Lipstick -Revlon - Super Lustrous in Blushed
rated 4 of 5

I really love Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks and have several. By far the best drugstore brand lipstick. I have sensitive skin and some lip products can irritate my lips, but not these. They are completely scent/taste free. They are smooth, creamy, glossy, long-wearing and the colours are great. Blushed is a very natural looking lipcolour. It's a warm pinky/peachy-brown. It's pearl finish gives it alot of dimension and I think it will look a little different on everyone depending on your skin tone.

Lipstick -Revlon - Colorburst Lipstick in Rosy Nude
rated 4 of 5
NerdyLibrarianGirl 9/29/2012 10:07:00 AM

I am a fan of Revlon Super lustrous lipsticks, and I am really liking the Colorburst. The packaging is fantastic and looks and feels very high-end. I love the all black, matte finish and that the top of each tube matches the shade inside. I think its, by far, the nicest packaging you can find in a drug store product and a close second to MAC. Like the Super Lustrous, these have no scent or taste, which I love. They go on very smooth and creamy and are long-lasting. "Rosy Nude" is well-named: it's a very wearable pinky-brown. Very pigmented with a slightly glossy finish. Really nice for fair skin.

I really like how it looks on my fair skin. I only wish this range came in more shades!

Lipstick -Maybelline - Color Sensational Lipstick - Warm Me Up
rated 2 of 5
NerdyLibrarianGirl 9/29/2012 9:49:00 AM

Shade is very pretty but this lipstick has an odd smell, sort of like the smell of clay, although it doesn't really stay around after you apply it and is taste-free thankfully. However it did irritate my lips a little, so if you are sensitive, this may not be for you. It is very long wearing, but has a fairly dry texture and is not the smoothest or easiest to apply. Overall, I was not a fan.

Lipstick -L'Oreal - Colour Riche Lipstick
rated 1 of 5

Loreal Colour Riche lipstick smells awful! It smells very artificial and sickeningly sweet like cheap sugary candy. I would not re-purchase. And in Canada they are $10.99! Way overpriced. I love all the Revlon lip products which are less expensive and completely scent-free. I will stick to them from now on. If you are sensitive about fragrances like I am, I'd avoid the Loreal. It irritated my lips.

Eye Shadow -NYX - Opal
rated 1 of 5
NerdyLibrarianGirl 7/15/2012 9:03:00 PM

Oh no. Just, no. I had no idea this was like a duochrome, vellux pearl sort of finish, not "frosty" which is the official finish. It does not look it in the pan. I should have read the MUA reviews first. I really, really don't like that type of e/s. It totally has the flash of blue-ish purple. Just awful on me. And I don't normally put too much stock in NYX's colour names, but they were right on the money on this one: picture an opal, and you have this e/s. It reminds me of really old fashioned, dated e/s from another era.

Eye Shadow -NYX - Barely There
rated 2 of 5
NerdyLibrarianGirl 7/15/2012 8:57:00 PM

Barely There is a very good name for this e/s. It almost reminds me more of a highlighter, and could be used as one. There is almost no colour to this shade at all, just a little bit of slightly golden shimmer. You could use it sparingly as a highlight. I bought it online (on sale) hoping for more of neutral slightly shimmery lid colour, but it doesn't show up enough for that, so I am disappointed. I don't have much use for this shade.

Eye Shadow -NYX - Highlight
rated 1 of 5
NerdyLibrarianGirl 7/15/2012 8:41:00 PM

I bought this because NYX lists it as "matte". I thought it could be a good blending out colour and a matte highlight. It really isn't matte though. It definitely has a sheen. As you work it as you're blending, that seems to bring out the satin quality even more, and it actually looks quite pearlescent and shiny on me. Not at all what I was looking for. It's too light to use as a lid colour on me as it wouldn't show up enough on my fair skin. Not sure what to do with it. Not a useful shade.

Eye Shadow -NYX - Dark Navy
rated 2 of 5
NerdyLibrarianGirl 7/9/2012 10:17:00 PM

Okay, I know NYX can be a bit off with the names of their colours, but this shadow is PURPLE. Not even remotely navy. Although it even appears navy in the pan, and "looks" like a beautiful colour for a smokey, dramatic, navy eye...no, it's totally purple once applied.

Liquid -Neutrogena - Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup SPF 20
rated 3 of 5
NerdyLibrarianGirl 7/8/2012 9:12:00 PM

This is unavailable in Canada, but I picked it up on a trip to the US. The store had no testers available, and I had a hard time choosing between the "classic ivory" and the "natural ivory". Both seemed equally light. The classic looked really yellow/orange and the natural looked more pink. I went with the natural ivory, but it is way too dark and not at all a colour match for me. It also oxidizes quite a bit once on my skin. It's really a shame that they don't have more of a range of shades available, because other than the unwearable colour, I really liked the texture and coverage of it. It sits very naturally on the skin and has a nice glowy finish. It felt great on my slightly dry skin and wasn't irritating, and it didn't make me break out. If you can find a shade to match your skin I would recommend it, but if you are very fair skinned and find liquid foundations tend to oxidize on you, then I'd stay away.

Liquid -Cover Girl - Clean Makeup, Sensitive Skin
rated 3 of 5
NerdyLibrarianGirl 7/8/2012 9:19:00 AM

After battling it out with several high-end liquid foundation "un-successes" I headed back to the DS in search of something light enough and fragrance-free for my fair, sensitive skin. The "lightest" shade in a lot of the DS brands (many of which have a poor shade selection) were no where near light enough. Many others are scented - why put fragrance in something you have to put all over your face? What I liked about the CG Clean MU: fragrance-free, didn't irritate my skin, great coverage (definitely medium coverage at least), fairly close colour match. What I didn't like: not great if your skin tends to be a bit dry as it has a matte finish, can look cakey if you're not careful, and you can't get this stuff out of the bottle! I gave the packaging 1 lippie, as other reviews are totally true, it's very thick and does not want to come out of that bottle. I had to use a q-tip to scoop product out of there. I would repurchase in a pinch, as it's very inexpensive and it's adequate, but the lightest shade is very pink and not a true colour match for me. It oxidizes a little (not as bad as others I've tried). Not my favourite, but not the worst foundation either.

Tinted Moisturizer -Laura Mercier - Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 - Oil Free
rated 3 of 5
NerdyLibrarianGirl 7/8/2012 8:57:00 AM

I have been searching for a liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer that will work for me. The Stila TM irritated my sensitive skin. I was in Sephora, and after testing the lightest shades of all of the Clinique liquid foundations with the SA and finding them all too dark/too yellow, she suggested the LM. The lightest shade "Porcelain" really seemed to be just that - porcelain. I thought I'd found a colour match but...this really oxidizes and throughout the day goes darker and orangey. I liked the texture and coverage and this did not irritate me or cause any breakouts. Otherwise it's a lovely TM but if you're very fair like me, I would definitely ask for a sample to test out first. I'm still in search of something light enough for my skin tone.

Lip Treatments -Fresh - Sugar Rose Lip Treatment SPF 15
rated 2 of 5
NerdyLibrarianGirl 7/2/2012 12:07:00 AM

I splurged and paid $20+ for this because makeup artist Stacey Panepinto used it on Kristen Stewart in the wedding scene of Breaking Dawn (and love or hate the films, you can't deny that her makeup looked freakin amazing!). I love, love, love the colour, which is perfect for fair skin, and as a balm its quite nice. Its scented (pleasant, light, lemon scent) but that didn't irritate my lips at all. If it weren't for the packaging I could have given this an amazing review as my HG lip product. But... What initially looked like high-end, luxurious, brushed metal packaging, in reality turned out to be a mess! You have to twist/turn the cap on. Unfortunately, the turning motion, no matter how careful I was, caused the lip balm to twist up and smoosh into the top of the cap. Almost immediately, after only a couple of uses, it cracked off at the base, leaning sideways and smooshing more. It also is soooo mushy at room temperature (and I live in Canada so its not THAT warm here) that a huge amount smears onto your lips (and all over the packaging). I just gave up and scraped it all into an empty lip gloss pot. Applying it with my finger, it worked like a dream. But for that price, I would expect functional packaging. would not re-purchase.
