Brows -Clinique - Brow Shaper

This would be a good product if more shades were available. Clinique used to include two brushes with this, but be advised, you now only get one. I asked for another at the Clinique counter - they use them for testers and they can't be more than pennies each, but no luck there. If you can find the right color match, this does go on easily and lasts throughout the day. Unfortunately for me, the soft brown and shaping taupe are too dark and the only light shade is wheat which is too yellow. The packaging slides out nicely and you don't have to break a nail to get into it.

Mascara -Clinique - Lash Power
rated 5 of 5

The first time I did not like this one bit, but it helps to know the technique of applying it. Because this mascara adheres to the lashes, it is important to not have anything else on your lashes, I always wipe them off before applying. Gel moisturizers, such as Moisture Surge, will cause it to flake. Removal is wonderfully easy, just stand under the shower, or splash warm water - it has to be warm - and it just comes right off. Seems to condition lashes and the small brush makes it easy to apply. Very pleased with this one and will repurchase. Great alternative to difficult to remove waterproof mascaras.

Mascara -Clinique - High Impact Mascara

Previously did not like this, but I have had an old tube, either that or they have reformulated it. Tried in a GWP and ended up buying the full size. This is a volumizing mascara, really builds up big long lashes, all I do in the am is curl and apply two coats and my eyes look really wide awake. Removes pretty easily and haven't experienced any of the smudging others have had problems with. I don't have oily skin so that may be why. This compares to Lancome's Hypnose which I also like, but Clinique's is $10 less.

Blush -Victoria's Secret - Mosaic Blushing Powder in Afterglow
rated 5 of 5

Just got this home and was anxious to try it based on all the reviews about it being pink. I was looking for a natural no-makeup look and this is pretty much how this color appears on me. It is pink, but it's more a neutral beige pink than a red or blue pink. I compared it against another pink blush I have, Clinique's smoldering plum, which is in their violet color grouping, and IMO the afterglow is a much softer and more natural looking muted pink. I have had pretty good luck with VS makeup and their prices are quite reasonable compared with dept store brands. Hope this helps with the color description! Other than that, you really get a lot of product for the price, I like that VS does not include a brush so you can use your own. Update: I really like this more and more and can see myself repurchasing. Love it with VS yearning lip gloss for a muted office makeup look. VS does not test on animals, I got a printable shopping guide of companies that don't test on PETA's website.

Eyeliner -Merle Norman - Soft Touch Eye Pencil Royalty
rated 1 of 5

I have this in brown suede. The only good thing about it is that it doesn't irritate my very sensitive eyes. Staying power is non existant, I apply this at around 7am before I go to work and by 9am it is all gone. For an upscale product I expected a lot more.

Lipstick -Estee Lauder - Pure Color Crystal Lipstick in Crystal Coral
rated 1 of 5

Love the color and texture of this and unlike other EL lipsticks it isn't overly fragranced and doesn't burn my lips. However, for over $20 it is little more than a drug store quality lip gloss in fancy packaging.

Toners -Clinique - Clarifying Lotion #1
rated 4 of 5
pupster 2/19/2008 11:39:00 AM

This is ok, but contains alchohol and is still too drying for mature or very dry/sensitive skin. I prefer the mild version. IMHO Clinique ought to redo their CLs like this, the mild should replace 1, the 1 should be for normal/combo and 2 should be for oily. If you want to try their products, that's what I would recommend.

Lipstick -American Beauty - Luxury for Lips - Honey Delight

No staying power at all. Have to reapply constantly which makes it pretty expensive at $12.50. Also very drying and outdated frosty formula.

Loose Powders -Clinique - Blended Face Powder in Transparency 3
rated 1 of 5
pupster 2/13/2008 1:31:00 PM

Totally agree with another reviewer who said this turns orange, I have had this problem with other Clinique powders. Also has a kind of chalky dry texture and clogs pores, the main ingredient is talc. Try Merle Norman's loose powder, it's way better.

Mascara -Merle Norman - Creamy Flo-Matic Mascara

This is one really bad product. Paid over $16 and it dried up almost immediately. This is not the first time this has happened to me with MN mascaras. You can get drugstore ones for a lot less that perform better than this:(

Mascara -American Beauty - Softly Shaping Mascara
rated 3 of 5
pupster 2/12/2008 4:53:00 PM

Decided to try this based on the reviews here and because I like other AB products and was looking for a good mascara. Unfortunately this wasn't it. Application is very messy due to the brush design, there is too much product clumped on the brush, you need to wipe it off which is a waste. When the brush goes back into the wand, a lot of the mascara oozes out of the top and leaves a mess around the top (I've also experienced this problem with Flirt lip glosses). During the day this really flaked, more than any other mascara I've tried. If you have sensitive eyes or contacts this one is definitely not recommended.

Treatments -American Beauty - All Is Forgiven Skin Repair Concentrate
rated 3 of 5
pupster 12/10/2007 10:15:00 AM

Don't want to be the one to burst the bubble here, but I'm not that impressed. Bought based on reviews here, found it kind of stings when you apply it, which I figured meant it was doing something. Used it with Beauty Boost overnight and woke up with drier skin than ever before and swollen eyes (I didn't use either on my eyes). Maybe it's too perfumed for my sensitive skin, but it's going back today and I'll stick with trusty Clinique.

Blush -Flirt - Big Deal Lip & Cheek Tint- Bittersweet
rated 3 of 5
pupster 11/29/2007 5:43:00 PM

I have this in Berry Flirt, think it might be a new shade cos it's featured in their Holiday look. This is a lovely cool berry red which gives a really healthy flushed glow, like you just came in out of the cold. On lips, this is a natural berry stain that lasts really well, I like to use balm or gloss over it for shine and to keep lips moisturized (it would be drying used alone). Very happy with it especially the price, for $10 you get a blush and a lipstick. Only need to use a very small amount, one dab on cheeks, and apply with your finger to lips. Portability is another plus, it's small enough to go in your purse for touch ups during the day. I think this would also be great for airline travel in your little plastic baggie! Repurchased on sale for $5 each. Too bad they are being discontinued.

Blush -Estee Lauder - Tender Blush-Fresh Plum
rated 3 of 5
pupster 11/2/2007 11:00:00 AM

Wish EL hadn't discontinued their blushlights, I used to love pink shimmer. I think this is a color that is best suited to very fair people, as other reviewers have complained of it being too light. It's very blue toned and barely shows up at all. The little brush it comes with does fan out, and is handy for travel, but I prefer to apply it with a professional brush. Would prefer if EL got rid of the brush and then either made the compact a bit smaller or gave you more product, although you do get a lot of product for the amount.
