Mascara -Maybelline - Lash Stiletto Voluptuous
Ginger30 3/5/2010 10:19:00 AM
Edit: Update: I don't dig this mascara afterall, because its too hard to work with and I like easy peasy cosmetic applications. I don't like it when I have to wipe the brush alot. However................... This mascara gives me long lashes, although I already have medium length lashes to begin with, and the mascara also makes my lashes look nicely spaced and natural looking. I don't know about voluptuous but my lashes look good. The brush is swervy and doesn't get too goopy. You can buy Maybelling on sale most of the time. This mascara is a decent good deal.

Lipstick -Revlon - Colorburst in Raspberry
Ginger30 3/3/2010 10:56:00 PM
I love these lipsticks. I already bought Soft Rose and Peach and I love those colors too. I read the two reviews below and decided to buy Rasberry because I wanted more of a statement color for spring and summer but a color that I would feel comfortable wearing. My local CVS had a BOGOF so I went ahead and bought the Rasberry and also a backup of Soft Rose. Rasberry is a berry red. Not garish but just right. I feel my lips look prominent in this color but they don't stick out in an unnatural fashion, if you know what I mean. The colorburst lipsticks are smooth and long lasting, no scent and nice packaging. I love it all and I love MUA for helping me decide on what or what not to buy. Thanks!

Hair Color -Garnier - Herbashine
Ginger30 2/24/2010 7:52:00 PM
#535 - Medium Gold Mahogany Brown. I only like to use the 30 day temporary hair colors because they are usually less damaging to the hair due to no peroxide, which can also lighten hair too much and cause orange or bleached out tones. I was going to buy the Natural Instincts Brass Free Brunettes in Light Brown, but it seems other MUA reviewers have been experiencing dissatisfaction with the current lot. Instead then, I saw the box of Garnier HerbaShine temporary color and decided to give it a whirl. The box says that the color lasts through 28 shampoos. My hair naturally is medium brown with auburn tones and definitely goes redder and lighter in the summer. I do consider myself as having brown hair, not red hair. I also have 10% grey as I am over 30 and that's what happens, unfortunately. The #535 came out really great! My hair looks beautiful and shiny. NOTE: My hair is darker and there is a definite darker red tone too so beware especially if this is not what you are going for. The product title lists the words gold and mahogany but I don't see any gold and perhaps the mahogany is similar to the word auburn. I don't wash my hair the day after color and I only use conditioner washing for the next following days, and then I go back to a sulfate free shampoo. Therefore I can get 5 weeks worth of boxed color. I do have some grey hairs and they were all covered but grey hair is tough to keep covered so the greys will come back after 3 weeks or so. (You would think by now that scientists would invent an anti-grey hair supplement! I don't mind aging but I cannot stand those grey hairs.) I like the darker contrast against my light winter skin and again my hair looks really shiney and healthy. Looks good. This boxed color was $7.99 at my Rite Aid.

Primer/ Corrector -L'Oreal - Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base
Ginger30 2/22/2010 8:52:00 PM
Edit: Update: I don't like the tiny glass jar. It needs to be wider. When you get down in the product, it is hard to get it out of the glass jar. I'm also a fan of this new L'oreal primer. Usually I have stayed away from primers due to thinking that it was an unncessary step and for fear of pimple breakouts; BUT as a woman ages she needs extra support on all levels including making makeup application look near flawless. This primer not only helps my makeup go on smoothly but also hides my fine lines on forehead and outer eye area. I've used the Magic Perfecting Base under mineral makeup too and it works well. The jar is small that houses .5 oz. of pink pearlescent product, but a little bit is all a lady needs. Also, this primer does not make me break out (thank goodness). My skin does look smoother and finer when using this! My local Rite Aid sells it for $12.95. I did buy one at full price and then I bought a second one the following week when Rite Aid placed L'oreal cosmetics at 40% off so I paid $7.77 for the back-up. This is a very good product and priced low considering how much *high end* primers go for. I will buy again especially when L'oreal goes on sale.

Lipstick -Revlon - Colorburst in Soft Rose [DISCONTINUED]
Ginger30 2/20/2010 4:01:00 PM
The Revlon ColorBurst lippies are pretty good drugstore lippies. I have the Soft Rose and Peach. The Soft Rose is the perfect MLBB color on my pink pigmented lips. The color looks so natural on me! A very good everyday lipcolor. I also like the black quilted designed packaging and secure lid. I detect no scent (thank goodness) and no major shimmer. These lippies are smooth and creamy on the lips. My local CVS price is $8.99. I got the Soft Rose and Peach (another pretty color and it is a peachy color) for BOGOF. Good deal and nice colors! I would buy again especially when Revlon does a BOGOF deal.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast Luxe
Ginger30 2/19/2010 10:54:00 AM
I'm a fan of the Luxe style of Cover Girl Lash Blast. The luxe version is in the dark pink tube. It also has the *sparkles* of different colors (burgundy, blue, green, white diamond effect). This is a very good mascara for thickening my lashes. My lashes are medium length to begin with so I get some additional length too. This doesn't make lashes crazy long though. I'd rather thicker looking lashes with some oomph. Some people like long, others like thick, others just want more. We're all different. But for me this mascara is my current favorite and I have purchased it 4 times already. I've tried all the different color enhancements too and basically they're all black with only slight color enhancement showing on the lashes. That's okay because I'm not out to make my lashes green or blue, I just want maybe a hint of of shimmery color with the black to help make my eyes go pop.

Lotions/ Creams -Lubriderm - Advanced Therapy Moisturizing Cream
Ginger30 2/19/2010 10:07:00 AM
Happy Happy! I have *finally* found my winter body moisturizing cream. That's a cream, not a lotion. This winter has been very dry and constantly cold and my arms, legs, and even breasts started to get itchy and scaley even though I use moisturizing lotions daily. I was at the gym and read about how good the Lubriderm Advanced Therapy Moisturizing Cream was for skin health in a health & beauty magazine. The beauty "expert" ladies said this cream was definitely something to buy and try to make skin feel good and look nice. So my local CVS had the Lubriderm Advanced Therapy line on sale for $2 bucks off and I decided to buy and try it. I am SO GLAD THAT I DID! My skin feels good, and no more itching or flaking. (Scamp out on you old man winter!) This cream sinks in really fast too. The scent is very light and fresh. The normal price at my local CVS is $14.99 for a 16 oz tub that is white, squared, and has a pretty fushia lid. This one is a winner! Well for me at least. I loveee this cream!

Sunscreen -Olay - Professional Pro-X Age Repair Lotion w/SPF 30
Ginger30 12/5/2009 7:48:00 PM
In my opinion this day cream with the SPF is totally awesome! I can't believe it's actually a sunscreen because it doesn't feel or smell like a typical sunscreen, plus the Pro-X day cream has great ingredients. I've been using this day cream for 3 weeks and my face looks bright, smooth, wrinkle-free, and even toned. I was having alot of redness and itching and breakouts before using this cream, and now my face has been transformed into happiness. I like the pump and the red packaging too. I have no complaints.

Self Tanners -Jergens - Natural Glow
Ginger30 5/30/2009 7:43:00 PM
This is the first time I tried a self-tanning product, yet these products have been around for years. Oh well! I really like this. It gave my legs and arms a nice glowy light tan. I usually walk around with white legs that have nick and bruises on them, but this self tanner lotion gives my legs a light tan airbrushed look and my legs do look better after using this product a few days. The tube I bought had was extra big with "25% more" at my local Target. The smell is fine and the lotion spreads very easily and I do not get any streaky-ness. I do make sure to keep exfoliated and blend, blend, blend the lotion really well. There are tiny little flecks of mica or something that gives your skin a little bit of that glow and that lasts throughout the day. I'm pleased. $7.50.

Powder -Merle Norman - Luxiva Purely Mineral Makeup
Ginger30 5/13/2009 8:18:00 PM
Another fan of Merle Norman's mineral powder foundation! I purchased M/L 40 for $30. The jar is big and will most definitely last a long time. The texture and the finish are great! I've used lots of different mineral makeup brands over the last 10 years and Merle Norman mineral is one of the better ones. (Much, much nicer than the queen mother, BE.) I also like the fact that I can go to my local Merle Norman and try it on and buy it instead of doing interent purchasing. This mineral makeup makes my skin look flawless and smooth. Love it!

Tinted Moisturizer -Olay - Definity Color Recapture with SPF 15
Ginger30 8/31/2008 12:18:00 PM
I'm another woman who likes this product. I bought the Recapture tinted moisturizer 3 week ago. I use it everyday in the morning. It's a very good daytime moisturizer/sunscreen/tint. The tint part is very slight, but I personally like that. I bought the lightest tint. I do also use a light buffing of my EM mineral foundation over it. I have combination skin and the moisturizing part was perfect for me. I don't see any excess oiliness on my skin. Moisturizers are so YMMV for all. The sunblock part is also good. I've read on the skincare board that the PPD is good. Additionally, I usually experience the sting of avo-based sunscreen products and do much better with zinc oxide, however this product does not sting me. That's good. Finally I like the fact that this product also has the Olay Definity ingredients in it and those ingredients are supposed to be good for fine lines and skin tone. I can honestly say that my skin has been looking good so I guess everything seems to be working in the Recapture product. I probably will buy this one again and I probably will use a coupon and buy it at a drugstore that has it on sale so I can save some money. I paid around $24 for it at a Walmart. (As we all know the economy can be harsh these days.)

Powder -Everyday Minerals - foundation semi-matte formula
Ginger30 7/28/2008 11:17:00 AM
I love this mineral foundation! I have used many, many different mineral makeup brands over the years including the queen mother of mineral, BE, and I can honestly say that the Everyday Minerals brand is by far my favorite. I have been using Everyday Minerals makeup for the last 8 months. I decided to try a non-bismuth oxychloride brand and I am so very happy that I did. BE and the others that have this ingredient in their foundations, blushes, etc, was actually giving my skin irritation and making it way too shiney. Everyday Minerals does not have this bad ingredient and my skin looks perfect, youthful, and has no irritation. I have been very pleased with everything that I have purchased from this e-tailer. I also love the EM brushes so much better than the BE brushes (I always felt the BE brushes stayed too dirty even after I attempted to clean them, plus they ended up smelling over time.) With EM, it takes me less than 10 minutes to do my face in the morning and my makeup application looks natural and fresh. When I do a EM face I use their foundations (I have 2 different finishes that I switch off depending on my mood), blush or bronzer, eyeshadow, and sometimes the concealer, and their highlighter (which is actually their light pink blush). I just add mascara and gloss and I am good to go! I will most definitely buy Everyday Minerals again.

Pressed Powders -Sally Hansen - Natural Beauty Inspired by Carmindy Luminous Matte Pressed Powder
Ginger30 7/24/2008 11:13:00 AM
This is a really good pressed powder! I agree with some of the other comments that the powder is finely milled and creamy-like. Tones down the redness in the face very well. Hasn't caused me breakouts (thank goodness) and applies easily with a good powder brush. I even like the compact. I have a few of the other Carmindy products and I am overall really pleased with this drugstore line.

Cleansers -Philosophy - Purity Made Simple (Real Purity Cleanser)
Ginger30 1/26/2008 1:00:00 PM
I tried this cleanser 3 different times over the course of 2 years. I absolutely do not like this cleanser! Each time my facial skin started breaking out about a week after starting to use it, and then, my facial skin remained in a very bad break out mode for the next two months! I don't get cystic acne but this crummy cleanser makes me get cystic acne! The ingredient list is immense and I see that there are very irritating oils in this cleanser. The reason I kept my bottle of purity is because people rave about this cleanser so that is why I went through this debacle three times. I thought it's gotta work sometime? Not! The bottle of this horrible is gone from my house and I will never ever use the Philosophy purity cleanser again. Enough said.

Eye Shadow -American Beauty - Luxury For Lids Duo in Afternoon Tea
Ginger30 1/25/2008 2:43:00 PM
I absolutely love this eyeshadow duo. I use it alot! The color on the right hand side, especially, is my favorite go-to color that I like to apply to my mobile eyelids using a "window wiper" eyeshadow brush. My eyes look so understated sexy! If I use up this eyshadow and want to buy it again, I would prefer that the color on the right be paired with a better, clearer color on the left. I don't use the left hand color too much. The AB eyeshadows do last all day too.
