Lip Gloss -Lancome - Juicy Tubes - Framboise
Sue_raisin 7/16/2003 1:47:00 PM
Good points: 1. v glossy 2. tiny particles of glitter (and i mean glitter, not shimmer) make your lips look stunning when they catch the sun 3.it's quite a big tube of gloss 15ml 4. it's quite long lasting, compared to some cheaper brands, altho that's because it's so blimmin sticky! 5. the tube has the built-in applicater so no sticky fingers or fiddly brushes Bad points: 1. the colour is bright pink but on the lips it's got no colour and is too sheer, it's like wearing a clear lipgloss - pointless really, if i wanted a clear lipgloss i would have bought one 2. the glitter is not very dense so it's not very noticeable (shame really cos when it catches the sun it looks really good) 3.the taste is a bit sweet and sickly - it's not a 'flavour' as such, it's just sweet I'd get abother one, but in a nother colour. you absolutely HAVE to get one of these though, they're a classic!

Mascara -Maybelline - Great Lash Mascara
Sue_raisin 7/16/2003 1:33:00 PM
Funny how with this product you either luv it or hate it, there's absolutely no inbetween. I've bought this because it was suposed to be the mascara all the make up artists use, but maybe they like it because it's thick and the brush is adequate but it also comes off really easily - maybe this is useful for make-up artists? there's got to be SOME reason this sells so well! I didn'tlike this at all. 1.it made my eyelashes curl downwards. 2. it smudges. 3. it takes ages to dry. 4. it flakes once it (finaly) does dry. am i doing something wrong?

Mascara -Christian Dior - Long Optic mascara
Sue_raisin 7/13/2003 4:02:00 PM
I got this in a free gift type thing and was relly impressed, so i bought a full-size tube. It is NOT a volumising mascara. it is for definitiong, length and separationn. don't expect thick, luscious lashes cos you won't get them, not matter how many coats you put on. my lashes are really sparse and short and stumpy, and this lengthens them nicely, and if you put a few coats on without letting them dry in between each coat, you can really tease them to curl up and make your lashes look a lot longer and curlier than they actually are. overall - nice mascara, no flaking, lasts all day, unfortunately not waterproof - one day i was stood at a bus stop and the wind in my eyes was really making them water and the mascara went all over the place - v embarrassing. woulnd't but it again because a) the packaging is a bit old fashioned b) it's quite expesinve for what it does (and doesn't do). good for a natural look.

Liquid -Prescriptives - Virtual Skin
Sue_raisin 7/13/2003 3:48:00 PM
When I bought this, the girl at the Px counter was so thorough with my consultation that i really truly did think that i was going to, at last, find my perfect foundation. She asked so many questions about my skin, she was excellent and really seemed to know her stuff. When she tried the colour on me we went outside and had a look. Unfortunately Manchester in the UK isn't all that bright and sunny, so at the time I didn't see that it was too dark. Anyway, so i got it home, put it on, and was so happy with it, i thought my days of searching were over. But then when i looked in a mirror, i discovered that it had changed colour. so the next day i put it on, and noticed that, a few mins after putting it on my skin the foundation had changed colour - to an orangey colour. I was so disapointed but thoughtm seeing as i'd already bought it, and i could just about get away with wearing it cos my skin is olive/yellow toned anyway. but it was a hot day and all of a sudden my skin started to bubble up. the sweat from my face (this sounds awful, but i'm not all that sweaty really) had mixed in with the foundation and caused it to foam up on my face. it was VERY obvious and people were looking at me weird. none of my foundations have ever done that. they usually just fade away or melt with sweat. what a complete disapointment. I don't like this because of these two things happening. but, the texture, the feel, and coverage, the (initial) colour, the lightness of it, was all beautiful...spot on. so you can imagine how disapointed i was that it went all weird and changed colour. I won't bother buying this again.

Liquid -Christian Dior - Diorskin Fluid
Sue_raisin 7/13/2003 3:38:00 PM
I love this foundation. I've tried them all too, and this one has impressed me a lot. It is a foundation that seems to 'set' if you know what I mean. It seems as tho it dries on and then looks perfect. It's quite a heavy foundation so it's good for covering blemishes etc, but it actually looks v natural and makes your skin look radiant. Every time I look in the mirror it looks perfect and makes my skin look flawless. It lasts all day too - i think because it 'sets'. The only bad thing about this is the colours. I bought 300, but it was too dark, so I went back and got a 202, which is far too pale, and they don't do anything in between which is a shame though. Fully recommend this though, go and buy it.

Treatments -Avon - Anew Clearly C face serum
Sue_raisin 7/10/2003 9:49:00 AM
This does smell funny but fades v.quickly, i noticed a definite difference in my skin's texture and how much it seemed to glow. i am a smoker too, so this helped my skin look good. don't use it in the day time, cos it is sticky but definitely use it at night.

Loose Powders -Clinique - Gentle Light powder [DISCONTINUED]
Sue_raisin 5/7/2003 4:51:00 PM
I gave this a 3. Good points: light, soft, comfortable. Effective at getting rid of shine. Large 35g pot with brush. Bad points: put on too much and it looks awful. Spose that's the same with all powders isn't it? Quite expensive - as much as one of their foundations. Also, you know how powder pots have a plastic layer as well as the lid itself to keep it contained? Well the holes in the plastic layer are so big that ALL the powder goes thru them and it's really hard to to use a minimal amount. Also the label says "Hand-rub onto face for most silken, flawless finish" It's impossible to shake the powder into your hands like you can with other powders because of the inadequate plastic lid thing I just mentioned. The brush is too small, so best to use a large powder brush. Would not repurchase, the plastic lid is terrible and it's not very luxurious, despite the UK £17.50 price tag.

Lip Gloss -Yves Saint Laurent - Lisse Gloss #1
Sue_raisin 4/30/2003 3:51:00 AM
The colour of this is very natural but it gives a good gloss. It does smooth my lips too, I was really suprised. Even tho I had flaky bits on my lips it made them totally invisible. I would buy this again but in a darker colour. Gorgeous. UPDATE: this lipgloss lasts for longer than the cheaper ones, on the lips, as it really sticks to them. Unfortunately, the tube runs out in a matter of weeks. When i went to re-buy this, there were only about 6 colours and they're all horrible, except #1.

Crème -Elizabeth Arden - Flawless Finish Sponge-On Creme Make-up
Sue_raisin 4/29/2003 3:26:00 AM
This is the first compact foundation I have ever used. It's soft, gives a good coverage, but looks quite natural and not at all powdery. It smells horrible though, like talc, but stronger. The colour (Porcelain Beige 04) for my Chinese skin looked like it wouldn't match in the compact but when on it looks lovely. I would buy it again, as I have found no fault with it so far. UPDATE: Yack yack yack. this is HORRIBLE. it makes my skin look like plastic and clogs around my nose and mouth. I don't know why I ever thought this was nice, because it just shows up all my flaky bits (mmm, attractive). Don't buy this. It's horrible.

Mascara -Rimmel - Endless Length & Lift
Sue_raisin 4/15/2003 7:51:00 AM
This is quite good for Rimmel. I find that it does what it says-lengthen and lift them, but it does not curl them. It's quite cheap and does a good job, and instead of putting a couple of thick coats on, this is a mascara that lets you build up lots of thinner layers, so it looks natural but also defines your lashes well. I did find that after a long day it had smudged all under my eyes but it must have had something to do with me laughing my ass off at something at work, not the mascara. Also, my wand came out of the lid! As soon as I bought it the wand fell off the cap of the mascara. Great mascara, crap wand!

Mascara -Max Factor - More lashes multiplying mascara
Sue_raisin 3/10/2003 7:57:00 AM
I do like this mascara but I said I wouldn't buy it again simply because there are better mascara's out there. It did well to separate my eye lashes and to thicken them, but I wouldn't have said that it makes my eyelashes look like there was more...they look the same but thicker and longer. If you don't expect miracles you'll be pleased with this - try it out. The only bad thing about it was that it flaked under my eyes at the end of the day.

Self Tanners -St.Tropez - 3 step tanning system
Sue_raisin 3/10/2003 7:40:00 AM
I know that this is what all the famous ppl use, but to me it's nothing special. It's also a little bit fussy - you have to exfoliate in the shower, then moisturise, then use the tan, but you're suppoed to mix the tan with the moisturiser to do your ankles, knees, wrists, etc. It's all a bit fiddly for me - I prefer to tan then go straight out. the colour was nice, but it wasn't that deep - nice for paler girls. It looks like poo when it comes out of the bottle though. I wouldn't buy this again simply because it's not worth the price, if it was a budget one I would but it's not special enough to warrant the price and it's too long-winded a process.

Lip Gloss -Boots - 17 Plump up the Volume Lipgloss "In the Nude"
Sue_raisin 2/21/2003 8:32:00 AM
This is my all-time fave lipgloss. It's dirt cheap, £3.75 in the UK. The colour suits all skins, it looks natural, feels nice, has no scent or flavour, has brilliant colour. It's not too gloopy either, or sticky. The staying power is ok, it lasts a couple of hours at a time, but who cares, it's so cheap you can keep reapplying it. It's not particularly moisturising but it doesn't dry my lips out either, it just sits on my lips and looks pretty. Defintely worth buying (over and over) again.

Liquid -Clinique - Superfit Foundation [DISCONTINUED]
Sue_raisin 2/21/2003 8:03:00 AM
This foundation is very functional. It does what it says and is effective but I like foundations to feel more luxurious because it's on my face all day long. It's a comfortable foundation, but it didn't last that long for me, I had to reapply in certain areas around midday. The coverage is medium and it kept my dry skin from drying out even further. I found I needed to use powder on it as it made my skin, although it's dry, look a bit greasy. At the end of the day most of it had slid off and it made my skin feel a bit uncomfortable and greasy. But definitely worth a try, it's just a very functional foundation but I felt I needed more.
