Lip Gloss -Revlon - Super Lustrous in Coral Reef
Melavia 1/17/2012 4:57:00 PM
I am not a fan of lip glosses because i always find them heavy and sticky (tried several juicy tubes and others from Clarins or EA). I have read wonderful reviews about the SL line here on MUA, especially for this shade so I could not stop myself from picking up one when I saw it on sale at my local drug store. In the tube, it is a very creamy coral color, it is on the orange side but still looks lovely. I was a bit concerned that it might be too orange on my lips. However, when I apply it evenly across my lips, it becomes a light pink color which complement my skin tone really well. The formula is creamy but not too heavy. it is still a bit sticky though. My hair got stuck with the blowing wind. It gives shine but no shimmer. The gloss enhances my own lip color and adds a subtle shine to my lips. I also love the packaging. It looks sleek and sturdy. It can be easily carried around and I believe it can last quite some time. I do need to reapply one or two times during the day but everything considered, this is a very nice lip gloss. I am glad that I picked it up.

Polishes -Sally Hansen - Complete Salon Manicure - Pat on the Black
Melavia 1/17/2012 10:56:00 AM
I love the complete salon line from Sally Hansen. I have it in Guilty Pleasure and Angel Wings. Guilty Pleasure has been one of my HGs ever since I started using nail polishes. Angel Wings looks great alone or over another polish. I am biased to any purple/burgandy color and have been looking for a vampy dark polish for sometime now. I grabbed this one when it was on sale at my local drug store. It is a very dark plum color that looks like black with indoor lights. However, no matter how dark it looks, it still has this plum/purple undertone to it. Under natural lights, the plum part shows up a lot. I have always enjoyed the packaging and formula of this line. I still use a base and quick dry top coat though. With the two coats on, the polish can easily stay for a whole week without chipping or peeling. I am also a fan of the wide brush because for me, it makes the application much easier. I absolutely enjoy this color. I think it is great for the fall/winter seaon.

Lips -Revlon - Just Bitten - Victorian
Melavia 1/17/2012 10:38:00 AM
Bought it on sale at my local drugstore. This is the first lip stain that I ever tried. For the price I paid, I am glad I was giving the chance to see whether I like using lip stains or not. Since this is the first lip stain I ever tried, I cannot compare with other similar products. This review is just based on my own experience wtih the particular product. I was having a hard time trying to pick out a color. There was no tester and I have no idea whether the color runs true to the package or not. I picked up victorian because it is a very nice berry pink color. It looks really nice onmy lips. I followed the instruction on the label where I applied the stain first. I have to say it is very drying. The color can be uneven. I have a hard time trying to apply the stain evenly over my lips. I also find out that the stain would stay on my lip lines easily, which is not pretty at all. I love the addition of the lip balm but I am usually very careful when using it because I am afraid to break it. I wish it can be twisted instead of just sticking out like that. The staying power is much longer than any lipstick or lipgloss that I have ever used. I suppose this is an advantage of lip stains. I also like the fact that when you apply the balm 30sec after, the stain will not be transferred to the blam, making the whole application fuss free. As my first lip stain, the performance is up to par. But then, I really do not have much expectation to it at the first place. There are much left to be desired in terms of the packaging and formula. I might purchase another one or two just to try out its color selections.

Polishes -Sally Hansen - Complete Salon Manicure Nail Polish
Melavia 1/12/2012 2:34:00 PM
I have this in Guilty Pleasure and Angel Wings. I love both colors. Guilty Pleasure is probably my go to polish when i want some fun. With a base coat and top coat, it can easily last a week. The formula is creamy and easy to apply. I enjoy the wide brush because I think it makes application easier. It can be messy around the edges so I need to take extra caution on that. Angel Wings is a shimmery sheer color that can look good on its own or layer on top of another polish. However, I got a few bubbles out of it which I am not sure why. I used it without a top coat and the polish dried out without too much shine. The drying time is quite long though. I went to bed four hours after the application yet I still got bedsheet marks. I probably would not use it on its own but I absolutely love the colors and the design of the brush. I would love to add more into my own collection and with them on sale, they are not so bad.

Polishes -Sally Hansen - Nailgrowth Miracle Nail Polish
Melavia 1/10/2012 10:24:00 AM
I have the clear treatment and recently added Forbidden Fudge into my collection of polishes. The clear treatment absolutely transformed my nails. I was a life-long nail biter which means I have extremely short/brittle/soft/bendy/peeling nails. I have been using it for about four months as a base coat or wear it alone. My nails are so much stronger now and they really grow rather fast. It keeps my polishes stay in put and does not peel off when wearing it by itself. Then the other day, I saw this line on sale at my local drugstores. There are really a lot of the lady-like colors but then Forbidden Fudge caught my eyes. It is a really rich chocolate color with sutble shimmers. The wear so far is not bad though the tips tend to show signs of wear before most of my other polishes. The brush is the same as the Complete Salon line where the stick is flat and the bursh is really wide. I like the wide brush but the stick tends to pickup lots of polish and it can slide down during applications. I suppose you need to get use to the wide brush here. I would love to see a better variety of colors for this line but the clear treatment by itself has totally sold me.

Polishes -Sally Hansen - Forbidden Fudge 380
Melavia 1/9/2012 3:10:00 PM
I bought this on sale together with Angel Wings from the Complete Salon series. I absolutely love the color. It is a rich and creamy pearly chocolate color where one coat is almost opaque. The fomula is smooth and application is quite easy as any other Sally Hansen polish. I have some great experience with the Xtreme and Complete Salon lines so naturally I have some expectations to this one. I have been using the regular nailgrowth treatment and serum for a few months now. I have to say those two products completely changed the conditions of my nails. I was not really expecting any growth effect from this polish and yet, I am still a bit disappointed about it. The tips start to show signs of wear the very next day without too much of use from my end. My nails are not long and all I did are some moderate house work. This is far shorter than the average of other polishes I have. As much as I love the color, I am not satisfied with its staying power. I hope I could find something similar but with a much longer lasting power in the future.

Sunscreen -Neutrogena - Ultra Sheer Face Sunscreen SPF 60 with Helioplex
Melavia 1/5/2012 10:49:00 AM
Bought this with a bargain price. I was looking for a sunscreen with higher SPF that can be an alternative to the Shiseido one I was using. That one was ok but still left my skin a bit greasy. I was swinging between this one the the SPF55 but decided to buy this because it is fragrance free. It is thicker than Shiseido but I find it to be pretty easy to blend in. It does not leave my skin feeling oily and greasy even though when I touch my face, I could tell that I am wearing a sunscreen. It is winter now so I do not need a lot so I think this could last a long way. I have not experiencing any white spots, stricks or break outs as of now. Will update in the future

Treatments -Olay - Regenerist Daily Thermal Mini-Peel
Melavia 1/4/2012 1:27:00 PM
I have only used it for a week but have noticed difference in my skintone already. my skin is much softer and smoother. The hyperpigmentation spots on my face from old acnes are also slightly lighter. I use it every night after cleanser as a regular nightly routine. So far, I have not experience any adverse reaction yet. The product is in a light lilac color stored in a metal feeling tube. I do not like the opening though since I tend to squeeze more than I need. You have to squeeze hard in order to get the product out of the rubber stoppers but then, usually a lot of product would come out because of the hand pressure. I am still working on finding the perfect way to get it out. As other people mentioned, the thermal reaction lasts about 5 secs tops, and nothing happened when adding water later on. But the feeling is nice while it lasts. It has microbeads that exfoliate the skin without being too harsh. If I left it on my face for a minute or two after gentlely message it, my face will turn red after washing it off. It would return to normal in a few minutes after the night cream. Although my face is red, there is no sting or irritation. Upon washing it off, my skin is extremely soft and the surface is very smooth. I woke up the next morning with a healthy glow too. So far, I really like the product and how it feels on my face. It is a bit pricy for a drugstore brand but for a facial/peeling product, it is not unreasonable. I am currently using it on my daily basis as the instruction says and hopefully it will not broke me out. Will update later. Update 02/03/12 This is my daily morning routine now. I use a SPF60 sunscreen during the day in case my skin becomes photosensitive. The product has almost clear my face up. Initially, I had a few really ugly cryst acnes. They matured fairly soon and I was able to squeeze all the dirt out. After that, my skin has pretty much stayed clear. Even during my hormonal break out period, I only have two to three small zits that would disappear in a day or two. The marks are lighter and would disappear faster than before. My face would have a nice glow after the morning use. I am really happy with this product.

Misc Beauty Tools -Tweezerman - Metal Eye Lash Comb
Melavia 1/3/2012 3:55:00 PM
I was finally able to locate at one of my local drug stores. I only had a plastic Lancome lash comb before and I cannot really say it is effective. With this one, I was surprised to feel how sharp each tooth is. When I comb through my lashes, I could actually feel the comb detangle my lashes. Whereas for the previous one, the clumped lashes just seem to escape from the huge gap between each tooth. The design is sleek and portable. It really gives me the nice finish and touch to my lashes. I hope it could last a long time though I believe i will repurchase it if I need to.

Polishes -Revlon - Nail Enamel - Copperglaze Platinum
Melavia 1/3/2012 1:30:00 PM
Bought this together with Revlon Red when they were on sale. At $3 each, they are certainly affordable. This is not the color I was looking for but I come to like it as I wear it longer and longer. I was looking for a pearly/metalic brown/beige color that is a bit darker than my skintone but not dark enough to be considered as chocolate or brown. What this polish gives me is a rosy pearly finish. It does look close to a fresh minted penny, maybe even a shade or two lighter. And it is pinkier than rose gold (I am wearing a watch in rose gold for comparison) At first, it appears too pink for my liking but as I wear it more, it has become the perfect shade for almost any occation. It is great to wear at work, giving you the nude with a slight twist look. It also looks good with any outfit and can spice up your look. One tiny complaint I have is that I find it to be not opaque enough with one coat, sometimes even two coats. I could see the white tips of nails through the polish under certain light and angle. I might try to apply more in the future. Overall, it is a nice and fun color to wear everyday.

Polishes -Revlon - Revlon Red
Melavia 1/3/2012 10:50:00 AM
Bought it togetherwith copperglaze plantium because all Revlon classic nail polishes were on sale for $3. I have been eyeing a true red color for sometime now. I am a little hesitant to try reds for the fear that the color might appear cheap and does not complement my skintone. This color is what I would consider a true red. It is bright but very rich. It easily makes a statement without being overly dramatic. In fact, I think most people can pull it off. The formula is creamy and one coat is almost completely opaque. I did another coat to simply touch up. I would repurchase it if I use it all up and need a true red color. However, I have so many polishes on hand that I do not see the need to repurchase any one of them in near future. I would recommand anyone who want to try reds or a bright color. It is bright but classic at the same time.

Mascara -Maybelline - Full 'N Soft Mascara
Melavia 12/29/2011 2:29:00 PM
I bought this mascara after reading so many positive reviews here on MUA. I think it out performs most drug store mascaras. The best feature I find is that it defines my lashes really well. In fact, I can almost skip the last step with lash comb because each lash is individually defined by the mascara. It also holds curls relatively well. My lashes are not weighted down and are not crunchy. It did not seems to lengnthen my lashes a lot or make them any fuller. The result is on the natural side. Plus, although the wear is nice, there are tiny flakes falling under after a few hours. It is not too noticable and can be taken care off fairly easily. But because I wear contact lenses, I would very much like to avoid flakes as much as possible. It is a good mascara if you are looking for an everyday look. I like the design of the brush because it does not bring excessive amount of product out and makes the application quite easy. It did not make my lashes look clumpy/spider legs like other d/s brands I tried. The price is reasonable but I find my newly purchased Estee Lauder performs better.

Misc Beauty Tools -Shiseido - Eyelash Curler
Melavia 12/29/2011 2:19:00 PM
After reading many great reviews here on MUA I finally purchased this lash curler. The only lash curler that i have ever pocessed is from Revlon and I have adjusted my technics so I could actually achieve a rather satisfying job with it. The first time I got hold of the curler itself, it feels light and flexible, in fact, it even feels a bit too loose for my liking. it is actually faltter than Revlon and the first time i used it, it pinched my eyelid because I was not carefully enough. It fits better with my eyes but I am use to really push it and then squeeze hard. After a few tries, I think you need to use the correct technic and curl all the way up in order to get the best result. The first time I tried it, my lash folded upward in almost a 90 degree staight angle which was not pretty at all. But now, with less pressure and carefully move up the lashes, I actually can have curly lash that shoot up to my eyebrows. For something that works this well, $20 is a reasonable price to me and I am looking forward to purchase it again.

Concealers -Garnier - Anti-Dark-Circle Eye Roller
Melavia 12/28/2011 10:23:00 AM
I bought this after reading many reviews here on MUA. It was on sale at my local drug store. I bought the shade in medium which seems to be the only shade available here. It suits nicely with my Asian yellow undertone light/medium skin. My skin gets brighter during the winter and I find my concealers all appear to be a bit too dark now. The product glides on nicely with the roller and gives me a cool feeling. The product itself feels very light, unlike most concealer I used before. I usually roll from the inside of my eyes once or twice then blend it in with my fingertip. The shade matches very well and instantly brights up the area under my eyes. I also dab it on my acne marks on my cheeks. It cannot hide the hyperpigmentation completely but does light it up a bit. I also think it is a nice base for other concealers because it brights and evens out the area where I need to conceal. Overall, as a concealer, I find it work quite nicely with my skintone. I would not count too much with the roller since I have the regular roller and unless I store it upright, the roller ball always deposit too much product.
