Eye Shadow -Unlisted Brand - sante eyeshadow trio
rated 4 of 5
Gail2 1/22/2011 11:36:00 PM

In French Sante’ means health. In English SANTE means a healthful, beautiful, reasonably priced line of cosmetics. The first item we’ve tried is SANTE’s Eye Shadow Trio No. 03, a palette of pure organic shades that both pamper and prettify with colors ranging from cocoa to toast to sand. The shadow glides on easily with the SANTE sponge tip applicator, and stays all day without any need for touch-ups. Housed in an ultra modern 2 1/4 inch frosted square the mirrored compact slips easily into pocket or purse. SANTE is so dedicated to offering cosmetics made from the purest natural ingredients that they produce their own plant extracts, such as Organic Pomegranate and Organic Jojoba Oil.

Shampoo -Oribe - Shampoo for Magnificent Volume
rated 5 of 5
Gail2 1/16/2011 4:43:00 PM

Tired tresses? A crowning glory that isn’t looking too royal? That description fit until ORIBE completely transformed us. After having visited an Oribe salon we were convinced that the products used signaled the end of years of teasing, fluffing, and hoping. Don’t know what the secret is - only know it works. While there isn’t an Oribe salon in our city we can enjoy the benefits of these products at home. The Shampoo is a generous 8.5 oz. housed in a handsome no-slip bottle. For us, it’s also fragrance free leaving hair not only feeling fresh but also with a subtle fresh scent - perhaps due to the Edelweiss Flower, Watermelon or Lychee Extracts. Just a small amount yields a luxurious lather that cleanses gently yet thoroughly as it adds volume and body. Amazing! ORIBE is the one - no question about it!

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - NEST
rated 5 of 5
Gail2 12/28/2010 2:23:00 PM

Oh, the weather outside is frightful - really cold, windy, not fit for man or beast. So, while a NEST candle is always a treat, Blue Garden with its scent of fresh summer flowers is especially lovely at this time of year. This beautiful blend of blue hydrangea, hyacinth, and forget-me-nots creates a warm delicate aroma that’s as welcome as sunshine on a cloudy day. Housed in blue glass and presented in a blue gift box it is one more extraordinary home fragrance from Laura Slatkin. Weighing a tad over 8 ounces Blue Garden provides 50 hours of burn time - for us over 19 evenings of bliss. True to her dedication to finding a cure for autism Laura Slatkin donates profits from the sale of this candle to Autism Speaks, our country’s largest autism science and advocacy organization. Blue Garden by NEST simply keeps on glowing and giving.

“Wen is a winner” - so say those who have been converted to this revolutionary concept in cleansing introduced by noted Los Angeles hair stylist and colorist, Chaz Dean. It’s a total switch from the way we’re used to cleansing our hair, and it’s a highly beneficial change because it eliminates all the harsh detergents and chemicals found in traditional shampoos. WEN Cleansing Conditioners take the place of shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler, and leave-in conditioner - all the anticipated benefits of these five items in one bottle to leave hair healthy moisturized and cleansed. A current favorite from among WEN’s luxe line of offerings is Fig Cleansing Conditioner, which is a universal cleanser for all hair types, as it also adds body and strengthens hair. For premium hair care just say WEN! Find it at www.chazdean.com along with a plethora of other items to revitalize and reinvigorate your hair!

Cleansers -MOR - Soap Opera
rated 5 of 5
Gail2 12/8/2010 3:12:00 PM

We know, we know, one should not covet but there are times when it simply cannot be helped - discovering MOR COSMETICS was one of those times for us.. The brainchild, inspiration, and expression of Australian designers Dianna Burmas and Deon St.Mor, the company is a unique purveyor of collections that capture the essence of well being and luxury. Once introduced to the world of MOR we fell totally under its spell. At the top of our want list is Soap Opera, a trio of elegantly wrapped triple milled fragranced soaps that yield a rich creamy lather containing moisturizing Vitamin E and Shea Butter. Housed in a keepsake collectible tin each soap is a generous 7 oz.bar. A favorite? Impossible! The ruby red Italian Blood Orange is absolutely delicious with notes of Jasmine, Rose and Lily of the Valley. Snow Gardenia, what a lovely image that brings to mind, adds ylang ylang, vanilla, and sandalwood to the classical fragrance. You’ll love the unique scent of Kale & Watercress, brightened with peppery and earthy notes it is an exhilarating treat. Prepared with care and pride the soaps are both visual and sensual experiences, the ultimate in cleansing rituals.

Blush -Face Stockholm - Holiday Collection
rated 4 of 5
Gail2 12/8/2010 3:00:00 PM

The word from FACE STOCKHOLM is their holiday line is making spirits bright. Spirits aren’t all they’re making bright thanks to glowing lip glosses, shiny lipsticks, Galaxy Glitter (pots of loose glitter for eyes, face, decolletage, or wherever you want to sparkle), plus so much more. We’re loving the Haute Eye Shadow in “Blabar”, a deep violet. For painting the town or partying add a bit of glitter in “Galaxy Sex” and lengthen those lashes with FACE STOCKHOLM’S midnight mascara. Everyone needs a secret weapon and a perfect one is the magical Hiliter, which comes in 11 shades. (I’m loving “Healing” and “Radiance”). These are soft as silk creams that add a subtle shimmer wherever you wish. They’re terrific for highlighting brow bones and cheekbones, plus they yearn to be layered under powder blush or shadow for added depth and all night long color. There’s much more from FACE STOCKHOLM to your spirits and you bright this holiday season.

Treatments -Burt's Bees - Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream
rated 5 of 5
Gail2 11/22/2010 2:23:00 PM

We love Burt’s Bees - probably almost as much as Mrs. Burt. However, no need to drone on - the items are effective and price accessible. It’s time for us to be thinking stocking stuffers, small “I’m thinking of you” gifts, and luncheon place favors, so we’re delighted to find these tidy gift boxes of Burt’s Bees Rejuvenating Lip Balm and Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream. The Cuticle Cream is enriched with sweet almond oil, beeswax, and lemon peel oil; while the Lip Balm is infused with sunflower seed oil and coconut oil. We’re infused with happiness at finding such a mini merry bargain! - Gail Cooke

Lip Treatments -Bobbi Brown - black velvet collection
rated 5 of 5
Gail2 9/9/2010 4:21:00 PM

Summer has been lovely with flowered cottons and calico, but now that chilly weather is almost here it's time for velvet – BLACK VELVET. Remember when velvet was only chic for after five? Now velvet is a trendsetter for morning, noon, and night as long as it's Bobbi Brown's BLACK VELVET COLLECTION. Ingenious Bobbi has infused black with plum, cherry and maple tones to create shades that have a translucent texture, while still being strong, powerful yet also ultimately wearable from dawn to dusk and beyond. Two of my favorites are the eye shadows – Black Velvet is a sophisticated glitter. It's light in weight and makes eyes shine due to its infusion of shimmering pearls and fine glitter. For day I prefer Black Chocolate, a silky matte formula made perfect by lining with Kohl Eyeliner in Black. Lip colors in the BLACK VELVET COLLECTION are rich with vitamins E and C as well as Beeswax. From my lips to yours Black Maple is one of the prettiest shades ever – bold and beautiful.

Foundations -Vapour Organic Beauty - Atmosphere Luminous Foundation
rated 4 of 5
Gail2 8/23/2010 4:42:00 PM

Just when I reached for my tried and somewhat true makeup thinking there was nothing new under the sun along came VAPOUR ORGANIC BEAUTY. This new to me line was developed by Eric Sakas, a top professional in the beauty industry, co-founder of Kevyn Aucoin Beauty and former Director of Color for Philosophy, along with an artisanal cosmetic laboratory that uses only certified organic and food grade ingredients. What a serendipitous pairing! VAPOUR not only offers superior color artistry, but an easy to use method of application, and an ability to blend with skin whether it be as a foundation, lip color or blush. It is a mineral makeup that seems to become a part of your skin, moving and breathing with it yet enhancing your complexion. So natural! And because of this ability to become a part of your skin the Foundation does not fill in or accentuate any lines or wrinkles but simply seems to smooth over them. With an addition of moisture infusing botanicals plus anti-inflammatory Frankincense, anti-oxidant Tulsi (a plant known in India for its healing powers) and mositurizing Lotus flowers Vapour foundation not only gives skin an added luminosity but protects, hydrates as well. After applying in the morning with brush or fingertips there has been no need to reapply during the day.

Lip Treatments -Julie Hewett - Camellia Lip Balm (Pot) Ruby
rated 5 of 5
Gail2 2/15/2010 1:40:00 PM

Balm, as we know, is a preparation to heal and soothe the skin. Precisely. However, CAMELLIA RUBY BALM is not only that but also a generous pot of a luscious ruby hue that not only gives softness to lips but a glow to skin. Just learned that Camellia oil has been used for time unknown as a beauty remedy. It's rich in vitamins A, B, D, and E, all necessary nutrients for health and beautiful complexions. Toss out those colorless lip salves and be pretty while you're softening and soothing. As if all this weren't enough Julie Hewett sends her good things in gorgeous art deco black and white boxes. Love these! - Gail Cooke

Treatments (Eye) -Talika - eye dream
rated 5 of 5
Gail2 2/6/2010 4:58:00 PM

Not getting enough sleep at night? Who in today's world is? Okay, I'll accept the fact that I'm no longer getting my 8 - 9 hour sleep requirement, but I certainly don't like to look like it in the morning. Enter TALIKA EYE DREAM. Now, when a top fashion/beauty mag enthuses about a product that's a pretty good indication that it's something special, and Eye Dream was called "An under eye mask that makes five hours of sleep look like eight." Perfect! Talika tells us that during sleep the delicate skin around the eyes loses up to 50% of its moisture, but on the bright side that is also when this skin is most biologically receptive to hydration and nourishing ingredients. That is precisely what Eye Dream delivers with ultra hydration plus regenerative elements and biopeptides. - Gail Cooke

Eye Shadow -Bobbi Brown - Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow (All)
rated 5 of 5
Gail2 9/1/2009 4:35:00 PM

There's a mere hint of Fall in the air, and I'm ready for it.- the beginning of a new season, a prelude to holiday parties, all against a backdrop of glorious autumn colors. And, of course, among those glorious colors are the shades in Bobbi Brown's latest collection. The color tones are stunning, subtle yet eye catching, and uber flattering. A must-have for me is the Autumn Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow in Golden Leaf II. It's a tempered sienna, soft and coppery, pearlized so there is a touch of golden glow. Quite unlike any other shade! Love to apply it with Bobbi's Eye Shadow Brush that provides easy access to corners of the eyes, and is perfect for contouring. - Gail Cooke

Blush -Sue Devitt - Microquatic Gel-To-Powder Blush
rated 5 of 5
Gail2 5/7/2009 3:46:00 PM

As experience has taught a gel or creamy blush is so much easier to apply than a powder. With fingers or a sponge we can do it with heightened accuracy, and the effect is natural. Now, Sue Devitt gives us an added bonus with her Microaquatic Gel-To-Powder Blush - once applied it sets to a perfect powdery finish, flattering to skin tones and radiant in appearance. Not only is the formulation of the blush amazing with just right amounts of illuminating shimmer particles, but the colors are ripe, rich in pigment. "Malay Reef" is an uber flattering peony pink and "Marion Reef" is a delicious raspberry. - Gail Cooke

Blush -Face Stockholm - Creme Blush On
rated 5 of 5
Gail2 4/26/2009 11:42:00 AM

No one wants to look made up, but we all need some makeup to compensate for what Mother Nature forgot to give us. In many cases, as in mine, what was neglected was a touch of color to my cheeks. Face Stockholm Creme Blush corrects Mother's oversight with luscious pots of creamy blush that gives faces a very natural, healthy glow. The color can be as subtle as we wish or perhaps more dramatic for evening. The Blush goes on easily, smoothly with sponge or fingertips - no streaking, just a wonderful wash of color. "Milan" (a gorgeous melon) and "Rio" (a peony pink) are my favorites for this season (and, I'm sure, many to come. ) I'm also taken with the state-of-the-art silvertone mirrored compacts that slide easily into pocket or purse. - Gail Cooke
