Mascara -Kiss Me - Kiss Me Mascara

I feel like a bit of a party-pooper as I type this, but I really dislike this product. The tube concept failed to charm me. Contrary to the advertisments for this mascara, it is very difficult to remove with soap and water (or makeup remover, for that matter). I sacrificed a chunk of lashes to the sink god everytime I used this. No thanks! (Especially not at this price!) Give me my Shu Uemura Basic Mascara anyday!

Mascara -Dejavu (Imju) - Fiberwig Lash Knockout
mecepeda 8/19/2007 9:50:00 PM
This is a great mascara for a more dramatic look -- I like it MUCH better than Blinc's version...I followed the simple removal instructions for Blinc but neverthless ended up with half of my lashes in the sink. Ugg. An important tip: be careful if you have contacts. This is a thickish mascara formula, so you can get a bit in your contact lenses if you are not careful. Tip #2: You need to use an eyelash comb with this! (I like the metal folding one by Tweezerman). Yes, it's a bit more trouble, but the results are very good.

Eye Shadow -Three Custom Color Specialists - All Eye Shadows
mecepeda 8/19/2007 9:07:00 PM
These eyeshadows have the most fantastic texture...they are very finely milled, which I love, and so easy to blend. I own a palette that has three shades that I chose myself (Warm Brown Sugar, Warm White, and Warm Nutmeg...can you tell that I like neutral eye shadows?), and all three of them look great on (my other favorite part about this line: whatever you choose in your color group is foolproof). These are gorgeous colors, but not overly pigmented -- but this is a plus for me, since I don't like heavy eyeshadow. In fact, I like these so much I ditched all of my other eyeshadows! Now I'm down to the three in my palette plus one of the new "Snow" single eyeshadows by TCCS to use in the inner corner of my eyes. It brightens very nicely. Highly recommended.

Polishes -Rescue Beauty Lounge - Coral nail polish
mecepeda 8/19/2007 8:58:00 PM
A gorgeous summer color...the best coral I have found thus far. No, it's not cheap, but it lasts forever without chipping. I am tough on my feet but had no problems with this. Looks great with a tan, or without. And the packaging's lovely -- very sleek.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Lipglass in Russian Red
mecepeda 8/19/2007 8:51:00 PM
I really wanted to like this shade, but frankly it looks horrible on me -- I think that the undertones are too blue for my LOLA (warm olive) skin. Ug. I wish I could have returned this...regardless, I am still a MAC lipglass fan.

Misc Beauty Tools -Clean & Clear - Oil Absorbing Sheets
mecepeda 8/19/2007 8:46:00 PM
A fantastic buy! This does the job far better than more expensive brands, I am hooked...I used to be a Boscia fan but have happily found that this product works better, and costs much less. I bought the new scented blotting papers by C&C and frankly can't smell much on them (funny, since I have a bionic nose). Buy these -- you will love them. They don't disturb your makeup, get the job done, are easy to find, and one pack lasts a long time.

Fragrances -Annick Goutal - Eau du Sud
mecepeda 8/19/2007 8:42:00 PM
This one of my absolute favorites for a year-round fragrance ... I like the fact that's it a bit unusual and not at all sweet (my personal idea of hell is being locked in a room full of Dessert Beauty or Bath and Body Works products, to give you an idea). I find that the clean scent lasts all day on me, and the citrus/herb fragrance is unobstrusive enough to wear to work or on special occasions. If you are lucky, sometimes it's on sale online. A definite winner or someone who isn't interested in smelling like the rest of the crowd.

Polishes -Lippmann Collection - Sarah Smile
mecepeda 8/19/2007 4:56:00 AM
I do like this stuff...I tend to vaciliate between a variety of very dark poishes and have trouble finding sheer, clean-looking polishes that look good with my warm medium skin, so I have been loving this one for a few years now. I don't like it on my toes -- it's to sheer -- but it's fantastic on my hands, paired with a nice red, coral, fuschia, or black on the toes (I adore color). A bit pricey, but of high quality. If you don't want to spend so much, try one of the Essie colors -- I find that Ballet Slippers or Mademoiselle give a similar effect, or Adore-A-Ball's good if you want a bit more color.

Skincare - Body -Bliss Labs - Ingrown Hair Eliminating Pads
mecepeda 8/19/2007 4:48:00 AM
I am a Bliss fan but found this product very disappointing...like a good product freak I decided to try this after getting tired of the Tend Skin (dumb, considering that Tend Skin has always worked so well for me). I am "blessed" with a lot of thick hair so not using something to prevent ingrowns is not an option...but this stuff is way too expensive for what you get, and not very effective in comparison to a bottle of Tend Skin, which lasts far longer and combats the ingrowns a lot better. I also dislike the packaging, as you are forced to stick your hand into the (rather drying) liquid that saturates the pads, which to me seems rather unsanitary. A big thumbs down.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Pink Poodle Lipglass
mecepeda 8/19/2007 4:42:00 AM
I have nostalgia for this color, haven't bought it in a while, but I've always loved it. I like to wear it straight out of the tube (I'm a LOLA, bright colors work for me), or on top of Spice lipliner to tone it down a bit if needed. A great go-to gloss -- I haven't found another bright pink one that I like better.

Conditioner -Terax - Crema
mecepeda 8/19/2007 4:20:00 AM
The HG of conditioners! I've been using this one for years, through long hair and short, summer and winter, and it's the absolute best. I used to purchase it in the tub (it's much more economical to buy the larger size if you can) and now I love the new packaging with a pump. I use it every day when my hair is a bit drier (it doesn't ever flatten or coat your hair, unlike most deep conditioners), but generally just once a week as a deeper conditioning treatment after a clarifying shampoo. And I do like the smell...it's very distinct, kind of like the type of lotion you'd use on a baby. Keep an eye out at Target...sometimes they have it there for half price. I will definitely keep on buying this one, aaaah.

Deodorants -LUSH - Aromacreme [DISCONTINUED]
mecepeda 8/18/2007 2:36:00 AM
First I will confess: I have had a few problems with burning armpits like some other reviewers, but only when I put this on immediately after shaving (something that can happen with virtually all deodorants)...I received a sample of this a few weeks ago and think it is the *best* natural deodorant that I have tried thus far, and I have tried many. It really keeps you dry and odor-free all day. I use a tiny amount in the morning (at this rate my sample is going to last me six months!) and it's still working at night. Sure, it's a bit too flowery, but the smell does die down and I love the fact that I am not smothering my pores with aluminum! I also appreciate the fact that no needless packaging is included with this product.

Powder -Neutrogena - neutrogena mineral sheers medium to tan
mecepeda 8/18/2007 2:29:00 AM
A nice powder with sheer coverage, just like it says...and unlike many of the other reviewers, I actually do like the packaging. I started using this after buying the Bare Escentuals starter set -- frankly, that product gave me too much coverage and I didn't like the messy application, carrying around a separate brush, colors that weren't exactly what I wanted, etc. -- much less the cost. I bought this a few times and would do so again, should I ever wean myself off of my HG Colorscience (fat chance!)

Makeup Brushes -Sephora - Sephora Kabuki Brush
mecepeda 8/18/2007 2:23:00 AM
I bought this brush on a semi-whim (I finally went back to powder blush and needed something to put it on with for a wedding) and I have been very happy with it. I tend to be a bit tough on my makeup brushes, as I wash them religiously every week (or less) with a gentle antibacterial soap and water. This one has fared far better than the more expensive Chanel Kabuki brush that I used to have, and I like it better than brush that comes along with the Bare Escentuals starter kit as well. It doesn't lose bristles or smell "off," and it dries amazingly quickly. But perhaps most importantly: it's very soft and deposits the perfect amount of color on my cheeks. It also is nice an compact. My only complaint: I wish it came in a nicer little carrying case. The clear plastic pouch has got to go...other than that, a definite keeper. ETA: I eventually had to ditch this brush due to excess shedding. Grrrrr...at this price point, I would expect better. Happily, I was able to replace this Kabuki with one from MAC, and it is far superior (though obviously more expensive). I certainly lowered this one a few lippies.

Blush -Becca - Beach Tint in Watermelon
mecepeda 8/18/2007 2:17:00 AM
A great product, especially if you don't like to fuss around with your makeup and prefer a more natural look. While I could frankly do without the watermelon scent (I don't tend to like fruity scents other than citrus), it's not so overpowering so it is relatively easy to ignore. Other then the that, I am happy with this tint -- the texture is ideal, and it's long lasting. I wish they would come out with a peach tint next!
