Styling Products -Redken - Smooth Down Heat Glide ] [DISCONTINUED]
Marlena_M 10/18/2007 11:26:00 AM
For reference my hair is fine, medium density, naturally curly (3a/b), colored (demi) and chemically treated. I used this probably 5-6 times prior to doing a blow out and it was WAY too heavy for my fine hair - it left my hair very flat and limp. I tried it after a blow out before using the flat iron and my hair looked awful. Not the right product for me and I won't repurchase!

Styling Products -Pantene - Texturize Spray Wax
Marlena_M 10/16/2007 10:52:00 AM
For reference my hair is naturally curly, fine, medium density, colored (demi-permanent) and chemically treated. A couple of days ago I bought this product on a whim hoping to find something to help define my natural curls and give some hold. What a major disappointment. It only cost about $6 but it gave no hold and left my hair stringy (is that defined? LOL), greasy looking and feeling coated (guess that's the wax?)... and I didn't use all that much! I wouldn't recommend this to anyone nor would I repurchase.

Conditioner -Nexxus - Humectress Conditioner
Marlena_M 10/14/2007 4:16:00 PM
For reference my hair is fine, medium density, naturally curly (3a/b), colored (demi only), chemically treated and definitely wants to frizz if left alone. I have used Nexxus Humectress conditioner many times and it simply does not perform well for my hair. It's very heavy for my fine hair, weighs it down and leaves it feeling coated. I do not find it moisturizing at all. I will not repurchase.

Shampoo -Nexxus - Therappe Shampoo
Marlena_M 10/14/2007 4:14:00 PM
For reference my hair is fine, medium density, naturally curly (3a/b), colored (demi only), chemically treated and definitely wants to frizz if left alone. I have used Nexxus Therappe shampoo many times and it simply does not perform well for my hair. It's thick and creamy but it leaves my hair very tangled and unmanageable. I do not find it moisturizing at all. I will not repurchase.

Hair Color -Clairol - Natural Instincts Hair Color
Marlena_M 10/7/2007 10:58:00 PM
I've been using Clairol Natural Instincts hair color for about 8 years now in all the varying shdes of brown they have. Overall, I love it. Super easy to use, consistent results,no hot-roots, covers greys nicely, leaves my hair feeling great and fades gradually. It's not a semi permanent (which lasts about 6 shampoos) but is a DEMI permanent color which lasts about 21 shampoos. No complaints, I love the stuff and recommend it to everyone.

Hair Color -Clairol - Brass Free Brunettes
Marlena_M 10/7/2007 9:23:00 PM
I have fine, naturally curly hair that is medium density, chemically treated and wants to frizz if I leave it alone. I've been coloring my hair in some way since I was 16... I couldn't really tell you what my true natural color is at this point! LOL! I've used Clairol Natural Instincts in varying shades of brown for probably 6-8 years now... maybe longer? It's very gentle, gives consistent results and never dries out my hair. About 3 weeks ago I colored using Wella Color Charms demi in 5R Chestnut and then one week ago used Herbal Essences All That Shine which pulled a LOT of the color out of my hair. Today I used the Clairol Natural Instincts Brass Free Brunettes in Medium Brown and the results are great! No red tones whatsoever, it covered my greys nicely and the color looks really natural. It didn't run dark which was a real fear of mine since most "medium brown" colors seem to come out nearly black... this didn't!!! The real test will be how the color holds up after washing (I use sulfate-free shampoos to minimize fading). Right now I'm super pleased and would repurchase AND recommend to others!

Conditioner -TiGi - Bedhead Moisture Maniac Conditioner
Marlena_M 10/3/2007 10:11:00 PM
Fabulous conditioner - -- Can I give it more than 5 lippies??? This is definitely my new holy grail conditioner! My hair is fine, naturally curly, colored and chemically treated. it's hard to find a conditioner that doesn't weigh it down but moisturizes enough to prevent frizz. TiGi BedHead Moisture Maniac does just that! It doesn't weigh down my hair and it moisturizes beautifully... I don't get fly aways, I don't get static, I just get really great looking hair that is super soft, shiny and very bouncy. It detangles wonderfully and smells great too! Best of all, it's 'cone free =D Nothing else makes my hair look, feel and smell so good!!! I would definitely repurchase!

Shampoo -Terax - Collagene Shampoo
Marlena_M 10/3/2007 10:00:00 PM
I really like this shampoo. Moisturizing but doesn't weigh down my fine, naturally curly, colored and chemically treated hair. Smells wonderful... not floral... not foody... just clean. Doesn't tangle my hair at all. Leaves my hair very bouncy and soft. This is pretty much my new HG... nothing else gives me the results that I get from Terax Collagene. I would definitely repurchase!

Styling Products -John Frieda - Frizz-Ease Downplay Volume Reducer [DISCONTINUED]
Marlena_M 10/3/2007 8:45:00 PM
At first I rated this a 5 and really liked this product - by far it's still my favorite in the entire John Frieda Frizz Ease line! I have baby fine, naturally curly hair that is colored, chemically treated and completely turns into a frizz-ball if left alone. I've used expensive, high end products and I've used dirt-cheap drugstore products and have found the ones that really work to control my frizz are pretty much full of silicones. The problem with silicones is that they require harsh ingredients in a shampoo (typically Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) in order to remove them - if you don't remove them you get serious build up and your hair starts looking really dull and lifeless and then you have to use a clarifying shampoo. BUT John Frieda Frizz Ease Downplay Volume Reducer is essentially 'cone free!!! Okay, it does have one silicone but it's PEG-12 Dimethicone which is water soluble so you don't need harsh ingredients to remove it! YAY!!! This product works! It controls my frizz and leaves my curls defined and touchable... not at all crunchy... but I've downgraded my rating from a 5 to a 3 because it feels like my hair is "coated" or "waxy"... I can't really describe it. I'm almost done with my bottle and I don't think I'll repurchase. INGREDIENTS: WATER, PEG-12 DIMETHICONE, POLY-QUATERNIUM-46, VP/METHACRYLAMIDE/VINYL IMIDAZOLE COPOLYMER, HYDROXYETHYLCELLULOSE, HYDROXYPROPYL BIS-HYDROXYETHYLDIMONIUM CHLORIDE, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, DIAZOLIDINYL UREA, IODOPROPYNL BUTYLCARBAMATE, SALVIA OFFICINALIS (SAGE) LEAF EXTRACT, CALENDULA OFFICINALIS FLOWER EXTRACT, CAMELIA SINENSIS LEAF EXTRACT, FRAGRANCE.

Styling Products -Garnier - Sleek and Shine Anti-Humidity Hairspray
Marlena_M 10/3/2007 12:18:00 AM
Smells great... has HARD hold. If you want something you can comb-thru, this is not the product for you. But if you want a spray to keep your hair where it is, even in the wind, you need to try this. At the end of the day it's a witch to try and comb out so I took off one lippie for that reason. My favorite hard hold spray used to be Jonathan's but at nearly $30 a can I can really justify it. This holds just as strong for 1/10th the price! I would repurchase.

Styling Products -Brocato - Blow Out Cloud 9 Miracle Repair Blow Dry Serum
Marlena_M 9/23/2007 6:12:00 PM
This is really a terrific blow dry serum. It's extremely lightweight and leaves my hair feeling super soft and smooth. My other favorite is Kiehl's Heat Protecting Silk Straightening Creme but this serum from Brocato is definitely lighter. It is also lighter than Redken Satinwear. It is also lighter, and less greasy, than Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum. It is very lightly scented... not fruity, not floral and not foody... just basic clean. I have baby-fine, naturally curly hair that is colored and chemically treated. I only blow out about 1-2x per month but I will definitely continue to use Brocato's Blow Out Cloud 9 Miracle Repair Blow Dry Serum.

Styling Products -Oscar Blandi - Seta Silk Polishing Cream
Marlena_M 9/22/2007 8:47:00 PM
On wet hair before blow drying, I hate this stuff beyond words. But on dry hair after blow drying I really like it. I have naturally curly hair that is color treated and has a mild relaxer on it. I don't blow out very often (like 1-2x/mo) but when I do and use this on wet hair before I blow dry it, I end up with a nappy head of hair that looks horribly awful. But if I use one of my HG items on wet hair before blow drying and then use this once my hair is dry and go over each section again with the blow dryer, WOW, my hair looks great. I won't repurchase since there are several other products that give the same results but at least I don't have to throw it out now that I've found a decent use for it.

Styling Products -Farouk CHI - Chi Iron Guard
Marlena_M 6/18/2007 1:17:00 PM
I can't believe I haven't reviewed this before. Even more surprising is no one has reviewed this already.
I used my Chi Iron guard this morning because I was in a desperate situation of being unable to find my beloved TRESemme Heat Tamer. After spritzing it on a section of dry hair I used my flat iron and instantly remembered why I **stopped** using it before. This stuff is horrible and leaves my hair incredibly stiff and crunchy. I might as well be spraying on hair spray instead of heat protectant. As much as I love my Chi Turbo flat iron, the Chi Iron Guard this is a horrible product IMO. I will either find my TRESemme Heat Tamer tonight or I'll go buy another bottle of it but no way will I be using Chi Iron Guard again.

Styling Products -Bumble & Bumble - Bb Shine
Marlena_M 6/13/2007 12:23:00 PM
Way too heavy and greasy for my fine hair. I mean who wants oily, greasy hair that's shiny? I want shine, not grease/oil so I swapped it way quickly!! I much prefer Rene Furterer's Shine Spray which is the least greasy that I've found. No I would not repurchase the Bumble & bumble Shine... but I have repurchased the Rene Furterer Shine Spray ;-)

Hair Color -Clairol - Jazzing
Marlena_M 6/12/2007 11:09:00 AM
I use Clairol Jazzing in CLEAR about 5-7 days after each time I color my hair and always get great results. It's super easy to use, has no peroxide, has no ammonia, and gives great shine.
I apply it thoroughly all over my wet (not dripping) hair, throw on a plastic cap and sit under the dryer for about 20-30 minutes. I shampoo it out and then condition. Easy.
Gives tons of shine that lasts for about 3-4 weeks. I love it and have stocked up on it... when I run out, I will repurchase.
