Lip Treatments -Avon - Beyond Color Lip Recovery Cream
rated 3 of 5
jinglecat 5/11/2005 6:32:00 PM

The initial sale price at 3.99 made this easy to try, full price is 8.00. The product is smooth without being tacky or thick like typical lip gloss, and manages to be surprisingly long lasting. I also find it very moisturising, and used it for overnight application.(and could still feel it on my lips when I awoke!) My gripe with the stuff, is the same one I find with all Avon lip products- the color pallette is wholely lacking in sophistication, and difficult to divine color from brochure or web site. I tried this in Peachy Cream (which is much deeper, more tawny than shown, and like every other avon shade in the nude/brown family, too orangey? just off in a way that never looks authentic on me), pink charm (wich lists as cool, but I think more nuetral-warm, a salmony coral that looked the best of all on my warm toned skin)and golden rose (this came out too cool on me, despite the presence of gold) The shimmer effect in the product is subtle and has no gritty feel to it. THe colors are sheer, so fairly forgiving for cool or warm complections anyway. The applicator is the twist the end and a plunger pushes the product into the brush type. My experience with these has been that metering product is difficult, resulting in too little or too much gloss dispensed, but this one is better than many. Definately will re-buy, even at full price. UPDATE: Boy this stuff ran out fast. I would not buy at full price, and not at half price unless new colors come out that are better. I'm bringing my overall rating down to 3, since colors may be fine for you, but just not compelling enough for me. Also found the packaging to be an ass-pain ultimately- just give me a doe foot on a wand.

Self Tanners -Jergens - Natural Glow - Medium

This is like self-tanner light, in a very good way. It allows you to build deeper color easily, giving a natural tone. I like the way it takes the day-glo white edge off, and is very forgiving about application- no dark patches or obvious gaps. But unlike many self-tanners, it gives a beliveable wear-off. It's moisture power is fine, but not super. But used faithfully every day gave enough for my skin. The smell is unoffensive, slightly tan lotiony. Definately a rebuy.

Lip Treatments -Palmers - Shea Butter Formula with Vitamin E
rated 4 of 5

As I try various balms over the years, I can always come back to this one. It is very soothing, and makes your lips feel soft, never greasy or waxy. For cold weather it needs reapplication. It works great if your lips are already cracked and dry, offering instant relief and seems to speed recovery better than petrolum based balms for me. The smell is yummy, the over size stick easy to apply, and makes a great moisturizer for hands or cheeks in a pinch.

Bath Treatments -Olay - Moisturinse in Shower Body Lotion - Normal to Dry
rated 5 of 5
jinglecat 4/29/2005 1:39:00 PM

I love this product and will not be without it! It saves me time as it offers me enough moisture to skip lotion.(I use the extra-dry formulatio) If I am very dry, I may add lotion to my calves, but still think this product a bargain for handling everything else. It also makes a great primer for spray on self tanner, helping to facilitate even coverage and saving the trouble of having to go back over your entire body with another product. The scent is pleasent and unobtrusive post shower. The package is designed cap on base so product is allways ready to dispense. Genius!

Liquid -Revlon - Age Defying Light Makeup with Botafirm SPF30 [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
jinglecat 4/29/2005 1:30:00 PM

I have acne prone skin, with some sun dmge and fine llines. This product gives me the minimum leval of spf I'm looking for and saves me from applying extra products. It is slightly heavy, but does not cause any irritation or breakouts on me. The coverage is light, but it does even out tone well and is the only foundation that I can wear over the portions of my face with large pores and not have them emphasised! It doesn't make my skin look flawless, but it imparts a happy glow and seems to downplay my skin flaws. I have both light and the illuminator, and plan to buy a deeper summer shade to go with my fake tan :)

Conditioner -Alterna - Caviar Age Protectant Conditioner
rated 5 of 5
jinglecat 4/29/2005 3:23:00 AM

This is a deceptively effective product.Using on my med-fine texture, permed, colored hair, it didn't give me that just conditioned silky tangle free feeling on the rinse. Uh-oh. But actually what it did was much better. My hair was totally conditioned without sacrificing ANY body! After using the same bottle for 3 months, I am totally sold and have already bought it again. The package is fabulous to look at, and makes me smile. It is rigid, not squeezable, so when the product is low, I store it upside down.

Shampoo -Alterna - Alterna Age Free Caviar Shampoo
rated 4 of 5
jinglecat 4/29/2005 3:14:00 AM

I had the worst sensation of being a sucker after plunking down $40 for the shampoo and conditioner. Fortunately it is a great product, which totally saved my hair from a cut to rid it of overprocessed disaster! The bottle lasted nearly 3 months of daily use(my hair is only chin length), so I actually find it to be economical for the result. The fragrance is nice, low key and clean. I've since bought other shampoos in the Alterna line, this is still the best.

Lotions/ Creams -Bath and Body Works - Le Couvent des Minimes - Skin Softening BODY BALM - Honey and Shea
rated 4 of 5
jinglecat 4/29/2005 2:21:00 AM

I got this lotion as a free 1.7 oz sample, which is big enough to use many times. It's ridiculously overpriced,so I'm not sure I would buy it, even though I rather like it. At first it seemed entirely too greasy, but it quickly absorbed into my skin and left it very smooth, but because of the initial greasy feel, I now only use it at night. What I like most about the product is the scent- it is entirely novel, and certainly of honey. Sweet, but not in that obnoxiously overt sugar cookie way, this has a warmth and subtlty to it, and simple. You can almost taste it in the back of your throat, without making you hungry or smelling like a bakery. The scent is what totally grabs me about this stuff.

Lip Treatments -Neutrogena - Lip Nutrition Berry Smooth Balm
rated 2 of 5
jinglecat 4/29/2005 2:01:00 AM

First of all, the smell is so canned and cheap, maybe appealing to a 12 yr old? Like weak cherry lifesaver masking plastic. The texture seems thick, but warmth of skin thins it out, perhaps too much for what I wanted. (A balm to protect in winter)The pink beads? I expected them to liquify, but I guess they are supposed to exfoliate. In actuality, they annoy, as you try to remove them so it does'nt look like you've got food stuck on your mouth. But the real icing on the cake is that the product actually seems to make my lips drier...I am seriously begining to question Neutrogena products, the old core line was consistent and reliable, the expansion products are high on hype, price, and disappointment.

Lip Treatments -Bath and Body Works - Aromatherapy Remedies-Cold & Sinus Therapy Lip and Face Balm
rated 5 of 5
jinglecat 4/29/2005 1:46:00 AM

I am totally in love with this balm! It has a great blend of vanilla and mint, very calming. (Not at all like their vanilla-mint stick balm of the 90's if you know 'em. Had to stop using bbw stick balms because they actually dehydrated my lips!) This one is a soft, waxy balm with enough slip to feel easy and smooth on. I use it before bed. It has replaced my tube of Neutrogena instant lip remedy, which is still a decent product, but the aromatherapy aspect of the bbw is not lost on me, and it keeps my lips hydrated all night in my dry house.

Lip Treatments -Avon - Beyond Colour Plumping Lip Conditioner with Retinol SPF 15
rated 4 of 5
jinglecat 4/29/2005 12:59:00 AM

If you get this on one of their 50% off sales, it's only $4. I have gone through about 5 tubes since last summer. You have to keep applying it, and the tubes go down quick, but it leaves a satiny finish and a creamy texture, neither too slippery or waxy.It is a translucent cream color,w/hints of SUBTLE sparkle and your hair won't get stuck in it.Plumping?? Not that I can measure beyond what my lips usually are when hydrated. But it looks REALLY good on... 10/05 WHAT DID THEY DO TO MY FAVORITE LIP PRIMER??? IT STINKS.. literally, the fragrance has changed along with the packaging, and it now smells so repugnently of bug killer that I can not use. F@#$*!

Self Tanners -Neutrogena - Self Tanning Spray
rated 3 of 5
jinglecat 4/28/2005 8:29:00 PM

For me, spray on will replace rub on. You can finally tan the back of your hand without hassle! This is'nt fool-proof, however. You need to be able to work confidently and fast. If you can't spray-paint something without drips, skips and runs, this is not for you, and you'll be rubbing to even it out. It will make a fog and you will have overspray, so don't work near grandma's fine linnen. The smell of this is like stale Heineken beer,, but did not linger too long after on me. (I avoid breathing during application anyway.) I am fair, and buy med shade self tanner. The Nuetrogena did'nt develope as much color as I expected. I had better color, and good fragrance, with the SallyHansen spray on. N. is a bigger can for the money and a finer atomization, with no sputtering used upside down. I would rebuy with good sale price or coupon, but not my fav. (After reading my review I'm struck by what I'll go through to enhance the appearence of cellulite!)

Lip Treatments -Sally Hansen - Lip Conditioner and Plumper
rated 2 of 5
jinglecat 4/27/2005 6:20:00 PM

I really like the smell (clean and mildly minty), color and texture of this wand applied conditioner. It's creamy white and sheer, with a dewy, not shiny finish. Unfortunately it has little staying power, and while my lips feel moisturised while it's on, theres no residual moisturising effect once it's gone. If you don't mind reapplying every 30 min. you'll be fine.

Treatments -Neutrogena - Advanced Solutions Facial Peel [DISCONTINUED]
rated 2 of 5
jinglecat 4/27/2005 5:36:00 PM

I would spend twice the amt. if it actually produced results. I was hoping for a product that would help me refine overall texture and fade blemish scars.Used as directed, the product is not at all irritating to my skin, however to the nose, it has an odd unpleasent odor. And what's this mushroom protein warning on label all about? I'm still using it, mostly to justify the$30. Big Letdown- expected more from Nuetrogena.
