Mascara -Christian Dior - Diorshow Mascara
atsugari 11/3/2008 6:56:00 PM
I like this product this is my HG, I've tried MAC, Clinique, Shu Uemura mascaras and not of them have the staying power of this one on my oily lids. The color stays on the lashes and will not move to the bottom of me eyes. It can built up to thicker, longer more dramatic lashes. Cons: The only think keeping me from give full points is the color. I wish it was blacker it is more of a charcoal black than a glossy black, I tried Blackout but that smudges on my eyes even when it's waterproof. Maybe if they come out with the same formula but blacker I'll get it.

Eyeliner -MAC - Technakohl in Graphblack
atsugari 11/3/2008 6:45:00 PM
UPDATE: I did an experiment using this on one eye and the MAC fluldline on the other eye. When I smudge this one there are little black specks that I had to brush off my eye. Maybe I was suppose to smudge right after I apply it? The staying power isn't as long as the fluidline and I had to clean up the eye area twice over a 10 hr period because I looked ridiculous. The fluidline stayed pretty well and I only had to clean once. Overall I won't repurchase. I bought this to replace my very expensive $25 Dior eyeliner that smears on my eyelids after 2 hrs of wear. I'm very impressed with the staying power of this eyeliner on my oily lids. The application was smooth and the mechanical liner saves me the hassle of sharpening it and it stays all day. I developed a habit of checking my lids throughout the day as a result of the Dior because i had to reapply all the time with this product I didn't have to it's stays put. The price was great consider it was only $14.50 for an excellent product rather than me paying a lot for product that doesn't work. Cons: is it's nearly impossible for me to remove on my lower eyelids, either it is the pigments staining power or I need to get a better makeup remover. Cleansing oil takes this eyeliner completely off.

Mascara -MAC - Plush Lash
atsugari 9/25/2008 11:39:00 PM
I've had this mascara (not waterproof) for awhile now and every morning I put it on for work and everyday after work it ends up on the bottom of my eyes. I though it was my oily lids problem that all mascaras will run down my face to panda eyes unless I used waterproof mascara. Until I discovered when I got a Dior mascara(not waterproof) that it was the MAC mascara's problem. I did a test where one day I used MAC and at the end of the day it ran down to the bottom of my eyes. On another day I used the Diorshow and at the end of the day my mascara is still on my eyelashes. I conclude that this mascara is not for people with oily lids and requires many touch ups during the day (4 hrs intervals)and no lasting power. My Diorshow still stayed on my lashes (9+) hours and it's not waterproof (waterproof is a pain to take off). I'll imagine I will probably wear this clubbing that way I'll have less panda eyes pictures at the end of the night. The packaging is alright I think I turned the mascara too tightly so it cracked on the outside.

Lip Gloss -LORAC - lotsa lip-foxy
atsugari 9/24/2008 5:55:00 PM
I got this while trying on some makeup at a beauty bar. The color is nice it has a subtle sparkly metallic glow that makes it still wearable for work. If I wanted a more dewey effect I layer some shimmery lipgloss over it. I don't think it is lip plumping at all. My lips don't look bigger and there is not tingly effect at all. I just think of it as a colored lipgloss. I could probably find better stuff that does plump. Overall the color is great for work. I like how the packaging is completely enclosed so there is not drying or contamination you just squeeze and product comes out and you apply. It is very portable.

Moisturizers -Estee Lauder - Hydra Bright Skin-Tone Perfecting Moisturizer Creme
atsugari 9/24/2008 5:40:00 PM
I bought this online because of Paula Begoun's reviews on the ingredients. When I got it it smelled like an old lady and the smell was too strong for me to even try to put on my face. I returned it to the store and walked to the Dior counter to try to find something better from the MUA reviews. Regardless of the benefits of the packaging, ingredients, the smell gets me and I probably will not buy it again. (Maybe when I'm retired and my senses get dull)

Scrubs -LUSH - Ocean Salt
atsugari 9/24/2008 5:35:00 PM
I have oily skin so the intensity of the salt and citrus doesn't affect me. It's a great product to use after I shave my legs for soft legs and for dry patches on my face that I sometimes get. It scrubs off all the dry flakes and I can put lotion on afterwards and apply makeup without dealing with enhancing the appearance of dry patches. It doesn't really get rid of my acne scars what I found works is a prescription of 5% benzoyl hydroxide cream over the affected area at night. For people with sensitive or dry skin, This product will probably hurt like hell on your face because it is using sea salt and citrus. It's a pretty harsh scrub. One important point to remember is to moisutrize after you use this product. The packaging isn't perfect I've noticed that over time the product melts because moisture gets into the product and if you leave it out opened it turns a different color.

Liquid -NARS - Oilfree foundation
atsugari 9/24/2008 5:25:00 PM
I bought this foundation after spending a year trying to live with my bare minerals foundation. Since then I've realized that I don't like the chalky look I get with using pure powder and I'm orange when I used the bare minerals. (I looked like Lindsay Lohan with a self-tanner) Also with powder foundation everything my face touchs turns orange(napkins, fingernails..etc...) With NARS oil-free foundation it was closer to my asian skin tone which is yellow, application is easy for someone who can't use makeup brushes properly. I just used my fingers. I didn't breakout and I found that the foundation stays on my face all day without getting the greasy look. I've tried Airflash spray foundation from Dior and I get the greasy shiny look after a few hours. I've had to use less of it compared to using powder foundation for coverage and it lasts a long time I've been using it for 3 months now and I still have half a bottle left. I'm happy with the product. Only con is it doesn't come with a pump so sometimes I'm spotted at work with skin discolorations on my hands from me forgetting to wash my hands after putting on foundation.

Eyeliner -Christian Dior - Crayon Eyeliner in Deep Brown
atsugari 9/24/2008 5:14:00 PM
I bought this eyeliner as part of a Dior promo event. It is a pretty good eyeliner. The color is rich and doesn't pull on my eyelid like my cheaper brand eyeliner I got for free. I got this in the waterproof version and it's the best thing I used on my waterline. I doesn't fade much or leak to the bottom of my eyes (look like panda). Overall I think it was expensive for something the same quality as MAC eyeliners except $10 more. One the plus side it came with an eyeliner but when I sharpened the pencil the creamy formula is hard to remove from the shapener and looked kinda like I had crap on my sharpener. Update 11/03/2008 Product moves around my oily lids way too much. Smears after 1 hr of applications and doesn't stay put. I went out and found a better product from MAC that is cheaper and better staying power.

Misc Beauty Tools -Revlon - Eyelash curler
atsugari 8/26/2008 5:35:00 PM
I'm going to lose all my eyelashes using this product. The curler pinches when I get too close and also pulls my eyelashes out when I try to get a close grip on all my eyelashes. My eyelashes get caught in the hinge part once and tool out 3 eyelashes at once. Not the best made one since I value my eyelashes more than curling them. Definitely will be looking for a better one soon. UPDATE: I figured out over time and practice not to clip my eyelashes on the hinge and in addition it curls better if you flip the curling pad so the curvy side is up. Not much of an improvement than a hassle.

CD/Books/Movies -Paula's Choice - Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me 6th Edition
atsugari 8/26/2008 5:28:00 PM
I only read it in my local bookstore. I completely ignored the makeup section and focused on the skincare section. The makeup section is based on Paula's view of how one should wear makeup conservatively and I prefer a more glamorous look. I tried one of her recommended moisturizers by Estee Lauder. I realized when I tried the sample in the store it was strongly fragranced and made me smell like an old woman because I didn't realize Estee Lauder is targeting a more mature group of people. The fragrance irritated me and I can't believe she rated it a good choice based on what she wrote on other fragranced products. I ended up returning it and purchasing a Dior product based on reviews from here. You can use this book as a guide but don't take it word for word research the product on Make up Alley before you make your decision. Keep in mind both sources have no PhD background or research to back up precieved cosmetic benefits of skin care products.

Eyeliner -Ulta - Eye Liner
atsugari 8/26/2008 5:22:00 PM
I bought the Black/Brown pencil. In cold weather you need to warm up the pencil or it won't apply and pull on your eyelids. In warm weather it works fine. Need to reapply several times throughout the day because it wears off and go over eyelid several times to make the color show up. Not really recommended I bought it because it was cheap but not worth the pain of eyelids and lots of sharpening because you have to reapply so often. The packaging is poor because the caps on both ends fall off over time and end up marking everything in my makeup bag. I would recommend buying something of better quality. Update: I finally used it all and bought a decent eyeliner, I've begun to realize that lining your eyes with a eyeliner isn't suppose to hurt. The Ulta eyeliner has since been splintered and thrown away.
