Fragrances -Aquolina - Pink Sugar Sensual
ShellyMum 8/15/2012 1:52:00 AM
Pink Sugar Sensual is almost identical to BS Fantasy (original pink bottle) to my nose. I do find Fantasy a bit stronger in lasting power and sillage. So if you are looking for a slightly lighter version of Fantasy, then Pink Sugar Sensual fits the bill. I have a large bottle of this (found it for $20) and only a miniature size of Fantasy and I find them too close in scent to own both as full size bottles. I will just stick with the Pink Sugar Sensual when I need a hit of sugary, vanilla sweetness!!

Fragrances -Guerlain - Spiritueuse Double Vanille
ShellyMum 8/13/2012 1:53:00 AM
Spiritueuse Double Vanille is a lovely scent (5 lippies for the scent), but the price is astronomical. I know this is Guerlain but I think L de Lolita by Lolita Lempicka smells very, very similar and considering this fact, there is no way I'd pay $200+ dollars for Spiritueuse Double Vanille (hence my 2 lippie rating). Sorry, no full bottle sale for me.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Intimately Yours
ShellyMum 7/13/2012 4:11:00 AM
Intimately Yours is in a gold box and square bottle with a golden lid. It is different to Intimately (pink) and Intimately Night (dark purple). I find this scent to be very warm and enticing. If I had to choose something similar to compare it to, I'd say it's quite similar to D & G The One. It's kind of golden and warm and I would possibly prefer to wear this in the winter. The notes listed are: Top: Bergamot, freesia and pear, Middle: African orange flower, frangipani and lily. End: Vetyver, iris and sandalwood. It's a very well blended fruity, floral, vanilla scent - with none of each note standing out alone too significantly (IMO). It's sweet, but not too sickening. It has average staying power and average sillage. Overall, a nice warm vanilla musk scent (although no musk is listed).

Fragrances -Hanae Mori - Hanae Mori Magical Moon
ShellyMum 6/26/2012 3:56:00 AM
I give this scent applause for being different. To me it's quite unique. I find it a crisp, spicy, powdery scent. I bought this unsniffed for a good price. Thankfully the risk paid off and I'll actually wear it LOL. It is the middle of winter as I'm smelling this, and I keep imagining myself wearing it on a warm summer evening. I was hoping for a stronger coconut note, as listed in the notes, but alas, I don't smell that on me. I usually like to try and think of a similar scent to compare, and I'd say the closest would be BLV women (blue bottle). Not an exact match, but along the same lines (at least to my nose). I don't absolutely love it, but it's interesting (in a nice way). I look forward to trying it in summer as well.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Maroussia Perfume by Slava Zaitsev
ShellyMum 6/18/2012 11:51:00 PM
I tried Maroussia again today after about 20 years!! Strangely, on me I get a fresh clean almost spicy aquatic scent, and not the darkness that others have experienced. At present I’m smelling my wrist and it is reminding me a boy (and I mean boy, he was 15) who took me to my first school dance. He wore a scent called Blue Stratos (in Australia). This stuff smells exactly like it LOL. So, it just goes to show that we all should definitely try fragrances on our own skin to know how it's going to smell on us. It’s a nice scent that either a male or a female could wear.

Fragrances -Prada - Candy EDP
ShellyMum 6/14/2012 2:07:00 AM
I was so excited to try this. I had high expectations from Prada. Unfortunately I was disappointed. I like my scents to last when I put them on and get frustrated when they don't. Especially when we are being charged so much $$$ for them. Candy is quite a simple sweet, light airy musk with vanilla and caramel. The smell is pleasant, but there was no wow factor for me. I lost the scent in about 1 hour - poof it was gone (even on my clothes). Lucky I only had a sample. Definitely not full bottle worthy in my opion.

Fragrances -Cacharel - Lou Lou
ShellyMum 5/25/2012 1:30:00 AM
I'm going through a phase of wanting to revisit old scents from my past. I recently purchased Lou Lou after about 20 years of not having smelt it. It is one heavy potent scent. I cannot believe I used to wear this with reckless abandon when I was 16 or 17 years old!! It is a very floral, powdery, vanilla, oriental scent on me. After placing some into a sample vial, I only put a small dab on my arm and boy does this baby have some huge sillage/projection. I honestly can't imagine how anyone could wear more than one spray. I am loving it however, but it's winter here and I am not sure I'd be enjoying it so much in the summer time. I think I will save it for evenings and winter time.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Meow EDP by Katy Perry
ShellyMum 5/16/2012 2:17:00 AM
It is a creamy vanilla on me, with an undercurrent of fruits and florals, but ultimately it comes off mostly as vanilla to me. Yum. It is sweet, but I don't find it too cloying. It lasts quite well and I can still smell it at the end of the day. The notes are:- Tangerine, pear, jasmine, gardenia, honeysuckle, lily of the valley, orange blossom, amber, vanilla, sandalwood and musk. I don't wear it everyday as I have way too many other scents to work my way through, but I think it's a really appealing scent.

Fragrances -Guerlain - Shalimar
ShellyMum 5/14/2012 7:25:00 PM
I own Shalimar because I love its history and iconic status dating back to the 1920s. Being a curious perfume fan I just had to add it to my collection. The scent itself isn’t what I’d call a pretty scent. The initial blast smells like a harsh cough mixture to me (I have the EDT), i.e. not nice! I always make sure I let it dry on my skin first before getting clothing near it, just to make sure these stinky top notes don’t hang around too long. I think Shalimar is a perfume that gets better the longer you leave it on your skin. It develops into a lovely vanilla ambery scent (but not a sweet vanilla). Also, this scent is strong - even in EDT form. I wouldn’t wear it as an everyday scent, but can certainly admire its standing as a classic and do enjoy the cosy vanilla dry down very much.

Fragrances -Gucci - Gucci Guilty
ShellyMum 4/19/2012 7:11:00 AM
Well I think Gucci should certainly feel Guilty about this one. What a let down, and to charge so much for it too is terrible. The reason for my dislike is not the scent itself (I think it smells great), but the longevity. The EDT lasts like a cologne body spray on me. The actual fragrance is really nice, but could have been so much better in my opinion. I then tried the Guilty Intense version and got a little bit more longevity out of it but still find it too weak on me. I get no projection (sillage) from either the EDP or the EDT. The top notes are gorgeous but it just dries down to nothing on me (even when sprayed on clothes). Shame really, as it does smell quite nice... but definitely not worth the money for me. Sorry!

Fragrances -Calvin Klein - Obsession
ShellyMum 4/18/2012 2:08:00 AM
I used to wear Obsession back in the early 90s. I loved it then and was given plenty of compliments when wearing it. I discovered it again in a bargain bin yesterday for a great price and thought I'd try it again. Well, I'm absolutely loving it. It is a lovely soft oriental fragrance on me. I agree with others in saying that it should be used sparingly (I used 2 sprays after my early morning shower and add another 1 spray mid afternoon). Wow, yum! It is a lovely, warm and cosy, slightly powdery, sweet (but not "Pink Sugar" sweet) ambery oriental. As far as the reformulation goes, I honestly haven't noticed anything negative in this new one I am wearing, and I normally dislike reformulation of scents. It is still as nice as I remember. I would completely recommend it to fans of oriental scents.

Fragrances -Vera Wang - Princess Night

Yes, I totally agree that this smells exactly like Jessica Simpson Fancy to me. If you love Fancy and don't already have it, I'd recommend it. It's a very nice fragrance, but just too similar to Fancy (which I have) for me to buy it.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Queen by Queen Latifah
ShellyMum 2/10/2012 9:24:00 PM
Maybe it's been too long since I last smelled Angel but this reminded me so much of Angel when I first sprayed it. I'm sure comparing the 2 scents side by side would show distinct differences, but my initial reaction was "oh Angel". I think Queen is a little more cosy, boozy and creamy. It is well made with good sillage and longevity. I sprayed a tester on my arm in the morning and it lasted all day, all night and was also there the next morning when I awoke. It lasted on my jacket sleeve for days. So it certainly has some longevity. It is a nice sweet vanilla/caramel foody type scent. Have a sniff, it's quite yummy.

Fragrances -Banana Republic Beauty - Malachite
ShellyMum 2/3/2012 2:55:00 AM
I received a 4 pack of mini Banana Republic fragrances and have decided to review them all at once. The stars rated will be for the one it's filed under. ROSEWOOD (2006): Notes, Bergamot, champagne, white tea leaves, vanilla, sandalwood, and white amber. I like Rosewood, it’s a sweet musky, powdery floral oriental scent. It is quite unusual to my nose but in a good way. I will definitely wear this one. For those looking for an actual rosewood scent, you won’t find it here. I don’t smell any actual rosewood. Try Amarige by Givenchy for a better rosewood scent. ALABASTER (2006): Notes, Lotus flower, wild rose and warm musk. This is a nice clean rose scent. It reminds me a lot of True Love by Elizabeth Arden. It’s nothing spectacular but I’d still wear it if I’m in the mood for a fresh, clean rose scent. MALACHITE (2007): Notes, Water hyacinth, pepper, green mango, imperial peony, winter pear, rose, carnation, sandalwood, vanilla and musk. I found this one to be very interesting and loved it the best of all the 4 scents. It is a lovely soapy, classy scent. It is a bit peppery too, which is different to other soapy scents I’ve owned in the past. Lastly, CLASSIC (1995): Notes, Herbal notes, bergamot, pink grapefruit, clementine, honeysuckle, ginger, white musk and woody notes. This one was my least favourite of the 4. It is marketed as a unisex scent but on me, it just smells like a horrid spicy lemon scent. I wore it a couple of times, just to be certain, but each time found myself running to scrub it off. My nose just couldn’t like it. Oh well, liking 3 out of 4 isn’t bad odds I guess.
