Cleansers -Neutrogena - Acne Stress Control Foam Wash
DKER 10/27/2007 9:27:00 AM
It works pretty well on acne, but its not as good as the original Neut. Oil-Free Acne wash. Does have gentler ingredients, and is less irritating, but this comes at the expense of not being quite as effective. The foam is pretty dilute, I have to use a lot of it compared with liquid cleansers. Overall, its a good alternative if the orginal Oil-Free Acne Wash was just too irritating, but I am looking forward to using this up and going back to the original.

Styling Products -John Frieda - Frizz-Ease Downplay Volume Reducer [DISCONTINUED]
DKER 10/19/2007 9:24:00 PM
I like the idea of this product, a thin, easily spreadable gel-serum consistency with low silicones (which is water soluble) and some natural ingredients. And for the first couple of hours, it works well to de-puff and control frizz, without weighing my hair down or making it greasy. But by midafternoon, watch out for my growing frizzball!! I do not and will not restyle my hair midday, so this product gets a ho-hum rating.

Now, why have I not reviewed this before now? I like this stuff, its a light lotion styler that gives light hold and helps cuts down a little on puff/frizz. If I use too much my hair seems to lose volume throughout the day...this is normally not a problem for me. An excellent product for light hold and frizz control: the reason I don't use it more often is that the weather here usually requires higher hold. And this stuff does not mix very well with gels, I get white flakes when I try that. I find that the one silicone in it does not build up much on my hair.

Treatments -La Roche Posay - Biomedic Collagenist Powder

I've been using this on and off for years now. It really is the best way for me to incorporate vitamin C into my skincare routine without an extra layer of stuff. Plus since it is mixed right before each application, it is always fresh and potent, and has a long shelf life (if stored in a dry area). Much more economical than things like cellex-c, or skinceuticals. Plus this will never show up already oxided and useless at your door after being shipping during hot weather! Love it. One bottle lasts months.

Deodorants -Unlisted Brand - Certain Dri AM version
DKER 8/18/2007 11:42:00 AM
Controls wetness very well, and much less irritating than the PM version. This claims to be a deodorant, and give 'all day freshness'. That is a lie---I had terrible BO every time I used this (but no sweat). I'd rather have sweat than BO any day. Its going in the trash can.

Cleansers -Neutrogena - Oil-Free Acne Wash Foam Cleanser
DKER 8/11/2007 12:03:00 PM
I found this to be very effective at treating and preventing breakouts, but somewhat irritating to my skin. I think its a personal problem my skin has with red dyes, so I tried the cream version of this and had no irritation. However, this foam version is really good, as long as you don't have issue with the dyes or scent in it. Its as effective as many leave on AHA/BHA products, but without making an extra layer of stuff on the face. GREAT for body breakouts too.

Moisturizers -Olay - Sensitive Moisture Therapy Lotion

Love this stuff for my combo and very acne prone skin. No breakouts, and gives just the right amount of moisture. Excellent for mixing other things into (ie vit C powder, tea tree oil). Different from the other basic moisturizers because of the niacinamide being a top ingredient...this has been shown to reduce redness in skin and also help with acne.

Conditioner -Modern Organic Products (MOP) - C-System Hydrating Conditioner
DKER 8/4/2007 4:07:00 PM
This is a pretty good conditioner that I use a couple times a week. It seems to have some silicone alternative (maybe lanolin?) that makes it a bit heavy: it seems to coat rather than penetrating my hair, which is why I only use it 2x a week. I'll use it up, but wont repurchase---for the $$ there are conditioners that perform much better,

Conditioner -Modern Organic Products (MOP) - C-System Styling Conditioner

This product did indeed give enhanced hold after using it as directed, rinsing it almost all out after shampooing. However the texture of my hair was terrible--like someone had waxed over dry straw. It took a couple of shampoos to totally remove this, I can only imagine the buildup if this was used regularly.

Styling Products -Modern Organic Products (MOP) - C-System- C-Curl- Curl Enhancing Cream

I really wanted to like this product. It smells wonderful. That's all the good I can say. Despite it being silicone free, it builds up terribly on my hair. Leaves a very heavy, almost greased effect. Does not do much to either enhance or form curls, or cut down on frizz. The hold is pretty good for a cream, but it comes at the price of that greasy, heavy texture.

Styling Products -Pantene - Texturize - Moussing Foam Wax
DKER 8/4/2007 3:52:00 PM
I first tried this in the wintertime, and found it to be too heavy and greasy on my dry, wavy hair. When the dog days of summer and out of control frizz came around, I dug it out from under the sink and tried again. MUCH better results this time: Average hold for a mousse and really cuts down a LOT on frizz. I use shampoo 2x a week so buildup from the wax has not been a problem. I also like the scent, to me it smells very fresh and clean but not overpowering. My one gripe is that usually the first squirt of product does not foam well, instead of coming out of the can in the form of mousse it comes out like a fuzzy, waxy liquid. Still, I can spread it through my hair and it does this trick. EDIT: Wow does this ever build up like CRAZY!

Shampoo -Unlisted Brand - Creme of Nature Shampoo

I have repurchased this many times. It is a very gentle shampoo that leaves my hair soft and detangled. Don't even need conditioner afterwards. I have repurchased this many times. So why do I even bother trying more expensive shampoos? Smell. Such a yucky, castille soap/Bengay/medicine cabinet smell. Ugh. Update: New formula. Has silicones. Leaves me greasy looking. Plently of silicone containing shampoos to choose from that smell better than this.

Cleansers -Avene - Cold cream ultra-rich cleansing gel
DKER 5/5/2007 11:10:00 PM
This is for the version sold in US CVS stores. It is a very creamy, low lathering cleanser. Non irritating, not stripping, rinses clean but does not overdry. One lip off because it does not remove waterproof ss and makeup the way one would expect from a product labeled as a cold cream.

Cleansers -Neutrogena - Oil-Free Acne Wash Cream Cleanser
DKER 3/16/2007 2:42:00 PM
I used this for a month before reviewing, so I really know its a keeper! This isn't really a cream cleanser, but a medicated acne cleanser that foams with water a bit. When used daily and left on at least 60 seconds, it makes my skin smoother and helps prevent breakouts. I also use it on my shoulders/back/chest with good results...ie smoother skin and clears up breakouts. I tried the foam version of this, and I found it irritating even though it was effective...I think the lack of red dye in this 'cream' version makes it less irritating. Thumbs up. Already purchased a 2nd tube and going to get a 3rd to keep in shower.

Conditioner -Aveda - Elixir daily leave-in conditioner [DISCONTINUED]
DKER 3/4/2007 3:58:00 PM
It does condition well and give some hold and body. Sometimes this gives great results and other times my hair just feels sticky and coated after using it. I've paired it with Aveda gel and other gels and it does the same thing every time. If I wasn't on a mission to use up all my haircare before buying new stuff, I'd have already given up on this. And the smell....well, Aveda used to smell heavenly to me, after EL bought them a lot of products just stink like cheap cologne...this is one of the Old Spice knockoffs.
