -Jean Paul Gaultier - Ma Dame
rated 2 of 5
Soie 4/28/2009 12:53:00 AM

I've read many references to this 'smelling' like neon pink, but I can't say it actually smells like a color (neon, or otherwise) to my nose--though I have smelled scents that do seem to smell like a color (usually either purple or yellow). To my nose this starts out with a warm and aromatic note of tangerine peel, which soon morphs into the scent of neroli blended with a hint of spice (I get pepper, cinnamon & anise undertones). As the neroli grows brighter, the note of anise is amplified, taking on a metallic edge. A hint of powdery almond peeks through, sweetening things up a bit. It is when the notes of rose and cedar finally become detectable that the fragrance takes on an aroma of the cleaning fluids used in public bathrooms. Interesting, but not really something I want to smell like.

Fragrances -Givenchy - Organza First Light
rated 4 of 5
Soie 4/27/2009 10:20:00 PM

A clean, subdued & feminine scent with notes of citrus, florals, vanilla and smooth wood; reminiscent (to my nose) of Adrienne Vittadini, Allure and Intuition. As a matter of fact it is close enough to Adrienne Vittadini (one of my all time favorite fragrances) that I feel I can give up my vigil for the discontinued and hard to find scent.

Fragrances -Lancaster - Covet by Sarah Jessica Parker ] [DISCONTINUED]
rated 1 of 5
Soie 9/7/2008 9:52:00 PM

Just after Lovely came out, I read an interview wherein SJP states her belief that people actually like the smell of their own body odor. Well, that certainly explains Lovely's horrifying undertones of putrefaction and general aroma of sweat on an unwashed body. [Sorry if that offends any fans of the fragrance, but I spritzed some on the front of my nightgown one night and woke up hours later wondering what had crawled inside my chest and died -- the stench was just that horrific!] It also explains the peee-yewww factor of Covet. No, Covet doesn't have the rotting flesh accord of Lovely, but it does have Lovely's (and Narciso Rodrigues') note of "musty armpit". It's not immediately noticeable in Covet but appears after an hour, or so, on the skin. Other than that, Covet is not horrible...it's just not anything worth coveting -- baker's unsweetened chocolate, lavender, greenery & woods. Masculine, funky and a bit dreary.

Lotions/ Creams -Alba Botanica - Original Body Lotion
rated 5 of 5
Soie 4/10/2008 10:04:00 PM

My favorite lotion! I mostly use it on my face and neck before going to bed, and also during the day under my makeup. It leaves my face looking fresh, dewy and smoother than usual without the sticky or coated feeling of most lotions and creams. If I'm still loving it when my big 32 ounce bottle is finished, I'll definitely repurchase.

Fragrances -Caswell-Massey - Egyptian Musk Oil
rated 5 of 5
Soie 4/9/2008 10:55:00 PM

I've tried a few Egyptian Musk variations and nearly all smell like BO (the same sour sweat aroma of Narciso Rodriguez for Her), while others just smelled strange and chemical-like. Caswell-Massey Egyptian Musk Oil is exactly what I've been looking for -- it's mildly sweet, with a hint of soft floral notes, and a warm, CLEAN skin muskiness (no sweat notes at all). Perfect on its own and also layers nicely with my floral fragrance oils. A definite repurchase.

Fragrances -Demeter - Patchouli PMU
rated 5 of 5
Soie 4/8/2008 9:50:00 PM

Strong & pungent, this smells EXACTLY like the patchouli essential oil I've used in the past. I HATE patchouli but I'm giving this 5 lippies because IMO it is a dead on interpretation of the real thing.
