Misc Beauty Tools -Tweezerman - Metal Eye Lash Comb
LucyFaye 1/10/2010 12:02:00 AM
Totally something I didn’t know I needed until I got it! I’ve been enjoying it for a couple of years now and I wouldn’t hesitate to replace it if I lost it. I like to run it through my lashes once BEFORE mascara to avoid clumps and then once after applying the mascara to remove clumps. It is very sharp so I like to point it away from my eye by using it behind my lashes and combing upwards as if I were curling my lashes with a spoolie.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Showstopper
LucyFaye 1/9/2010 11:46:00 PM
I originally had this shade in the Royal Assets Warm Eyes palette from a couple of years back and I used it up. I was so glad to be able to buy it as a single in the All Ages, All Races, All Sexes collection. It’s a very dark brown with no orange tendencies and a perfect liner. Sure, it’s not the most exciting colour, but I used it all up from that palette and never found anything I liked as much so I know I’ll use this. If you like to smudge your liner or smoke it out a lot then this might not be the best for you because it’s not the most blendable formula. That’s the trade off for adhesion though and this gives me no fallout troubles (I use a 208) and lasts all day. It works great wet or dry.

Lotions/ Creams -RoC - RoC Dermatologic Enydrial Hands
LucyFaye 1/1/2010 11:54:00 AM
This has been my favourite everyday hand lotion for many years. It absorbs quickly and gives me long-lasting moisture with no smell and no slimy or greasy feeling. I sometimes use something richer at night but those ones all feel gross when I wash my hands so I don’t like them during the day.

Lip Treatments -RoC - Enydrial Lip Balm
LucyFaye 1/1/2010 11:10:00 AM
I’ve been using this for many years. Sure I’d sometimes prefer to use something more natural but it seems that my lips react terribly to plant waxes and oils. In the summer, I can use plain petroleum jelly but I need a thicker barrier in winter and this is the only thing I’ve found that works. It doesn’t feel special going on and has no smell or taste. It just keeps my lips from getting chapped. It’s very smooth and long lasting. I’ve never had any issues with the packaging or with the balm breaking or anything and the tube is often subjected to wild temperature variations which can be a problem for a lot of lip balms. This is also my favourite balm for under a drying lipstick. RoC usually markets these in bonus packs leading up to Christmas and I always stock up then.

Makeup Brushes -Ecotools - retractable kabuki
LucyFaye 12/29/2009 8:53:00 PM
I found other Ecotools brushes to be too flimsy and floppy but I really like this one. It’s a true kabuki meant for applying powdered foundations or buffing. It’s denser than I would want for just a finishing powder or a bronzer/shimmer powder but I can certainly make do and this brush is great for my purse or travel. I don’t recommend it as an everyday, at-home brush. It’s difficult to wash without damaging it and it takes a long time to dry. I just wipe this with a cloth and rubbing alcohol. I would probably replace this if I lost it or even if it falls apart. I have better kabukis and some of them have carrying cases but this one is so cheap that I don’t mind the risks it faces bouncing around in a bag. I had to open it up and demonstrate what it was at airport security once because it’s metal and weird looking. With the latest baggage restrictions this week, I don’t think I’d fly with it again.

Concealers -NYX - Full Coverage Concealer Jar
LucyFaye 12/29/2009 6:11:00 PM
I have this in CJ01 Porcelene - the lightest shade. I bought it online in the hopes of being able to use it as an undereye concealer. Nyx has some VERY fair foundations so I was hoping that their concealer would be very fair as well. Unfortunately, it's too dark and brown for my eye area and I think the formula would be too thick as well. I was hesitant to try it as a spot concealer because it has so much mineral oil in it but I tried it eventually and I actually think it's pretty good for that. It has excellent coverage, blends well, lasts all day, and doesn't break me out. The plastic lid on the jar seems very cheap and doesn't fit or turn quite right. The product was so cheap that I won't hold that against it though. What I will hold against it is the horrendous smell! It's an overpowering cheap perfume smell that I can’t imagine would appeal to anybody. Nyx ruins a lot of products with fragrance. I would not repurchase this. I’m willing to pay top dollar for the right concealer and I have to believe I can do better than this. It’s a bargain worth trying if you can find a good colour match though.

Loose Powders -Silk Naturals - Perfecting powder (untinted)
LucyFaye 12/29/2009 1:18:00 PM
This is a very simple product. I’ve added the ingredients list: mica, silk powder, silica. There’s certainly nothing special there but they must use them in just the right proportions and use just the right mica because I’ve tried a lot of finishing powders and this is as good as any of them. It provides a beautiful, soft-focus finish that flatters my pores and fine lines and it controls oil and keeps my foundation in place. I’ve worn it with powder and liquid foundations and just by itself. You can also use this to set emollient products. It’s white in the jar but it doesn’t have any titanium dioxide or zinc oxide to leave a white cast or look strange in pictures. They also offer several tinted versions of this product (I love Date Bait) and now have a vegan version without the silk powder. Silk Naturals offers cheap samples, full-sizes in sifter jars, and bargain refill bags. I bought a refill bag and put this into a vintage powder compact.

Liquid -Revlon - PhotoReady Makeup
LucyFaye 12/29/2009 12:59:00 AM
I'll add in my review because I don't see any of my shade yet and this might help some of my PPP sisters who have helped me so much with their reviews and notepads. I have 001 Ivory and it's a good match for me. My closest MAC match is NW15 but I'm fairer than that. This is lighter and more neutral than NW15 and a much better match for me. I was able to swatch it in the store next to a few drugstore foundations for comparisons. I checked it against the L'Oreal True Match and it was closer to the N1 than to the C1 so it's not strongly pink. This is definitely lighter and pinker than the ColorStay Ivory which is unwearable for me. The 002 Vanilla shade looked much yellower and a little darker. I usually wear mineral foundation but that can make my pale face look glaringly white in pictures so I bought this mainly for occasions when I might be subjected to flash photography. I first tested in on a bare face and it blended out nicely but seemed to make some of my larger pores sparkle! It sort of looked like a piece of glitter settled in them. I washed it off and applied a primer to try again and it looked great. I don’t like to use a silicone primer regularly but I did buy this for special occasions so that’s OK. It’s not full coverage but I’m willing to do spot concealing and this worked very well for redness and general discolourations. I was pleased with the look once I tried it with a primer and was even happier with how well it wore and how it photographed. I paid $16.96 CAD at Walmart and I’ll probably buy it again. It’s not perfect but I don’t have a lot of options that match my skin tone and don’t cause irritation or breakouts.
