Lipstick -BeneFit Cosmetics - Silky-Finish lipstick in Frenched
Rachaelein 11/9/2010 6:44:00 PM
Can't win 'em all. I love the color -- a nice "cherry" red -- and I like the shine. However, it has zero staying power. Now, I've never tried this with a primer or something that might extend its wear, but the fact is, I never use a primer and have many lipsticks that stay just fine. Boo.

Eyeliner -NYX - Candy Glitter Liner - Disco Queen
Rachaelein 11/9/2010 6:40:00 PM
Yay, NYX! I bought this to do a "New Year's Eve" look per a tutorial inspired by a Sephora cover. Never heard of it before, and had only used Too Faced glitter liners. This blows them away. The glitter is more dense than the Too Faced liners I've tried. Disco Ball is multi-colored, with a lot of blue and silver. I layered it over navy blue liner and it looked gorgeous and stayed put. Plus, the price is right! I can't wait to try more NYX glitter liners for a fraction of what I would've paid elsewhere...

Lipstick -Chanel - Rouge Coco in Mademoiselle 05
Rachaelein 11/9/2010 12:52:00 PM
Add me to the army of Mademoiselleophiles! I've just been turned on to the magic of Chanel lipsticks and glosses -- beginning with the *magical* Rouge Allure Laques -- and, like everyone and their mom, fell in love with the color on Vanessa Paradis in the ad. It's just so simple, fresh, and stunning. When I first tried this on I wanted it to be more...something. Brighter? More coral? It just looked like my natural lips, only darker. But then as the day wore on, and I saw it in different lights, it grew on me more and more, and now I love it. On me it is a rosewood color, sometimes coral, sometimes pulling a bit plum. It's very natural and yet makes me feel very polished at the same time. Youthful yet sophisticated. I love to do heavy eyes and nude lips and this is a great substitute for a more traditional nude. I also like to use gold on my eyes and this picks it up very nicely. I love the texture also...very creamy. For me, the staying power isn't as amazing as the Rouge Allure Laques but that's to be expected as those are just insanely long lasting. Obviously everyone needs to try it to see, but I really can see this working on many skin tones.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Beauty Marked
Rachaelein 11/5/2010 4:08:00 PM
Oh, Beauty Marked! Never has a product inspired such frustration and wonder! I too was enamoured by the way it looked in the pan only to bring it home, try it on my lid (over a Urban Decay Primer Potion) and have it look...black. D'oh! Away to youtube I went, where I found several tutorials on "how to make Beauty Marked work" and can finally get the results I wanted. I use it over a black, purple or white base (think NYX jumbo pencils) and/or I foil it. Only then can you see the beautiful red glitter flecks. I'm giving it only 3 because though I can make it go on beautifully, it takes a bit of work to get it there and I feel a bit limited on how I can use it in that it absolutely must be foiled or applied over a base.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Jingle Jangle Dazzleglass
Rachaelein 11/5/2010 3:58:00 PM
I got my makeup done at MAC two Halloweens ago and the artist used this, so I bought it for touch ups, otherwise I wouldn't have purchased something that seemed so "frivolous" (as I was, at that time, trying to build up the basics). What do you know, it is more versatile than I might have thought and I use this all the time! Sometimes I wear it alone over lip balm and I often wear it over other colors. If you don't want the full-blown dazzle effect it is great to use in the middle of your lips as a highlighter to make them appear more full and juicy. My only problem is, as with all lipglasses and dazzleglasses, it's a bit sticky.

Palettes -Too Faced - Quickie Chronicles - Life of the Party

I received this palette as a stocking stuffer and used it all up! I'm a sucker for cute packaging and Too Faced is on to that. I found this palette very versatile and easy to use and it seemed to compliment my coloring nicely.

Lipstick -Illamasqua - Encounter
Rachaelein 11/5/2010 3:50:00 PM
Darnit! This color is so lovely, but unfortunately it is really drying on me. I can make it work, and have conintued to wear it, but I have to wear balm under and over it, which defeats the point of purchasing a matte red. I love the packaging and what I perceive to be Illamasqua's entire ourvre/theory of dramatic makeup, but I think, for my mattes, I'll just spend that extra $10-12 and go YSL or Chanel as they are more hydrating.

Eye Shadow -NYX - Jumbo Eye Shadow Pencil - Milk
Rachaelein 11/2/2010 2:19:00 PM
What a great find! A makeup guru on youtube turned me on to this and I've never looked back. This pencil goes on very creamy and is a really bright white. I mostly use it as a base to make other shadows pop, so I can't attest to its staying power/creasing tendencies when worn alone or over primer. It's a great base though, and fantastic for the price!

Lips -Yves Saint Laurent - Rouge Pur Black tulip
Rachaelein 11/2/2010 2:15:00 PM
I am in love with this lipstick and want to marry it. Ironically, I bought it for Halloween and, for that purpose, wanted it to be less "wearable," and more gothy, than it actually is. In truth it goes on as a deep but flattering blackberry color. It feels wonderfully smooth on the lips! I am wearing it now at work and have been complemented twice just this morning.

LOVE. I just discovered this and can't stop raving about it! The texture, color payoff, lasting power, and shade are amazing! Well worth the $32.
