Scrubs -Neutrogena - Oil-Free Acne Wash pink grapefruit foaming scrub
AngelaBetsey 8/8/2009 9:34:00 AM
I have thick oily skin that usually doesn't mind any products, but I have learned I need to stay away from Neutrogena scrubs. I tried the Deep Cleansing one last summer and broke out in little whiteheads like mad (at age 46, no less) but figured it had something to do with the menthol in the product. I love the grapefruit wash so thought I'd try this. After 2 or 3 uses I have had a continuous stream of whiteheads, again, and the skin around my mouth is so dry. I'm not sensitive, I can honestly use just about anything, but there's clearly a clogging agent in their scrubs that doesn't work, at least for me. Thank goodness I saved the receipt! But you may have more luck. Just save the receipt.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Lipglass in Lychee Luxe

I wear pinks and berries almost exclusively, but I do have a lot of yellow in my wardrobe, and when I wear that color I like to wear makeup in the peachy pink family. Based on the good reviews I picked this gloss up. When you look at the tube you think "Holy cow, I"m going to be neon" but it's not like that. I can't wear a lot of it, but lightly applied, it's really lovely and flattering to my pink-toned skin.

Cleansers -Serious Skin Care - Glycolic Cleanser
AngelaBetsey 6/27/2009 10:23:00 PM
I can see this being a great cleanser for many skin types. I have oily skin so I need something stronger in summer, but in winter it will be my morning, in-shower cleanser. And I say in-shower because of the cleanser's strange resemblance to Elmer's Glue is consistency, color and smell. It takes several splashes to rinse it from your skin, so it will work best for me in the shower, and again, I don't love the smell. But it left me soft, moisturized and not dry, and like I said I would bet many people would find this works for them, once they get past the whole glue thing.

Gels/Soaps -100 Percent Pure - Pink Grapefruit Shower Gel

As another reviewer said, this is like water - add it to your shower poof and it goes right through. Twice I've used this in the shower and twice a minute in I'm out of suds. For $15? No thanks. Too bad, the scent is great and I like the concept.

Skincare - Body -Unlisted Brand - Surgi-Wax Microwave Hair Remover
AngelaBetsey 6/14/2009 4:08:00 PM
I have used ZipWax for years and years on my bikini area, it's the only area I wax. I'm a pretty good waxer at this point, and the hair there has totally lessened over the years, it's not nearly as thick as it once was. But ZipWax is no longer available at any retail place I frequent, so I needed to find a replacement. I don't like muslin strips, I don't feel they do the job. So I tried this. I have an old microwave and after 2 tries of microwaving at 1 minute intervals with no melting occurring, I said "screw this" and took it out of the microwave and put on a small pan of water to boil, once boiling, I placed the tub into the pan, with the water coming up more than halfway up the side, and voila, perfect, controlled melting. WHEN YOU WAX: Cover your area with newspapers, do a small area at a time. I had no trouble with it "going everywhere", as some people did, but it WILL drip from tub to your skin, after all, it's a melted substance. Practice practice! When it's just hardened, not too hard, left the end up and whip it off in a couple tugs. It really doesn't hurt much, if it does press your hand down on the area immediately afterward. I have saved hundreds of dollars by doing this myself and I do a pretty good job, and this stuff works ok.

Scrubs -Serious Skin Care - Glowbrasion

I have seasonal oily skin, very thick and large pored. I love Dr. Brandt's scrub but at $75 I can't keep buying that. I am so glad this facial polish was included in a kit from HSN. First off it's pretty, it's the color of raspberry sherbet with a very subtle pleasant scent. You only need a little, and it's that fine fine particle scrub so you know you're really exfoliating. My skin felt fabulous afterward, beyond clean. It's gentle enough to use every day and I think I probably will.

Cleansers -Neutrogena - Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser
AngelaBetsey 5/31/2009 10:05:00 AM
I have mature but oily skin, with the occasional breakout. This is my new favorite summertime wash, when I need to step up my cleaning due to more oil production and sweat. It smells great, cleans well and doesn't dry - but remember, I'm oily to start. I'm starting to look for other grapefruit products, because I like it so well. It's much cheaper than Origins Mint Wash, which I also like.

Mascara -Lancome - Fatale [DISCONTINUED]
AngelaBetsey 3/15/2009 9:19:00 PM
Recently there was a poll on the makeup board, what's your least favorite high end mascara? and this one was up there. I don't get why. Ok, the brush - it's more of a comb - is weird. Having practiced with a similar comb with a mascara by Bare Escentuals, I had no problem with this. Just takes practice, then it's great. Like every Lancome mascara I've ever used, I love this. Long, think black lashes - so dramatic it's my evening mascara. I got it free in the recent makeup giveaway at the department stores, but I'd shell out the dough for it.

Let's first say this is not a miracle product, at least not for every skin type. I am oily with large pores and impacted blackheads. Those people who say their blackheads disappeared must have had little bitty guys who sit on the surface, because mine, when extracted, are the length of a baby's pinky nail - no amount of cleansing is going to magically extricate that. My first week, my nose broke out (not uncommon for me) and I was super oily, in 20 degree January. But that passed. I DO feel super clean, and I really do see the pores minimizing. I am very pleased about that. Most importantly, I have a trouble pore under my nose that constantly fills up - i extract, it fills up again. It had not filled up in a month, and that's almost amazing. So the thing works - ONCE the pores are clean. The real test will be this summer, when I'm an oil slick. But while it's not the end all be all, I'm pretty pleased with it. Is it worth $195? No, but I'll keep it.

Lip Gloss -Christian Dior - Creamy Almond (341) Creme de Gloss
AngelaBetsey 2/8/2009 10:27:00 AM
I was in Sephora with a $20 gift card I simply had to get rid of when I went over to Dior to find a gloss I was looking for and instead saw this. What a simply gorgeous color. A medium pink (blue, not yellow) with a touch of shimmer. And you can actually see the color on your lips, it's well pigmented. I'm blonde, brown eyed with fair skin - I can see me using this almost every day. Love it love it, and I own too many glosses to count but this one goes to the top.

Hair -L'Oreal - Elnett Hairspray
AngelaBetsey 1/19/2009 1:06:00 PM
First off I think it's important to note what kind of hair one has. Mine is thin, fine and has no body. So I need a heavy duty spray or spritz if my hair is going to stay in place. This isn't it. It goes on nice and light and I actually like the smell, but the hold totally is not there, it flops within an hour. I just finished a $1 bottle of White Rain Spritz and the hold was much better. For me and my hair, it's a no go. For someone who doesn't require as much hold, maybe worth a try.

Treatments -MD Formulations - Continiuous Renewal Serum
AngelaBetsey 5/26/2008 10:56:00 AM
I was looking for a serum but I've got oily skin and anti-aging is not my biggest concern, and most serums target that problem. This was one that did not so I gave it a shot. This promised to refine pores and promote cell turnover. I use it faithfully every morning and I really do see a difference. My skin seems clearer - and I have deeply imbedded clogged pores - and is absolutely softer. I often see no results at all when I use a skin product so that's saying something for me. It's worth the $50 as a special treatment - I won't be buying anything else in that capacity - and will definitely buy it again.

Fragrances -mark - Pure
AngelaBetsey 4/27/2008 9:54:00 AM
I got this when it first debuted maybe two months ago and could not believe how badly it smelled, both in the bottle and on me. It went back pronto and I marveled that Mark had the guts to put such a scent on the market. Yet for some people it smells wonderful! Crazy, go figure. For me, it was just awful, not even a scent I didn't like, a truly awful scent

Primer/ Corrector -Bare Escentuals - Bare Vitamins Skin Rever Upper
AngelaBetsey 3/20/2008 7:58:00 PM
I had bought this and used it so sporadically I didn't see any kind of results so I bought another bottle and resolved to use it every day, since Leslie from BE said you will see results over time. Well, 2 weeks later I DID see results - the whole texture of my skin changed and not in a good way. Gone was my soft skin, and it was replaced by a texture I didn't like at all. I exfoliated but it took a week of non-use for my usual skin texture to return. Also dried me out. So, not good! Maybe I'll try again in summer when I'm more oily.
