Styling Products -Aveda - Light Elements Smoothing Fluid
rated 5 of 5

A definite MUST have, at least for me. I usually put it on my hair dry, after styling to make the fuzz and flyaways tame down -- and it works!! If you use the right amount, it does not make the hair look greasy - just shiny and healthy. If I don't have this in my hair, my hair is sooo flyaway! I use it probably 4 times a week but because it takes such a tiny amount ( a dot only), it lasts forever! I've had mine a year and STILL have half a bottle :)

Styling Products -Redken - Smooth Down Heat Glide ] [DISCONTINUED]

I'm really pleased with this straightener/heat protectant. It really increases shine, and it does a great job at controlling fuzzies. Usually when I use a straightening iron, even good ones, my hair looks dry, but this protects it so that it looks amazingly healthy and hydrated even after styling. I've never tried other similar products, though, like CHI, but since I'm so pleased with this I don't know if I even will!

Styling Products -Frederic Fekkai - Glossing Cream with Olive Oil
rated 3 of 5

I think this is a good product for people with coarser hair. I have very fine hair and it was just too heavy for my hair - just didn't work out, and I won't be repurchasing. But i had a roommate who used this (she had coarse, thick hair) and it made her hair brillantly shiny and soft. It only takes a pea size amount so the bottle lasts for-ev-er, so given that, it's not expensive.

Toners -Burt's Bees - Garden Tomato Toner
rated 1 of 5
ashleydutta 5/9/2009 3:53:00 PM

I bought this hoping it could clean out my pores, but, meh, haven't seen any difference in my pores :(. I've been using it 3 weeks. It's really been a disappointment because it dries my skin out a lot, and I have an oily T zone so I thought it wouldn't. I have reduced to applying it once every other day. I have seen NO benefits from this toner! :( Pros: I love the fresh garden smell, and it feels very refreshing. Definitely gets any residue off my face. The bottle is pretty, but heavy and terrible for traveling b/c it's glass. Cons: Over drying - the main ingredient is alcohol!! why would Burt's Bees do this? it's well known in the skin care world that alcohol is bad for any skin type! Makes skin tight and flaky. Does not deep clean pores, or tighten them at all. Will not repurchase.

Treatments -Burt's Bees - avocado hair treatment
rated 3 of 5
ashleydutta 5/1/2009 3:43:00 PM

Pros: smells delicious! I like to put it on my hair just so my hair will smell this good - has a kiwi pear tropicalish smell, Mmm It made my hair a tad more shiny Cons: I didn't find it moisturizing at all! It doesn't feel like it has a conditioning quality to it at all, which is weird since it does have lots of oils in it...but they just don't seem to lock into my hair when suspended in this forumal that feels kind of waxy honestly. NOT even close to Aveda deep conditioning treatments or The Body Shop one. It also takes a lot of the product to spread on my hair - I think using it 2 times will take the whole tube! But.... My husband loves it! he has a REALLY oily scalp but dry hair, and he thinks this is perfect since it doesn't add any more oil to his scalp, and it DOES moisturize his hair making it soft for days. It just depends on hair type, I guess.

Moisturizers -Unlisted Brand - Extra Virgin Olive Oil
rated 5 of 5
ashleydutta 5/1/2009 3:23:00 PM

Miracle for bringing out glowy, radiant, soft, even toned skin! But I only use it as a weekly exfoliant -- if I put it on and leave it on as a moisturizer it breaks me out -- too heavy for my pores. BUT this is what I do: cover my face in EVOO, then gently rub in upward circular motions brown sugar. Rinse off with warm water (you may have to wash your face too to get all the oil off - I wash it with warm water and gently olive oil soap). Ta-Da - radiant skin! Works so well my husband instantly notices, on the on the day i do this I don't wear any foundation/blush nothing because my face looks so great without it! Results only last 2 days though, but by doing this weekly, you can keep your face in great shape!

Liquid -Clinique - Almost Makeup [DISCONTINUED]
rated 1 of 5
ashleydutta 4/11/2009 1:19:00 PM

I'm replacing my old review with this one -- I hate this product ! The first week or two I admit I liked it, but soon the pigment started separating out from some icky runny oil -- I just get runny oil out of the tube, then some product comes out but it's SO oily too! Now that it is warmer outside it just slides off my face even after 3 hours! Plus, it makes my face sticky, and for a "light" makeup feels very much like makeup -- the Clinique Perfectly Real is MUCH better and feels like nothing at all. wish I could return but I've had it too long. UPDATE -- in addition to everything else, I found this has clogged my pores terribly! I worked to get my pores down to normal size the last couple years, and this stuff has shot them back up to enormous size with black gook :(

Styling Products -Aveda - Volumizing Tonic
rated 5 of 5
ashleydutta 3/31/2009 9:59:00 PM

Truly gives exceptional volume at the roots! I recently got my hair cut shorter and wanted to have a more fluffy full look - and this does just that. I'm so pleased with this product that I'm going to buy more as soon as I run out - I haven't found anything to equal it. It is a bit expensive but it lasts a while because you do not have to squirt much for it to work. In fact, if you apply very much it gets sticky. So just a little will do the trick for full voluminous hair! (and I have very fine hair, so this is pretty amazing stuff if it can do that!)

Lip Gloss -Clinique - Full Potential Lips Plump and Shine gloss in Cherry Bomb
rated 4 of 5
ashleydutta 3/31/2009 9:56:00 PM

This is a great gloss. I didn't believe it could make my thin lips look more full and plush, but it DOES have a plumping effect. And even after the lip gloss is gone (it stays a long time for gloss), my lips still look smoother and fuller. (no tingling). I really like it because it improves the texture of my lips. I like the color a lot too - it is not red, but a sheer pinky with a red tint. The only problem is that it is really sticky. but that I can live with. :)

Mascara -Max Factor - Volume Couture - Rich Black
rated 2 of 5
ashleydutta 3/27/2009 10:11:00 PM

This is a good product, but it's not spectacular. It goes on smoothly, and I like the small brush that is easy to manage. It definitely adds volume, but not a whole lot of length. it does not smudge or flake, and only clumps lashes together if you put too many coats (which I do...ooops.) **EDIT** - I used this product a couple of weeks before writing the first review. But then, after about 3 more weeks..I noticed my eyelashes were getting dry and brittle!! They look less healthy :-( I was using Neutrogena Healthy Volume before and that kept them moisturized and lush -- this Max Factor is just too harsh and chemically!!! Will NOT repurchase. Am trying Fresh Supernova and Firebird because they have panthenol and natural oils.

Tinted Moisturizer -Christian Dior - Hydraction Deep Hydration Skin Tint SPF 20 [DISCONTINUED]
rated 2 of 5
ashleydutta 3/26/2009 6:40:00 PM

This was definitely not worth the $44 to me! I've had drugstore brands that worked as well. I don't like the texture on my skin - it kind of looks pasty, definitely not "dewey" and radiant. There are not many color choices, so it's hard to match, too. It did give some coverage but just doesn't make my skin look nice like Clinique does. It also didn't feel very moisturizing, yet left my face looking really greasy a few hours later - if I touch my face, it streaks, eeww! It also makes my face feel itchy. I'm taking it back and exchanging it for Laura Mercier or Clinique.

Eyeliner -Almay - Intense i-liner in Raisin Quartz
rated 5 of 5
ashleydutta 3/26/2009 5:59:00 PM

This eyeliner (I have the liquid kind) is a beautiful color - it's a deep eggplant color with a gray-silver shimmer. Goes with many color eye shadows, or looks great alone. Nice for green eyes, but I think it will also look nice on brown eyes too.

Mascara -Neutrogena - Healthy Volume
rated 3 of 5
ashleydutta 3/17/2009 5:46:00 PM

I give this 5 lippies for an every-day mascara. It's now my favorite day time mascara and perfect for going to school or work. Gives nice volume, acceptable length, and the best part is does not smudge, smear or flake at ALL. Holds up really well. And I love the fact it has olive oil and nutrients to condition my lashes. It's so much better than my old day time mascara from Cliniqe, which smudges easily. however, if you're wanting a dramatic, long lash look for a special occasion this isn't the best mascara for that. **EDIT** I liked this mascara at first, but it dries up SO quickly! After 2 weeks it was hard to get any product on my lashes. I've had it one month and just threw it away because it was so dried out it wasn't putting any product on my lashes :( not worth the $. I'll try L'Oreal Bare Naturale instead...

Lip Gloss -Wet 'n' Wild - Diamond Brilliance - 614 Shannons Shiny Bit
rated 5 of 5
ashleydutta 3/17/2009 1:26:00 PM

Wow - I stumbled upon a great product! I was in the drugstore and this was on sale for $1.60. The color is beautiful! I can't believe how cheap it is because it is just as good as expensive lipglosses in my opinion. I like the texture of the gloss (it's not super goopy or sticky like some), and it is moisturizing. The color is peachy-nude - so it looks really natural as if your lips are naturally a little more rosy, not like you have on lipstick. The shine is also perfect :-). If I find this again (was on clearance in the drugstore), I'll definitely repurchase.

Cleansers -Burt's Bees - Deep Cleansing Cream with Soap Bark and Chamomile
rated 4 of 5
ashleydutta 3/8/2009 12:43:00 AM

EDIT/UPDATE: This is still a nice cleanser, but I decided to look for something that takes my makeup off better and cleanses better overall. I still may repurchase for a gentle morning cleanser, though. Also I relized the tingly feel from the cleanser is from menthol which isn't that good for the skin. OLD REVIEW: This cleanser makes my face feel soo refreshed and clean and tingly! I look forward to washing my face and have to force myself not to wash it several times a day just because of how good my skin feels afterward. It's like a spa experience. The cleanser is creamy and rich with a wonderful natural herby smell. Mmmm. The best part is my pores have gotten smaller!!! I am so thrilled to find a cleanser that shrinks pores and lives up to its claims. it is true that it doesn't completely remove makeup, but I just quickly wash with an olive oil soap or use my toner to get off anything that's left, and it's no problem. happy, happy skin!
