BB Cream -Garnier - BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector - Light/Medium
ChocolatCake 3/6/2012 9:01:00 PM
I am very "middle-of-the-road" with this product. I like it, but I don't LOVE it. Would I repurchase? Probably not because I don't see myself using it often. The Light/Medium blends into my yellow-toned skin perfectly. It really does even out skin tone and blur out imperfections. Unfortunately, it turns very oily after about an hour. This alone is enough for me to not want to repurchase.

Lipstick -Revlon - ColorBurst in 070 Soft Nude [DISCONTINUED]
ChocolatCake 3/3/2012 7:16:00 PM
First, I will describe my skin tone. I am between MAC NC18-NC20, Vanilla in Revlon PhotoReady, and Golden Fair in BE. In other words, I'm fair with warm golden undertones. Now to the product. This is my favorite drugstore nude ever and rivals my favorite HE nude (Benefit Lady's Choice -- which is more pink). I am a nude lipstick collector, but I really hate the concealer look. I would describe Soft Nude as a creamy peach-beige with a HINT of pink to keep it from being orange. It is very well pigmented and glides on effortlessly. I love it because I don't need a mirror when I put it on. It's very creamy and does not feel heavy on my lips. I deducted one lipstick because it can emphasize flakes if you are not careful, so moisturize before applying and make sure to set it with a gloss! (I prefer BE Buxom in Bunny. Pretty combo). I would not recommend this for gals with pink skin. My best friend tried it on and it didn't do much for her, but MAC Creme d' Nude works great for pink girls. I would absolutely, without a doubt repurchase.

Lipstick -MAC - Watch Me Simmer
ChocolatCake 2/13/2012 2:09:00 AM
I believe this lip color is more suited toward the fair-skinned gals. I'm between NC15 and NC20, and this looks fabulous on me. Watch Me Simmer is from Shop MAC, and it's a very punchy, strong coral color. It shows up as true coral on my lips, and has excellent staying power. Very spring time. I also find it very versatile. I can layer chapstick under it to sheer it out, or wear it full for a dramatic effect. Great to brighten up your face with minimal eye makeup, or great to wear for a night out. I would repurchase if it wasn't LE, but I've heard MAC's Full Speed Sheen Supreme is VERY similar to it. Really glad I purchased it.

Liquid -L'Oreal - True Match Super-Blendable Makeup SPF 17
ChocolatCake 1/22/2012 12:06:00 AM
It should be known that I moisturized correctly AND used a primer before applying this foundation. Words cannot describe how much I hated this foundation. Sure, it blended very nicely, but ... if I were to even TOUCH my face, the makeup would rub off. I accidentally hit my chin with my seat belt, and the seat belt was wearing my makeup. Also, I don't understand how a makeup can be so dry and also so oily at the same time. It accentuated all of my dry patches and kind of just sat on my face. Within an hour, I was a complete oil slick. I had POOLS of oil on the sides of my nose even after setting it with powder. On top of the oil pools, all the dry areas looked AWFUL. I couldn't get it off my face quickly enough. In fact, I went to the drugstore and bought some facial wipes and then wiped it off immediately. I would rather go without makeup than wear this stuff. I really wanted to like it, but it was awful.

Foundations -Cover Girl - Covergirl and Olay Tone Rehab 2 in 1 Foundation
ChocolatCake 1/19/2012 3:24:00 PM
This is a great drugstore find. I finally gave up on my Revlon PhotoReady after I checked my makeup in direct sunlight today, I was much too sparkly. I set out to find something more matte, yet still creamy. I did my research on this product and really thought about it before purchasing. What really drew me to it was that it was mixed with Olay serum. My skin LOVES Olay products, so I thought it would be a win-win; I could cover up my skin while nourishing it. A little about my skin: I have minimal acne scaring, some dry patches (I'm a true combination skin type -- oily nose and forehead, but dry cheeks), and hormonal breakouts. Anyway, back to the product. I picked it up in the second lightest color, Classic Ivory (I am between MAC NC15-NC20, and this is a pretty good match). I love that it has a pump, so it makes it easy for me to not make am mess. I pumped one pump out and it kind of has a mousse-like texture to it. It blends like a dream and covers up my pink scars pretty well; I don't need as much concealer with this product. I would say the finish is satin. It isn't dewy nor matte, but does not look heavy. I would definitely set this with a light powder as it is a little slippery. The price is pretty steep for drugstore ($17), but I had a coupon so I only paid $14. ***EDIT: I stopped using this because it made my face a little too oily, but it's still a great foundation if your skin isn't oily.

Polishes -Sephora - Sephora by OPI Nonfat Soy Half Caff
ChocolatCake 1/19/2012 2:42:00 AM
Awesome nude color! I think it only works on certain skin tones, though. I am an olive-toned fair skinned gal, so it looks great on me. On me, it's a pinky-beige that looks perfect against my skin. It applies like a dream and dries quickly. I love the bottle it comes in, and most of all .. I love the name! Would absolutely repurchase.

Lip Gloss -Bare Escentuals - Buxom Lips - Bunny
ChocolatCake 1/16/2012 3:09:00 AM
I am not entirely sure how or why Bunny has some bad reviews. This gloss is pretty foolproof, IMO. Bunny is a pinky-peach (more on the pink) gloss with a teeny bit of shimmer in it. It's a great natural looking gloss with some color to give it oomph. The plumping is cooling and not stinging which is nice. This is a great gloss to have in one's arsenal because it's so natural looking, not sticky, and looks nice on the lips. The doe-foot applicator is a plus, too.

Primer/ Corrector -Revlon - PhotoReady Perfecting Primer (color 001)
ChocolatCake 1/16/2012 2:34:00 AM
Great little primer. I picked this up for about $11 at Target. I wasn't expecting too much from it, but I thought I'd give it a go. So far, I am very pleased. I have oily combo skin, and most primers are too heavy for me. This one lets the skin breathe, and is a mix between a lotion and a gel. You only need one pump. It's easy to spread. It kept me from powdering my face for about 7 hours. No joke. I would absolutely repurchase.

Liquid -MAC - Matchmaster SPF 15 Foundation
ChocolatCake 1/15/2012 10:28:00 PM
I loved Matchmaster when the woman at MAC put in on me, but I decided I could do without it. The formula isn't anything special and it's hard to work with. I am in-between colors, so I was matched with 1.5. I have minimal acne scars and clear skin. When I pumped it out, it was VERY orange. But, once you blend, it melts into the skin. Let me tell you, YOU HAVE TO BLEND, or else the orange will kind of sit on your face. I returned it because it was just too much work, and it made me break out a few days after using it in three cystic zits. Also, you MUST use a primer with it -- it looks terrible alone.

Blush -MAC - Mineralize Blush - Warm Soul
ChocolatCake 1/9/2012 2:10:00 PM
Warm Soul is an incredibly unique blush, and I have not been able to find a dupe for it. MAC describes Warm Soul as a mid-tone beige with gold pearl. More simply, I would describe it as a rose gold color. Warm Soul is GREAT for fair-skinned girls, and it's even better for golden fair girls. It looks like I'm wearing blush and bronzer all in one. It's not orangey and gives my skin a warm glow. Highly recommended. The only gripe I have is the packaging. The plastic top comes undone every once in a while.

Styling Products -Pureology - Power Dressing
ChocolatCake 1/8/2012 11:38:00 AM
I hardly ever review hair products, but I definitely wanted to review this one. I got this on sale for $9.99, so I couldn't go without trying it out! Power Dressing is a thick, yellow/gold cream that you put in your hair for volume, hold, and shine. It does all of these things! My hairdresser uses it on my short hair to hold the style of the round brush when I blow it out. It does hold the shape of my round brush, and also gives me volume and movement. I couldn't believe how good my hair looked yesterday; it looked like I stepped out of a salon! Great product. I know people don't like the smell, but I quite like it. It smells like pure vanilla to me.

Lips -L'Oreal - Colour Riche Balm
ChocolatCake 1/7/2012 2:02:00 AM
I thought I was sold on Revlon Lip Butters until I tried L'Oreal's LeBalm. I picked up the color in Rose Elixir to go with my fair, yellow-toned skin. I love L'Oreal's version because of how sheer it us. Rose Elixir leaves a really beautiful rose color gloss to my lips. My lips are not very pigmented at all (they blend in with my skin), so any color shows up on my lips. This is effortless and pretty all in one package. I'm sold. Oh, and it actually moisturized my lips. I would repurchase.

Lipstick -Revlon - Colorburst Lip Butter
ChocolatCake 1/4/2012 6:20:00 PM
This is pretty good stuff. I bought mine in Peach Parfait after seeing it on Emma Stone in the ads. On my lips, it's more of a pinky-coral. Less orange, more pink. This is fine with me, because that's what I was hoping it was going to be! The one gripe I have about it is that the glitter in the balms are a little gritty, but I can get past that. They are very smooth to apply and pack a lot of color punch. There's a large variety of colors, but about 10 of them are wearable, IMO. They smell a little like cotton candy, but it's not too strong. If you like Clinique Buttershines, you will LOVE these. For $7, I would repurchase. ***UPDATE: I ended up disliking the glitter in Peach Parfait, so I replaced it with Pink Truffle and I love it. It's almost an exact dupe of BB Brownie, FYI. ***UPDATE UPDATE 1/6: Will not repurchase because I like L'Oreal's version better. Still a good product, though.

Lipstick -BeneFit Cosmetics - full-finish lipstick lady's choice
ChocolatCake 1/4/2012 2:34:00 AM
I think this is a lipstick that every woman should have in her arsenal. It is incredibly versatile and beautiful. Lady's Choice is a unique nude for one important reason -- it's actually a color that can be found in nature. It's not a concealer-lips nude (a la MAC Creme d' Nude), and it's not a browned-orange nude either. I would describe Lady's Choice as a petal nude. It is absolutely perfect, and I never say that about lip colors. As for the formula, it is very creamy, but a bit heavy. I sheer it out by applying a layer or two of balm before application. It's an excellent color for Spring, and it is highly recommended. (For reference -- Revlon ColorStay in Buff, MAC N3, golden-fair undertones).
