Lipstick -Maybelline - Color Sensational 145 Plaza Pink
rated 2 of 5
glamstep 12/4/2011 6:47:00 PM

This is a MLBB shade, with a mauvey brown undertone. Its a creme finish & decently moisturizing, but doesn't show up much on my pigmented lips. Also its a misnomer, as theres no hints of pink in it. I own too many similar natural shades to repurchase this one, its ok in my books, nothing phenomenal.

For a great homemade recipe, watch YT beauty guru Farah Dhukai's video on How to Grow healthy hair, stop dandruff, stop split ends Now onto some uses/recipes not listed here already: ~~TONER: combats acne & tightens pores 1 1/4 cups of rose water 8 drops of glycerin 3/4 cup of witch hazel ~~FACIAL CLEANSER: natural for sensitive/dry skin 1 cup rose water 2 tsp of glycerin 10 drops of rose essential oil ~~HAIR CONDITIONER:damaged hair turns smooth & shiny! 3 drops of vitamin E oil 3 drops of jojoba oil 8 tsp rosewater 4 drops of glycerin ~~REDUCE HYPER-PIGMENTATION: or remove a tan Equal parts of lemon juice + rosewater + glycerin ~~SKIN REJUVENATION: reduce fine lines Equal parts of sandalwood powder + rosewater + glycerin *Each is used as a scrub to exfoliate & daily use will show results within 1 month. Always keep ALL mixtures in dark glass bottles to increase shelf life & allow full benefits. ~~BODY SPRAY: 5 drops of jasmine oil + 1/4 cup or rose water OR 3 drops of glycerin per 8 tsp of rosewater ~~REGULAR USES: Makeup setting spray; refreshes & leaves dewy finish. Soothes irritated sunburn; also disinfects & cools area. Makeup remover with cotton swabs used in circular motion. Mixed in shampoo leaves hair soft & smelling like heaven! Rosewater is naturally rich in Vitamins A, C, B3, D, E; list is endless. You can use a homemade recipe or buy a 4 oz bottle at Whole Foods for $6 (same as image above). Whole Foods also sells a mix of glycerin & rosewater for same oz/price; since many recipes require the two. This is a staple in my regimen, I didn't see any overnight miracles, but for the cost, knowledge of benefits, natural availability, multiple uses, fragrance & long term results, I'm sold for life & hope you are too now.

Lipstick -Revlon - Colorburst Lip Butter

Finally found ONE of these left at my local Rite Aid-Peach Parfait a true coral with chunks of gold glitter that gets gritty after the balm effect wears off. Not scented, sticky, tasteful or oily; leaves a glossy shine to the lips. Won't repurchase this color but want to try others. Check out Emily Noel's review on yt for swatches: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZpKW5UTJ7c&feature=feedu

Lip Treatments -Maybelline - Baby Lips lip balm
rated 3 of 5
glamstep 11/13/2011 10:55:00 AM

COST: Paid around $4 for Pink Punch at CVS. COLOR: The lipstick like tube is true to the color-its a bright fuchsia. CLAIMS: 82% visibly less dry, 94% less rough, 77% more supple-better looking lips; via 4 wk clinical study on the back of the package. PROS: Cute packaging, SPF 20, good color payoff. CONS: Not true to its claims or name of 'lip balm.' REVIEW:I have uber dry cracky lips all year long, which did NOT (sadly) feel the 8 hr moisture/lip renewal as labeled. The texture is oily so it slips & sits right on top of my lips, instead of penetrating to moisturize, its almost like a sheen lipstick feel. I'll stick to my Palladio tinted balms until I can get my hands on the new Revlon lip butters.

Lips -Milani - Lip Flash Full Coverage Shimmer Gloss Pencil
rated 5 of 5
glamstep 10/5/2011 4:21:00 PM

DUPES?! Does anyone else think of UD Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color when they see these beauty bargains! I couldn't shell out the $19 for UD so after swatching @Sephora/CVS & checking blogs online I purchased 2 that looked most similar to the UD ones I was eyeing: --UD Adrenaline= Milani Flashy (shimmery bright hot berry pink) --UD F-Bomb=Hot Flash (shimmery deep red) Again, I don't own the UD so can't comment on the texture/lasting power etc exactly, but for $7 of the same 2.8 g 'quantity' I'm quite satisfied. These are highly pigmented, bold colors; that are moisturizing & long lasting glosses. Its like a lipstick + balm + gloss + lip liner in a crayon! So convenient! Now that I saved $$$ I can try other colors too. TIP-Just like the NYX jumbo pencils, pop them in the freezer for few mins PRIOR to sharpening, to avoid wasting & making a mushy mess.

Cleansers -LUSH - coal face soap
rated 5 of 5
glamstep 10/5/2011 11:11:00 AM

LOVE LOVE LOVE this stuff!! One of my HG skincare items, I've been coming back to regularly for over 5 yrs now-longest I've stuck to any face product! (although I do alternate & try new things aLL the time) INGREDIENTS & PROPERTIES: ---Charcoal-absorbs oil, dermal cleansing of pores, soaks up toxins ---Licorice-lightens hyper-pigmentation, acidic so reduces inflammation ---Sandalwood-astringent, disinfectant, emollient *Commonly used in top quality masks/spas individually or combos TEXTURE & SCENT: Black charcoal looking bar with granular gritty surface--it doesn't scratch/over exfoliate even if u apply it directly to your face. Smells like well licorice & sandalwood (mostly)! Natural, minerally & doesn't linger, even if your sensitive to smells or have dry skin--don't be discouraged! STORAGE & COST: I buy a single 3g piece for about $10 & cut small blocks off at a time. I keep the big chunk dry & fresh-wrapped in paper away from bathroom moisture & direct light/heat (it does melt in those conditions). It literally lasts me 7-9 mos---worth every penny my budget shoppers! I put my daily slice into the shampoo round tin sold at LUSH (or any non porous soapdish will do), so I can use even the tid bits that solidify inside, not bcuz I'm cheap but bcuz its that good & cant see any of it go to waste! O yea it drips black (be careful of streaks on your arms!) & looks yuk if u let it dry in the sink too, but simply wipe off or let the water run! APPLICATION: I do have normal-dry skin so during the winter I use this only at night followed with moisturizer, summer time I bump it up to twice a day.I rub the bar between my fingers, it lathers quickly into a creamy gray FOAM & apply to my wet face. I use circular motions, especially on my nose, chin (blackhead prone area) & rinse off with cold water. I literally feel the impurities being lifted off my face, leaving the most SQUEAKY clean finish ever! It keeps my skin glowing (like I just got a facial done) all yr long. I swear by this being the reason why my face didn't tan living in the Caribbean for 2 yrs compared to the rest of me (yes I applied sunblock daily the same Neutrogena spf 100 on face & body). It has kept my pores clog free, minimized blackheads, rids redness & helped fade old scars. I do have dry skin, but this has NEVER left it blotchy, irritated, cracked or peely (like others have) I find my skin compensates by producing the right amount of moisture that it lacked previously! TIPS: If your curious, I suggest going into a LUSH store not purchasing online, so u can pick up a free sample OR customize a small size. I frequently ask for approximately ''$2 travel sizes'' to try several different products out & the SA estimate well around that price tag. OR be daring enough to try it in the sink there! This is one of those products u will FEEL the difference in just ONE use & SEE differences WITHIN a week max! I have recommended to sooo many & got same feedback :) Heard best results from oily, acne, eczema skin but I have none of the above & am still addicted! Maybe I'm blessed with good skin genes OR maybe its LUSH coal face ;) Lastly LUSH can be hits & misses so don't stray away from a bad experience with something else. I've previously tried Angels on Bare skin, Fresh Farmacy (found both too crumbly & difficult to lather for my taste), Herbalism (ooo smells!), Baby Face (d/c) & this blows them all! It is my favorite, hands down!!!

Hair -Unlisted Brand - MACADAMIA NATURAL OIL Deep Repair Mask
rated 2 of 5
glamstep 10/4/2011 1:05:00 PM

Its SHOCKING how massively OVER-HYPED this product is. FYI: The percentage of fragrance (parfum) most products contain is usually LESS than 1%, so ingredients listed AFTER it are present in amounts even less than that i.e. are almost negligible. Paula Begoun similarly advises this in her book-"Don't Go Shopping for Hair Care Products Without Me." With that said, Macadamia oil is listed 6th after Fragrance (14th ingredient from top)!!! The Castor seed oil & Dimethicone are earlier on the list & are probably what give the overall silky, soft, shiny, smooth finish that we all love---including myself. Are these cheap fillers really repairing hair? IDK. But I do know its not worth the $30 for 8.5 oz jar (less than avg shampoo bottle) regardless of how little/less frequently you use it. If are interested in the NATURAL benefits I suggest picking up 100% Macadamia OR Argan oils at Whole Foods ($15 for 1 oz droppers) that have no other additives & thus few drops; if used daily even will give longer lasting maximum results. Now that's what I consider real value for your money.

Lip Gloss -Essence - Stay With Me
rated 2 of 5
glamstep 10/4/2011 12:58:00 PM

I have this in Me & My Ice cream--semi milky pink---its kind of sheer. Wish it looked like the above pic. Its buildable to that shade yes (with like 3 coats) but the color itself wears off quick (less than an hr), leaving the sheer gloss look for much longer. It doesn't have a taste, but has a scent that stays put. Its moisturizing & not sticky. The doe foot applicator is wiggly, making the application not as accurate. Maybe I can atleast experiment with the other colors that seemed too intense in the tube for my daily preference? But then again,NYX megashine lip gloss essentially come out to be worth the same since these cost exactly half as much but also give u half the amount!!

Pressed Powders -E.L.F. - Clarifying Pressed Powder
rated 2 of 5
glamstep 10/4/2011 1:02:00 AM

I kept hearing these are semi-sheer powders to set mu with & so didn't think purchasing Honey for my NW25 skin would be too far fetched.Plus it was the second yellow tone shade online; well boy was I wrong! Its like 3 shades DARKER & orangey, so couldn't even use it as a bronzer, although the color is dark enough on me to contour with. Works decently as a blush/all over lid color. It is finely milled, caused no breakouts, goes on smoothly & lasts all day; but until I see this in my Target for accurate 'live' color selections...I will not be experimenting with online guesses (as with most e.l.f products---the $$$$ misses add up to > outweigh the $hits)

Eye Shadow -Physicians Formula - Matte Collection Quad Eye Shadow in Canyon Classic
rated 5 of 5
glamstep 10/3/2011 11:04:00 AM

The quality of these remind me alot of Mary Kay shadows. Matte, soft, blendable, long lasting & ZERO fallout. I use the left two shades as crease colors to either add depth or blend other harsh colors. The top right-my FAVORITE, I use as a setting powder over my concealer!! It really brightens & fills in any pre-forming crease lines; better than most finely milled powders.Bottom right makes a polished neutral all over lid color. Boring looking colors but essential shades for all ages & looks. Packaging reminds me of Sonia Kashuk quads on the outside, inside the pans are loose--as if they'll depot easy but don't try => huge mess!
