Fragrances -Trish McEvoy - Trish #11 White Iris
KateFesch 6/14/2010 9:51:00 PM
A soft iris bouquet on a sandalwood base. It's cool, powdery and smooth. Also incredibly elegant and lady-like. Reminds me of France. Please let me know what brand of soap smells this wonderful and I will become a faithful customer!

Shampoo -Suave - Professionals Almond & Shea Butter

I LOVE this shampoo! Leaves my hair squeaky clean, but it doesn't dry it out. Smells fabulous, too! I'm on my third bottle and will continue to repurchase.

Fragrances -Annick Goutal - Petite Cherie

I agree with Ethan. I also think this smells like B.O. Miss Dior Cherie L'eau has an identical note. Both these fragrances smell dirty and disturbing to me.

Styling Products -Unlisted Brand - Mizani True Textures - Moisture Stretch
KateFesch 4/18/2010 3:16:00 PM
I was very excited when I heard Mizani was launching a new line geared to natural curlies, but this particular product isn't for me. According to their website, my hair is mostly type IV (curly), but the bottom and the sides look more like their type III (wavy). I'd say Julianna Margulies is my hair twin. They recommend the cream gel for my hair type, but I was drawn to this one instead. Well, what 3C curly wouldn't be seduced by a styling product called "Moisture Stretch", lol? Anyway, I should've followed their advice because this product is entirely too heavy for me, no matter how much (or how little) I apply. It also has zero hold. What I need from a styling aid is moisture, softness and hold. I'm happy with my texture, volume and color and all I want is a well-kept version of what I already have. This particular product just sat on my hair and made it look very oily, as if my strands were coated with baby oil. I also tried applying a minimal amount of this cream layered with a soft-hold gel (Redken Ringlet), but the result was just as bad. I'm giving it two lippies: one for the scent, which is pleasant and dissipates quickly; another for its soothing properties: my hair looked ugly, but it felt very soft. My scalp was also happy and flake-free, which is always a challenge for me. Quite frankly, I don't see the difference between this and other products geared to African-American ladies with relaxed hair. I passed this to a friend with chemically straightened hair and went back to Redken's Ringlet. I will not repurchase this product, but will try their cream gel in the future and see how that goes. EDIT: I tried the gel and it was actually worse. It seemed even oilier and had zero hold. I gave up on this line :o(.

Styling Products -John Frieda - Frizz-Ease Weather Works Weather-proofing Style Sealant Creme
KateFesch 3/30/2010 11:50:00 PM
This works surprisingly well on my 3C curls. John Frieda products usually wreak havoc on my hair, but this somehow works. The formula is light and slippery, and I can either apply it as a styling cream on freshly washed hair or as a pick-me-up the day after. It gives me shiny, bouncy and defined curls. Scent is light and pleasant and it dissipates quickly. Will repurchase. EDIT ONE YEAR LATER: still loving it. It smells absolutely fabulous!

Lipstick -Revlon - ColorBurst in 070 Soft Nude [DISCONTINUED]
KateFesch 3/30/2010 11:32:00 PM
I have olive, NC30 skin and I have to be careful when I apply this or else it can look strange. It has a lot of orange tones, and I don't look all that great in orange lipstick. My favorite application method is to wear it over a pink lipgloss (Bonne Bell Mocha). It sheers out the otherwise opaque formula and it gives me the pink tones I need. I can wear it on its own too, but I have to blot it until it sheers out. While this is far from my perfect beige nude, I've been reaching out for it quite often. The formula is creamy and moisturizing, which is a plus.

Eyeliner -Almay - Intense i-Color Bring out the Blue
KateFesch 2/28/2010 12:09:00 AM
I have olive, NC30 skin and brown eyes. I originally had bought the lavender one that Almay recommends for my eye color, but it looked unnatural against my skintone and it didn't do anything for my brown eyes either. I then exchanged it for this one and I am very happy with it! It's a golden brown that looks very flattering against my coloring, and it's also smooth, silky and long-lasting. Two thumbs up!

Eyeliner -Almay - Intense i-Color Bring Out the Brown in Purple Amethyst
KateFesch 2/24/2010 8:37:00 PM
This color is a cool, dark and shimmery lavender that does not look all that great against my NC30 olive skin. I have brown eyes and it doesn't seem to do anything for them either. EDIT 10/16/10 -- I have experimented some more with this product and figured how to make it look flattering on me (bottom lash line only). I also found that it pairs very well with coral lips and cheeks. I am bumping it up to three lippies. I also love how this liner feels soft and gel-like against the skin. Good formula! EDIT 03/06/11 -- five lippies! Sorry for my first review, Almay. This is an excellent color for brown-eyed ladies!

Blush -Cargo - Catalina
KateFesch 2/18/2010 6:21:00 PM
A cool, bubblegum pink that looks great against my olive, NC30 skin. The texture is also excellent - semi-sheer and matte, which makes for a very natural flush. Package is cute and sturdy, price is reasonable. Two thumbs up!

Styling Products -Redken - Real Control Crema Care
KateFesch 2/16/2010 12:17:00 PM
I've decided to delete my original review and write a new one after three years of continuously using this product. This, along with Be Curly by Aveda, are the only truly remarkable styling products for very curly hair I've seen to date. The scent is fantastic and I'm often complimented on it. I hope Redken never discontinues this product. 3C.

Shampoo -Carol's Daughter - Rosemary Mint Shampoo with Sea Moss

I love the minty scent of this shampoo, but it left my hair looking coated and dirty. Will not repurchase. One lippie for the lovely scent.

Styling Products -Carol's Daughter - Hair Milk
KateFesch 2/15/2010 12:12:00 AM
My hair is super curly, but this was too heavy for me. I wasn't fond of the scent either, so I wound up returning it. I bought it at Sephora and the sales lady had straight, fine blond hair and said she loved it. I suspect this product would work for people with very dry, chemically or mechanically processed hair.
