Liquid -Estee Lauder - Maximum Coverage Foundation
mxk2 4/13/2004 9:50:00 PM
This was my concealer and eyeshadow base until it was discontinued. I now prefer MAC pot concealer. The EL does provide superb coverage, but I have found a better color match with MAC so will stick to that. I did get another tube when I found out EL brought it back, though, because this stuff is a great eyesahdow base, I've never found an eyeshadow base this good. This EL foundation is creamy, easy to blend, and dries down to a somewhat powdery finish. If you need superior coverage this is great stuff!

Lipstick -Paula's Choice - Lipstick

I have two of the cream formula lipsticks and love them! They go on smoothly, are opaque, and have decent staying power. I have Peony, which is a shimmery cool-toned reddish-pink, and Rosebud, which is a mid-deep cooler-toned red (not blood red, more like a plummy red). I have tried the matte formula in the past in Pink Poppy. Loved the color, didn't love the formula - too drying for my lips and didn't feel smooth. Peony is the exact same color but in a different formula.

Blush -BeneFit Cosmetics - Dandelion
mxk2 3/22/2004 9:19:00 PM
Love this! It is one of the perfect slap-it-on-and-go items, absolutely perfect for those hurried mornings when I need something to perk up my complexion but don't have time to fuss with much make-up. I'm light (MAC NW20), and Dandelion shows up on me as a soft, natural flush, like a glow from within, never looks over-done. :)

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum Express Waterproof
mxk2 3/14/2004 10:34:00 AM
This is my grail mascara, have already repurchased a couple times. This adds a nice amount of volume, stays put all day, holds a curl beautifully, and the black is definitely black (unlike some other brands, whose black is more of a charcoal gray). What more could I ask for? :)

Styling Products -TiGi - Catwalk Sexed-Up Body Building Tonic

Great product! I use a few squirts of this on damp hair then blow-dry, adds a good amount of volume in my fine hair and doesn't weigh down my hair (unless I use too much).

Tinted Moisturizer -Laura Mercier - Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20
mxk2 2/29/2004 5:33:00 PM
I received a sample of this in Nude, which is a good match for my NW20 skin. I liked the feel of this and how it blended into my skin, but unfortunately my face felt tingly in spots. I tried the sample two days in a row, and my face tingled both times. I'm assuming the tingling is due to the chemical sunscreen, but I'm not 100% sure. It was also a bit heavy for a tinted moisturizer, I would categorize this more as a sheer/light foundation. I think I would have liked it, though, had my face not tingled from it.

Liked the feel of this powder on my skin, but it is too pink and too shiny.

Liquid -Prescriptives - Traceless

This is a *beautiful* sheer foundation. If you're looking for coverage this ain't it, but if you want something to even out skin tone and give you a bit of polish, this is wonderful. It is very soft and easy to apply, feels lovely on the skin, the finish is beautiful. I do have to touch up my nose and chin after a few hours (but in all fairness I have to touch up any foundation I wear, I have quite an oily T-zone). I am a MAC NW20, and I wear Level 2 in Traceless. Am currently on my second tube. :)

Liquid -Lancome - Color ID

This seems like a nice foundation in terms of texture and ease of blending, but unfortunately I could not find a color match. I am MAC NW20, Px Traceless #2. Shade I-30 (neutral) was a bit too dark and too warm-toned, I-40 was too dark and too pink, and the other two lighter colors (I-10 & I-20) were too light.

Loose Powders -Bobbi Brown - Sheer Finish Loose Powder
mxk2 2/26/2004 6:20:00 PM
This is a great powder! I much prefer this sheer version over the older version, which was too yellow and too heavy. The sheer loose powder is very light and soft, and the Pale Yellow color nicely warms up my NW20 complexion without appearing yellow on the skin. I alternate between this and LM loose in Ivory (also yellow-based). At first I was ticked off because the price is the same as the original powder but the amount of powder is only 1/2 as much, but I got over it when I realized how great this product is!

Tinted Moisturizer -Bobbi Brown - Tinted Moisturizer [REFORMULATED]

I ended up returning this product. It did not work well with my combo skin (very oily T-zone). I did give it 3 lippies, though, because in all fairness even though it is all wrong for my skin type, I think it is a good product - the color match (Extra Light) was pretty good (albeit a tad yellow), it blended well, offers soft, sheer coverage, and it has a broad-spectrum sunscreen. For folks with normal to dry skin I would recommend trying it, but if you're oily stay far, far away.

Brows -Clinique - Superfine Liner for Brows
mxk2 2/26/2004 6:05:00 PM
I really like this brow pencil. I have it in color 02 Soft Brown. This is a great match for my dark brown hair, and it is not ashy. I took a lippy off because while the pencil is indeed fine, I would rather it have a sharp point than a blunted head. One word of warning: This pencil is soft and will go on quite heavily if you don't use a *very* light touch. It took me a couple tries to get the hang of applying only the very slightest amount of pressure. Overall, a very good brow product, would repurchase.

Moisturizers -Sage - Hydrating Emulsion
mxk2 2/25/2004 9:44:00 PM
Been working my way through a generous sample of this for a few weeks, am going to purchase when my sample runs out. This is a fabulous lightweight moisturizer, great for those with combo or oily skin who want just a touch of moisture. Absorbs very quickly, weightless on the skin. I don't think this would do the trick for those looking for anything more than a light moisturizer, but for those folks who only want a bit of added moisture this is superb. Also great underneath foundation. ***Edited 9/23/04: This has reached grail status. This is simply THE BEST lightweight moisturizer for those of us with oilier skin IMO.

Lipstick -Clinique - Different Lipstick - Rasberry Glace

Love this shade! It is a bright pink with a purplish undertone, slight shimmer. The staying power is decent, it isn't drying, and I love the heavy silver packaging.

Powder -Clinique - City Base Powder Foundation SPF 15 [DISCONTINUED]
mxk2 2/18/2004 4:40:00 PM
I am quite happy with this powder foundation. I am a bit suprised I wear the shade Neutral (05), which is the fourth shade down, because I'm usually the second shade in a foundation, but this looks great! The only lighter neutral shade in this is Cloud, the lightest shade, and it is too light. There are two shades in between Cloud and Neutral, one has a golden undertone, the other has a pink undertone. I apply this foundation over my sunscreen with a kabuki brush and lightly buff in. Since I'm pretty oily in the T-zone, it doesn't last all day, but its so easy to touch up this type of foundation - just dab or brush on a bit more in the areas that need it. The Neutral shade has not turned orange at all (and I keep checking to make sure!).
