Shampoo -L'Oreal - ColorVive Shampoo
rated 5 of 5

This is called Elvive here in Australia and is one of my absolute favourite shampoos. I feel that it does an excellent job of cleansing my scalp (which tends to get greasy, particularly when the roots start growing in!), without drying out the ends of my hair. No shampoo on this earth makes my hair colour last longer but this one certainly doesn't strip it out. I've repurchased this numerous times. I love it. No need to pay big $$ for shampoo - this is salon quality at a fraction of the price IMO.

Primer/ Corrector -Baby Pink - T-Zone Cover
rated 5 of 5
stargazer_lily 6/7/2007 1:32:00 AM

This didn't work for me as a primer for my t-zone (doesn't control oil that well - I prefer Milky Base). BUT I find this an absolute winner as an EYESHADOW PRIMER! Try it out! It keeps my eyeshadow on much longer than usual and makes application effortlessly smooth. For this reason alone, I would repurchase. For those having difficulty finding this brand, I suggest www.sasa.com - a great website. **EDIT Nov 08 - this appears to be unavailable at sasa.com now unfortunately. I am still using this product (I have backups) but I am not sure where I will find it when I run out.

Lotions/ Creams -Crabtree & Evelyn - La Source Hand Therapy
rated 5 of 5
stargazer_lily 6/7/2007 1:13:00 AM

I treated myself to a tube of this and I am not disappointed. I used it overnight and I just loved it. It's chock-full of shea butter which does a marvelous job of hydrating my hands and bad bad cuticles. It is surprisingly not too greasy - it absorbs completely after a few minutes. I really noticed an improvement in the quality of my skin while I was using this. Unfortunately I am at the end of the tube now and am struggling to get the last bits out (I'll buy the pump pack next time because the metal tube is quite impractical). I am now using QV Skin Repair which is ok but is nowhere near as nice/effective as La Source Hand Therapy. Highly recommended.

Lip Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Lucas' Papaw Ointment
rated 5 of 5

DUDE! This stuff is so awesome. If you ever get a chance to buy some, stock up!! I use it as an overnight lip treatment. I compare it to Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream - similar texture, no crazy herbal smell (smells like vanilla instead), similar results, far less expensive (about $4-5 Australian). You can buy this in a tube or a big jar. I prefer the tube. My BF also uses this for his chapped lips with great results. This is useful for any dry skin condition - I like to slather my nose in it when I have a cold. Good for cuticles as well. GO BUY SOME NOW! This is a HG item for me. =)

Powder -Physicians Formula - Mineral Wear Talc-Free Mineral Loose Powder
rated 2 of 5
stargazer_lily 6/7/2007 1:00:00 AM

This is wrong for me. 1) It doesn't mattify at all. 2) It made my large pores look even larger. For these reasons I had to give it away to my mum (who loves it incidentally!) If you don't have these issues with your skin, then you will no doubt fall in love with this product. It's quite a shame it didn't work for me because I really loved the 'glowing' finish I got from it. The packaging is 'interesting' - I dealt with it by a) ditching the brush that comes with it and b) snipping the hinged lid that is directly over the sifter - this allows me to poor product directly into the domed lid. Then you can swirl and tap with your brush to apply. The hunt for my HG foundation continues!

Pressed Powders -Revlon - New Complexion Oil Free Pressed Powder
rated 5 of 5

Just repurchased this. Wow. Great great powder. Throw away the sponge that comes with it - it's useless. I use this every day. Works really well with my combination, oily-t-zone skin. Provides some coverage so you can even try wearing it without foundation if you like. HG.

Foundations -L'Oreal - Visible Lift Line Minimizing Makeup
rated 4 of 5
stargazer_lily 6/7/2007 12:45:00 AM

I have this in Classic Ivory - a great match for my PPP with yellow undertones skin. I've used this quite a few times and like it a lot. Here in Australia, this comes in a pump pack which I love. (I really don't like bottles with that wide neck!) This foundation gives medium/full coverage and I think this is what I occasionally don't like about it. It feels kind of heavy on my skin sometimes and it doesn't really help in dealing with my oily t-zone either. When freshly applied, and when my skin is not flaky, this looks SO GOOD. Other times, it looks decidedly average and mask-like. So I have to take a point off. This is a pretty good foundation but sadly, it is not HG. A good one to have in the makeup collection though. I suggest you try it if you have fairly ok skin, that is not too dehydrated and if you want to conceal blemishes.

Lipstick -Bourjois - Lovely Brille Corail des Mers
rated 4 of 5
stargazer_lily 6/7/2007 12:33:00 AM

I treated myself to this recently as it is such a happy, summery looking shade. It is definitely a reddish-toned coral as mentioned by the previous reviewer. This suits my PPP skin with yellow undertones very very well. I find this to be sheerer than I'd like.... I need lipbalm on my dry lips before any sort of lipstick application and if I put a little too much balm on first, the colour doesn't show up well. Disappointing. For this, I took a point off. For those who are blessed with not-so-dry lips and like sheer lipsticks, you will be in love! I like the packaging - bright blue tube with a mirror on the end - too cute (and super practical). Overall, quite a good product but with so many sheer lipsticks on the market, I don't see myself repurchasing this particular one. A nice try though Bourjois!

Cleansers -Nivea - Visage Sensitive Balance Cleansing Lotion
rated 5 of 5
stargazer_lily 6/7/2007 12:26:00 AM

I have combination skin which is prone to dryness - especially in winter. I also have mild rosacea. I only bought this particular cleanser because my regular Nivea creamy cleanser (Refreshing Cleansing Lotion I think it's called) was out of stock. I love this one just as much! I only use these lotion cleansers in my morning shower so I cannot comment on its ability to remove makeup. I rinse it off using a washcloth. I am very happy with this cleanser and would repurchase. Leaves skin very soft but clean. The only negative comment I have is that it's a pump pack so it will be "fun" to get the last bits out of the bottom of the bottle. But for the price (dirt cheap), I can't complain too much. RAVE!

Moisturizers -Clinique - Repairwear Day SPF 15 Cream
rated 5 of 5
stargazer_lily 6/7/2007 12:09:00 AM

Add me to the list of happy users! I received this product as part of a gift pack last year and did not seriously start using it until quite recently. I am a convert. For starters, my skintype: combination with quite oily t-zone, prone to flaking, prone to breakouts, mild rosacea, PPP. This stuff works really well for me. I find that I stay matte for longer and it holds my makeup on well. At the same time, my skin is adequately hydrated and comfortable, so no flaking! Some may not like the smell but it certainly isn't as bad as some products I've used (e.g. EA 8 Hour Cream). The SPF protection is greatly appreciated as I live in a sunny climate, and really need it. I can't comment on any anti-aging benefits but this is of low-importance to me as I use Avene Ystheal for this. I don't mind the jar packaging - at least I can get the last bits out at the bottom, but I can appreciate that some do not like it. Thumbs down on the price... it would be great if this cost a little less. Overall, this is HG for me.

Other -Crest - Whitestrips Premium
rated 5 of 5
stargazer_lily 10/1/2006 6:39:00 AM

I live in Australia and Crest is not sold here. After hearing so much about the whitestrips on MUA I was itching to try some. Finally I got an opportunity - my parents recently went on a holiday to the US and I asked them to bring me back some and I ended up with Whitestrips Premium. I have had sensitivity issues in the past so for about a week before using the strips, I started using Oral B Sensitive toothpaste. I feel this has helped. Right now, I have almost finished whitening my top teeth (I have a few strips left). I have been doing just 30 minutes a day and I have skipped a couple of days here and there when I experienced sensitivity. Pain-wise, it honestly has not been that bad. And my teeth are so much whiter! I can see the difference between uppers and lowers and they are noticeably lighter. My eye teeth are a lot less yellow which is wonderful (I previously hated the yellowness of them!) I would use these strips again, but it's annoying not being able to purchase them from stores here. I guess I'll try eBay!

Moisturizers -Nivea - Visage Sensitive Balance day care for sensitive skin [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
stargazer_lily 9/7/2006 8:38:00 AM

--EDIT (latest)-- I have found that while this does not aggravate my SD, it doesn't treat it either. Redwin Sorbolene Light Facial Moisturiser is helping my skin a lot more than this does. However, I am keeping my rating at 5 lippies because it is a great product for those who do not have SD! --EDIT-- Upgrading my rating from 4 to 5 lippies. I have continued to use this moisturiser and it is just wonderful stuff. It's one of the few that doesn't aggravate my SD. It does calm redness. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. --Original review-- I have weird skin. Super oily t-zone, mild rosacea, flaking on nose and forehead, acne prone.... terrible! After receiving my first session of IPL facial rejuvenation, I realised I needed a soothing night time moisturiser. This is marketed as a day cream but it's quite rich - I would recommend only those with dry skin try it during the day. But for me, this works well as a night cream. It feels very calming and soothing and helps with the dry patches. I can't comment on whether it soothes redness as I am having IPL for this, but any assistance in this area will be a bonus. Thumbs up.

Fragrances -Anna Sui - Sui Love
rated 4 of 5
stargazer_lily 5/8/2006 3:41:00 AM

I bought a miniature of this to try simply because I loved the cute bottle. I get a lot of lily and violet from this scent at first. Then when it dries down, you get a more musky scent. It's a nice sweet youthful fragrance that would work well in summer. Give it to a teenage girl and she'll love it I think. :-) I'll use this up but probably won't purchase a full size bottle. I prefer Chanel Chance to this.

Fragrances -Burberry - Burberry Classic EDP
rated 5 of 5
stargazer_lily 5/8/2006 3:28:00 AM

Bought a miniature size of this on a whim and it turns out I really like it. One of the previous reviewers describes the scent best - "fruity apple peachy vanilla" - yet there is nothing sickly sweet about it. I can see myself wearing this to work as it is quite unobtrusive and subtle. Just lovely.

I purchased a sample size of this fragrance simply based on the reviews here. I am not disappointed! This is a warm, enveloping cozy scent that is perfect for cooler weather. I love it! It has a sweetness to it but it's not cloying. It's just lovely and would be suitable for many occasions.
