Bronzers -Rimmel - Natural Bronzer- 21 Sun Light
rated 3 of 5
chayaNY 3/4/2012 10:17:00 PM

This is a nice, affordable (drugstore priced plus more product than most such products), matte bronzer. I am very fair olive and while I love the texture, its satiny smooth, and thrilled to find such a low cost matte bronzer but its a bit too peachy on me. I prefer bronzers that have a red underbase that more closely resembles how a natural tan would look on me. That said, the rarity of red based bronzers on the market lead me to believe most women prefer more peach toned bronzers. I think most women will then like this product. I still enjoy it, more so as a crease color for eye shadow, or as a blush. I wish the color suied me better as a bronzer because the price, amount and texture are all great. I would compare this in color to Stila Sun, more so to NYC Sunny, with a more luminescent finish.

Brows -YBF Cosmetics - Transforming Eyebrow Pencil
rated 3 of 5
chayaNY 3/1/2012 2:23:00 PM

I like this product quite a bit. I'm new to using any brow enhancer on myself. In my whole (makeup wearing) life, I have never used any eyebrow products to add color, thickness or shape, only gels, waxes etc to hold my brows in place. My brows have always been a very defining feature for me, thick, dark, and I have had compliments over the years even from strangers! My personal and professional belief having been a pro makeup artist for a time, is that brows look best with minimal intervention, not plucked into oblivion (which is where many go after a time, never to return). I didnt order this product, rather it was part of a package deal when I ordered the YBF neutralizing yellow cream concealer and matching powder. My brows have not changed all that much over time, but a condition I have that effects all my moisture glands, therefore my hair and skin, has at times effected my brows too. All of my hair is weak, prone to breakage, so sometimes I will notice a small area look a little sparser. This pencil is a good fill in just in that little spot. My brows are dark ash brown, no red at all though the hair on my head is much warmer in tone. This is not a warm brown though I have seen much more ash toned browns, this medium one works well enough with my brow coloring to go unnoticed. One key step to appear youthful as we get older is to try and give back to your appearance what time and nature are detracting bit by bit (unless father time doesn't have your address!). So if you've become parched and dry, add back moisture but also the appearance of glowy, dewier skin with highlighter. If you're lacking color but never wore blush, its time to try some, or maybe bronzer, both. If you never were one to do anything but your brows but brush them up and in place like me, you may not realize that you miss a bit of the lushness they once had till you do the most minimal amt of touch up where they look sparser, not changing the shape or line, until you try it. I find this long lasting, not a pointed, draw on feather lines as the tip is rounded and cannot be sharpened. However, it is not creamy like an eye liner so you can draw with it to some extent. I love the spoolie brush on the other end an d how that comes with a cap too. Word of caution, be extra careful, the inside part of mine, the "lead" if you will, fell out the first time I tried using this. An attempt to fit it back in caused it to break in pieces. I contacted YBF and received a new one from them. A few others have had a similar problem as well. I must admit I never wanted to add yet another "thing" to my regimen, and still hate that a medical condition (it beat time to the punch!) is making a favorite feature of mine a little different. But this is such a quick step thats its "painless." This brow pencil would work on both lighter and darker brows that mine, its quite versatile. Remember, add back whats been subtracted the best you can!

Moisturizers -Eucerin - Extra Protective Moisture Lotion SPF30
rated 3 of 5
chayaNY 3/1/2012 1:08:00 AM

I have used this on and off for many years, probably close to ten. I am a faithful user of the non spf version of this (smells/looks, like butter, comes in a glass jar). That is an HG, must have, though I try and sometimes use other things, saves my skin, type of product. It also has helped me to have line free skin though I am not sweet 16! So loving that version I bought this years back too and also the spf 15 version. I like the whitish cast. Its good for skin that has some redness, toning that down a bit. The spf factor is pretty good too for day to day use, though would use something higher for being in direct sun, but otherwise perfectly adequate. I have used this even for extended periods in the sun, when I had not planned to be out so long, with no problems of burning on my fair skin. Its safe for use on my sensitive, highly reactive skin. It can also be used on the delicate under eye area and upper eye lids. I don't have anything negative to say about it. I dont use it all the time because I have been trying to find a foundation I love and some lotions look better under this or that, than others. Just preference. I like the look of the spf 15 version better, glowy, no white cast, but I find this version better for my reactive skin. I always have this knowing if all else fails I have this on hand and use it on my neck, and decolletage area too, also hands. I like the pump which most lotions this size dont have.

Crème -Laura Mercier - Silk Creme Foundation
rated 4 of 5
chayaNY 2/21/2012 4:21:00 PM

I like this a lot because at the end of the day when I look in the mirror, it looks relatively lthe way it did that morning. Not totally matte, yet no shimmer but somewhat luminous quality to it. I have very dry skin and once set with powder this does not get cakey looking like many foundations do on me. It just looks smooth. Further, although I have 2 LM concealers, I have been using this under my eyes for darkness there and on my lids to cancel out redness. It makes a good eye shadow primer too. The bamboo shade looked too dark for my fair olive skin because I am quite pale, but it works very we'll. I suggest trying samples first if possible. Honestly when I wear this I get compliments on how good I look when the only thing different about me was this foundation. I was using Graftobian cream whih has good coverage, shades and is inexpensive compared to this, but this stays put all day and that slips and slides on me. As for value, a little goes a long way. I used some Sephora samples a few times a week for a good while trying to find my shade. Even applying with a damp sponge, had enough for about 2 weeks. If you find the right shade and have dry or combo skin, you will like this a lot.

Bronzers -Wet 'n' Wild - Color Icon Bronzer w/SPF 15 in Bikini Contest
rated 4 of 5
chayaNY 2/20/2012 1:42:00 PM

(Written from cell phone, sorry if paragraph formatting is "off") I bought all 3 of these bronzers because for the price they are huge and there were only 2 of each in the display. I agree with everything the reviewer below said. I too want a bronzer with a red undertone. Nothing else looks natural on me. Almost all bronzers really seem like peach/terra cotta colored pwders to me which is why you will see many reviews for bronzers in my profile. I keep buying them hoping to find one that suits me. I bought a Bobbi Brown bronzer as a birthday gift to myself and like it a lot. I only bought something so costly because her medium bronzer is red based. For years I only bought Revlon Sun bronzer which I loved because it had a red base so looked like an actual touch of sun on me. It was disontinued sadly for me. I have been using this all week and really liking the effect. Its not matte like the BB one though it is not shimmery per se, no particles nor frost. But it is luminous, glowy. I have actually been reaching for this instead od my BB for days. I didn't like previous WnW bronzers on me. Too chalky for my dry skin, ended up splotchy. Also the color was too broken terra cotta pots-dusty too. The lightest shade of this is in no way a bronzer for my very fair olive skin. Though its a light pale beige Tor dark ivory), its not got any bronze tone to it. Makes a fine highlighter on eyes or face and again, inexpensive plus so much product. One caveat is the product is very soft. The other bronze shade (has a gold undertone), broke immediatly so I exchanged it and the 2nd broke before I got it home though it was not dropped. Thankfully this has not dropped nor broken on its own. However I traveled this weekend and placed it in a bubble wrap envelope within my makeup case, just in case. I should add on my warm toned, medium brown eyes, this is a good crease color. I have yet to try the other bronze shade, will place it in a sifter container since its in pieces. This is a winner, from the price, under $5.00 US, the size, 0.46 oz or net 13g, to the shade. Also finely milled so no splotches. Looks nice on the decollatage too to insure my face and neck/chest area are the same tone and I only use powders with an spf there. I am not seeing this in Walgreens anymore and have never seen it in other stores, wish I had a backup.

Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - Cortizone 10
rated 5 of 5
chayaNY 2/18/2012 12:17:00 PM

I can't use this on my face, though by the same brand there is now a Cortizone 10 Healing lotion which is great and also a moisturizer! Works when nothing else has on PD I get around my eyes. That said, any irritation on the body is well taken care of with this crea. From bug bites to rashes, this does it all. I have a liquid one in what looks like a bingo marker, portable and lasts ages, great for summer bug bites and heat related irritations. Over the years I have bough different brands of cortisone cream, generic as well as name brand and none equal this. Its a necessary part of any first aid kit at home or for travel, have repurchased time after time.

Lip Gloss -New York Color - Liquid Lipshine in Rivington Rose
rated 4 of 5
chayaNY 2/17/2012 11:41:00 PM

I agree with everything the reviewer below me wrote about these glosses, and this shade. I love them, here's why, -this color is a beautiful blue based rose. it has some shimmer but no frost -one swipe provides wearable, healthy color, layered on heavier, you get a more opaque, still beautiful look -very shiny, which is why i wear glosses not lipstick -not sticky -lasts a good while but as it does fade over time you're still left with a shine on your lips -incredible price -not your average doe foot applicator. most are hard, inflexible and therefore only grab a small amt of product, plus they are uncomfortable on the lips to me -this doe foot is much longer and made of softer, spongier material which deposits a good amt first swipe and feels pleasant to apply -the scent is somewhat sweet but not cloying (i like everything about nyx glosses but the fact they smell like cough syrup to me) -there is no taste as far as i can discern -easy for me to find (north east us) -very inexpensive -every color i have tried is wearable in that even the shades which appear quite dark, are pigmented enough to provide color, yet not be dark smears on your face. the color in the tube can be achieved in a slightly heavier application, 2 swipes -the very fair shades, the pale pink, and pale peach appear in the tube like light frosty shades that are not currently in fashion, but even those pale shades do not apply like heavily frosted glosses. both are so pretty, not sheer, but again, lay down just enough pigment to provide shine, shimmer, and make lips appear fuller -there are some non shimmer shades which i have yet to try and mostly because some are usually sold out where i shop but i plan to try those too -lastly, if you love pink, which i do, but no longer fine bubble gum candy pinks appropriate, this rose shade is an elegant way to still wear pink gloss -

Fragrances -Chloe - l'eau de chloe
rated 5 of 5
chayaNY 2/16/2012 2:56:00 PM

I found no review for this version of Chloe. This is everything I want in a scent! To me its a powdery citrus, but much more complex than I can explain. I am not able to specify notes in a perfume like many here can. That said, I have always loved citrusy scents but want them to be somehwhat more than just say orange, lemon or grapefruit. Aside from citrus scents, I love powdery and sweet scents. However I dislike cloying sweet scents; you know the type, vanilla-smells like play-doh, which many sweet scents smell like to me. There is also something green about this too, hence the green bow on the bottle I presume. This combines the best of all worlds to me. Its such a pretty scent too, so feminine. I love it and have not felt that way about a scent in a long, long time. I don't own it, have only sampled it, but would love to have this. I want to smell this way when I embrace someone (and vice versa!)!

Fragrances -Avon - Night Magic
rated 3 of 5
chayaNY 2/15/2012 10:58:00 AM

I have the powder version of this scent. I have to agree with Radchickee a few reviews below. This immediately reminded me of my beloved Jovan Musk upon opening the container. I also get baby powder, yes a little vanilla. I can only speak of the powder having never sampled the fragrance otherwise, but I love the aforementioned scents. I love soft, powdery, want to nuzzle up to someone kind of scents. I have bought two Avon powders recently after reading about layering oils, ten spray then powders to have a longer lasting scent. I plan to try this. I also love the old fashioned-ness of it, that old school glamour of scented powders. There is no talc, which I like and the finish is pretty, no shimmer nor sparkle, just a nice little sheen.

Lip Gloss -New York Color - Liquid Lipshine in Brighton Beach Peach (575)
rated 4 of 5
chayaNY 2/14/2012 7:20:00 PM

I live on Brighton Beach, how could I not buy this?! This is a beautiful light peach shimmery shade. I find it looks thicker, more frosted, in the tube, than it is in real life. Its not opaque but not totally sheer. I love the applicator and I normally hate doe foot applicators. This one is different, its longer, soft and flexible, very unlike most doe foot applicators even in high end glosses. Those others are not worth it because you have to swipe again and again to get product, not with this. This a great swipe and go, no need for a mirror, gloss for me which also feels nice and cushy. Great value, have two others in the line.

Skincare - Face -Korres - Quercetin & Oak Antiageing Antiwrinkle Night Cream (Age-Reversing Night Cream)
rated 3 of 5
chayaNY 2/11/2012 9:56:00 PM

I have very dry, sensitive, highly reactive skin due to a med condition that means I no longer produce any natural moisture barrier to my skin. I have some fine lines on my forehead and although I use and love Avene Eluage under my eyes but it has not done anything for my forehead nor the line between my brows. In two weeks of using this about every other night or so on my forehead, the area looks smoother. I read others has a similar result but I didn't expect it myself or so quickly. I am now trying it elsewhere I see fine lines in the hope it will work just as well. To describe it, its unlike any cream I have used before. Its not emollient, in fact not it doesn't feel terribly moisturizing. It sinks in quickly, there is no sheen left on my skin, if anything, its somewhat matte. I don't really detect much of a scent, which is good. I have not had any adverse reactions, no bumps, redness, itching etc, this from someone who is allergic to most glasses (something in the frames gives me welts!), and so many other things. So many creams irritate me too much to ever get the benefits as touted. I have been using a deluxe sample size for two weeks only and far from nightly, that's why I am posting a review because it seems to have worked nicely in a rather short amount of time. Its no miracle but if it softens the other fine lines like the one between my eyes, I might be backing saying just that!

Lip Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Cococare-- Cocoa Butter Lip Balm
rated 3 of 5
chayaNY 2/10/2012 2:14:00 AM

I liked this lip balm a lot. I have a medical condition causing my moisture glands to die so I have no more natural moisture barrier on my lips that even those with very chapped lips, still have. I go through lip balm like crazy because my lips can split if I don't coat them. I have tried literally dozens over the years and I generally like thicker, waxier balms because they stay put longer, and they feel cushier, more comfortable on my lips. This is a very no frills, no fruity taste/smell, basic but emollient, long lasting lip balm. I didn't love the scent initially, but its not objectionable at all, and it grew on me. I have used up a whole tune which says something. These are cheap and good for cuticles, little dry patches. Just bought the aloe vera balm of this brand today and like the cocoa butter better, though its a nice balm for the price too. I also like the cb's bright yellow packaging which makes finding a lip balm in a large purse much easier.

Powder -Neutrogena - Mineral Sheers Powder Foundation SPF 20
rated 4 of 5
chayaNY 2/2/2012 8:15:00 PM

Got this product a few years ago free with a gift bag from Oprah magazine. I have used several different mineral foundations I liked, but did not care for the coverage on this one, nor how this looked on me. It was far too sheer (yes I can see the name, but I didn't buy it folks, just giving my review having received it lol), and it made my face feel drier when its already quite dry. However, I have repurchased this and will again; I have a very green vein near one eye which is prominent and impossible to cover. Cream concealers, from Dermablend to LM, and so on, somehow don't do the trick though they work well on other areas of my face. Other brands of mineral powders also did not work as well though they offered more coverage generally. So I am not sure why this works so well but at times if I forget when I look in the mirror my face seems "off." Then I go back and apply this and I look so much better! The vein is that distracting but with this covering it, its not something anyone would notice on their own lest I point it out. Be careful to swipe, not dig at or be too rough with this, it will break. But even then I just use the broken bits in an empty little sifter container and its perfect! This also works well on the greenish/purple darkness on inner eye areas, even better than high end concealers. One thing to add, a male friend of mine used this now to conceal a reddish scar on his face. The lack of opacity and coverage when compared to say BE or other mineral foundations is perfect for him because as a man he doesn't want it to be apparent he's wearing makeup. Its also matte and stays in place all day plus its easy enough to just buff on with a brush in seconds. I told him to try this almost 2 years ago after trying several different concealers to no avail, all looked unnatural or obvious or both. This has worked very well for him too and he is buying a back up. I also told him my tip of spritzing some water on after application to set and to take off any powder-iness. Looks better that way in my opinion.

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - Infallible- US shades
rated 4 of 5
chayaNY 2/1/2012 1:33:00 AM

I have 4, like them a lot. I dont see the need to own many other eye shadows since buying these. I am a neutral girl and bought neutral shades in which I can create many variations. I got these because no pint in applying makeup that fades in minutes and many primers make me look like I have crepey lids when I don't, just dry skin. I love the look of these and texture, but there can be fallout so tap off excess before application. I plan on buying 3 more of these and honestly would rather have them than either naked palette from UD
