This is part of the revamped Jouer line currently available only at Henri Bendel and jouercosmetics.com. Vert is a midtone shimmer verdant olive. Not your typical army fatigue olive--add in a touch of leaf green and you have the shade of Vert. It provides enough color to add definition to the eye but is not a very dramatic shade. I wish it were a touch more pigmented, but the shade is so pretty (part of Frieda Pinto's Golden Globe look, allegedly) and the color is so flattering to my green eyes that it's earned the 4 flowers.Comes with a sharpener. This is from the revamped Jouer line currently only available at Henri Bendels and at jouercosmetics.com. I have a million eye shadows and so shadows rarely surprise me--rarely do I now so strikingly unique or infinitely flattering that not only do I have to have it, but I start wearing it nearly daily! This shadow is hard to describe (click continued to see pics). It's a bronzey pewter brown color that goes on smoothly and has great pigmentation. It blends well and lasts all day, but it's the color that I find really great. Brings out green eyes very well. This is the color that Freida Pinto supposedly wore to the Golden Globes and no, it hasn't made me look like her yet, but it's doing the best it can! Amaretto is on the left.
Gels/Soaps -Red Flower - Purifying Body Wash Ocean
Aurelie 3/22/2009 8:01:00 PM
I think this scent is probably somewhat of an acquired taste, but I for one adore it! It really does smell like the ocean, including a salty/briney note. Definitely unique. The formula lathers well and is non-drying, and is free of parabens. The scent is addictive and really does transport you to a warm beach!
Lipstick -Laura Mercier - Stickgloss in Tiger Lily
Aurelie 3/22/2009 7:52:00 PM
This is a gorgeous new addition to Laura Mercier's StickGloss collection, limited edition for spring as part of the gorgeous Gilded Garden collection. Tiger Lily is stunning and unique--a sheer peachy pink with multidimensional shimmer. The shimmer is what makes the color really stand out, it makes the lips look full and adds a unique finish. It doesn't last long--none of the StickGlosses do--but is hydrating while it's on your lips and is paraben-free to boot. Click on continued for pics
Highlighters -Laura Mercier - Gilded Garden ShimmerBloc
Aurelie 3/22/2009 7:47:00 PM
This is Laura's newest ShimmerBloc, part of her spring Gilded Garden Collection. The product is not only beautiful to look at (click continued for pic) but does it's job well! It's a combination of a pinky silvery champagne-y background with a floral pattern, adorned with a fuchsia, deep coral and deep browny plummy flower. While swirled together, you get a gorgeous pink glow, slightly cool but nothing evoking the tin man. It's the perfect spring highlight for cheekbones. I generally stick to warm colors, but this definitely works for me. Retails for $38 and is almost too pretty to use but worth it when you do.
I really like this mascara. Because mascara tends to get in my eyes a bit, I've been on the hunt for one that is free of parabens/pthalates, etc. While I wouldn't advise eating the stuff, it's 'natural' enough that I feel comfortable using it daily. I have blonde, thin, stubby little lashes and this does a good job of volumizing and making them a deep inky black. The mascara also layers well without clumping so that you can easily go from natural to dramatic. This is a pretty dry formula, so if you prefer a wetter application, this probably isn't for you. A bit steep at $18, but nothing shocking.
Eyeliner -Laura Mercier - Black Violet kohl pencil
Aurelie 3/22/2009 7:36:00 PM
An exceptionally smooth eyeliner in a gorgeous blackened violet color. Definitely on the cooler side--there are no red tones. Glides on like a dream but be forewarned if you have oily lids--this has total smear/smudge potential. I wish the tip were a bit finer so that I could get a thinner line closer to the lashes (a la liquid liner) but the color is so unique and gorgeous on green eyes that this is a winner nonetheless for me.
Concealers -Prescriptives - Site Unseen Brightening Concealer
Aurelie 3/16/2009 8:25:00 PM
I'm a concealer junkie and really hated this. It has virtually no coverage and no noticeable brightening effect. In fact, I look more tired wearing this than I do without concealer or with any other one. It looks cakey and dry under the eye, doesn't build, and the brush does not apply it smoothly. The only good thing is that the colors are good. For a brightening-type concealer, I prefer Lancome Flash Retouche.
Eyeliner -Chantecaille - Luminous Eyeliner - Pianissimo
Aurelie 12/28/2008 12:35:00 PM
One of my (very few) talents in life is being able to apply liquid eyeliner, so I collect them like they're going out of style! I love the definition a sharp, think line right at the base of the lashes gives and since I love Chantecaille, I was excited to try their liners. The color I got is Pianissimo which looks light gray in the tube but has a gorgeous almost iridescent blue/purple quality. This isn't a very dark liner, but is definitely enough to define eye shape and add life to the eyes. I adore the color, but that's where my love affair ends. The real problem is that the formula, even with copious shaking, can be a bit to thin/sheer, and so you don't always get a solid pigmented line. I have to go over the line several times in certain spots to make it truly opaque, otherwise in some areas the skin shows through and the liner looks off. I also wish the brush was even thinner but that's not the dealbreaker, it's the formula. Perhaps the other shades are more pigmented? Too bad because the color is unique and exquisite and the liner does last the whole day.
I almost feel bad giving this product a not-so-great review since the prior reviews seem to herald it. I really like the applicator and the smooth texture of the product, but it just didn't provide enough coverage. I thought the advertised light diffusion would help but it was unnoticeable. Sadly, another concealer bites the dust!
Lipstick -Lipstick Queen - by Poppy -Saint Natural
Aurelie 11/20/2008 9:07:00 PM
This is a sheerish earthy brown-orange-red on me. Nothing 'natural' about it and certainly not the pink with the almond undertone Poppy describes. I tossed it. Actually, none of the LQ colors work for me except Sinner Pink. They all have a strange undertone. The Nude is orangey brown as well.
Mascara -Make Up For Ever - Smoky Lash Extra Black Mascara
Aurelie 11/19/2008 9:30:00 PM
This is a rich black formula that provides great length and volume and doesn't contain parabens! My only problem with it is that it flakes like mad! there are tons of little black flakes under my eyes by the end of the day, sadly.
Blush -Three Custom Color Specialists - Watercolors for Cheeks in Violet Lotus
Aurelie 11/2/2008 8:41:00 PM
It's difficult for someone warm-toned to find a plummy blush that's flattering, but I've found it in Violet Lotus. he shade is a rosey plummy shade but there's an undertone of warm nude almost that makes the blush wearable and even flattering on a pale warm-toned girl. Looks deep in the pot but goes on sheer. Can't be easily built and is light in texture.
Lipstick -Bobbi Brown - Treatment Lip Shine SPF 15 - Naked Pink
Aurelie 10/31/2008 11:52:00 PM
Very nice deep pinky brown with almost an imperceptible plummy hint. Texture is less glossy than you'd expect based on the name of the formula but does last. I like the formula but wish it came in a more traditional lipstick tube package. It takes quite a bit of swiveling to access product and there's not much product there! Overall a nice everyday lipstick with some depth if you can deal with the tube.
Lip Gloss -Unlisted Brand - Balmshell Lipgloss in Darling You Look Fabulous
Aurelie 10/28/2008 10:36:00 PM
For those who haven't seen the Balmshell line, the glosses are packaged in a dual ended tube (see attached pic). One side holds the gloss, the other a piece of floating artwork that can be removed and attached to the enclosed key ring. This shade's artwork features a woman preparing for a night on the town, wrapped in a towel. She slips behind a dressing screen and emerges in a cocktail dress, perfectly coiffed! Too cute!! The shade is a sheer nearly hot pink without the blueness of a magenta (see attached pic). It's sheer enough to not be overwhelming but has enough pigment to add a dose of color and brighten up the face. No shimmer. The gloss is totally non-sticky and is incredibly moisturizing, almost like a balm. The fragrance is vanilla with a hint of cherry and the product contains no parabens. The reason for the 4 star review is the price. $22 is pretty pricey!
